The Cabinet meeting in this news cycle was routine, bland, workmanlike, indifferent. The somber POTUS remark that he had ordered his Cabinet to identify an additional $100 million of cuts did call attention to itself. A $3.9 trillion Obama budget is now in debate on Capitol Hill. The mention of $100 million is trite. Bob Gates could get $100 million by cutting out coffee and donuts at Army camps and on Navy ships for six months. Why then? There must be polling about government spending, and the polling worries the White House. My professionals told me Sunday 19, especially of the Wall Street Journal, that the Tea Parties on Tax Day, protesting the usual confiscatory taxes, managed to expose another theme in American protest, which is that the federal government is wasteful. Not just the Executive, but everything, from Congress to the military to the stimulus package. Wasteful is not a partisan opinion. It is deep disregard.
The L shaped economy has years to go before there will be a sense of aggression in the American pocketbook. The Obama administration is not going to be rewarded for spending, no matter the explanation. If the POTUS is explaining too much — such as a slight $100 million cut — then the POTUS is not convincing enough. The POTUS gave away the game when he ad libbed that there is “…a confidence gap when it comes to the American people…” The word trust would have been more articulate, but the POTUS shrewdly avoided the trouble of declaring a “trust gap.” Who is the POTUS talking to? The people? Himself?
More Explaining At CIA
The report from the POTUS visit to the CIA HQ at Langley, Virginia is that it was “part pep rally and part explainer.” This is enough to make the point that the POTUS going to Langley was defensive, hesitant, ill-considered. Playing defense is not for presidents. JFK moved to fire the CIA apparatus after the Bay of Pigs. Richard Nixon never did trust the Agency and figured it was feeding the Watergate scandal revelations (it was actually the FBI). George W. Bush permitted Don Rumsfeld to ignore the CIA in the conduct of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Now POTUS Obama comes to Langley, seeking to explain himself. Not a promising start, and, like the $100 million cuts, if you are explaining too much, you are not convincing enough. Who is the POTUS talking to? The spooks? Himself?
tek
He’s a great ad libber, no? There’s a “confidence gap” all right. Starting with him using corruption to get in the WH.
Read this morning he wants to take all of Cuba’s political prisoners and their families and settle them in the U. S. Jimmy Carter redux!
He could start saving by not serving Japanese beef at every WH staff party.
Paula Revere
“Confidence gap?” LMAO. No, just counting the days until he gets the hell out of the White House he usurped. I have zero confidence in him, and I can’t get as worked up about our safety being protected by HRC as everyone else does. This jerk does what he wants and his actions of late certainly do NOT make me “confident” nor do I feel safe in my own country. He’s a sick azz mess and America’s biggest joke.
Read this morning he wants to take all of Cuba’s political prisoners and their families and settle them in the U. S. Jimmy Carter redux!
WTF is THAT about? Great, so America will become the terrorists he sets free, 35 Million illegal aliens on welfare, Hamas terrorists “migrated” here and their living paid for by us, every prisoner, terrorist, etc. free to walk among us? What a toilet the Fraud wants to make this disgusting Banana Republic. It’s outrageous what he’s doing to our country. OUTRAGEOUS.
By the way, my sister and her mother, in Miami, were raped and robbed by the last group of criminals Castro sent to America. They both died relatively soon after. Never got over it. All I can say is get a gun, and Gird Your Loins. America is going to be the Old West once again.
tek
Paula: I’m so sorry about your mother and sister. I know many people suffered terribly as a result of the influx of Cuban prisoners. Carter didn’t think that through at all. It’s another example of how these politicians disregard the American people to pursue foolish political policies. Carter thought he would show great Christian compassion for prisoners but he visited unspeakable misery on his own people.
tek
Correction: your sister’s mother.
Paula Revere
tek, yes it was my 1/2 sister and her mother. It was awful and senseless. Just think of how bad it will get if Obama pursues these radical BS actions. He makes me sick.

I am curious about why/how Obama got such a “stirring” welcome at the CIA? Who was in the “audience” that day? Administrative assistants, Payroll clerks,Human Resources staff, Mailroom attendants, Cleaning people, Computer Programmers, etc? If so, given the territory…the DC metro area, which is heavily Democrat, it doesn’t seem strange that Obama’s PR folks could round up a sympathetic crowd to attend his presentation.
I guess I would be surprised, though, if I were to find out that the audience was filled with CIA operatives and field agents.
So my guess is that the cheering people in attendance are the same kind of “pink-collar” (vis-a-vis White collar or Blue Collar) quasi-professional employees that one would find staffing the day-to-day operations at any number of Government Agencies (like the Labor Department, or the IRS, etc) or even private businesses in the Washington DC area.
I think that in that way the event was staged to show that there were “no hard feelings” between the CIA and the POTUS.
Again, I think the folks in the audience were typical “government workers” — not necessarily sophisticated or highly educated — just average DC metro folks who tend to always vote Democrat, and who are not any better informed of world events and the repercussions of Obama’s decisions.
I’d be curious to hear what others think, though, about this CIA reception….
Who wants to make a bet that Obama lets the Somali Pirate go? LMAO. His mother is begging Obama to pardon him. Seems it “wasn’t his fault.” Maybe we can migrate HIM to the US, give him a house and a car, start up some welfare and social security for him, etc. Great country we live in!!! Confidence in Obama? Yeah, right.
shadow
When Obama spoke to the Marines, I heard that the soldiers were asked who they voted for and only the ones who voted for Obama were allowed in the audience. So I would say the same probably occured at the CIA. What a sham his administration is. I don’t feel like I am living in America right now.
Paula Revere
shadow…not only did they put the Obama voters in the front, they gave them all cameras. If you look at the vid/pics, they are all using the same camera.
Karma
So after his America sucks tour he wants to make up with the CIA?
I think that smack down by Chavez got to him.
Or maybe CIA was the only thing he could read in that book. And since Chavez made him look foolish repeatedly.
Obama decided the CIA wasn’t so bad after all and he better get home and mend fences.
Here is hoping he finally understands that the world leaders didn’t drink his kool-aid.
SexSells
Typical Obama! A guy trys to kill Americans and he gives him a car! If the pirate had actually killed someone Obama would probably let him fuck Biden’s wife. Why does Obama hate America so much? What did we ever do to him?
Docelder
I know, the CIA footage looked like a pentecostal revival. I almost expect Obama to start touching some of them and simultaneously healing them. Everything is P.R. with these guys… as if the P.R. was all they need. So far, it has been.
Docelder
Maybe his aunt can adopt the pirate.
ConfusedAmerican
Im with you. From the moment I head the priate’s age I thought “they going to let him go”.
In many countries 16 and 17 year olds are considered grown men. 16 and 17 year olds have already started families in many countries. Many foriegn countries have armies with 10 or 20% of them under 18, sometimes more.
If we let this pirate go I think we will be setting up a scenerio we dont want repeated. If I remember correctly someone said all the pirates were all very young men.
Obama already looks soft, but whats new.
C.S.
The photo telling his cabinet employees, including Secretary of State Clinton, what he expected of him didn’t just look unhappy; they looked bored. We’ve all sat in meetings with that look on our face and it means “When am I going to get out of here!”
And if this really is his first cabinet meeting since his appointment and after him trotting around the globe bowing and scraping to not so friendly nations, I can understand why they look so disgruntled – the Cabinet probably doesn’t know which country they are supposed to be working for, Saudi Arabia or Communist Cuba.

CAM SHAM:OBAMA’S PHOTO-OP WAS STAGED
“Cheered wildly by U.S. troops,”AP report on Obama’s surprise visit to Iraq on Tuesday.
Quite a contrast to the silent treatment Marines gave Obama at his Camp LeJeune speech in late February. Just how did Obama manage to fix that little problem?
According to a sergeant in Iraq :
We were pre-screened, asked by officials “Who voted for Obama?”, and then those who raised their hands were shuffled to the front of the receiving line. They even handed out digital cameras and asked them to hold them up.
PGraber
If we knew the amount of money they spent on their meals, traveling, etc., in their jobs as congressmen and women, we would be appalled. I think they should have to take their lunches to work, just like we do. I’m sure the dollar amount is unbelievable.
Katmoon-Adams
ROFL…what a visual.
KmX
To fix that n time should all raise their hand to say they vote for him. And then when he shows up keep quiet. lol
Docelder
It is like the old show “The Price is Right” the most exuberant people were pre-screened. This is really the same thing, except nobody is figuring in that now out military and CIA look like game show contestants to the rest of the world.

“WHY $100 Million”? Obama set the figure, so explore as to why!
Obama has approximately 200 weeks left in power, that means 200 Wedsnsdays to go for $500,000 pizza parties, so the math is grade school:
200 X $500,000 = $100,000,000.00
Paula Revere
I saw the video of Obama addressing the Marines in February. Not ONE person clapped when he entered. None, it was dead silent and obvious what our miltary thought of the Fraud. Very weird. So, I guess they made up for it with the free cameras. Just like the free beer and concerts in Berlin, on O-Fraud’s first leg of the America Sucks World Tour. What crap this all is.
I’m a Linda too
Do we still believe Obama? Oh yes, he just came up with this tiny campaign style talking point even though he didn’t know ANY THING about the hundreds of thousands protesting across this country in Tea Parties last week.
And so funny (oy, my sides hurt)that he wants to cut 100 million (and throw Congress under the bus if they don’t make him look good, screw them!) when he himself laughed about his 1 billion dollars in earmarks in less than 4 years in the Senate, when John McCain brought that up, Weary Barry claimed it wasn’t very much to talk about.
But we should be thankful for 100 mil?
EWard
eleana
Thanks for the info about the “staged” greeting by the military orchestrated by our Prez. Impeach Obama!
termo
$100 million – only 0.03% of his budget – not even a credible token effort – and Axelrod does not understand why there are Tea Parties?
Someone else in a comment on a prior post said: $100 million – just enough for him to get Chinese take-out from Beijing.
This is from Glenn Beck’s show. It’s a very simple explanation of our financial situation and the “Economic Armageddon” coming. While these twits spend, spend, spend, and the Fraud has $500,000 pizza, we’re going to hell. Big time. And why on EARTH is that stupid azz Barney Frank still making ANY suggestions about the economy after he destroyed this country with Freddie and Fannie?
Paula Revere
Good one Doc. Maybe they’ll bring in a few snakes and start speaking in tongues too!

Yes agreed, but the moonbats know their time is short and their time is now. They are frantic to try to force a socialistic system upon us by any means. They don’t care if it takes deception, or if it ruins the retirements and livelihoods of working America. They don’t care period. They want their socialistic change and they want to be European now.
alibe
100 million is about half of what he wasted on his innaugural party.
Paula Revere
Ughhh…You are right Doc. The moonbats are on a seek and destroy mission and they won’t stop until we are indentured servants on the Fraud Plantation/Banana Republic. It makes me puke. I just pray that when we oust the moonbats we can repair the damage. Pretty sure it will take forever to undo what the moonbats have already done.

No, he doesn’t speak any foreign languages. Hehe.

This cabinet meeting was his FIRST FULL cabinet meeting. And the cutting of this miniscule amount of money by the Departments is laughable. He is a joke.

We can’t buy Cuba because Obama has spent all of our money for the next 2,000 years.
Portia Elizabeth

“Confidence Gap” and “Constitution Gap!”
Do you live in a Constitution-Free Zone? If you live in the state of Florida, you do.
Expanding Border Powers Creating ‘Constitution-Free Zone’ That Covers Two-Thirds of Americans
(10/22/2008)
WASHINGTON – The extraordinary powers of customs and border agents to invade the privacy of individuals at the U.S. border are spreading inland and creating what amounts to a “Constitution-free Zone” that covers fully two-thirds of the American population, the American Civil Liberties Union said today in a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.
“The authorities can do things at the border that they could never do to citizens and residents inside our country under the Constitution,” said Caroline Fredrickson, director of the ACLU Washington Legislative Office. “Yet the government is asserting that some of these powers extend as far as 100 miles inside the actual border. It is a classic example of law enforcement powers expanding far beyond their proper boundaries – in this case, literally.”
At the press conference, the ACLU released a map showing the 100-mile “border region” claimed by the government, and cities and states that fall within it. The map, which was created using the latest census data, shows that fully two-thirds of the U.S. population, including 9 of the nation’s top 10 largest metro areas, is within the border zone.
[...]
San Diego music professor Craig Johnson, and Vince Peppard, a San Diego retiree who with his wife was stopped by the authorities on a road east of San Diego, at least 15 miles from the U.S. border. Peppard and his wife proved they were U.S. citizens but still found themselves subject to demands that they allow a search, interrogated, threatened and harassed.
“Now I’m actually feeling nervous when I’m going to work. . . that I might get pulled over by Border Patrol and asked, ‘where’s your passport?’” said Peppard, who appeared at the event via videotape. “And now – do I have to carry my passport with me when I go to Home Depot or something?”
“In the United States, citizens are not supposed to need an internal passport,” said Steinhardt. “This is our country and we are free to go where we please, without being stopped and interrogated by the authorities, as long as we are not behaving illegally or in a way that is clearly suspicious.”
An interactive version of the “Constitution-free Zone” map, a video of Vince Peppard, and other materials are available at:

People, memorize that figure and spread it around: 0.007 percent or, .00007 of the deficit.

Yes he can… For the “child” pirate who was forced onto the pirate vessel by the actual adult pirates and whose single handed effort helped rescue the captain by allowing him to jump overboard twice. I can almost see Geraldo beaming about it already. A moonbat hero.

It’s been a long 4 decades since I worked at Langley, but I’m fairly certain undercover agents would NOT attend any function with the press corps in tow.
I think CIA employees, in general, are still recovering from the traumas of the Bush administration: Valerie Plame and Porter Goss. Any positive presidential nods HAS to be welcome.
I’d love to hear Larry’s opinion on this too.

Just like when you see a tv show being filmed, and they tell you to clap when so and so does something, I am sure the CIA was told to cheer for Obama when he came in, otherwise they would be thrown off the plane….

In a country like Somalia, with total chaos, how are statistical records kept? Are they kept? More likely, there no record of his birth date, and why would his mother be truthful? And how did she get access to so much media? Is it really his mother?

I bet that it cost about 100 million dollars for Obama’s entourage to tour Europe, Mexico and Trinidad in just the last 3 weeks alone. I’d sure like to know just exactly what was spent and if that group was typical for a President to travel with. It seems that there are quite a few new staff positons being created by this administration. Doesn’t about every single cabinet post have a Czar or 2?
Arabella Trefoil
I don’t doubt for a minute that your family suffered terribly as a result of the Marilatos (sp?).
I know of many people who endured hardships as a result of the increase of crime brought on by an Carter’s poorly planned actions.
Obama is much dumber than Carter. If Castro offered to send all his violent criminals over to the United States, I’ll bet Obama would agree in a heartbeat. Compassion is fine, as long as it is tempered with common sense.
Arabella Trefoil
Obama is full of shit. I think the CIA recruited RotoRooter employees to cheer Obama. Lots of septic fields to clear out = lots of jobs for RotoRooter.

Having a “Constitution-free zone” is un-Constitutional on it’s face. The Constitution states that the rights mentioned, and not mentioned, apply to all PERSONS in the United States or on its sovereign territory. That means it applies to the people held at Guantanamo, and every other person inside the US border, whether they are there legally or not. There cannot be a “Constitution-free zone. Someone should mention this to the Border Protection people. Soon.
