TOTUS: I’m so pissed at POTUS

I happened to notice Politico44‘s “Obama gets ahead of prompter,” at Memeorandum.com:

President Obama’s speech at the National Academy of Sciences Monday morning hit a brief snag when Obama got ahead of his script.

Laying his plan for a President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, Obama began to name the members of PCAST listed in his prepared remarks – before realizing he’d already introduced them, earlier in his speech. … [The crowd laughed quietly at Obama's apology.]

I just knew that TOTUS would be upset. Is he ever:

totus1I cannot believe the level of incompetence I have to deal with on a daily basis. If it isn’t the cold hand of my operator, it’s Big Guy not moving his lips fast enough to keep up with my text.

I can say this much: there’s no truth to the rumor that swine flu had anything to do with my scroll this morning.

Would it be possible to blame President Bush for this too?

Now that last line is pretty snarky, TOTUS.

BONUS: TOTUS let slip all the plans for this week:

Big Guy’s got a lot on his plate this week, what with the celebration of his phenomenal First 100 Days, the publication of his book documenting his First 100 Days, his weekly TV show on Wednesday, the release of the commemorative plate, coin, and stamp of his First 100 Days, the speech he’s making in St. Louis recounting his First 100 Days, and then film, fashion, and musical retrospectives of his First 100 Days.

  • Benjamin Franklin Berfle

We really need TOTUS to replace POTUS. At least we know the history of TOTUS and where it was born manufactured.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

You also need to know that TOTUS is crediting POTUS with, for the first time ever, achieving our nation’s desperately sought goal of closing the Mexican/U.S. border.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

Um, maybe it’s just me, but I’d have a hard copy of the speech on the podium for just this kind of problem.

But maybe he can only read really big letters?

  • Benjamin Franklin Berfle

Um, maybe it’s just me, but I’d have a hard copy of the speech on the podium for just this kind of problem.

That One, the Stepford President, can’t turn a page, read, and move his head to mimic actual human movement all at the same time.

  • Peggy Sue

This would be funny. Except,it’s exhausting!

So, Patient Zero has effectively closed the US/Mexican border [now that "is" funny. Sorry, I missed that on your original post, Susan]. And my, my all these plans for Day 100 that Gibbs dismissed as being inconsequential [the man doth protest too much].

Just when I think it cannot get any crazier, it does.

I’m beginning to feel real affection for TOTUS.

  • Benjamin Franklin Berfle

That corpulent Porky Pig Gibbs is just as bad as the gasbags Shrub employed. Can’t they get someone who can actually put a couple of sentences together without creating a fracture in the English language?

  • Scout

The phrase so many I know used to justify their votes for B0: “But he’s so eloquent”–just keeps ringing in my ears. Combined with his speeches, it gives me one big headache.

  • TexasMirth

Um, maybe it’s just me, but I’d have a hard copy of the speech on the podium for just this kind of problem.
But maybe he can only read really big letters?

LOL -A hard copy! What a brilliant idea. I guess that is why Obama hasn’t thought of it…

  • Docelder

Yes, add the loss of our dollars to their economy, the decimation of tourism… maybe the one industry they do have that produces decent jobs that aren’t sweatshop type jobs… add to that the instability already there and what are we looking at possibly? Maybe a peasant uprising? Maybe the socialist party will rise up and take the country? I am not sure where this is going, but these guys never miss out on a good crisis.

  • Benjamin Franklin Berfle

    “But he’s so eloquent”

When people say such crap, I wonder if they even know what the term eloquent means. Ers, ahs, and ums liberally interspersed between real words is not in any definition of eloquent with which I’m familiar.

  • Peggy Sue

Gibbs has been horrible from Day 1. Even though I did not support Bush&Co., I thought Tony Snow was one of the best Press Secretaries I’d seen in action [from either party].

  • Benjamin Franklin Berfle

Snow was better than all the rest combined–McClellan and Fleischer were real duds and Gibbs is a lot like them.

  • oowawa

Yes, in the olden days, it was really kind of endearing: the speaker goes to the podium, reaches inside his jacket, pulls out a piece of crumpled folded binder paper and carefully unfolds it, flattens it out . . .

It was OK with us. We knew he wasn’t trying to bamboozle us by pretending to be a great orator who could spontaneously spout eloquence . . .

  • Benjamin Franklin Berfle

That’s for sure. Or even better, a person would come up and speak without notes and could do it because they were familiar with the subject matter at hand.

That One just reads–and without corresponding comprehension of the words he’s mouthing.

  • oowawa

Yes, Ferd. I think he must have dropped the course on “Demosthenes and Elocution” when he was at Harvard. I mean, trying to speak with all those pebbes in your mouth is so uncool . . .

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

Gibbs is one major reason I will NEVER EVER give up my DVR. The very second he comes on, I grab my remote and fast-forward the whole way through.

Funnily enough, while in the first days of the administration, the news networks carried his entire press conference, these days, he’s lucky if he gets 10 minutes. Which is still 10 minutes too much for moi.

  • tminu

TOTUS was born of US Citizen parts, on US soil, so “he” beats POTUS.

  • termo

I was just watching the daily White House briefing and was shocked at the response by Gibb to the question about the fly-by of Manhattan today by what looked like Air Force One and a few fighter jets.

There was no warning and not even to Mayor Bloomberg who called it insensitive.

It resulted in panic evacuations of some buildings thinking this was another 9/11 attack – that is how low the jet was flying,

Gibbs response was that he had no knowledge of it even though it had approval with the FAA.

It almost seems inevitable that the incompetence of Obama is going to result in a major attack here again.

  • Objective Analysis

Reminds you of the Wizard of OZ…

    Who is behind that curtain?

Is it Soros…Biden….Osama….hell maybe Ted Kennedy….

    LOL!

I could not stop laughing. HILLARIOUS….

Wake up Ameria. Time to pull the Curtains…

  • politicalidentitycrisis

TOTUS seems to have more brains also.

  • Portia Elizabeth Crockett

Susan — thanks for posting this latest misspeak by the POtuS. I just watched the video and noticed that he’s not even embarrassed to be using a teleprompter for yet another thrilling bit of eloquence.

And speaking as someone in science, let me also say this: the NAS may have chuckled quietly in front of him, but you can bet they take the story of his ineptitude back to their colleagues for many more rounds of guffaws.

  • ConfusedAmerican

You know this might be kind of funny if it was the first time Obama has done this with the teleprompter. These types of mistakes just show you how much Obama relies on it, and seemily CANNOT function without it.
I have seen many people give eloquent speeches with no teleprompters, or broken teleprompters. Some have had a few notes with them while others just winged it. Yet Obama seems to be totally clueless to what he is doing when the teleprompter goes haywire.

  • Rob G in Chicago

The “He’s so eloquent” remark is likely an attempt to say the same thing as Joe Biden’s “articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” remark, without looking quite so foolish.

  • Docelder

It would be interesting to knows who is feeding the teleprompter. Who is making him appear to speak so eloquently? Whose will is being done? Because it looks like he will read just about anything put in front of him.

  • Judy L. NC

I’m with you, Docelder. Who is feeding that beast?

  • Tess

Who was it in earlier TV who did the “Boom-a-lacka” cheer that went on and on? Bob Newhart?
Wouldn’t it be fun to put whosever gig/paper that was, on TOTUS?

  • oowawa

    Who is feeding that beast?

A prime suspect: that brilliant young man last seen groping the cardboard cutout of Hillary Clinton: Jon Favreau.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Favreau_(speechwriter)

He was born way back in 1981, so he has had a long life in which to acquire wisdom and experience

  • Docelder

The greatest, most educated, gifted, eloquent President of all time… has a man writing his speeches who said this? From Wikipedia:

Favreau credits Dungeons & Dragons with giving him “…a really strong background in imagination, storytelling, understanding how to create tone and a sense of balance.

At any rate, it’s all just fantasy.

  • http://AmericasFavoriteTerrorist.com Gerard McNedich

    that is hilarious…

anyway, an update as to what is happening over here in London…

    a perfect example of why the NY TImes has lost all credibility { as if you needed another reason }

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1173883/You-gotta-kidding-New-York-Times-tells-U-S-tourists-MUST-Wild-West-Deptford.html

  • tminu

Totus is smarter, and Natural Born, arguably more stable, unlike constitutionally ineligible ROTUS (resident of the US) or UIC (usurper in chief) BHO.

  • oowawa

Doc, there are 2 different people with the name “Jon Favreau” on Wikipedia. The first was born in 1966 (a real senior citizen), and is an actor and screenwriter. This is the one who admits to using Dungeons & Dragons. The youngster, born in 1981, O’s head speechwriter, has a different page. The link I gave above jumps to the first person, because the (speechwriter) does not reproduce on NQ as part of the hyperlink. The two of them are easily confused!

  • Docelder

Thanks for clearing that one up. I thought the first guy looked too old… but then again I thought… high miles maybe? I got this from a Guardian article online.

Jon Favreau, age 27, is not the youngest chief speechwriter in the White House. He shares that honour with James Fallows, who served as Jimmy Carter’s speechwriter at the same age.

There is something to be said for experience.

  • TeakWoodKite

Bigger than what Senator Byrd needs? That is the question.

  • Eleven

I see people working in lower Manhattan and Jersey City are royally pissed today. Whose idea is this? Why is presidential airlift group involved, and how exactly is the communication breakdown? You know, I worked in a cube in one of the Jersey City buildings, I didn’t actually see the jumbo jet flying so low, but I can just imagine the horror of those people who did.

  • Lyn

I wish someone would put “I’m sorry for health reasons I resign immeadiately” on TOTUS. It would be best if it was on one of his weekly primetime take all the airwaves specials.

  • Benjamin Franklin Berfle

LMAO. And it would work, too. That One is as ill-prepared a politician as I’ve ever encountered. He’d read the crap, look like a deer in a runaway truck’s headlights for a few seconds, and then um, er, and, ah at a staccato pace that would make his minions proud.

    That is a stellar idea.

  • PainkillerJayne

lmao I love it! The Stepford president!

  • I’m a Linda too

But then he’ll REALLY look like he’s just reading someone elses words.

He thinks his voice carries confidence so when he reads those else written words while looking up, he’s ok.

Actually, I want to rename weary Barry. Although TOTUS is correct, he really is just a RIC.

Reader In Chief. See, don’t folks realize that’s what they got? Everyoe kept joking that Bush couldn’t read. His books were upside down and he didn’t read the newspaper. They all said they wanted a president who could read.

    And that’s ALL they got.

    Reader in Chief, RIC.

  • Eleven

My friend gave me this riddle the other day – “Obama giving speech” for an oscar-winning movie.

  • I’m a Linda too

this comment should have been under Susan’s about having a copy on the podium.

  • http://www.sonicninjakitty.wordpress.com Sonic Ninja Kitty

    OMG–WE ALL GOT RIC-ROLLED!!

  • hinterlands

lmao…….fox news just said they arent carrying the totus/potus speech on wed. night……ha ha ha, sure is a relief that at least one news channel doesnt buy his crap, the rest still engage in the slobbering love affair.

  • http://noquarter foxyladi14

    prettier too…

  • http://noquarter foxyladi14

    i[ll be watching fox.

  • jbjd

He looked so angry, as if he hated everyone present for witnessing he is nothing more than a reader of someone else’s words.

  • Benjamin Franklin Berfle

There’s a meltdown a-coming. That One is unable to accept anything he sees as criticism and it’s all criticism to him unless his derriere is being smooched.

  • Docelder

Well, he does have a gift. A gift which he is graciously sharing with us little people who aren’t worthy of that light which emanates from his very presence. I hope his planet comes for him soon. ;)

  • Benjamin Franklin Berfle

I hope his planet comes for him soon.

For sure or the next passing comet. Where is Hale-Bopp when you most need it?

  • CG

Too funny Susan, love it. You have to wonder about competence when you see Obama struggle in speech even with TOTUS. Look at the confidence and command of Hillary at every turn, speaking with clarity and grace each time, the competent one who should be President.

  • Peggy Sue

    Dolceder quoted:

“He shares that honour with James Fallows, who served as Jimmy Carter’s speechwriter at the same age.”

    and then said,

“There is something to be said for experience.”

Also something to be said for “deja vu all over again” x 10.

    God help us all!

  • Eleven

James Fallows just cannot stop praising PBO’s speeches. And I actually corresponded with him regarding this TOTUS issue. He was quite condescending in the beginning, saying anybody criticizing PBO’s use of TOTUS is crazy. Now I have to refrain myself from sending him clips of PBO’s slipup with or without the TOTUS.

  • TexasMirth

I noticed B.O. didn’t laugh with the audience as he fumbled his speech. Guess he only laughs when it is at others’ expense, i.e. Jessica Simpson, Nancy Reagan, Special Olympic participants…who have I forgotten?

  • jangles

Where is Joe Biden these days?

  • Docelder

Maybe the lipstick wearing pig. He thought that was pretty funny. He has a “gift”.

  • shadow

    Don’t forget Joe the Plumber.

  • Chicago Joe

He was here in Chicago today, greeting our state comptroller Dan Hayes—that’s Hynes, Joe— and remarking upon the presence of all 32 alderman (there are 50). So Oh That Joe was at it again.

  • MissMe

Seriously? This is just middle-school brand snarkiness. I stumbled, unfortunately, in here and am left with this feeling that our country is mean, immature and acerbic.

Maybe we should all actually consider doing something besides contemplating our AM Starbucks orders, or hanging out on message boards making up things that we can use as a juvenile tool to make fun of the President. This is an iconic example of the deep, cultural crisis our country is in. Consider getting off the message boards and going and doing something out in the real world.

  • J. J. (The PUMA)

Sarah Palin had her teleprompter malfunction during her acceptance speech at the Republican Convention, and SHE did not miss a beat.

By the way, am I the only one who thinks there is more to the story of Air Force One buzzing downtown New York? A low level guy took the fall for this, but someone much higher up must have authorized it. Perhaps someone as high up at the TOTUS.

  • TexasMirth

By the way, am I the only one who thinks there is more to the story of Air Force One buzzing downtown New York?

No, you are not the only one.

  • TJ

I keep wondering who was on that little sight seeing adventure. Photo op and training exercise my ass! Someone wanted to get up close and personal with Miss Liberty IMO.
