“Lie to Me” Beats “Lying to You”

Via Media Bistro:

FOX, the only one of the Big Four networks that did not carry Pres. Obama’s news conference last night, finished first in the 8pmET hour with a new episode of “Lie to Me.” The drama averaged 7.9 million Total Viewers, according to Nielsen overnights.

NBC’s coverage of the Obama newser came in second with 6.7 million Total Viewers.

Overall, Obama’s news conference was seen by nearly 19 million viewers across NBC, ABC, CBS according to the early numbers.

I’m with the “Lie to Me” audience. Well, we had “alternative programming” here last night in the form of a live chat, with a number of great videos found by Reverend Amy, our readers, and a few by me.

But, I also like the new “Lie to Me” series. For one thing, it stars the excellent British actor Tim Roth. What is it with these Brits who come here and become great TV stars? Like “Criminal Minds” and “The Mentalist,” it moves beyond being a mere procedural by getting “into the heads” of the witnesses and suspects. Try it some Wednesday night.

  • Benjamin

Only 19 million? I think the press conference before that drew something like 49 million. Could the kool-aid be wearing off?

  • mountainaires

Obama’s viewership was down-to 29%. He interrupts regular programming so much, people are sick of seeing his face and hearing his voice. Talk about over-exposure…

  • http://rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Wouldn’t it be ironic if his desire for the constant fawning and accolades is what brings him down??

Couldn’t happen to a more deserving guy,if you ask me.

  • Mandelay

LOL! Another great headline, Susan! You beat my newspaper any day of the week.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

I’m going to frame that! I’m title-challenged usually!

  • tango

I like “Lie to Me”. I watched the one show when it had tells of agression and/or contempt and it showed President Obamas middle finger “scratch” to Hillary Clinton during the campaign as an example. So obviously the show, unlike the press, isn’t afraid to call out the gesture for what it was.

  • jbjd

I saw that, too. I howled! (You can see this on Hulu.com; do you know which episode this is?)

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

It’s Episode 12. Will you come back and give us the link so we can watch?

I have it on my DVR, and will watch it this weekend.

I only started watching it a couple episodes ago; forgot it was on! Now my DVR tapes it for me. It’s great escape TV. And it’s fascinating how they use sophisticated means to detect whether or not people are telling the truth.

What’s also fascinating is that, if one has lived on the planet for a while, one can usually detect when “That person is lying to me,” but it’s hard to express the reasons why. I.e., there are physical “tells” that we pick up as we get older, but we don’t have those “tells” analyzed and catalogued like the “Lie to Me” experts do. So it’s a teaching show too in what to look for in how people’s faces, unconsciously, give them away.

How about MEchelle`s lies about restraint.

First Lady Michelle Obama steps out in Lanvin sneakers and they’re only $540!

While volunteering Wednesday at a D.C. food bank, the First Lady sported her usual J.Crew cardigan, a pair of utilitarian capri pants and, on her feet, a sneaky splurge: trainers that go for $540.

For me it is always “nothing new.” The same “good news” from his mouth, and I see nothing in my surroundings or in other news that confirms that.

I would listen if he talked about how stupid it was to give Chrysler our money only to have it go bankrupt anyway, what we have learned from that, and so on. I don’t personally know a single person who has benefitted from anything from the stmulus package. I want numbers and data–nor fancy words.

  • jbjd

It cannot be episode 12 because there are only 11 episodes so far! But here is the link to all shows.

America’s Next Top Model beat Obummer’s press conference. Don’t see much of a difference between the two. Lies, big egos, immaturity and a lot of posing.

  • politicalidentitycrisis

Did they really? That was awesome!

  • I’m a Linda too

Obama has lost 42 percent of his own viewers since just his first televised press conference.

Talk about a drop in support.

  • jbjd

I wonder what the stats would be for a press conference officiated over by HRC…For her, I would run upstairs and turn on the landlady’s televisions, too.

  • pm317

I agree. That may actually happen as he (frantically) tries to find new (untested) ways of engaging/entertaining his fans in his overreaction to their flagging attention.

  • skinny malinky

Lie to Me did not by any stretch of the imagination “beat” the press conference. The story you reference says just on the networks, the press conference had over two times as many viewers as Lie to Me did. And they’re not taking into account those who watched it on news networks or Spanish-language TV.

Next time, try not to be so blatantly deceitful.

  • FLDemFem

he (frantically) tries to find new (untested) ways of engaging/entertaining his fans

Perhaps staying in Washington, saving massive amounts of fuel, and doing some work would help. Does anyone know if he has spent an entire week in Washington yet? It seems he is always flying off somewhere instead of staying and doing his job in the very expensive office he occupies. He should also have to start paying for that air time. That would put a quick stop to his pressers. The networks are already complaining big time about the lost revenues when he decides to pre-empt one of their prime hours to chat at people.
Wouldn’t it be funny if Obummer gave a presser and nobody came? I would pay to see that!!

  • Ani

OMG!! How fabulous someone was not adraid to tell the truth. The WH office of spin can put their ‘spin’ on that one right up there with the two handed bend over handshake to the King who must be three feet shorter than our Pres.

Gee, Mr. Gibbs — who cares — just tell the truth for a change — you would be able to complete a sentence without hemming and hawing and umphing and er-ing. Who knows he might find it refreshing.

  • Ani

Uh — we are not talking cumulative audience, dear. But that program beat each other single network’s numbers re viewing audience. Therefore, it came in first. Nice try.

  • Obama: Dubya II Electric Boogaloo

LOL Obots complaining about “blatant deceitfulness”, gotta love it.

But no surprise here. I knew this would be the official kool aid talking point.

Look on the bright side bot…Obama as a 100% approval ratings on the latest Dailykooks/Bullshit 2000 poll on their site this morning!

  • Scout

    Let’s hope!

  • Eleven

And Ani, don’t you wish Zero-bots can exercise the same vigilance and critical thinking ability when it comes to their own leader?

  • Objective Analysis

TOTUS gets more viewership than BHO will ever get.

    Reminds me of Peanuts (teacher)

Blah Blah Blah blah Blah Blah

Did anybody understand what the teacher was saying?

    LOL!

  • tango

Oh and don’t forget Gibbs lastest: saying Joe Biden meant to say something else in regards to taking public transportation. Gee, Joe Biden has NO off valve – he says what he means or thinks all the time and that’s what gets him in trouble. Give up Gibbs, you’re a pathetic liar. I’m waiting for the “Lie to Me” episode that features him and his lying tells.

  • DAB

Agreed! And the networks are so compliant. Dick Morris said that Clinton was only allowed 2 network prime-time news conferences in his first four years. Times sure have changed.

  • DAB

Guess even an impending Pandemic isn’t enough to pique people’s interest in an overexposed President.
Obama obviously thinks we can’t get enough of his omnipresent self — he should probably think again.

  • skinny malinky

If you’re not talking about cumulative audience, then what’s the point? Then you’re just taking something out of context in some pathetic attempt to make Obama look bad. Not that I’m surprised, but this is such obvious BS I can’t help but call it out.

Saying “Lie to Me” beat Obama’s press conference is like saying you’re wealthier than me because you have $100 in your pocket and I have $250 spread out over 3 bank accounts. No thinking person would think you have more money, just like no thinking person would think “Lie to Me” beat the PC.

  • Karma

    It is a good show.

If I remember correctly, the second epidsode uses a picture of Michelle in her Inauguration dress as an example of a self soothing technique.

I like how they use well known people or pictures to convey the emotional reveal.

  • The Real HC

I thought it was 125% approval rating. I guess he really IS slipping ;)

  • Karma

How is Susan being ‘blatantly deceitful’ when the information you are complaining about is in the post?

“Overall, Obama’s news conference was seen by nearly 19 million viewers across NBC, ABC, CBS according to the early numbers.”

    Andrew C. McCarthy
    May 1, 2009

By email (to the Counterterrorism Division) and by regular mail:

The Honorable Eric H. Holder, Jr.
Attorney General of the United States
    United States Department of Justice
    950 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
    Washington, D.C. 20530-0001

    Dear Attorney General Holder:

This letter is respectfully submitted to inform you that I must decline the invitation to participate in the May 4 roundtable meeting the President’s Task Force on Detention Policy is convening with current and former prosecutors involved in international terrorism cases. An invitation was extended to me by trial lawyers from the Counterterrorism Section, who are members of the Task Force, which you are leading.

The invitation email (of April 14) indicates that the meeting is part of an ongoing effort to identify lawful policies on the detention and disposition of alien enemy combatants—or what the Department now calls “individuals captured or apprehended in connection with armed conflicts and counterterrorism operations.” I admire the lawyers of the Counterterrorism Division, and I do not question their good faith. Nevertheless, it is quite clear—most recently, from your provocative remarks on Wednesday in Germany—that the Obama administration has already settled on a policy of releasing trained jihadists (including releasing some of them into the United States). Whatever the good intentions of the organizers, the meeting will obviously be used by the administration to claim that its policy was arrived at in consultation with current and former government officials experienced in terrorism cases and national security issues. I deeply disagree with this policy, which I believe is a violation of federal law and a betrayal of the president’s first obligation to protect the American people. Under the circumstances, I think the better course is to register my dissent, rather than be used as a prop.

“Obama’s Liberal Arrogance Will Be His Undoing: The hubris and overreaching of the left sets the stage for the political correction sure to come” is a LATimes post I thought I’d posted yesterday.

Because the headline says that “Lie to Me” beats “Lying to You.” “Lying to You” clearly refers to the press conference. So she’s saying that the TV show “Lie to Me” beat “Lying to You.” Does that make sense to you?

    Politically correct taglines… who knew?

  • Karma

It is a word play. Nothing confusing there. Many of the headlines use the technique…lol

However, the stats for each station prove the point….word play or not.

Each station is rated and paid based on THEIR stats. Not on the cumulative amounts of how many viewed the event across all the stations.

Since you want to run the stats across the stations. We can discuss how Obama has LOST some 28 million viewers, but I am sure that would be flawed somehow too. ;)

Speaking of “Lie To Me”, this photoshop digital photography expert proves that ALL of Obama’s historic photographs are 100% fraudulent.

Obama was stuck into them all! Obama as we know him, is a complete and total fabrication.

I always thought the head sizes and shadows were weird!

Skinny, No one has to try to make PO LOOK BAD; he does that all by himself and then he blames everyone else even his teleprompter.

What is interesting about the “Lie To Me” show is that it is based on scientific research that determines and identifies the characteristics of a LIAR. PO has them ALL.

PO is a study in lying and self righteous arrogance, as is Axelrod, PO’s Rhambo Man and Press Secretary Gibbs to name a few.

Open your eyes Skinny, you just might see THE TRUTH; but if not you might want to go elsewhere to sell PO’s BS.

  • cathnealon

Who will be tuning in to this guy in 6 months? Maybe Chris Mathews, Bill Mahr, Soros, Olberman and Garafalo.

  • Ani

Have you ever reviewed how Neilsen ratings are done? Go ver to their site and they can teach you a few things about why shows come in first.

Also significant is that the President’s CUMULATIVE audience dropped by 20 pts from the last presser he had. Can you say overexposure?

  • FLDemFem

The problem with that article is that it claims that Obummer is not related to the Dunhams. That is an obvious lie. Look at his grandfather. Then take a pic of his grandfather and darken the skin to Obummer’s shade. Then you will see that Obummer looks exactly like his white grandfather, just darker. The face and it’s proportions will be identical to Obummer’s. And if the people who allegedly put together the fraudulent photos can do that with Photoshop, the people doing the analysis can put in the differences with Photoshop. Just sayin’.
