A rally and march in protest of higher taxes in Santa Barbara, Calif., April 4.
A rally and march in protest of higher taxes in Santa Barbara, Calif., April 4.

In a brilliant rebuttal to coordinated attacks from the far left, this Wall Street Journal op-ed, “Tax Day Becomes Protest Day – How the tea parties could change American politics.” (related stories) nails the true genesis of today’s protests:

Today American taxpayers in more than 300 locations in all 50 states will hold rallies — dubbed “tea parties” — to protest higher taxes and out-of-control government spending. There is no political party behind these rallies, no grand right-wing conspiracy, not even a 501(c) group like MoveOn.org. [KA-ZING! Take that, MoveOn!]

This is part of a general phenomenon dubbed “Smart Mobs” by Howard Rheingold, author of a book by the same title, in which modern communications and social-networking technologies allow quick coordination among large numbers of people who don’t know each other.

In the old days, organizing large groups of people required, well, an organization: a political party, a labor union, a church or some other sort of structure. Now people can coordinate themselves. … [THIS SELF-DETERMINATIVE ACTION HARD FOR THE LEFTIES TO GRASP SINCE THEY COMPLIANTLY WAIT TO TAKE THEIR ORDERS FROM MOVEON ET AL.]

So who’s behind the Tax Day tea parties? Ordinary folks who are using the power of the Internet to organize. …

NRO’s Andy McCarthy also has a new remarkable piece – The Obama Administration Is Criminalizing Dissent? Intimidating Its Ideological Opponents? You Must Be Joking – condemning the DHS report. All of you who’ve been longtime readers and supported Hillary will vividly recall these wholly inappropriate uses of Obot government figures to silence dissent and to intimidate ordinary citizens who are NOT extremists — and note that the litany of anti-Constitutional examples was written by McCarthy in October 2008:

The DHS screed … is entirely predictable. The only conceivable surprise is that it is so blatant and has happened so soon. But all they’ve done is commit to paper the same stuff they say to each other in conversation. […]

[From a McCarthy column in 2008]I’ll be blunt: Sen. Obama and his supporters despise free expression, the bedrock of American self-determinism and hence American democracy. What’s more, like garden-variety despots, they see law not as a means of ensuring liberty but as a tool to intimidate and quell dissent….

[I]n St. Louis, local law-enforcement authorities, dominated by Democrat-party activists, [are] threatening libel prosecutions against Obama’s political opposition. County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch and City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, abetted by a local sheriff and encouraged by the Obama campaign, warned that members of the public who dared speak out against Obama during the campaign’s crucial final weeks would face criminal libel charges — if, in the judgment of these conflicted officials, such criticism of their champion was “false.” [YES! THIS REALLY OCCURRED!]

The chill wind was bracing. The Taliban could not better rig matters. The Prophet of Change is only to be admired, not questioned. In the stretch run of an American election, there is to be no examination of a candidate for the world’s most powerful office — whether about his radical record, the fringe Leftism that lies beneath his thin, centrist veneer, his enabling of infanticide, his history of race-conscious politics, his proposals for unprecedented confiscation and distribution of private property (including a massive transfer of American wealth to third-world dictators through international bureaucrats), his ruinous economic policies that have helped leave Illinois a financial wreck, his place at the vortex of the credit market implosion that has put the U.S. economy on the brink of meltdown, his aggressive push for American withdrawal and defeat in Iraq, his easy gravitation to America-hating activists, be they preachers like Jeremiah Wright, terrorists like Bill Ayers, or Communists like Frank Marshall Davis. Comment on any of this and risk indictment or, at the very least, government harassment and exorbitant legal fees.

Nor was this an isolated incident.

Item: When the American Issues Project ran political ads calling attention to Obama’s extensive ties to Ayers, the Weatherman terrorist who brags about having bombed the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol, the Obama campaign pressured the Justice Department to launch an absurd criminal prosecution.

Item: When commentator Stanley Kurtz of the Ethics and Public Policy Center was invited on a Chicago radio program to discuss his investigation of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, an “education reform” project in which Obama and Ayers (just “a guy who lives in my neighborhood”) collaborated to dole out over $100 million, the Obama campaign issued an Internet action alert. Supporters, armed with the campaign’s non-responsive talking points, dutifully flooded the program with calls and emails, protesting Kurtz’s appearance and attempting to shout him down.

Item: Both Obama and his running mate, Sen. Joe Biden, have indicated that an Obama administration would use its control of the Justice Department to prosecute its political opponents, including Bush administration officials responsible for the national security policies put in effect after nearly 3000 Americans were killed in the 9/11 attacks.

Item: There is a troubling report that the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Section, top officials of which are Obama contributors, has suggested criminal prosecutions against those they anticipate will engage in voter “intimidation” or “oppression” in an election involving a black candidate. (Memo to my former DOJ colleagues: In a system that presumes innocence even after crimes have undeniably been committed, responsible prosecutors don’t assume non-suspects will commit future law violations — especially when doing so necessarily undermines the First Amendment freedoms those prosecutors solemnly swear to uphold.) [Emphasis added.]

Just consider the DHS gambit the first of many Domestic Contingency Operations.
Read all.

McCarthy’s title for his 2008 article? “Obama’s Assault on the First Amendment.”

Now Obama and his administration are going further than Bush to seize and concentrate all power in the executive branch.

But Americans are proving that we have not forgotten our forefather’s courage in standing up and fighting tyranny!

And any decent American should be proud of those organizing and attending today’s events! It does NOT matter that we agree with the sentiments of all who are participating. What counts is that they are the kinds of people who ordinarily don’t do protests, but they feel compelled to speak out! BRAVO!

Our tea party in Norwich, CT was entirely peaceful, and would have been even without the police presence there. But if the Obama administration continues to try to suppress free speech through intimidation, things could turn. My sister, for one, has been telling me for months now that it is time to take back the White House, and she means PHYSICALLY take it back. Obama might have gotten away with flipping off Hillary, but he better beware an entire nation of post-menopausal women anxiously awaiting their first Social Security checks! All kidding aside, it was a great day in America! Democrats, Republicans, young and old, veterans, people from all walks of life coming together for a just cause, just as our forefathers did. Rob Simmons spoke [without a teleprompter!], as did many ordinary citizens. The signs were great; a young girl carrying a sign that said, I’m Only 10, and I OWE HOW MUCH??? Today was just the beginning, and the best is yet to come.

Be prepared for a total propaganda assult from the O. Also be aware that peaceful demonstrations don’t always have much physical protection. Police, soldiers and just plain thugs are more than willing to bash heads or shoot protestors.

I saw a report a little while ago on CNN..and the so called street journalist(?? could have fooled me) was so rude to one of the protesters and blamed FOX News for the protests..it was the most disgusting kind of reporting i have seen lately..if you could call it reporting..it was a definite piece of propaganda..she cut off a man with a child in his arms that was trying to say what Lincoln said about representative government..the witch cut him off and would not hardly let him get his sentence out..and she was attacking verbally the very people she was pretending to interview.

How sad this country ‘s media has become.

I am delighted to see the Tea Parties and have no doubt that there are people within the Obama Administration who would use intimidation to silence opposition. However, I would be absolutely flabbergasted if Janet Napolitano were party to any abuse of civil liberties. Her pet programs as Governor of Arizona were children’s programs, education, and border security. She didn’t govern like a fascist at all. Her personality came across as combative but definitely not authoritative.

If the Dept of Homeland Security issued a report warning against right wing extremists, then I would be inclined to believe it. But I would wonder who exactly is behind any extremist activity, meaning it might be persons who don’t necessarily have the public interest in mind. Extremists don’t always equal the loyal opposition.

Obama Attorney Threatens Distinguished Veteran on Obama Birth Certificate :
    April 15, 2009
After the flippant dismissal by U.S. Circuit Court Judge James Robertson of the lawsuit to attempt to determine whether Barack Obama is constitutionally eligible to serve as President, D.C. attorney John Hemenway received a letter from a lawyer representing Barack Obama and Joe Biden, his Vice President The letter, written by Obama attorney Robert F. Bauer, states the following :
I represent President Barack Obama and Vice President Joseph Biden. I write to request that, in light of the District Court’s March 24, 2009 Rule 11 order in Hollister v. Soetoro, No. 08-2254, you withdraw the appeal filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, No. 09-5080. For the reasons stated in Judge Robertson’s order, the suit is frivolous and should not be pursued.

“Should you decline to withdraw this frivolous appeal, please be informed that we intend to pursue sanctions, including costs, expenses, and attorney’s fees, pursuant to federal Rule Appellate Procedure 38 and D.C. Circuit Rule 38.” http://www.familysecuritymatters.org/publications/id.2996/pub_detail.asp

This is, of course, OUTRAGEOUS. The fact that any American can’t ask that the Stoner in Chief be legit, and prove it, is disgusting. More bullying and thuggery from scumbag Obama. I can’t WAIT until this is all exposed, and all of those jackasses who called us tin foil conspiracy freaks have to STFU and apologize.

    • leslie

….and the bots are going to think this strategy is all fine and dandy…….
until someone tries to use it against one of them…

  • huh

This is part of a general phenomenon dubbed “Smart Mobs” by Howard Rheingold, author of a book by the same title, in which modern communications and social-networking technologies allow quick coordination among large numbers of people who don’t know each other.

…and this is why They want an non-anonymous Internet 2.0!

  • Sassy

The organizers for the events in our area have never protested, and I personally have only attended one political rally in my life.
We are ordinary people who have become disenchanted with the ability of elected officials to manage this country efficently, and recognize that we are facing a crushing debt that will sink us all!

  • cathnealon

I have listened to C-Span for the last 6 months–since BO took office his supporters use the same talking point over and over–“Bush started this whole mess, where were the tea partiers and conservatives then?” They seem to forget that BO and his backers came up with 675 million to put him in office–he wanted the job, we didn’t ask him to hijack the Democrat party, fix the caucuses and have ACORN register the same person 78 times to vote. Wow, he must have wanted this real bad but now that he’s got it he wants to blame Bush every step of the way. Diversion away from his agenda to usurp every government agency from the DHS to the IRS to the EPA to further his insinuation into every American’s life. Only 90 days in and we’re having massive protests, at least it took 3-4 years for Bush.

    • I’mFedUp

I was JUST thinking that same thing…I don’t remember people being so pissed off 90 days into Bush that they had Tea Parties and protests LOL. The bad news for the Fraud is that this is probably just the beginning. There are more events planned, bigger ones, and the worse the Fraud gets the bigger the movement against him gets. Take THAT Bots!

      • penguin

I hope there is a way to stop him. It truly says something that there are so many protests this early in his presidency. He needs to quit blaming Bush. Let the marches continue!

  • I’mFedUp

Guess the Fraud and his thugs didn’t count on people bonding together, across party lines, to save this country. Unity? You betcha’. I can’t wait to get to my Tea Party and I say to ACORN….BRING IT! This is America and we don’t tolerate thugs and bullies like the Fraud who try to silence us. Thanks for the great thread. God Bless America!

  • Sassy

Without “radicals” this country would not exist!
Thankfully, there are people who will still march peacefully for the cause of the liberty!
It is irrelevant who is occupying the White House…Americans still have the right to speak and be heard.
With the representatives in the Capitol ignoring their calls and e-mails, it’s time to take the next step!
If we are to be labeled, so be it!
Let’s place all civil rights issues on the same plane and see how that flies!

  • wodiej

The White House aka Obama is distancing itself from that Homeland Security document and used the word “terrorist”…thought we weren’t using that word anymore??

    • Lyn

Oh we can’t use terrorist for people that don’t live here, hate the US and want to kill as many Americans as possible, THAT must be called man-made dissasters, Terrorist is saved for Americans who carry signs complaining about the wasteful spending and stolen elections.

  • Eastan

Is is possible that the media is made up of folks who are reporting because they can’t act? They followed Bush, after 9/11 and did not ask questions about the run-up to the war. Now they are following Obama as if he were a producer and they were aspiring young porn actors hoping to earn grace for a break. I just hope it does not take 8 years for them to catch on this time.

    • Arabella Trefoil

The media have one function: maintain the status quo and keep people happy. Unhappy people don’t go out and spend money.

Unhappy people with no money might get angry and create discomfort.

    • b mathews

i put on the tv this morning and the only channel covering the tea parties are fox. dont expect to see much coverage anywhere else.they can ignore us..but we are not going away.

  • wodiej

Thanks NQ from me as well and millions of liberty lovin’ Americans. Our right to protest, dissent, criticize, question etc. government who is using our tax dollars recklessly is alive and well.

Our protest is Saturday, I am taking my mom and sister and I know others who are attending as well.

  • cat

Thanks, NQ, for covering this today.

Get out and protest today if you can!

  • look what they do to anyone who opposes the Obama’s…

ASU didn’t want to grant a degree – received death threats, and massive amounts of hatemail.

Fashion icon Oscar de la Renta criticizes MO’s outfit to meet the queen – receives massive amounts of hatemail, ends up apologizing.

Super D’d who supported Hillary – received death threats, called Uncle Tom, etc.

Bloggers who oppose BO – get death threats, hacked, personally attacked, etc.

    and on and on…

They don’t even need to create laws, they have their own personal hit squad army, armed and ready.

    • Lyn

Remember the debate were Stepho actually had the nerve to ask Obam a couple questions about ayers ect. Barky was furious and flipped off Hillary the next day and said she should have defended him , but twisted the knife (and cancelled all future dem debates) and ALL the Bots sent emails ect to ABC, and all over the internet.

Then f course there was the lovely billy club carrying Balck panthers at the Phila polling spot.

      • I’mFedUp

Nothing will make me forget seeing the vid of an older, African American woman, who marched with Martin Luther King, telling the story about the AA thugs threatening violence to anyone who voted for Hillary. To see the sadness in this woman’s eyes, having marched for freedom, the black vote, etc. and then watching young AAs trashing that vote…ughhh…so painful. That’s something I will remember for the rest of my life and I will NEVER forgive the Dems for this. Never, never, never.

        • Senneth

FedUp, yes. But there’s also a deep sadness in me about the young women who supported this fraud. After spending my whole adult life in the trenches for feminism, all the hard work, the threats, the constant daily grind to preserve the rights we fought so hard to get and then to keep, and the young people stepped on our sacrifices and basically told us they didn’t matter, and neither did we. While I may continue some periphery work, my activism days are done. As are my Democratic Party days.

  • Arabella Trefoil

This is good news. The cat is out of the bag. Some of us learned the hard way during the Obamanation Selection Period that silencing the opposition is part of Obama’s game plan.

We must all continue to speak out.

Dear trollies: save the key strokes. We know all your little routines.

    • cat

      hi arabella!!

      • Arabella Trefoil

Hi, cat! I’m busy studying for the GRE’s so I don’t have much time to comment. I think it’s great that people are out there protesting without the “leadership” of Spam-in-a-can Moveon etc.
