It is bad enough that you don’t care what voters in FL and MI have to say, but to want to blow off the remaining primaries so Sen. Obama can win is very wrong. After you and Sen. I think we need a new name for the party. Dean needs to look up the definition of “democracy.” My dictionary defines it as “Government exercised either directly by the people or through elected representatives.” His definition is “by the DNC and before some of the votes are counted.”

I missed that part. When questioned by Wolf whether they should vote based on number of states won, delegates, etc. he responded that they should vote their conscience, that is what they are called upon to do. I thought for once he hadn’t stuck his foot in his mouth.

He’s referring to the 2-3 months between Puerto Rico and the convention, not to forgo the remaining contests. Otherwise his comment makes no sense — there are only about 6 weeks left until the last primary.

I don’t think you are being fair to Susan, Donald. It is impossible to interpret Dean’s comments any other way than as an attempt to close the primary before the states have voted. Saying: “I need them to say who they are for NOW” –undermines anything else he may have said, however reasonable. The superdelegates have the right to wait it out. Nowhere in the rules does it say they have to say at any time before the convention. It is just another disingenuous attempt to try to close the nomination early – this from the guy who punished FL and MI from stepping ahead in line.

If the “line” doesn’t count, why are they being punished for stepping out of line? And if the “line” does count, why is Dean trying to cut it short? If there is damage to the Dem Party if the primary runs this long, then why are these primaries scheduled this late? The question is, is the DNC going to follow its rules or not? Seems they follow the ones they want and ignore the rest and we all know why.

Dean is a coward, and I once thought he would be a brave leader for the Democratic Party. He wants the super-delegates to put BO over the top before he would admit the FL and MI delegates. Then he would have effectively nullified the power of those votes in the nomination process, while not excluding them in the final count. It’s essentially the same as BO’s boneheaded proposal to split the delegates 50/50.

I saw a similar and longer version posted at TM. In that version Dean actually seemed to be saying that it was important to finish the primaries and then have SDs come forward. I think it is important to have a correct take. There was also comment that Dean did not look physically well. Does anyone know if union members from FL are still picketing national DNC hq? What happened in MI today? I understand there was to be a march at the capitol. I think Dean has done a terrible job but I don’t want to paint him with damaging words he did not say.

Second, everyone is complaining how last nights debate was 45 minutes of non issue things about what will affect voters!

I have this to simply say on it, had Obama answered directly and simply instead of his long winded non-responses, that segmant could have ended in less than half the time last night! Therefore the time utilized for the so called non-issues was a result of intransparencies of Obama!

I am sure that George and Charles would have liked to have more questions on the economy, but Obama simply has no answers to anything and wastes valueable time with dead air space during the debates and long winded non-answers!

This is why I think PA will be a blow out for Hillary.

The comments section of most local papers sometimes can be pretty childish but some times it can give you an idea of how the locals are feeling.

I am in NC and our local paper’s comments on politics is pretty divided between ALL 3 which leads me to believe Hillary and BO will probably tie here (at least in western nc)

Frankly, I think that Howard is willing to implode the Democratic Party and let Soros and Huffington remake it into an elite (yet lonely) paradise where only the uber hip and painfully PC are welcome. Howard is letting this happen for one reason, and one reason alone. EGO. He is so enamoured with his “50-state strategy” (or is that 48-state?), and is Deanie beanies, and is overidentification with the youth vote, that he is willing to ride Axelrove’s coattails to prove a point. Axelrove teaches the Trippi/Dean strategy in his political classes (scary that he teaches, isn’t it?), and Dean is lapping it up. They want to remake the Party with young voters and AA voters who have previously not participated. Apparently the tent is only so big, so those of us who have been here all along are no longer welcome.

The only problem with this scenario is that according to Chris Matthews, “Women will get in line in Nov.” You know those of us who are Hill supporters are too stupid to make a decision for ourselves so we certainly would not be capable of taking a pledge.

How dare Howard Dean attempt to foreclose on the remaining primary elections. The candidates are virtually tied, and both need the superdelegates in order to gain the nomination. But the Obama campaign has obstructed the counting of votes in Florida and Michigan, and now Senator Barack Obama himself, in addition to being egregiously unprepared for the presidency–as his disastrous debate performance in Philadelphia showed once again last night–has also rendered himself unfit even to be a candidate for that office, as proved by video footage shot in North Carolina, in which Senator Obama is clearly seen to be directing a well-known obscene gesture toward Senator Hillary Clinton. I can only conclude that the Democratic National Committee wants to lose the presidential election this year. If Senator Obama is the party’s nominee, I will do everything in my power to bring that defeat about–and I am a lifelong Democrat. I am sorry that I ever worked on behalf of Dr. Dean in 2004.

As a candidate, Howard Dean was simply awful. As for his performance as party chairman, I wonder if the Whig Party had a national chairman before their demise. The DNC set up the election calendar. The DNC was for for that calendar before it was against it.

Brazile is not a homophobe. I believe I recall hearing her state on one of the Sunday talking head shows (Stephanapolous, I think) that she is in fact a lesbian.

Now Billy Bob’s (the Augusta Chronicle’s owner) dad literally K.O. the Cracker machine with his fist — and did a great service to the country in destroying it — so the Republicanism of that paper isn’t your Neo-Con variety. Of COURSE it doesn’t matter what your sexual orientation is, and of course it is personal. However, in selecting who you vote for as President, it does matter a lot. This is a position that is keey to the unlocking (or locking) of rights. This is a position where opinion rolls downhill, as do votes sometimes. So in that context, it does matter.

Everytime I get a fund raising email from the DNC, I tell them,” not until FL and MI are counted”. If they short circuit the process, I will leave the party. One of the core Democratic principles is voter rights. If Dean insists on disenfranchising millions of voters and nominating an illegitimate candidate, leaving will be easy. I don’t think they could call themselves Democrats anymore.

Totally true. I should be a Republican under those rules too. If I was just voting my economic interests I would want to pay less in taxes. Obama raising the cap would affect me.
If everyone voted their personal economic interests we wouldn’t have social security or medicare because people with good jobs would block it. We vote for these things because we want a decent society that takes care and helps people when they need it. The argument about voting your only on your own economic interests will back fire on Democrats because it is the height of self-centeredness.
