Hoosier Mayors Decry Senator Obama’s Comments

BACKGROUND: At a fundraiser in San Francisco last week, Senator Obama shared his views of Americans from small towns: “it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

To Whom It May Concern:

We wish to express our sincere disappointment with comments made by Senator Obama at a San Francisco fundraiser last week–comments which demeaned the values of small Midwestern towns. These views are offensive to millions of hardworking Hoosiers who strive everyday to provide for our families, lift up our communities and strengthen our country.

We embrace our faith not out of frustration but as a foundation of the values that guide us – the values we inherit and the values we pass on. We have faced difficult times. However, Hoosiers are resilient, optimistic and unwavering in our commitment to our families and country. After seven years of a president who refused to talk to us, the last thing we need is a presidential candidate who talks down to us.

These remarks also serve to drive us further apart instead of uniting us around the great challenges we face together. We need good paying jobs. We need an end to this war. We need health care for every American. But to meet these challenges, we need a president who honors our values. We need a president who stands up and fights for us, and shares our can-do spirit. That is what Hoosiers will be looking for when we go to the polls on May 6.

    I gotta tell you, I love this cling stuff. Lots of Hill supporters like myself found Obamas “hope and change” BS to be condescending from the start. I don’t want to be preached to by a pol, I just wannna see your plans and your resume. Thats it. I find anyone telling me how I should “feel” to be condescending.
    But trying to explain that to someone who doesn’t mind being manipulated, or doesn’t recognize it when its happening—well, they look at you lke your a nut. or a racist. So I am oh so glad that Obamas true nature is being exposed. It is truely refreshing. Hey, I think I’m finally feeling the “hope and teh change”! ;)

    Yeah, can you imagine going into a job interview (which is what the election season is) and preaching to the company? Telling them what they should think, what they do think, and what is wrong with their company and employees? You’d never get the job.

    President is CEO or COO of our Country. We’re not hiring a savior. We’re hiring a manager.

    Is THAT the best you got? A vague sentence, not even a quote, from a snarky hit piece. Many people have said that there was truth to people being FRUSTRATED, it was the ‘clinging to god and guns’ thing that pissed people off and showed Obama to be the snarky elite he is.

    Geez. the pollsters keep telling us that Obamacrats are better educated than Hillary’s supporters, I have yet to see any evidence of that.

    This is what Evan Bayh said about Obama’s SF remarks….

    “We do have economic hard times, and that does lead to a frustration and some justifiable anger, it’s true,” Bayh told reporters after introducing Clinton in Indianapolis. “But I think you’re on dangerous ground when you morph that into suggesting that people’s cultural values, whether it’s religion or hunting and fishing or concern about trade, are premised solely upon those kinds of anxieties and don’t have a legitimate foundation independent of that.”

    That’s hardly saying that he agrees with Obama’s remarks!

    You know, Obama’s arrogance seems to be growing bolder as the days and weeks go by. Even IF this comment doesn’t bring him down I predict that he will continue to make blunders like this. I also believe he’s toast in November.

    On Sunday, there were quite a few small gatherings of mayors across Pa who denounced Obama’s elitist statements. I will not be surprised when he looses here (in Pa) by double digits.

    OT… Obama’s new ad in Pa with Sen Bob Casey is laughable. Casey, who was the “not Santorum” candidate, repeats the ‘almost lie’ that Obama doesn’t take money from lobbyists. Oh really Bobby Boy? It’s just a matter of bundling, now isn’t it? Bobby Casey can bite me.

    Hammond, East Chicago and Portage are suburbs of Chicago. This is a real problem if the Senator of Chicago has lost loyalty in the region he represents.

    …it was reported last week that Bob Casey skipped an appointment he had to give a fallen soldier’s medals to his parents. He made up some sort of excuse but it turned out he went to Pittsburgh to do a photo-op with Obama. At this time I am not sure that the medals have been delivered still.

    Obama responded to a question from his rich supporters asking him why he wasn’t leading in Pennsylvania. The most telling part of his answer was
    the phrase “antipathy to people who aren’t like them.” He always throws in race when he is losing. He couldn’t possibly be losing because he is a horse’s ass. It has to be because of his race. I’s just a typical Obama statement and four years of his sh*t would be too much to take.

    And now we hear that Barack is “Bewildered” at the reaction to what he said in San Fran on Billionaire’s Row.

    Well, we can’t have Barack being “Bewildered” now can we? So, let’s point out something to Barack so he understands the reason for the reaction to his remarks to a cadre of wealthy donors in San Francisco!

    Here goes Barack:

    In 2006 Democrats were able to win with sufficient support from the white working class, which makes up 52% of the electorate.

    Democrats had gotten only 39 percent of this vote in the 2004 congressional elections; in 2006 Democrats got 44 percent of the vote, which was enough to give them a solid majority in Congress.

    Democrats’ success among these voters helped the party to pick up three house seats in Indiana (where the white working class makes up 66 percent of the voting electorate); two seats in Iowa (where it makes up 72 percent); a Senate seat in Montana (which is 68 percent white working-class); and a Senate seat, a House seat, and the governorship in Ohio (which is 62 percent white working-class).

    By 2015 the white working class is expected to fall from 52 percent to 47 percent of the U.S. electorate, but it will remain a critically important group nationally and in many elections in the Midwest and South.
