That Sucking Sound You Hear is Frank Rich

In the wake of Obama’s disastrous debate performance in Philadelphia is it any surprise that Frank Rich is part of the rescue squad?  Barack was so listless and feckless last Tuesday that his Obama’s Boys Choir of worshipful bloggers surged into crisis mode to try to repair the damage.  Aroused to shrill outrage, the Obama mob denounced ABC News’ Charles Gibson and George Stephanopooulos for having the, er, audacity to ask the transformative messiah some factual questions about his relationships with the likes of his 20 year pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah (“God Damn America!”) Wright, and Weather Underground terrorist and fundraiser William (“I don’t regret setting bombs!”) Ayers. Talk about chickens coming home to roost.

Obama proved that when it comes to verbal tap dancing he ain’t go no rhythm.  His responses were a series of passive abstractions, non-answers, and silly defenses. (e.g., Ayers, he said, is “a professor of English in Chicago.” Well, actually a professor of education, something Obama ought to know because he appeared as a state senator at a public forum with him organized by Michelle Obama to discuss legislation Ayers advocated to reduce sentences of violent youth offenders–legislation Obama indeed proposed.)  So what does Obama do when he makes a mess of things?  Blame Hillary of course, only this time Obama decided to get in touch with his gangsta self.  He appeared before bedazzled cultists and did a political rap imitation of his hero, Jay-Z, and flipped Hillary “the middle finga.” Most teenagers would be grounded for a month and have the car keys taken away for such juvenile dramatics but Barack, you see, is THE ONE.  Obama’s immature antics were greeted with groveling hallelujahs from the Obama Boys Choir. Cool. A preview of coming attractions when, should he be elected, President Obama can vent his frustrations with the wiley Iranian leader and flip him off.  That will be totally cool.  For shizz.  (Of course this means Obama will probably recant his complaints about Don Imus. When you go gangsta, mime Jay Z (who loves calling ladies bitches and hos), and let your daughters hang out every week at racist, anti-American, anti-Semitic church, how can you keep Don in the doghouse?

Helping lead the mendacity chorus singing Obama’s praises is the basso profundo blunderbuss himself, lying Frank Rich. His latest column in defense of Obama was in keeping with his extraordinary intellectual dishonesty, relying primarily on a jumble of insults, distortions and false accusations. Typical of his method, he blames others for low tactics, but then disrobes and jumps head first into the cesspool. All the while conveniently shaving evidence, omitting significant facts and smearing with abandon.

Rich opines that questions about Wright and Ayers are beyond the pale:

“Of course, Obama fans were angry because of the barrage of McCarthyesque guilt-by-association charges against their candidate, portraying him as a fellow traveler of bomb-throwing, America-hating, flag-denigrating terrorists.”

Unsurprisingly, Rich never mentions Ayers, not once. It’s all “guilt-by-association.” Why bothers with facts when you can accues others of being “McCarthyesque.”

Then Rich moves on to smear Hillary as a way to explain away Obama’s condescending remarks about “bitter” small-town and working class Pennsylvanians at a San Francisco donors’ event. Not only is Hillary at fault for what Obama said, she’s the hypocrite for campaigning for the votes of those “bitter” working people, and she’s also somehow antigay. How’s that?!?!

According to Rich, Hillary was:

“Not content merely to piously feign shock about Mr. Obama’s San Francisco soliloquy (and the operative political buzzword here is San Francisco, which stands for you-know-what), Mrs. Clinton couldn’t resist presenting herself as an unambiguously macho, beer-swilling hunting enthusiast.”

Got it, because Hillary criticized Obama for his demeaning comments made in San Francisco she’s really engaging in a covert antigay smear. Talk about “guilt-by-association.” Once again, Rich is making a Big Lie. He was among one of the first pro-Obama pundits falsely to accuse Hillary of race baiting, when in fact it was the Obama campaign that was pushing that theme. Now, he’s pushing the false notion that Hillary must be antigay because, well, Obama made his stupid statement in San Francisco, and criticizing him must be antigay.

Rich, however, ignores that it was Obama, not Hillary, who refused to give an interview to the Philadellphia Gay News. Hillary gave the interview; Obama did not.

And what about this? The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Obama would not be photographed shaking hands with May Gavin Newsom:

‘Just four years ago, current Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is said to have declined to have his picture taken in San Francisco with Newsom, who was then at the center of a national uproar over his decision to allow same-sex marriage in San Francisco.”

‘”I gave a fundraiser, at his (Obama’s) request at the Waterfront restaurant,” said former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown. “And he said to me, he would really appreciate it if he didn’t get his photo taken with my mayor. He said he would really not like to have his picture taken with Gavin.”‘
http://www.sfgate.com/flat/archive/2008/02/05/chronicle/archive/2008/02/05/BAM5US1B5.html?tsp=1

And it is Obama, not Clinton, who has surrounded himself with a bevy of ministers known for  anti-homosexual advocacy.  In fact, the title of Obama’s book, The Audacity of Hope, comes from a sermon by Jeremiah Wright that included an anti-gay diatribe.

Leave it to little Frankie Rich to attack Hillary Clinton for the actual conduct and record of Obama.  He proves that hatred is blind, because he has demonstrated beyond any doubt that he is willing to ignore facts in pursuit of his love for Barack Obama.  We know that nature abhors a vacuum.  Does that also mean that nature abhors the vacuous mind of Frank Rich?  I think so.

Check website, American research group . They make a very good argument about their results

When you are up in polls , flaunt it. It is perhaps not surprising that the MSM have not reported this. They keep good polls for Hilary silent and good polls for Obama are advertised everywhere. Another form of voter suppression

Not only did Obama cochair a Board with William Ayers; he also crafted legislation with the terrorist cum Education professor. Let us also recall how Ayers hosted one of Obama’s first fundraisers in 1996. And lest one accuse me of omitting aspects of Obama’s elaborate and checkered past with the Weather Underground terrorist, I will mention that Obama and Ayers funneled revenue to Rezko and Allison Davis, who similar to Ayers resides in the Kenwood/Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago.

Apparently, Russert has no journalistic principles left.

On “Meet the Press” today, he repeated the long list of “Why Hillary cannot win” at least three times, and never once mentioned that it was similarly impossible for Obama to win.

He allowed Axelrod to outright lie – at least three times.

(Hillary Clinton never said that she would “garnish wages.” That was George Stephanopoulos, who asked her four times if she was planning to garnish wages, and four times she demurred.)

    • http://hyper-educated-uppity-woman.blogspot.com Uppity

Russert always looks to me like he should be run through a care wash to clean him up. I really don’t care what he has to say, to be honest.

My grandmother used to say that a lie could run half way around the world while the truth is still tying it’s shoes. But eventually, the truth has a sprint. Sooner or later. Thus the term, “truth catches up to you”.

      • ginamc

Uppity–yes, my Mom used to say that saying too. Russert is pathetic. I think he reached his all-time low a few weeks ago when he had Andrew Sullivan and C. Hutchen on his weekend show. There they were taking turns tearing Hillary apart, and Russert did not utter one peep for the entire hour. And, the day prior, when he came up with his new Math presentation, stating the BO Talking Points that he did not need to have FL and MI to win the GE. All done in an effort to debunk Hillary and any SD talking points she may be concocting. He is pathetic. But hey… he met with Pope, so “it’s all good.”

Obama is dangerously unqualified. He is wrong on national defense and security, on values, on the economy, on a vision for America. Socialism will help America’s economy? Continued illegal immigration straining our institutions, infrastructure and spiralling violence out of control will help our economy? Demented “save the planet” nonesense making our energy cost even more will help our economy? Increased taxes based upon a Marxist based class warfare ideology will help the economy? NObama!

    • deke

Obama’s economic policies are not socialist but the exact opposite which maybe worse. His economic advisors are big time corporatist who belief in free market Reaganomic principles
Vote Hillary for sane economic policy.

      • Nag

I just hate it when people say that Clinton’s and Obama’s economic plans are the same, don’t you? Look at his advisors, as you say. They are not ‘left of center’, they are rightwingers. Obama is not a policy wonk… who do you think will implement an economic plan? Obama who can’t answer anything more than the most basic of policy questions without hemming and hawing and then changing the subject? Or those right wing economic advisors of his?

Hillary is the policy wonk, and I wouldn’t have my president be any other way.

Hey Larry, Frank Rich is a tool. Agreed.
What about when The Messiah was asked if Rev. Wright loved the good ol’ US of A as much as he did, and he responded that Wright was a former Marine. I have nothing but respect for the Marines, but that doesn’t mean that the Corps can’t have a bad apple. Lee Oswald was Marine, but that didn’t stop him from shooting at the Ol’ Commander in Chief. I’m not equating Wright’s nasty words with Dallas, but I am saying that Obama’s retort was stupid, especially considering what awful things Wright said about our country — and being a former marine doesn’t excuse those comments, Barack.

    • jwrjr

Wright was a Marine. That’s nice. Now answer the question. (directed at the Anointed One.)

    Larry:
Don’t even dignify Rich and Dowd with your comments–they are basically acting as part of Senator Obama’s campaign machine. But, as I learned during a short trip from the East to the West coast and back in the last 4 days, Rich and Dowd do have a lot of company in liberal circles. They blame Senator Clinton of being shrill and aggressive and old-time party machine and fail completely to see that Obama ups Clinton in all those departments.
Unfortunately, I am close to throw in the towel. I am increasingly afraid that the fall line-up will be McCain versus Obama and that the next president of the United States will be the senator from Arizona.

    • PMS

Unfortunately, I am close to throw in the towel. I am increasingly afraid that the fall line-up will be McCain versus Obama and that the next president of the United States will be the senator from Arizona.

Which, even more sadly, would be the best of the alternatives to Hillary.

But hang in there! Hillary is, and we must not give up until she does (and only if)! This is a defining moment in American political history, and we are HONORED to be part of it!

      HILLARY ’08!

Don’t throw in the towel just yet, Brigitte. I think Hillary will do very well in PA, and that will help her in the other primaries. Plus, more and more bad things are coming out about Barry every day.

  • Nag

Obama couldn’t strongarm Hillary into quitting, so they’re ratcheting up the shrill-o- meter with their ongoing lies and smears on her. Blame Hillary. Don’t they know how desperate and rediculuos they sound?

It’s breathtaking how the BloggerBoiz’ attacks are so synchronized with those in the media who bark to the same moon. As mentioned above in this thread, the msm mostly ignores good Hillary polls, quite possibly as a method of voter suppression. The fear is palpable and the attacks breathless and often just as mindless. The Boiz have been living in their bubble so long that they don’t know how small an influence the blogging world has on mainstreet/mainstream America. (That’s America with a c.)

I live here in Pa, and on Tuesday Hillary Clinton will take Pennsylvania with double digits easily. Maybe close to 20%, we’ll see. Then Frank Rich and Obama’s followers will be taking turns trying to break the shrill-o-meter. You know why? Because Hillary will have the momentum she needs, and the wind at her back.

Larry, great post. Way to tear the wings off of that little insect Frank Rich.

As a former resident of SE PA the Democratic Party worked very hard to win the districts outside of Philadelphia. I think an Obama nomination would greatly lessen Sestak’s reelection bid as well as some others in PA, upstate NY (Kirsten Gillibrand), Ind, and other areas that are middle of the road to conservative. Most of them are Clinton supporters. I don’t want to lose Sestak and Gillibrand

I often wonder why Left Blogistan, and the MSM to which they aspire, harp on ‘tightening polls’. If they prattled on about the SUSA poll which has her ahead by 14-18 points it might actually lead some HRC supporters to stay home because they believe she has it in the bag.

The reason I’m not a conservative Democrat is, because I’m v-e-r-y strict on the Law (personally want executions as public events — because ever since they stopped it, capital crimes have soared!).

Civilization could not exist without laws, or it would be anarchy. Even animals have a pecking order, and if it’s broken, the best the animal can hope for is to be adopted into another group. Otherwise they’ll have to suffer alone (which means they’ll be a predator’s play toy and food).

Babying habitual criminals as an “act of kindness” does not help civilization, it helps to destroy it. Habitual criminals CHOOSE to not just disagree with a law, they’ll break it because they consider themselves special (“Everyone else must obey it, but not I”).

Just want to let you knwo there is still hope in this world. i was out canvassing today. Met lots and LOTS of Hillary supporters. I did speak with one group of folks (the woman on the canvas list had friends over and they all wanted to talk,) who had been supporting Obama on the advice of their college aged kids (Chicago college- who would have guessed) They had been supporting O believing him to be more electable (gee wonder where they got that dumb idea)
We got to talking issues, veteran’s care, the new GI Bikk of rights, getting our money away from the oil men and investing in green jobs. Hillary’s health care plan.
I swear I did not bring it up but they told me they are going to vote Hillary after all. Reason? The news coming out about the shining one is not looking so appetizing. After watching the debate, they decided there was no way Obama was going to win the GE. They know what the GOP is going to do to him and they want a Dem in the House.

At the caucus in WA — one Obama supporter said we should ALL vote for Obama — because that’s what the kids want and this is NOW their world.

I hissed at him. What a stupid jerk.

There is a reason why we are adults — we have been there and done that. AND we mature folk who lived through the 60s and 70s have seen Obama-types already.

I witnessed the Black Power movement in the SF Bay area — there was a whole lot of racism. These are the ones who broke away from the MLK civil rights and peace movement — they wanted changes NOW. Violence just doesn’t work.

Also I spend time in a British colony — and there are a lot of Brits who remember the domestic IRA terrorism (that was supported by AMERICANS). Many know victims of the terrorism — or have relatives who were killed or injured.

Rev. Wright sure seems to be advocating terrorism with his hate sermons. And then there is Ayers — Obama needs to be questioned again and again until the truth of his relationship with Ayers is revealed. WE Americans have a right to know EVERYTHING.

These Obama apologists are despicable. I really have zero respect for anyone who continues to support and excuses Obama past.

Rich behaved in a totally predictable manner.

So did Dowd and Bill Maher and Charlie Rose.

It’s like the old cold war chestnut that you could trust the Communists……….
    to be Communists.

Accordingly, I am going to die of a massive overdose of Shadenfreunde when Clinton rolls over the bastards.

You can still Trust a Communist to be a Communist..
even when they call them selfs something else for a Mask..just in case they are Journalists..or Professors or WUNKERS..

Another after thought: Alot of investors put their $$ in mutual funds as opposed to individual stocks. Any profits gained from mutual funds are taxed in the yr they’re earned (unrealized gain many times) while taxes aren’t due on individual stocks until you sell them, assuming you make a profit. I hope all the folks that like mutual funds are paying attention to what Sen Obama is saying. And all the senior citizens who have their life savings in CDs & have them structured to kick out an extra couple hundred bucks a month in dividends to add to their SS are going to be in for one whoopin’ big suprise.

whoops! meant to say interest NOT dividends

Thanks for the thoughtful analysis of Frank Rich’s latest diatribe, Larry. I noticed Rich’s glossing over of Obama’s assoications, but Rich’s nasty insinuation that Hillary must be a homophobe for critizing Obama’s remarks in San Francisco completely went over my head! Unbelievable! After all, Hillary wasn’t the one running around campaigning with a homophobic minister–that was Obama. And to Hillary Clinton’s credit, one of her chief policy advisors is Barney Frank–not exactly the choice that a homophobe would make.

Larry, get with it! No one calls it “flipping the finger” any more. We call it “flipping an Obama.” Just like in Kenya, where they call Senator brand bottled beers “Obamas.” Just what I want: Kenyan beer nicknamed after POTUS. Can we bring any more dignity to our White House than that?

I retreat to my 5×8 Inner Office (the one with no phone) with my morning papers and take a big NIXON just before sunup every day. And have done so since I did the same thing in a small, corrugated metal enclosure with half an oil drum and 5 gallons of Diesel fuel.

Only one candidate puts the white in White House, and the man in Commander in Chief. John McCain. The least uncouth candidate.

  • Hillary is the Best

  • Donald from Hawaii

Frank Rich, former New York Times theatre critic and a stereotypical homophobic closet case if there ever was one, is absokutely the last person in the world to accuse Hillary Clinton of an anti-gay agenda. What a pretentious loser.
