Obama Gets a Flight Suit

Check out the “package” on Barack. Since it is a cartoon codpiece, however, it probably is not a a genuine replica. But it is official–Barack Obama is now an action figure:

Seems that Barack forgot his problem with George Bush’s policy of “air raiding villages” (I know you are shocked and I should have forewarned you):
Let’s note that since taking office Obama has offered up an additional 21,000 troops but is still far short of the 30,000 requested by the U.S. commander in Afghanistan. The policy currently being pursued along the no-man’s land of the border demarcating Afghanistan and Pakistan is reportedly under the control of the CIA. I do not doubt that most of the targets of these strikes are people we believe are considered important to the Taliban. Unfortunately, they are living with their families and we are killing civilians.
This is not the first time, nor will it be the last, that the United States is killing women and children. Since this conflict ultimately is a counter-insurgency operation, inflicting these kinds of casualties tends to be counter-productive and emboldens the enemy.
The U.S. stepped up its attacks using drones starting last August at the direction of President Bush. Looks like President Obama is continuing this policy. I suspect most Americans will shrug their shoulders and not give it another moment’s thought. Some in Europe, however, clearly are troubled by the civilian losses. Because we are looking to Europe to pony up more soldiers to fight in Europe the civilian casualties likely will be a new rally point to forge a stronger front to resist increasing Europe’s role in the Afghan war.
