I own my home now with no mortage. But every year my taxes are going up 300 to 400 dollars, then there is the increase in utilities. I cant downsize, cause I cant sell.. I wonder how long it will before I wont be able to pay the taxes and then what???

p.s. I woke up in the middle of the night and another thought occurred to me: not only is my credit affected by this, but now my other credit cards can automatically raise their rates on me because of this incident right? One late payment on your record gives them all permission to spike your rates. Again, I have fantasies of going off grid, living in a hut in Fiji or something. This system is out of control.

I got into two fights in the past week with Chase over a two-week late statement that they then charged ME a late fee for, and refused to waive it (because I am supposed to be studying my anticipated deadlines 24/7 I guess, like I have nothing better to do). I have never been late on a payment-they didn’t care at all. He “graciously” offered to waive the interest hike the late fee triggered, to which I responded: “This is why the banks are failing–greed, and predatory practices. Cancel my card, and I am paying off the balance.” Yesterday, I got the last statement: it includes the $39 late fee, PLUS a $37 fee for interest accrued during the period I did not know existed because I did not receive a statement!?@!! Called again–they didn’t care. I was furious, and asked the guy on the phone: “Does this seem fair? You are losing good customers.” He didn’t care, and said he was “proud to work for Chase.” I told him what he could do with his job. The arrogance and indifference is unbelievable. They are just stealing money to pay for their outrageous bonuses–and Obama and Geithner (& the rest) are complicit.

A glimmer of hope? Not if you’re standing in an unemployment line. And on a personal/anecdotal note, I talked to my sister, a Florida resident. She lives about an hour south of Jacksonville. Just north of her, houses have been vacated, people simply walking away since the values are way down and the buyers had no skin in the game. And now, the homeless are squatting in the properties. I don’t blame the homeless [better than living on the street] but it does not bode well for what’s going on. Or what we’re going to see in the future. Plus, my sister reported increased crime, home invasions, to the south and west of her.

Glimmer of hope? Guess I need some of those new-fangled glasses.

There is talk of a permanent “Tent City” here in Tampa. On the upside, it never gets that cold here really… on the downside, it going to be summer soon and it is really hot and sticky to be camping here for a living.
