Hillary on Afghanistan & Pakistan [Video Updates]

Hillary held meetings today, along with a press conference. In “U.S. urges cooperation against militants,” the Los Angeles Times reports: “As a summit with Pakistan and Afghanistan opens, Hillary Clinton expresses regret over civilian casualties from a military strike in Afghanistan, and promises an investigation. …”

UPDATE #1: Here’s CNN’s coverage of the press conference:

NEXT UP: A video and text from the State.gov Web site, followed by fascinating reports on Pakistan’s nuclear weapons and a direct interview with a top Taliban leader:

Susan: did you get the e-mail that Hillary’s job approval rating is WAY higher than Obie’s? Made me feel good.

YESSSSSSS! And one of us wrote about it last week — thinking — damn, I can’t remember who wrote it. Help me, writers.

ALSO: I couldn’t find a video, yet, of Hillary’s press conference. When I find it, I’ll add it as an update.

Wow! What a terrific appearance at the Trilateral. I always feel better when I see HRC in action. She truly is a leader. And I was so glad to hear her express regrets for civilian casualties and speak to the importance of raising the oppoirtunities for woman and girls in this part of the world.

    All hands on deck, indeed!

  • Carlyinnj

    [Hillary]….You’re simply the best
    better than all the rest
    better than any one
    any-one i’ve ever met….

Tina Turner’s words say it all….there is no one like Hillary and the Country knows it!!!

Better ratings then PBO, no kidding. I’m just grateful that she took SOS even if she knew she would have to put up with PBO to accomplish what needs to be done. That’s one courageous and incredible woman.

    Hillary in 2012

Way to go Hillary!! She projects such total confidence and ease. She is very much in her element!!

  • Tom Cat “wodiej” Jefferson Esq

well at least there is one competent person in the WH

      AMEN…………

[Secy of State, Hillary Clinton]…”I will also reinforce as I have on many occasions that– this is not just me speaking, but this is the American government speaking– that we do not believe either Afghanistan or Pakistan can achieve lasting progress without the full participation of all of your citizens including women and girls. The rights of women must be respected and protected. This is a time for, as we say, “All hands on deck.” The entire population, the talents of everyone must be engaged.”…

    Fantastically well said.

Yet here the POS Karzai is in our own country under our government’s invitation and protection, while his sickening laws enslaving Shia women have not been repealed but are merely under review. Til when? Sometime in the next century perhaps? Likewise the POS Zardari has allowed the Swat Valley to fall under Islamic law in exchange for a (already Taliban broken) cease fire.
We do indeed “face a common threat.” Karzai and Zardari are part of it.

    :-/

    competence is one thing

    AGENDA is another

not sure I like HILLARY working for BARRY

not sure I’ll EVER COME AROUND!

  • Texas Playwright

HIllary has to work in the lion’s den if she wants to accomplish goals for America. I’m with Condi Rice on this one–you can’t ignore countries because you don’t like their policies or politics, especially in the area of women’s/human rights. Diplomacy doesn’t mean we like some of these countries–it means we figure out what we can live with as a nation as they do the same.

We are globally interdependent now, in ways we know and don’t know. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer–that is what Hillary is doing.

I wouldn’t ignore them, nor would I support the regimes of slavers, much less choose them as our go-to guys as we are apparently doing again. http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=91334&sectionid=351020403

We backed that POS Karzai from the start of the 2004 election: instead of expressing support for truly reform minded candidates we settled on the brother of one of the largest heroin producers in Afghanistan to promote. Carter, Clinton, Bush 1 & Dick Cheney attended his freaking inauguration in a grand show of support.
That’s a bit more than ordinary diplomacy.
Also it isn’t Clinton whom I fault now.

Interesting comments by Bob Baer, I will have to get his book.
    Interesting interview LJ?

You know that interview by Nic Roberts strikes me as odd. I do not know why yet but.. insightful but it was just odd.

  • OMG

Go Hillary! Isn’t she awesome? Thank you Hillary!
    You go girl!
Hillary is the total package, brains, looks, personality, brains.. I bet her barbecues are full of people who like each other. Way to go Hillary.
    Defeat the Taliban.
AND…we all know that without equality, a society is not civil and only civil societies thrive.
WoW! Simply the best mind ever.

  • jbjd

Ambivalence about her being there aside, HRC is absolutely fabulous as S of S. And, obviously, everyone who comes in contact with her (and him) knows this.
