may god bless the dogs and all animals. i think back to the hurricane that hit no last year. as i recall so many of the "owners" who left their dogs for transport never bothered to pick them up. what was their excuse??? i know there are many who may have real financial issues with their animals, but i have to say that the throw away mindset in this country apalls me.

I wish Bo would have been rescued as well...too bad. It would have been a great example to set for the nation.

Glad to know your fighting to help rescue dogs and animals alike

Dogpile.com just launched a new site called http://www.DoGreatGood.com - and their donating a portion of there revenue to Petfinder and the ASPCA.

Great that theres a way we can help dog adoption programs at no cost.

Love the site - keep it up!!!

Pat, Congratulations on a year of wonderful cartoons and accompanying presentations of issues. You are not only a creative cartoonist, but a writer who makes us think seriously about important issues. Your readers have the opportunity to comment and argue about controversial issuea. To be sure, some of the comments reflect a lot of rage and disappointment about the outcome of the election and dire predictions about the future of the country under present leadership. But there are some who feel that the President is making an honest effort to deal with the broad range of problems he inherited from the past asministration and doing the best he can with a bad deck. I think we need to give him some time to see what can be done to help rescue the economy and create an atmosphere for better international relations.

As for the pup, it seems he got an offer he felt he couldn't resist. Nevertheless, his encouragement of others to do what he had said he wanted to do may actually stimulate more adoptions of homeless pets. I hope it works out that way.

Hi Sis
Congratulation on your first anniversary. The whole family is very proud of you and your talent.
As for the Obamas Im sad that they didnt let the girls expeirence the wonderful feeling of adopting a pet. As you, mom and I and millions of others out there know, opening your homes to an animal that would otherwise come to a horrific end is so heart warming. They make such a wonderful addition to the family.
Love ya

Happy 1st anniversary, Pat!

I always enjoy your cartoons, but that happy little puppy is especially poignant because of the dashed hopes he represents. As someone who's done pet rescue and who donates to several animal orgs, I was extremely saddened when BO didn't follow through on his promise to adopt a shelter dog. Some might accuse me of anthropomorphizing, but I believe shelter dogs understand when they're rescued and try even harder to show their gratitude.

Two years ago we adopted a 9-year-old Malamute mix from a local shelter. He'd been there for months because most people don't want an older dog. His story was that (after 9 years of being someone's faithful pet!), he was a threat to their new baby. A total lie. He's the gentlest, sweetest dog in the world. He's also a strong defender of our family and a joyful companion. He even tolerates my cats.

That is why every time he refers to it, he calls it "the people's house" so that he doesn't have to say white house.

As I remember it, the reason that the "doggie" search took so long was an allergy problem. So what did the Stoner-in-Chief get? An animated mop. (Despite appearances, I nave nothing against furry pets.)

Beautiful cartoon! If they had found a dog that looked like this I am sure the children would have insisted on it, unless the children really did not have much of a voice as to what dog was going to be theirs.

The cartoon that I would have liked would have two dogs in it, one being a shelter dog that could look almost as cute as this dog and the other is a Portuguese Water Dog. In the cartoon the shelter dog is about to be put to sleep and the Portuguese Water Dog is saying to the other dog “To bad you are not like me.”

Another promise made, but not kept.
