“Exhale” and Open Thread [Updates]

UPDATE: I hear that Hillary Clinton will be on CNN’s Larry King Live on Monday night, before the Pennsylvania primary.

UPDATE 2: I also hear that Rev. Jeremiah Wright will be a guest on PBS’s Bill Moyers Journal next Friday. (I’d been wondering when Bill Moyers would address the Wright controversy.)

And what else is going on in this big beautiful world?

In my world, it snowed briefly this afternoon, but now it is gloriously sunny and in the mid-50s. Go figure.

  • Vimes

Yes! Let us other Democrats breath. Because we all know that if ‘the One’ doesn’t get the nomination he will go Independent just like his mentor, Lieberman.

    • salo

I posted Thom’s video right after Iowa on Dkos.
I felt the party drowning that day. I forsaw the sexism and racism split. And i knew Teh party was going to be in huge trouble.

Although I’d bet Yorke is happy enough to have Obama or Clinton the video captures something about the terror that is occuring.

I also found some choice Kamikaze footage set to Japanese drumming. I’ll post it. That’s how I see the Obama kids–untrained teen Pilots going up against the veteran US and Royal Navy.

The Divine Pilot against the Profane Sailor.

I feel the same way, but there is hope in the TRUTH. And, I keep looking at Hillary never giving up, NEVER.

  • http://liberalrapture.com Lynne

I posted something on my site tonight about a group called the Courage Campaign who wanted to protest ABC today in Burbank for their “mistreatment” of Senator Obama.

I could have named the post Lynne in Lakeland Loses it because I was somewhat miffed that they would PROTEST Senator Obama being asked “tough” questions.

    My response is, TOUGH.

  • SensibleWoman

I think only on things that are just, admirable, and praiseworthy…named Hillary.

  • Vimes

Oh yes…hope springs eternal in all living creatures, plant, human, et al. Lets hope that ‘Hope’ means not delusion.

I’m happy for warm days, but know that in this time of year it is transient.

My family seder is tomorrow night and I’m very moved by this from Hillary.

Statement By Hillary Clinton On Passover

As Jewish families across the world prepare to gather together around the Seder table, I am delighted to offer greetings and good wishes for a joyous Passover.
I have always been inspired by the enduring words of the Haggadah: “In every generation, each of us must see ourselves as if we personally came out of Egypt.” It’s through remembering the past that we become strong and effective advocates for all who suffer the indignity and pain of servitude and injustice. I am deeply moved by this timeless cry to stand up to oppression, tyranny, and discrimination — wherever they are found.
As you prepare your homes and your hearts for this Passover season, please know that Bill, Chelsea, and I join you in celebrating freedom and family.
Hag Sameach — May this be a season of joy for all!

    • SensibleWoman

“In every generation, each of us must see ourselves as if we personally came out of Egypt.”

She ABSOLUTELY “gets it” for everybody.

    • Hope

Happy Pesach! I wish I had somewhere to go but I don’t.

Have a good one Mary Jo.

      • simon, too

        Happy Passover, Mary Jo.

You know, I have this wonderful recipe for flourless chocolate cake, made with espresso.

Made it last weekend, and it was wonderful, sort of like a fudge torte.

This is my favorite Radiohead song:

I really love the way the guitar sounds like wind chimes. I was walking my dog one day and walked past some wind chimes and they sounded alot like the intro.

  • OxyCon

Do you think Moyers is going to try to mainstream and rehabilitate Wright’s public image?
I have a feeling that he will.

    • ChrisXP

Do you think Moyers is going to try to mainstream and rehabilitate Wright’s public image?

I’m more curious why the ADL didn’t give Wright the same treatment they gave Mel.

  • Nick

Yes, breathe…have a good weekend, everyone!! I’m going to do some cooking, go for my first run of the season, and see about calling PA for Sen. Obama.
    Bless you all.

    • simon, too

Um, I might stay clear of Obama for awhile.

Things look to get interesting, even if you dont see it on the news.

      Really.

Obama’s people aren’t the brightest, it’s kind of like watching lemmings fall off the cliff.

      Again.

Too stupid to find the pattern, just like the republican trolls, losers of major wars.

I was thinking yesterday of poor David Geffen.

good idea. hillary would knock him out, no matter what weapons.

      • ChrisXP

good idea. hillary would knock him out, no matter what weapons.

With weapons, the aim isn’t to “knock the opponent out”, it’s to kill them.

’51 Navy Colts and 3 paces would be quite bloody as a duel (but knowing each, they’ll probably miss at even that range).

Gone are the days when the Democrat Andy Jackson went to his grave, with at least 2 duel bullets still in his body.

        • simon, too

I have to deal with this group at work, graduated from college, say, in 1965, or 75, or 85, 95, even 2005.

And they never progress, you know, like a doctor who graduates from med school in 1990, and still practices 1990 medicine, even though it’s 2008.

Really frustrating, sometimes, they can’t see this aspect of their personalities, or thinking, and they’re not graceful enough to step aside for the new and better, or smart enough to stay competitive, embracing it.

          It’s fatal, really.

You can see it now in the war, and the tech crowds, practicing failed 2003 methods, even though it’s 2008, and much has been learned.

I was watching Obama’s SF crowd, the video, from last week, and I thought, my goodness, the SF wonder boys are stuck, the googlebomb crew has aged.

Ever see them with their backward baseball caps, quoting rap lyrics, 35-36 years old, with kids, and still trying to troll like they did when they were 31, still thinking it’s 2003, and they’re relevant? I mean, it’s been five years, catch a clue.

OT, but thanks for letting me vent, Chris, it’s going to be a long weekend…

  • GR3

Thanks for the open thread and video.
I’ll always remember seeing Radiohead at The Gorge.
While it looks like Obama will be the Dem nominee, Hillary still has the most important role left to any other Dem. How will she handle it?
This campaign to win the nomination is hopefully relevant to the country’s future. My fear is that Iran will be attacked and any dissent (as in opposing opinions) will be punished and elections forestalled.
My hope is that the Libertarian Party will get more votes than the Repugs!

    • simon, too

I don’t get Radiohead, never did, I just don’t hear it.

Why do people think they’re relevant?

  • Shirin

What’s going on my MY world is that I am sitting in a city that contains at least a couple of million Iraqis who no longer have homes, jobs, or very much hope thanks to the United States.

What’s going on in my world is that I just finished a conversation with a Syrian taxi driver who, when I asked him whether he liked Clinton or Obama better, he insisted that it’s all the same because all of them are targetting the Arabs and the Muslims. I agreed with him.

    • Centrocitta

I agree with him too. Write in Ron Paul.

  • Shirin

Oh yeah – and in my world last night I met an American couple who have been living in Damascus for three years devoting themselves to helping Iraqi refugee students get college educations. This year they have managed to get twenty into colleges and universities. Twenty out of how many hundreds of thousands? Who has been left behind forever?

And what are other Americans doing for Iraqis – aside from petty carping about stupid trivia – interpreting something some candidate did or said twenty years ago, or trying to connect another candidate by a 5,000 mile spider’s thread to Saddam Hussein, or making ludicrous connections with terrorism? Stupid, absurd character assisination attempts on the part of both sides while the rest of the world starves.

Thank GOD for the people I met last night, who, with no grandiosity and no delusions of importance, actually try to make some small difference to some small number of people.

    • simon, too

Shirin, Obama is most likely making money off terrorism, and the war.

Removing him, and the ring he is a part of, might go a long way toward quelling at least SOME of the violence.

      A start, anyway.
