Lanny Davis and Evan Bayh Throw Down the Gauntlet

Barack Obama: You can try to run from another debate, but you can’t hide. And today, Lanny Davis challenged you to debate in North Carolina (which you’re running from) and Evan Bayh challenged you to debate in Indiana. The people of both states deserve to hear the candidates debate.

Howard Dean: You can’t aid and abet Barack Obama’s all-consuming fear of looking like a fool and a liar in another debate, as he did in last Wednesday’s ABC debate. Lanny Davis went so far as to say you should resign if — in fact — you did abet Obama’s run from the next scheduled debate on April 27th.

Lannie Davis today, on Fox News, lowered the boom on Obama and Dean:

Barack, are you really that afraid of Katie Couric? (We know you’re scared s–tless of Hillary, but surely Katie will be easier than the ABC News team, right?) Are you that much of a wuss, Barack? If you are, let us know now. We can’t afford a president presidential nominee (because that’s as far as he’d get) who’s a wuss.

On today’s Clinton conference call with the media, Sen. Evan Bayh challenged Barack Obama to a debate in the state of Indiana. Bayh told the press that the people of Indiana deserve a chance to hear the two candidates debate in their state, about their issues.

      You are representing the candidate whom you support; your behavior is just one of the reasons why those of us supporting Hillary are doing so…Senator Obama behaves in similar ways – like a child. He wants to be left alone to eat his WAFFLE. Take a good hard look in the mirror and then ask yourself why is it so many millions of people are backing Senator Clinton, and believe that she would be the best candidate to be POTUS.
      There is no need to respond to any one’s comments on this blog with such rudeness and immaturity. If you back Senator Obama fine, that is a good thing. Some of us don’t, so let us have our say.     He says in debates she’s in her element. Was anyone else surprised he admitted that? He’s an okay guy, he’s just not the best candidate of the two. howard doesn’t want Hillary for his own reasons, and it’s no surprise he has his thumb on debates. Barack however took a long time to agree to the last three, well four, but he backed out of the last one. The timing could not be worse, they’re talking issues now, and he can explain why his foreign policy diplomacy will work, he thinks, better than hers, why his exit iraq plan that keeps those private armies guarding American contractors is better than her get everyone out, that’s the only way to real diplomacy, plan. And the more they debate these issues, the more free publicity the dem’s get and the more we’re the news, and McCain/George aren’t. One would think, all things being equal, that that would suit howard’s 50-state strategy, but then you’d also think seating Florida and allowing Michigan a revote would equally suit him. I think when she wins Howard knows he’ll be looking for a new job. Hillary gets rid of hacks. It’s her thang, you know, competent, professional government? That works?

Crist – governor of Florida, had said on Fox earlier that Hillary is the best candidate for Democrats in Florida.     How many of you have been polled about your trust in the two candidates? I haven’t been. I have never had a trust problem with Hillary. The polls are so skewed they are laughable.

    I have a question – on MSNBC it was stated that MI/FL would not count in any way. It was stated by someone new = I believe a black female Repug commentator. Anyone know if this is a truth statement or just more hot air?

      Well that depends on whether or not the party wants to give up Florida and Michigan in the GE, Boo. You see, they are Swing states and have NO problem voting republican if they are ticked off. Add to that the fact that Barry blocked their revotes and they KNOW it. He did it because he knows his butt would be kicked. RECORD numbers voted in the Florida primary. In Michigan, two Obama thugs and co-chairs on the state senate made sure that the bill for the revote NEVER made it to the senate. Then one of them smirked on video and said, “It’s great to be in the lead”. I have the video. If you saw it you would want to reach thru your screen and smack the arrogant SOB. In other words, Obama got away with blocking two states who don’t want him. So far They WILL be heard. And not AFTER the nomination either.

      … Remember, Hillary is now ahead in the popular vote. The popular vote in FL and MI are certified. Just because the DNC does not want to count the delegates won in FL and MI because of petty rules and arbitrary rules, does not mean that the election was invalid. The penalty was supposed to penalize the state Democratic party, not to penalize any specific candidate. All the candidates were listed in the FL primary. All the candidates were listed in the MI primary. BUT….Obama, Edwards, Biden and maybe another candidate decided on THEIR OWN to remove their names from the ballot. (because they were all losing big time). They were not required to remove their names. Hillary, Gravel, Dodd and Kucinich left their names on the ballot. The DNC should count the election as is or demand a revote….and if Obama refuses a revote, then the election results stand. Another option is to pick 2 similar type states that Obama won and not count their popular vote or their delegate votes. (if Obama has won 2 big states like she did) I am sure these states won’t mind. and their voters won’t be upset. Just like MI and FL aren’t upset…..(joking). Democracy requires the votes be counted. Howard Dean and his petty rules has no business screwing Hillary Clinton out of a legitimate win or screwing Fl out of their rightful place and votes. The reason Florida has a problem is because the Republican House and Senate in FL would only allow the Democrats to have paper ballots in the fall instead of faulty machines and they tied it to the primary date change. Knowing the Dems could have a problem with the DNC. Although other states violated the rules (like SC, etc) were not punished. Go figure.

Most viewers are all too aware that CNN is totally in the bag for Senator Obama, but that statement is beyond disgraceful. We are not that far removed from an attack on 9/11 where Americans died in Pennsylvania. I cannot for the life of me understand how one candidate has done so much to create such disunity in this country.

    Fianlly someone calls Dean out, even if Dean didn’t intervene, he had to be called out for all his prior rantings!

    The race is over when every vote is counted that is Democracy, not when Dean decides it is over and not when 2 pivotal GE states are not included and not a moment before!

    Had one of the candidates sewed this up on Super Tuesday, that is one thing, as Fla and Mich wouldn’t of mattered back then just as most states around this time of year feel left out, but they matter now because disenfranchise them now in the process that is ongoing to the final State is a slap in the face to them and retaliation in Nov will be swift and hard!

      It’s very painful. Well, it was very painful, but it’s getting less and less so.

      I have to call ‘em like I see ‘em. And he is making a huge, huge error in judgment on this one.

      He is picking the candidate who stands ZERO chance of winning in November. And he is picking the candidate who will drag down the other Democratic candidates.

      Look at the ads the GOP is starting to run in North Carolina against Democratic nominees — the GOP will do that across the country. It’ll be the association with people who HATE this country (like Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers) that will get to voters, and will bother them about any other Dem. candidate who supports Obama. He’ll take the other Dems down with him.

    In 2006, Lanny Davis wrote a letter to the Wall Street Journal accusing liberals and other bloggers of anti-Semitism. In fact, Al Franken debated him about it. That alone should tell you how screwy Lanny Davis is.

    Just how politically retarded is Lanny Davis?

    This is the sort of idiot we’re inflicted with, the perfect representative of the Beltway Democrat who cautions against politicizing anything remotely political for fear it might give David Broder a spot of indigestion. … Beltway Dems like Davis and the DLC crowd don’t want to politicize the Iraq war, or the Alito hearings, or the Katrina clusterfuck, or the NSA spying scandal; they shy away from every prospective fight and prevent any ongoing debate or controversy from gaining traction. Just as Jack Murtha’s bombshell was gaining momentum, in droops Joe Lieberman to back up the president with a gift-wrapped testimonial. Yes, I know Lanny Davis is not an elected official but he was representing the Democratic side along with Harold Ford against John Fund of WSJ and Arizona congressman Jeff Flake (R). Given how Davis was fawning over Flake (who was making mild reformist noises about the need to clean house)–saying that he wished he could vote for someone so bright and sensible–and how Ford was prudently urging us to stay the course in Iraq and Afghanistan, it was more of a barbershop quartet than a doubles match. Kudlow, of course, couldn’t have been more pleased by the civility and consensus shown by the fab four. Lanny Davis and Harold Ford were his kind of Democrats–reasonable, moderate, mainstream, and completely housebroken. They were good little guests.

    Barack Obama didn’t need help to back out of the NC debate. He turned tail and ran like the coward he is after the beating he got in the PA debate. Hillary drove Obama from the debate. But because you hear Lanny Davis accuse Howard Dean on Fox News, suddenly it’s a reading from the Gospel.

      Howard Dean has done everything he could to make sure Obama becomes the nominee. He allowed Obama to run ads declaring BE A DEMOCRAT FOR A DAY in a myriad of caucuses. I can tell you that our caucuses in Nevada were run by amateurs because Howard was proud that Caucuses would not cost the states anything. He has decided to apportion delegates rather than winner take all. So in PA because Obama won 7 districts in Philly and Hillary won 60 in the rest of the state — Obama got the most delegates. 5 other states ran their primaries and caucuses earlier than they were supposed to — but only Florida and Michigan paid the price. Now Obama gets out of a debate because he doesn’t want to look bad and you can’t believe that it had anything to do with Dean?

    One thing that is really funny is the statements of many Obamabots and the scripted News media!

    Everyone knows Clinton has strong sound grassroot support many who will likely not participate if empty suit wins the nod thanks to media bias, DNP leader bias and the dirty tactics of Obama and his campaign with injecting the race card, baiting and his continual lies!

    Obama support on the other hand has some strong graassroot support, but also has rent a Democrat for a day and revelations coming out of even more dirty Camp Obama games, but even so, the rent a Democrat for a day group will return to their party, those in places like Idaho, Colorado, and the wave of other strong Republican States won’t complain that much, and Obama himself has underpinned every attack the Republicans will use against him by his own actions and not those of anyone else!

    Add to the mix the letter on McCain’s website to Obama, sets the tone of McCain in his wisdom of attacks, he knows visa vie that letter Obama is a two faced liar and McCain will call him out continually riling up even more GOP support, whereas if Hillary does, she is totaed as being negative!

    This is a race for the POTUS, it isn’t a grade 8 class President race. The Race ends in Denver when everyone together is counted and not before, that is what the rulse state, unfortunately Obama doesn’t make the rules, he does break and twist them but he doesn’t set them!

      I’m from Colorado. In order to vote in the Democratic Caucus you have to have been registered as a Democrat at least 60 days prior to the caucus date. My daughter who just turned 18 was not allowed to vote in the caucus because she did not get registered until early January. So, we are not part of the Democrat for a day crowd.

      It really pisses me off that other states allow open primaries and allow primary day registration. I think all states should have the same 60 day policy as Colorado. Independents and Republicans have no business having any voice in the Democratic candidate selection.

      I did hate the caucus format. It snowed 15″ on caucus day (so no one got out) so 13 people chose 11 delegates in my precinct.

        You’re right. I was so impressed with Obama’s strong condemnation of Randi Rhodes’ rant at an event that was promoted on his website. His eloquence and reaching out to the women who support Hillary Clinton in her efforts to break the glass ceiling was so awe inspiring that I missed it.

    I’ve been wondering what the Repub media is up to.
    They trash Obama, but then they trash Hillary. It’s obvious that Obama is going to be toast, but I don’t think the Repub media is going about this the best way. I think they should take Obama out entirely right now. They certainly could do it. They certainly will do it if he is able to criminally
    manipulate the primary season his way. But I still think the Repubs should take him out now. He’s such an easy target. Get him out of the way and then they can concentrate on one candidate. But I am guessing that they want a war of attrition to go on in our party. Probably to keep fundraising tied up between two Dem candidates. But if I were them I wouldn’t mess with things that way. I would clear the field of Obama just to have everything a little more tidy. But if they want to keep draggin this thing out, so be it. However, they should know that by draggin it out they are making Hillary that much stronger and her base that much more committed. We train for McCain. And when we get him, we will make toast out of him. Just like his Repub co-hort Obama.

      I love the scripted media. They are so laughable. If you watch them for a day- just for the hell of it, you can see as they shift and sort their story line. And each consecutive news show repeats the same “agreed upon” line– and the “newscasters” always act like they just came up with the idea, right there on the spot from their incredible font of spontenaity. The minute they get caught out, they are just totally perplexed. “Hey, you’re not supposed to have that response, you’re supposed to say this.” I wish the tabloid media would stop surpressing stories though. You would think Fox would be flipping cartwheels at the Larry Sinclair business. When we get to Puerto Rico, I don’t think they will be able to sit on the story anymore. Then there should be magnificent fireworks, as Obama– if there’s anything left of Obama–goes down in flames.

        You seem to be out of your jurisdiction here Ms. Hussein so calling others out is not really your best argument. We only see you when things look really bad for Obama and then you are throwing the kitchen sink around here with the best of them. Sandy is here on a regular basis. Most of us are here because the places you frequent — Huffpo and DailyKos won’t even put up any pro-Hillary comments … much less question Obama. After months of being called despicable names, people find their way here. If you are looking to “convert” people, you might want to go to places where there isn’t a prominent picture of Senator Clinton in the uppper right hand corner. If you are just here to piss on people and claim that it is raining, it is going to be a bumpty ride for you so just get used to it. Someone who supports Senator Obama better toughen up. Just one woman’s opinion. ;)

    All you need to ask about who is the strongest Democrat is to ask who is the media attacking. They attack Hillary. They attack her because they know she is the candidate who can win. KOS, Huffington Post, TPM, Air America, Dean, Brazile and their ilk are all being used as Republican tools. They may as well be on Rove’s payroll.

    susan: yes. and i say this as an ardent deaniac from 2004. back then, i voted for him in NY even after he withdrew, and was so heartbroken and depressed over his loss (and upset as hell at his opponents’ dirty tricks) that i couldn’t even drag myself to the general–that was how much i loved the guy.

    but now i’m appalled at his actions in this election. ironically, notwithstanding what happened to him in 2004, he now seems to be supporting the candidate launching the dirty attacks, rather than the one fighting them off. he’s seriously compromised himself in my eyes and as of now has a very short window of time within which to redeem himself. let’s see if he does.

    I wish Lanny had responded to the charge that the Clinton campaign was “dragging this on” because that was part of the “scorched earth” charge by Cavuto.

    It’s crucial to continue to point out that voters voting in primaries and having their voices heard is not “dragging this on.” It isn’t “scorched earth.” It is what is known as the “democratic process.”
