Flu Scare – The ADHD Administration never wastes a good crisis

Looks like the flu scare is fizzling out. They will find a new distraction to replace it I am sure. How about what Barack and Michelle do on their date night? (By the way, things seem to be going to hell in a hand basket in Iraq now that the US has ended payments to the Sunnis to stop fighting.)

This country’s health literacy is low, probably lower than financial literacy (and we all know where that got us.) It is clear to me the MSM is completely illiterate. So is Joe Biden. Add Gibbsie, SeeBee, and Bruno to the list. Get them off my TV.
(Barky gets a pass only because TOTUS feeds him accurate info from the CDC) If they can’t even provide accurate information on the difference between an epidemic and a pandemic or how flu viruses spread, they have no business trying to educate anyone else.

Hampster, I share your cynicism. In fact, I even share the mild paranoia about the whole flu crisis–how conveniently timed. It’s as if we’re living inside a huge shell game and the guys running it have fast, fast hands.

While we’ve been encouraged to go into a mini-meltdown over the “pandemic,” Joey B.’s gaffe, and the cruel, reckless flight over NYC, the torture debate took a backseat [an uncomfortable place for Obama to be since we know that a number of Dems are implicated] and on Thursday [Black Thursday according to some], the Senate defeated a bankruptcy bill [that does not favor the average Joe] and the House passed a bill that guarantees banks will continue their abuse of the public and our dwindling funds for a full year [might as well clean out the last nickles in the nation's coffers].

In my mind, it’s all sleight of hand. And we’re being played for suckers. Because sadly, we are.

Well, according to Obummer we are well-prepared for the flu epidemic. We have 50 million doses of anti-viral meds. And a couple of billion to spend on more doses. Someone should tell him we have 340 million people in this country. Oh, and this story absolves some Canadian pigs from causing swine flu. Apparently, it was given to them by a farmer who had been to Mexico. Heh.

Since the Obama administration is already taking credit for “saving” 150,000 jobs with the stimulus package, even though there are no facts to support them, is there any doubt that they will now claim to have saved millions of lives once this flu crisis amounts to nothing?

Obama’s date night makes all the major newspapers and TV so called news stations, and it will probably make all the magazines. I could care less, but it sure makes you understand why the MSM is losing readers and listeners.

Camera, spotlight, pandemic!

The media was inflating pandemic paranoia for 3 or 4 days before the White House offered more than brief comments. What Obama has said about it has been measured, logical, and reassuring. The White House didn’t create this situation.

What we’ve got here is the media exploiting a story that has grabbed the public’s attention. They don’t make and inflate “news” for Barack Obama’s benefit. They do it for ratings, market shares, and profit margins. Providing us with useful information–assuming that even happens–happens incidentally. The actual importance of the topic is entirely secondary to the effectiveness with which it captures imagination of the masses.

What significant events were entirely eclipsed as the media obsessively fixated on O.J. Simpson, Laci Peterson, Natalee Holloway, etc?

How ironic that the lyric is from a show called Chicago, and how prophetic that it came out way back in 2002!

Weird, I was wondering the same thing myself this Sunday morning.

I wouldn’t get too complacent. Canada has announced the virus has been found in pig herds in Alberta. Great work there Departments of Agriculture around the world. You were so worried about a name, trade, falling pork prices, slaughtering and banning pork for no reason- you neglected to protect the pigs!

Why is this important to us? Not because you can get the flu from pork chops, bacon, or ham. You can’t. It’s important because pigs got the sh!tty end of the genetic stick which it comes to Influenza A. Pigs can get human and birds strains much easier than vice versa. The ability for a reassortment of the virus has just increased. Notice I didn’t say likelihood or probability. I just said ability. None of us can predict the future.

The US Department of Agriculture needs to change it’s name. It doesn’t give a flying fig leaf about animal health or the safety of our food supply. Just call it what it is….one giant lobby for agri-business.

I heard there was a protester with a bullhorn saying “This is so great that you are here… Create fear and terror.”

Of course, there wasn’t much coverage of that part of their date

You think the four day media lead on this means the WH is clean? It doesn’t make it a given. Not when there are members of the MSM who pledged to help Obama have a successful Presidency.

So, maybe or maybe not. I’m not willing to go out on a limb for them.

(Actually, they lost me when they elevated it to a colored alert. I don’t believe anything with colored alerts anymore.)

I agree that the 4 day media lead proves nothing. It’s only suggestive that the White House isn’t behind the media flap. Note that FOX has covered the “pandemic” story from day one with equal enthusiasm, and they’re certainly not in Obama’s pocket. This leads me to believe it’s all about compelling stories and market shares, right across the commercial news outlet board.

They totally lost me too with the color-coded terror threat alert. Green-Blue-Yellow-Orange-Red. We’re still using the system. The threat-level color of the day for airline travel is Orange, with regard to all foreign and domestic air travel. For those of us who prefer words, that means the risk of air terrorism is HIGH. I don’t know why there are 5 colors. Green and Blue will likely never occur again. Yellow, or ELEVATED, is pretty much the baseline.

A pig herd in central Alberta has been infected with the swine flu virus in what could potentially be the first human-to-animal virus transmission case, provincial officials confirmed yesterday afternoon.

More Albertans have also been affected by the bug, with Edmonton seeing its first four cases of the swine flu.

A man, young girl, and two women all have minor forms of the flu and are said to be recovering, and all are believed to be isolated cases, said the province’s top doctor, Andre Corriveau.

The 2,200 animals were exposed to the virus by a farm worker exhibiting flu-like symptoms after returning from Mexico.

The office of the chief provincial veterinarian was notified Tuesday that some of the farm’s pigs showed flu-like symptoms after the worker, who came home on April 12, exposed the pigs to the virus when he returned to work two days later.

The farm was immediately placed under quarantine and samples were taken and sent to the National Centre for Foreign Diseases in Winnipeg to be analyzed. A bulletin was also sent out to the province’s pork industry workers.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is now leading the investigation with the help of Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development.

The pigs, the farm worker, and the family living on and running the farm have since recovered or are recovering, said agriculture Minister George Groeneveld. There have been no other reports of swine flu viruses in pigs and the flu has been confined to this particular operation, he added.

Groeneveld emphasized that there is no evidence that the flu virus can be contracted by eating pork or pork products, adding: “Pork is safe to eat. There is no risk to our food supply.”

However, he said these findings could have an impact on Alberta’s pork producers and the export market.

“Border closures are unwarranted but there have been some closures because we have the (swine flu) in Canada,” Groeneveld said. “We’ll see what transpires. I think we’ll have to talk to our American counterparts and they have no problems, at this point, with the export of our pork.”

EVERYDAY STRAIN

Dr. Gerald Hauer, chief provincial veterinarian, said that swine flu is known to occur in pigs in the province, particularly a common everyday strain of the swine flu virus.

But this is the first time they were made aware of a swine flu strain that could be transferred from humans to animals.

Biosecurity measures such as limiting visitors to pig farm operations and ensuring workers shower before and after entering pig farms, are in place to prevent other similar incidents, Hauer said.

He noted that the flu virus is a “notifiable” disease, meaning within 24 hours of noticing or suspecting signs of the swine flu, incidents must be reported to the chief veterinarian’s office.

Corriveau, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, said from a human perspective, a possible human-to-animal transmission of the virus gives no reason to panic. He added that people should continue to take precautionary measures to prevent spreading disease.

TWO NEW CASES

Alberta Health and Wellness also confirmed that elsewhere in Alberta, two new cases have been recorded in northern Alberta and one in Calgary, bringing the provincial total to 15.

None of the patients have required hospitalization.

Now I don’t think they started this flu epidemic, nor do they control the WHO, but they do control the media that is trying so hard to over play this seemingly mild flu.

This is part and parcel of politics as usual, you know… the type that was supposed to go away with the coronation of That One. These bozos in office use a trumped up crisis for two primary reasons:

1) They get to act as if they’re actually doing something to justify their phony baloney jobs and

2) They can do a lot of nefarious things such as rifle our pockets yet again while our attention is diverted elsewhere.

But remember when the major networks employed experts in these disciplines? That way, if someone in Congress or the White House spewed garbage ‘science’ at us, someone at the networks could deconstruct the information for us. Of course, back in the day, we assumed if the Congressional prescription was ‘off,’ this was the exception; certainly, such misdirection was unintentional. And we believed the ‘expert’ from the MSM.

Now, in an effort to keep my family safe AND fiscally solvent, I have been forced to become the expert in all things. (I am still learning macroeconomics and fiscal policy.)
