When I first heard about waterboarding, I was definitely in the camp that this is torture. After reading the memos about how we actually carried it out---how far we took it---I am not so sure any more. If you have a physician present and you want to get information not death, then I don't think so. If you read about what went on in Saddam's prisons and what goes on now in Iran and 3rd world dictatorships, we really don't know the torturing business. About the only real torture that goes on in the US is against women and children trapped in abusive relationships and some of that is pretty bad.
