I turned 18 in 1972. I was among the first group of 18 year-olds allowed to vote. I considered myself very liberal, very anti-establishment, and had every intention of voting for McGovern. Then, on election day, I walked into the voting booth, felt the immense responsibility of the act of voting, and decided at the last minute that my parents were older and wiser and had more experience, and voted for their candidate. It was the only time I voted Republican in my life. But it was the time that made a difference.

I think now about the youth movement that carried McGovern to the Democratic nomination, and how it failed to deliver him to the White House, and in fact resulted in the most humiliating defeat of any presidential candidate ever. And I hope that this is not the year that history will repeat itself.

I do not know how that reply addresses any of the my arguments. No matter, this is a place to express yourself.

However I do think you are viewing the yuppies that flock to Obama in an altogether too warlike vein. I see young ladies that only want to have Obama's baby accompanied by young men who walk the walk just to get laid.

Nonwithstanding my penetrating insights into their libidos, this group would not know a brick of C-4 from a wedge of Brie. Ask for Semtex and you would get a prophylactic. BRASS to them is something that always has to be polished on the yacht.

You may stop digging the bunker now.

I totally agree with you! Tom Hayden and Todd Gitlin were both former SDS members, and I certainly do not think of them as terrorists. In contrast, Bill Ayers is the very face of domestic terrorism--particularly when he laments that they did not blow up more things!

And although the Black Panthers certainly have their violent legacy, I would not group them with the Weatherpeople Underground either as they did not start out as a group hellbent on violence, as was the case with the Weatherpeople Underground.

I still recall my parents' former neighbors visiting town back in the 80's--the man was a retired FBI agent who had apparently spent a good bit of his career tracking members of the Weatherpeople Underground. According to him, they were the worst kind of scurge on American society. He spent enough time bitching about the Weatherpeople Underground that it convinced me that these were very bad people. I pointed out to the man that the Weatherpeople had once plotted to mix up DMSO with LSD and spread it all over the Capitol and then watch all of Congress tripping their asses off--a plot with a little humor attached. According to this former G-man, that was one of the more innocuous things that the Weatherpeople Underground had dreamed up--that most of their other activities involved a good deal of death and destruction.

If I lived in a competitive state, I would vote for McCain over Obama. As an American, I’d have to.

More wars, fewer jobs? Or are you just looking for a rerun of Katrina? This blogger will be voting Democratic in November, even if the superdelegates saddle us with a Gravel/Kucinich ticket.

Wow, that video is really unfair, to the point of being bizarre. I was in fifth grade in 1963, as a teenager I stood on the roof top of an office building in Arlington and was Washington, DC burn in 1968, so I remember those times. I also knew lefties, not active ones, but still lefties, who actually believed that the government would fall and we would have a real revolution.

The Obama campaign is not like that. It is super obnoxious, but it is not like that. To compare the rhetoric of Mr. Hopey Unity Pony to the Weather Underground is ludicrous.

While I appreciate why Rev. Wright is politically radioactive, I don't think it is fair to compare him to Farrakan.

Frankly if I were Clinton I would be hoping that video did not make the rounds, because I really don't think it works for her at all. It just looks like the Clinton people are losing it.

Jesse Jackson Sr. was the candidate that followed the legacy of MLK. He was the true first African American candidate. Obama's campaign has been really disrespectful to Jesse Sr.

When Jesse ran in 1988 he brought together all the disenfrancised people instead of playing off one group aganist all the others like Obama has. Jesse Sr. won 11 contests and 1,219 delegates. He was even the front runner after winning Michigan. And he did this without trashing the other candidates like Obama has from day 1. Jesse Sr also faced outright opposition from the DNC and the corporate owned media constantly demonized him, instead of the fawning propaganda machine they've been with Obama. There was no world wide web, no blogosphere no nationwide alternative radio back then. If Jesse Sr. had run again and it was him vs Hillary I'd be completely happy with whoever won.

Jesse Sr. did quietly endorse Obama early on, but he's publically decried the sleazy tactics of the Obama campaign, including tactics of his oldest son, Jesse Jr. Interestingly, Jacqueline Jackson (Jesse Sr.'s wife) and youngest son Yusef Jackson have endorsed Hillary. Jacqueline even did a commerical for Hillary.

Larry, this is an excellent diary. I have written several times that Obama turned me completely against him when he used the lie of race-victimism against Hillary and Bill Clinton in order to get votes. That is so threatening to me that I would never vote for Obama and, in fact, will work for whoever runs against him if he were to be able to steal the nomination from Hillary.

I grew up in Texas and I have family members who were (some still are) racists and I have stood against them and spoken up against racism all my life. Now I will not support anybody, no matter what color their skin, who uses racist tactics.

Ironically, we learned after I was in my fifties that my great grandfather was black passing as white and the fear of being found out was the source of my grandmother's racism. We still had people of color hanged and murdered in Texas in the fifties when my great grandfather died so her fears were well-placed. Now fifty years later, we have an AA person fanning the flames of hatred in order to pick up 90% of the black vote. Shame on him and shame on those who are too stupid to recognize that for what it is. Being willing to use the pain of others (the sorry SOB never suffered from being black himself) opportunistically.

So I guess Bill Clinton pardoning some Weathermen makes Clinton some sort of terrorist, huh.

How is all of the sudden Obama and Ayers LONGTIME BIG BUDDIES. I love the "influence" of his preacher teaching him to hate stuff. I thought at the start of this whole deal that Obama was accused of being an atheist and not going to church. Y'all need to make up your minds.
I sure can smell what you and the pubs are cookin'.It's hard for me to tell what Obama is cookin' because he is having to smack down BS like these threads everyday.

If Hillary is surrounded by better advisor's how come she is behind and can't catch up.
