Sacrificing Our Troops on the Altar of Republican Politics

by
Larry C Johnson

Leave it to the Porcine Draft Dodger–Karl Rove–to impugn the character of combat veterans.  Can’t blame him for trotting out the same playbook that worked so well in 2004 against the candidacy of John Kerry.  If it worked once it should work again.

Karl_rove_fat_ass

Of course I am referring to Karl’s speech Tuesday night to Republicans in New Hampshire.  According to a piece in Wednesday’s Washington Post:

In a speech to New Hampshire Republican officials here Monday night,
the White House deputy chief of staff attacked Democrats who have
criticized the U.S. war effort in Iraq, such as Sen. John F. Kerry
(Mass.) and Rep. John P. Murtha (Pa.), who he said advocate "cutting
and running."

"They may be with you for the first shots," Rove
said of such opponents. "But they’re not going . . . to be with you for
the tough battles."

Karl is a shameless bastard.  This could explain why his mother killed herself.  Once she discovered what a despicable soul she had spawned she apparently saw no other way out.  It would be one thing if his vile tactics were simply mere smears of politicians like Kerry and Murtha.  They are big boys and should be able to defend themselves quite ably against this turd.  But Rove, like Josef Goebbels, has used fear and smear as his primary tools to keep George Bush in power.  And to what end?

Let’s start with Karl’s participation in exposing the identity of an undercover CIA officer in order to divert attention from the fact that George Bush, over the repeated protests of the intelligence community, falsely claimed that Iraq was trying to get uranium from Niger.  This was not just a human foible, a mistake.  It was a bold lie used deliberately to incite fear and justify invading Iraq.   They could not afford to admit their lie so they let George Tenet take the blame.

Rove did not stop there.  Conflating Saddam with Bin Laden was part of his Fear Factor America campaign.  He helped convince most American’s that Saddam was in bed with the man and the group who attacked us on 9-11.  I give him credit for doing masterful deception operations, but I loathe what he did to America and its standing in the world.  The fear of Bin Laden and the fear of nuclear Iraq were the key ingredients for the war fever Rove helped whip up.

Now, if fat Karl had been at the head of the line to enlist in the Army and help lead the invasion, I wouldn’t be so cranky.  But he didn’t, and Cheney didn’t, and Wolfowitz didn’t, and Rummy didn’t and the Bush daughters were busy getting drunk in DC bars.  What is it about Republican chickenhawks who played every angle during the Vietnam War to avoid going to war but have no hesistation to start a war in Iraq and send other peoples children into the fray?

We are now embroiled in a civil war in Iraq where we are busy killing Sunni insurgents while helping Shias with close ties to Iran consolidate power.  Most Sunnis are convinced we want to exterminate them.  As a result we will remain a main target for Sunni terrorism for at least a generation.  Thanks Karl.  At the same time, Karl is helping whip up new war fever against the new enemy in Iran.  If you oppose invading Iran you hate freedom and are selling America’s freedom to an Islamic Adolf Hitler.  At least that’s what Karl wants you to believe.

Karl and the Bush Administration have consistently used the threat of terror, the threat of Saddam, and the war in Iraq as a political club to destroy their opponents and to consolidate their power.  Retired Marine General Mick Trainor, along with Michael Gordon, has chronicled this cynical policy in their book, COBRA II.  This is no longer a matter of opinion, it is a documented record of fact.

When decorated war veterans like John Murtha and John Kerry dare to challenge the incompetence of the Administration in its prosecution of the war in Iraq and its wildly chaotic counter terrorism policy, Karl and many Republicans respond by accusing them of being soft on communism, oops, excuse me, I meant terrorism.  I for one am fed up with these tactics and will fight back.  Karl and his ilk are getting America’s sons and daughters killed in Iraq and in Afghanistan.  He compounds the horror by wrapping himself in their blood and their sacrifice, claiming that only Republicans genuinely care about the troops.  Yeah, the Republicans who sent our troops to Iraq with insufficient forces, with inadequate body armor, and with non-existent planning for the aftermath.  And Rove has the balls to blame Democrats for this debacle?  No dice fat boy.

The time has come to say enough.  This is not about Democrat, or Independent, or Republican.  This is a fight for the soul of this nation.  Karl Rove may have cut a deal to stay out of jail and avoid prosecution, but that does not free him to attack the patriotism of Americans who care deeply about their country and its security.  I will guarantee you one thing–Karl’s mom would not be proud.

  • oldtree

a subliminal suggestion of this nature to the dog of war seems appropriate. it would do the work our constitution would have, had it not been eviscerated.

  • Sam G

You are truly a sick and twisted individual. What kind of normal human being relishes the fact that someone’s mother killed herself?

    Shame on you.

  • http://spaces.msn.com/mpumpky/PersonalSpace.aspx?_c02_owner=1 PrchrLady

oh, shame on you Sam G… you speak before you have the evidence. Larry isn’t sick, he is just pointing out a fact… He was explaining that he understood why she could have done it, not that he was ‘glad’ she had done it… choose YOUR words more carefully. You are playing in the big league here. This is not myspace. dot whatever…

I think the sadder thing about all this is that rover can get away with this in the first place. I stand with many men and women who served and are serving when I say I would rather have Kerry or Murtha, or any other of the band of brothers/sisters next to me in this battle than any of the chickenhawks in the rethuglican party. They are long on words, and short in action. I wouldn’t trust a one of them. Shame on the rethugs for letting him and the rest of them get away with this. Peace, M

  • AA

    Shark jumping takes practice.

    This is just sad.

  • Sue

Even for you Scary, that is low.

  • Sue

Scary is ignoring what Rove said. Murtha voted for the war. Was a war hawk even. Until politically it was inconvenient. Kind of like Kerry. Oh…my…Rove had a point that had nothing to do with their service in combat.

  • Astonished Murtha Fan

Rove’s mom’s suicide? You think that’s somewhere a human being would go? Really?

It doesn’t matter whether you’re glad she died or not. Coulter never said she was glad the Jersey Girls’ husbands were dead, either. I hear FOX pundits keep saying we must ignore her slimy jokes and listen to her message, and I say: nobody with a brain has any business trusting a message coated in slime. That goes for you, too.

  • Hope

Mr. Sam you probably just went out and bought Ann Coulter’s new book and are relishing every mean-spirited, disgusting word that whoremonger has written. But it isn’t okay when Larry dishes it out? Well I say good for Larry! I would kill myself too if I had produced such a putrid son as Karl Rove. Would it that he had never been conceived, let alone born into this world.

  • http://aol.com Karl

    Larry,you really are scum.

  • Sue

Where is the high road if Scary stoops to Coulter’s level? There isn’t one. If Coulter deserves scorn for her words, then Scary deserves them too.

  • Hope

    Oh hello Karl.

  • Chants

    Larry,

Don’t worry about this mama joke. Nobody’s listenting to you anyway. Not anymore.

  • Extraneus

    Wow, you’re an idiot.

  • http://www.ignoranthussy.blogspot.com phinky

Wow, it’s amazing how some people can dish it out but can’t take it. And the only thing taking the high road got democrats was a one way trip over a cliff.

At least Kerry and Murtha had the cojones to join up. Karl Rove is a pantswetter who did everything in his power to avoid military service when his country needed him in a time of war. It’s amazing that he can say these things in a room full of Republicans. I don’t think Rove would have the courage to say that to a room full of veterans.

As for Rove not being indicted in the Valerie Wilson case. Just like those other prominent Republicans, Robert Hansson and Katrina Leung, he squealed. Traitors always do.

    – Once she discovered what a despicable soul she had spawned she apparently saw no other way out. –

I appreciate if you could point out a FACT here…really, do you have PROOF?

    Larry,

You just went over a cliff with you pathetic hyperbole, you should stopped when you were ahead.

  • Sue

    phinky,

You must have missed the part where the high road was discussed. If Scary wants to go down the low road, he takes the bumps, just like Coulter. ::grin::

  • IncPens

I had to come and see it for myself.

Larry, I don’t know you, I don’t know anything about you.

But I do know that one day there will be sorrow in your life, and it is my hope that no one uses it to their own advantage.

    Peace.

  • http://www.ignoranthussy.blogspot.com phinky

    Larry brought up two facts:

    1. Rove’s mother committed suicide.

    2. Rove is a loathsome human being based on his smearing Kerry and Murtha.

Maybe number one has something to do with number two. If it’s true, it’s not a smear. If Karl Rove can question John Kerry’s and John Murtha’s patriotism. We should be able to question whether or not Karl Rove drove his mother to suicide. Karl Rove, Ann Coulter and their ilk have damaged this country with thier lies. If it takes implying that Rove played a role in his mother’s death in order to stop him I’m all for it.

  • http://profile.typekey.com/realhugh/ hugh

Larry’s mother probably would have aborted him had she been able to read then the screed he writes today.

  • http://www.chickenhawkexpress.blogspot.com Robin Boyd

No matter how you try to spin it – the comment about Rove’s mother crossed the line. Those that defend it or excuse it have let partisan hatred override decency.

  • http://spaces.msn.com/mpumpky/PersonalSpace.aspx?_c02_owner=1 PrchrLady

thanks phinky, you saved me the time. She DID committ suicide. That is a FACT. Some of the new people here have fact and fiction turned around, or can’t understand the english language, and/or have to ‘see’ it on TV to believe it is true. When they read, they just pick the ‘facts’ that they like. They don’t know they difference between talking points and ‘the whole plan’. If you want to use talking points here, be prepared to be asked to support it with more than a rehash of the latest MSM talking heads…

BTW Sue, where are your facts, what do you KNOW to be true about Larry being a ‘source’? You said you have informers, and mentioned that you have a website. Do you have that info there, can you link to your sources for me? This is the first I have ever heard about this. Thanks, and please, try to be civil.

  • Robert Tulloch

What a pathetic human being you are. Makes my skincrawl but then I gues that is why you made the comment.

    A low end shock jock?

  • MAA

Porcine? This from a porked-up chubbette named Larry?

By the way, Murtha and Kerry are not patriots. Patriots love their country.

  • greg

what a washed up loser you should have been flushed down the toilet at birth

  • http://spaces.msn.com/mpumpky/PersonalSpace.aspx?_c02_owner=1 PrchrLady

MAA are you out of your mind when you say?: “Murtha and Kerry are not patriots. Patriots love their country.”

You are as bad as Rove. What have/did/are you doing to serve this country?? Not much, IMHO, from your lack of support of veterans who have actually worn the uniform. Not only do these men love this country, but they are willing to stand up and take the abuse of the sheeple like you who can only repeat rover’s latest talking point. God Bless them for continuing to stand up for the truth.

Yo Mama’s so stupid she thought killing herself would get rid of you.

No Prchrlady, apparently your reading comprehension skills are on the fritz today… L O W L Y … I did NOT ask if she had committed suicide I asked…

“– Once she discovered what a despicable soul she had spawned she apparently saw no other way out. –

I appreciate if you could point out a FACT here…really, do you have PROOF?”

Read it as many times as you need to, but I asked you where — IN THIS SENTENCE— was a FACT. A FACT!!!! AND do you or Larry have PROOF of this?

Simple really, and next time no cheap punts because you can’t answer a simple question.

  • Mike

Your mommy should have swallowed daddy’s sperm instead, Larry.

  • topsecretk9

    kim–

Where you been? But I have to say that 22:17 is a top ten, really.

  • Darkseid

PrchrLady: This is the big league? The real big league has chunks of corn in its stool bigger than you.

And Lar, you are a putz.

  • Tim

Isn’t it ironic that when Larry presents the facts he gets responses that don’t debate with any facts of their own but attack his character. That is right of the Rove play book. When you don’t have facts on your side, do some name calling.

  • Sue

    Tim,

Highly ironic. Such as “Porcine Draft Dodger–Karl Rove”. You guys are nothing if not consistent.

    ::grin::

  • Dave in CO

Larry – you are a pathetic excuse for a human being. Don’t change. I hope more pass through here and read the thoughts of the Left. Nice work.

prchrlady – ripping Coulter while defending Larry makes you a hypocrite.

Hope – how, exactly, is Coulter a “whoremonger”. Do you know what that word means? Apparently not.

  • PrchrLady

“Read it as many times as you need to, but I asked you where — IN THIS SENTENCE— was a FACT. A FACT!!!! AND do you or Larry have PROOF of this?”

I perhaps misunderstood you, or mis-stated myself. I was referring to the statement that she committed suicide. I guess I am not sure that we were talking about the same thing. The facts can be checked, but to my knowledge she did. As too Larry’s comment on why she did what she did, I believe that to be an opinion. Some opinions are worth more or less than others. We must decide for ourselves after searching out all the facts, whether they are worth holding on to…

Also, Sue, I was not trying to be rude, or smart, but I thot you said something in another thread about having info about Larry, from some sources. I thot you were referring to a website that I could follow up for more info.

And to all the other new or returning posters, I ask your tolerance of my ‘old style’ in my writing. I do not mean to offend. I like new info, but hate the personal slams when people comment. I have been guilty here today myself of just that. Forgive me. Peace, M

    Preacher Lady,
Save your breath dear with topsecretk9. He is in a junior college and is not likely to graduate. He lacks the mental tools to excel but has chosen to comment on blogs as a way to compensate for his many inadequacies. A truly sad soul. Karl’s mom would have put him in a home.

  • http://spaces.msn.com/mpumpky/PersonalSpace.aspx?_c02_owner=1 PrchrLady

‘prchrlady – ripping Coulter while defending Larry makes you a hypocrite.’

Yes, I agree, that it would. Actually, I don’t think that I have ever said or written anything about Coulter. Did you see something different? Maybe I am getting senile earlier than I had hoped. Also, I have not tried to defend Larry. I think it was a snide comment that would have probably been better to have left unsaid. I do however understand his anger and frustration. I do think Rove is one of the most despicable human beings alive. I am glad he is not one of my sons.

  • Tim

    “Porcine Draft Dodger–Karl Rove”

This is not true? While the characterization may offend you the statement is in fact true, is it not?

And your statement “Scary is ignoring what Rove said. Murtha voted for the war. Was a war hawk even. Until politically it was inconvenient. Kind of like Kerry.” is based on your knowledge of what? Is this something you know or did you hear it somewhere? And if Rove said it you just believe it in good faith? I want to know how you can make this connection that ‘B’ is a result of ‘A’. Did you ever do any debating in college?

  • Sue

    Tim,

Scary has bigger problems right now than whether or not I did any debating in college. ::grin::

It’s hard for me to comprehend the kind of soul-crushing hatred that would drive someone to mock a political opponent’s family suicide. What’s next — yukking it up over rape victims? Just when I thought American political discourse could get no lower… Larry, why don’t you and Coulter take a long vacation?

  • Thinker

    Another great piece, Larry.

Hey I’m just waitin’ fer jnr’s first coke bust. Them girls start everythin’ so young these days! You gotta keep them family traditions goin’, born again or else.

  • Scott

Great job, Larry. And exactly what needs to be said right now. Everything about these guys is hypocritical, from the “Clear Skies Initiative” to “No Child Left Behind” to the “Plan for Victory in Iraq.” They’re not just incompetent. They’re truly dangerous. Our Founding Fathers must be spinning like tops over what these bastards are doing to our country.

  • Tim

These are the facts in Larry’s article:

 Leave it to the Porcine Draft Dodger–Karl Rove–to impugn the character of combat veterans.

Rove is a Porcine Draft Dodger while Kerry and Murtha served their country honorably (Unless you still believe the Swift Boaters who have been proven to be liars)

 Karl is a shameless bastard.

Remember, he started his career by bugging his own office and blaming it on the opposing candidate (Proven by an FBI investigation)

 This could explain why his mother killed herself.

His mother’s suicide is a matter of public record.

 But Rove, like Josef Goebbels, has used fear and smear as his primary tools to keep George Bush in power. And to what end?

Compare the anti-gay propaganda with the anti Jew propaganda of that era.

 Let’s start with Karl’s participation in exposing the identity of an undercover CIA officer in order to divert attention from the fact that George Bush, over the repeated protests of the intelligence community, falsely claimed that Iraq was trying to get uranium from Niger

The CIA officer that was exposed was working in WMD in Iran. It not only ruined her career but shut down the whole operation. Too bad, now more than ever, we could really use the information they could have provided us.

 Rove did not stop there. Conflating Saddam with Bin Laden was part of his Fear Factor America campaign. He helped convince most American’s that Saddam was in bed with the man and the group who attacked us on 9-11.

This is true. We know there were no WMDs or connection to 9/11.

 Now, if fat Karl had been at the head of the line to enlist in the Army and help lead the invasion, I wouldn’t be so cranky. But he didn’t, and Cheney didn’t, and Wolfowitz didn’t, and Rummy didn’t and the Bush daughters were busy getting drunk in DC bars.

This is true. None of them have ever been in harm’s way and actively worked to avoid it. War is OK for me and my children but not them and their children.

 We are now embroiled in a civil war in Iraq where we are busy killing Sunni insurgents while helping Shias with close ties to Iran consolidate power.

Too bad it isn’t safe for the media to travel freely so they can cover the “happy stories” in Iraq. More media people have been killed in three years in Iraq than all of the time we were in Viet Nam.

 The time has come to say enough.

    Amen Brother

jerks like you are why the cia is dysfunctional.

  • Andrew Piel

    Larry,

The fact that when you attempt to make an argument against someone’s political beliefs or strategy you have to draw upon a personal tragedy in thier life that is in no way connected to either, belies the weakness of your own argument, or in the very least, shows how your emotional hatred of Karl Rove clouds your ability to make cogent arguments against him. Do you think you are being persuasive when you have to use tragic the death of Karl Rove’s mother to bolster your point? Do you remember how much you loved your mother? Have you ever felt the anguish of losing a mother?

No, Larry, in doing so you just turn off those who might possibly give the logic of your arguments a second thought, and become part of the cartoon-like punidts at the extreme of each point of view who rely on weak theatrics to either make themselves feel better by venting or because they think people who are just as simplistic as they are will like them for “pushing the limits.”

I hope you can grow beyond such behavior.

  • Leslie

Rove has no strategery left in his arsenal other than to use 9/11 against the Democrats again. That should give us hope that Rove’s same old, same old Democrats=weak on national security line won’t work this time, except with Bush’s core supporters. Because a large majority of Americans no longer approve of Bush.

Meanwhile, top Senate Republicans, such as Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska, are giving aid and comfort to the enemies of US troops in Iraq. They want to give amnesty to terrorists and insurgents for killing US troops. But that’s OK, because the White House Press Secretary says that 2,500 is just a number. So, Rove, please tell me again who supports the troops and who is patriotic? Because I’m confused.

  • Tim

    Do you even know him?

And who is Scary? Is that a nickname he uses?

God, you trolls need to just give it a rest. Your collective chastising of Larry Johnson for mentioning Rove’s mother’s suicide is going nowhere. Its not like Republicans have some sort of ethical higher ground, and the rest of us haven’t figured out we have to fight fire with fire. Yeah, thats right, anything is fair game anymore, including Rove’s dead mother. Who taught us to fight that dirty? Well, it was none other than that filthy pig, Karl Rove, himself. So, give your weeping and gnashing of your teeth over Larry’s post a rest… your patronizing diatribes don’t work around here. In other words, go tell it to your Mama’s.

Like Larry said, “We are fighting for the soul of our nation…” When things get this serious, then “being nice” doesn’t cut it anymore. “Being nice” is what got us into this trouble in the first place. “Being nice” let Karl Rove and George Dubya Bush happen.

    Mr. Johnson:

You would not dare say to someone’s face what you have written above.

    You would not dare.

I wonder if your supporters on this site know why?

On another note, I recall (and am almost certain to forget, since I will not ever view the pollution that you call writing again) that on your blog header you write: “We only care that you think about what we write.”

Well, I think what you write is utter shit. Do you still care, Mr. Johnson? Well, here’s some more: an infinite number of poo-flinging chimps couldn’t defile the planet more thoroughly than has your “contribution” to the public debate. Feel free to use that on your masthead, it makes more sense than your self-indulgent, half-witted swipes at Fox News and whatever other network you’re trying to mock.

To all of your supporters, I salute you with a paraphrase of the immortal words of a master politician, statesman, and future Mt. Rushmore carvee:
    “Go fuck yourselves.”

Happy to meet any of you, anytime, to further discuss your collective uselessness to the universe.

P.S. Rove’s mother committed suicide in Reno, Nevada, when Rove was 30 years old. Whatever reasons she had to kill herself, knowing the sort of son she brought into the world may have been a contributing factor. Because, by age 30, Rove had already become practiced in the fine arts of lying, cheating, stealing, smearing, libel, breaking and entering, etc.

  • http://profile.typekey.com/joby/ joby

I understand the anger and shame that Mr. Johnson feels that compels a inflammatory remark that seems to have taken over this discussion. Rove is beneath contempt for the tactics that he has willingly (and gleefully) used and honed over the years. That Mr. Johnson made such a statement about a piece of slime who conspired to the destruction of not just a CIA operative’s career, but an entire operation (that still has not confirmed the likely loss of assets) for the infantile goal of political payback is frankly, a petty slight.

Additionally, what regularly spews from the pie-holes of right wing pundits/talk hosts/idiots vastly overshadows anything Mr. Johnson has posted. But, I guess as the saying goes: “It’s OK if you’re a republican”. And clearly, that adage has been proven here tonight. How about just one of you conservafans call out your own for unnecessary, vituperative remarks that detract from rational discussion. I’ll even toss you a softball: Ann Coulter. Hell, here are a few more: Bill Frist; Denny Hastert; Dick “why don’t you fuck off’ Cheney.

Lastly, unless you’ve had a close relative blame you for an unsuccessful suicide attampt (which you intervened to stop) you can pretty much fuck off with any complaint about LJ’s statement. You have no understanding what drives suicide and are just looking to sling some arrows. LJ may be more correct than he realizes.

Just when I thought Ann Coulter was lowest of the low, here comes Larry Johnson. Come to think of it, I’ve never seen them together at the same time. Maybe a little cross-dressing thing going on there…

  • Karl

I have a question too, Larry.

Why do you call Rumsfeld a chickenhawk? How many years does a guy have to do in the Navy before he gets to be a veteran in your beady little eyes?

    He’s a retired Captain. That’s an O-6.

Better check your sources, Mr. Intelligence.

real class on bringing Rove’s mother into it. u must be a big supporter of coulter and her jersey girl comments. given your judgement (or lack thereof) no wonder you are no longer with the CIA.

  • Lesley

    Mr. Johnson,

Here is some data on Donald Rumsfeld’s military service of which you may not have been aware (from Defenselink):

Mr. Rumsfeld attended Princeton University on academic and NROTC scholarships (A.B., 1954) and served in the U.S. Navy (1954-57) as an aviator and flight instructor. In 1957, he transferred to the Ready Reserve and continued his Naval service in flying and administrative assignments as a drilling reservist until 1975. He transferred to the Standby Reserve when he became Secretary of Defense in 1975 and to the Retired Reserve with the rank of Captain in 1989.

  • William

    You are sick fuck Larry.

What’s next? Laughing at George Bush because his sister died of cancer?

  • BumperStickerist

using Larry Johnson Approved Tactics can I speculate that Gore’s son threw himself in front of a car to help his dad’s career?

    no. of course not.

    Al might have pushed him.

no, wait, that’s not valid speculation either.

The problem with Larry and Co. is simple – the Dems have been losing elections because they’re crazy and, as such, politically irrelevant.

Somewhere along the line Larry and Co. decided that going bat-shit crazy must be the answer to gaining political relevance.

Which is a shame because Rove had nothing to do with this particular post and if you’re sitting there reading this thinking “Rove … he’s behind this” you need help, actual professional psychological help.

Seek it, as it won’t find you.

I’d like to have a viable two party system, I just wish the Democrats would provide one.

  • http://whatdoiknow.typepad.com KathyF

I find it ironic that people who’ve come here to excoriate Larry for his poor choice of words (and I would count myself among them) are using even worse language in their efforts to do that.

“His mother should have flushed him down the toilet”?

    Right. Pot. Kettle. Pitch black.

And let’s get out our dictionaries, people. There’s a difference between “you’re” and “your”. Learn it.

Meanwhile, Larry, there are better ways to make your point that Rove is shameless without resorting to shameless writing on your part.

  • LizS

What a waste of bandwidth. I’d never checked out this blog before, but I heard about your post, so I thought I’d look and see.

I think we need to call a haz mat team. Your blog is biological waste.

  • http://gidblog.blogspot.com Gideon S.

Let’s set aside the fact that Rove’s mother committed suicide and focus on the rest of the post.

2,500 American soldiers and thousands of Iraqi civillians are dead because Karl Rove and the rest of the Bush Junta started a war based on lies that violated international law, destabilized an entire geographic region and the global economy, burdened our military, and inflamed our enemies — making America a bigger target than ever before.

Our country is now less-able to defend itself at a time when it is more threatened than ever, a direct result of actions taken by people like Karl Rove.

Every member of the Bush Administration should be dragged to the Hague and tried for crimes against humanity.

  • Tank

Yeah. This’ll be that credibility thing we were discussing earlier Larry.

  • Richard Young

Wow, what an elevated thinker this Johnson is. I mean terms like ‘turd’, references to a mother’s suicide. I mean how does he do it.
When this war is successfully concluded, over the obstacles of the Johnson-Murtha-Moore-Kennedy-et.al. wing of the
Democrapic party there will be endless discussions of your treason, your perfidy, and your general vile nature. In the meantime, mock on. It reveals to the world the kind of miscreants you actually are

  • Robert

Bush’s Nickname for Rove is Turdblossom – for a flower which grows from a pile of cow dung. Gee, wonder how he thought up that nickname.

Chickenhawk Rove and his “GOP victory before anything else” stragetgies are bad for America but bring up his mother’s suicide if over the line.

  • taters

    Larry,
How are you, man? You were great on YKos – yeah the PORCINE PIECE OF SHIT will get his, I’m sure. His mentor, Lee Atwater recanted before he died, and not that I’d wish that kind of death on anyone but at least he ( Atwater )was able to make some kinda contrition. I wanna see the letter, too. I didn’t know that about Rove’s mom, suicide is always sad but now that I think about it, it makes me ask the question, too.
BTW -What’s up the girly man trolls? Squeamish shrill little banshees aren’t they?
    Can’t they handle testosterone?

  • http://profile.typekey.com/idgit/ idgit

I support veterans 100%, and I thank each for their service.

However, being a veteran says only so much about your “character” and Larry knows that (if he is honest with himself). There are plenty of character faults in all of us, including Mr. Kerry and Mr. Murtha. Mr. Rove has plenty of leeway to impugn them, you and me. As both Kerry and Murtha want us out of Iraq NOW, Rove’s statement that they won’t be with you all the way (OK, so maybe they _will_ be behind you) is right on.

And, to belittle Rove through his mother’s suicide is an awful thing. At least no one has to impugn YOUR character, as the sadder parts are out here for all to see.

  • buzz

Wow. And you used to work in intellegence? For THIS country? Thank God that’s over.

  • JR

Christ, with idiots like you working at the CIA no wonder we screwed up the following:

Fall of the Soviet Union (didn’t see that one coming)

    North Korea nukes

Pakistan and India both testing nukes (lot of oh crap faces in Langley on that one the morning that happened)

    World trade Center 1 (’93)

    Cole bombing

    Kobar Towers

    African embassy bombings.

Should dump ever one of you old retards at CIA and State and get some people in there who know to do more than stare a satellite photos

  • Joey

Larry, you really are a bitter douche bag. Murtha and Lurch are traitors and you’re just one more kook that crawled out of the fever swamp. I am appalled that we have such mentally unstable people such as yourself working at the CIA. No wonder they missed Pakistan and India’s nuclear weapons programs and misestimated Iraq’s WMD programs.

    Good work, shit for brains.

  • Gypsy

Porcine? This from a porked-up chubbette named Larry?

By the way, Murtha and Kerry are not patriots. Patriots love their country

I regret that Larry used the Karl Rove analogy to make his point. I believe that has obscured the basic facts in this post. If you are a Republican Chickenhawk what does a Soldier have to do to be Patriotic? Die or Vote Republican? Karl Rove IS a despicable human being and I believe that Larry was just really mad when he wrote this one. I am totally mad too.

These people have probably started the end of this experiment called Democracy by turning us into an Empire. I know the jury is out on that but I don’t believe that Larry was using hyperbole when he said
“The time has come to say enough. This is not about Democrat, or Independent, or Republican. This is a fight for the soul of this nation. Karl Rove may have cut a deal to stay out of jail and avoid prosecution, but that does not free him to attack the patriotism of Americans who care deeply about their country and its security.”

We have to put aside partisanship and make decisions for this country that are right. I don’t believe we can loose this battle but I believe that putting us into Iraq has made us less safe. It has been almost 5 years since 9-11 and still Osama Bin Laden is free. We have done everything Bin Laden predicted we would do in our over reaction, and I believe he is trying to keep us busy in Iraq the way we did the Soviet Union in Afghanistan while they bankrupt us. I think thanks to the Chickenhawk crowd it seems to be working well. That is where the debate should be, not with one unfortunate turn of phrase that isn’t near as bad as what Ann Coulter says and Rush Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin et al say on a daily basis.
We have been trying to fight clean and you can’t fight clean with the Karl Rove crowd but I would like to point out one thing. He made his most recent attack on Kerry and Murtha at a fund raiser for his defense fund and only raised 60,000.
That is not much for the Republicans to raise at any event so maybe even the Republicans realize that he DID out a CIA asset who was a specialist in WMD for Iran. That should be treated as treason even if it isn’t indictable.

So back to my first comment, Kerry and Murtha fought when their nation called and where was Karl Rove, Dick Cheney and George Bush? I think for those that believe that George Bush served in the National Guard, you should ask yourself why there is no one who has collected the reward to come forward and say they saw him in Alabama? The reason is he was AWOL and has gotten away with it.

Democrats had better take the fight to these despicable people if they want to win in November.

  • TeeTime

I can see from that the yellow Elephant wingnut 101st Typing Brigade have leaped to Rover’s defense. All the snarky invective will never change the fact that Rover, Cheney, W, et al. are in the process of destroying this country. Under the administration of “W” or should I say “I wanna hold your hand Prince Abdullah” we’ve installed a caudillo – we’re not much better than most banana republics. So snark on – and follow the example of your publican chickenhawk caudillo and stay outta harms way – and steal from the poor and give to the rich.

Rove may be a shameless bastard, but could we please keep our heads somewhere north of ad hominem country?

  • Step

  • Charles Bird

Leaving aside your idiotic suicide reference, Larry, there should be a rule in blogging. When you complain about sleazy politics, you do so without posting in sleazy fashion, such as not identifying your updates as updates. A second rule is getting your facts straight. Bush said Africa, not Niger. It can’t be a “lie”, as you call it, because the British stand by the intelligence to this day.

Criticisms of Kerry and Murtha being soft on terrorism are legitimate ones. Iraq is the main front right now in the War Against Militant Islamism, and those two are advocating either immediate or phased cut-and-run from this primary battlefield. This has all to do about their dismal judgment, not their patriotism. This is not to defend Rove. Far as I’m concerned, he has no business being in the White House when there’s no election at stake.

Lastly, my general rule is that folks who use the epithet chickenhawk are moonbats. Thanks for clearing that up, Larry.

How disgusting that a supposedly educated man would use a mother’s suicide as part of a adhomin attack on a politician of the opposite party.

  • http://www.vitaleccentricity.blogspot.com Matty The Dude

There were a few facts in that article.

    1) Rove’s mother commited suicide.

    2) Rove uses Kerry and Murtha’s flop on the war and “cut and run” mentality against them.

Pretty much everything else in there was speculation.

I can’t believe how many people in this thread are saying that Rove being a disgusting human being is fact. Are you serious? Seriously serious? Do you know the definition of a fact? Oh, this is classic.

Ann Coulter ponders the fragging of John Murtha, wishing the NY Times building blown up, and killing Liberals.

Larry Johnson ponders the reason for Karl Rove’s mothers suicide.

Karl Rove, and many Republican publically question the loyalty of John Kerry, and John Murtha, and every other person who does not worship at the altar of George Bush.

Larry Johnson wonders if Karl Rove has adopted the tactics of Joseph Goebbels.

    Equalivance?

    No.

Yet the outrage from the right would make you think so.

  • megapotamus

Hmm, I would just love to hear the military histories of the folks here denouncing Karl as a draft dodger. Failing that, shall we have an expiation on Bill Clinton’s war record? Shall we? No? Gee, what a shocker. We lack the vocabulary here for what must be said. To denounce Democrats of course sweeps up many honorable if ignorant people. Lefties? We’re getting closer but still the self-desribed Lefty is not, presumptively, as vicious, worthless, witless and hopeless a skunk as we see demonstrated by Larry and his assorted disciples. Let us use the pronoun then, you, and you know who you are; “You mutts are the lowest scum on the face of the earth or for a good distance beneath. Miserable anti-American, anti-human and of course, anti-freedom. You should be cursed to hell but you have made a hellish environment for yourselves long ago. It extends from ear to ear and eyeball to bald spot. Do us all a favor and cut your own throats. Skipping the meds a day or two will make it easier. Karl’s mother killed herself on a true recognition of Karl’s nature? How did any of you vermin survive your first look in the mirror? Shame. Shame shame and more shame. I long for a face to face with any of you mutts who will cop to your slanders, bile and vicious stupidity.”

It looks like U have touched a raw nerve with some of the the people responding. From the attacks on U article people think is ok for Rove to destory other people and those around them. The responders are worried that you hit him hard with some facts and hurt their feelings. I say become adults and see the light of day on this Rove character. Rove has a scorched earth policy to destory others, he sould be prepared to take the heat. No matter what is said, he hold no punches back.

    Bravo Larry,

    Murtha wants to do this…

The truth is twisted to suit their current need, and Rove is the main twister. If Karl is involved you can bet that no truth is involved.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chickenhawk_(politics)

Chickenhawk (also chicken hawk and chicken-hawk) is a political epithet used in United States to criticize a politician, bureaucrat, or commentator who strongly supports a war or other military action, but has never personally been in a war, especially (but not always) if that person is perceived to have actively avoided military service when of draft age. The term is a deliberate insult, meant to indicate that the person in question is cowardly or hypocritical for personally avoiding combat in the past while advocating that others go to war in the present.

It’s unfortunate that Rove’s mother committed suicide. But what of the irreperable loss suffered by these 2500 American families in a war started by these chickenhawks for no discernible reason? Where is the outrage on their behalf? What of the tens of thousands of Iraqis who’ve lost their lives, limbs, dignity, families, livelihoods? While Mr. Rove waddles about in his terrifying freedom & his mother rests in her grave, crimes continue to abound in our name and those tsk-tsking Mr. Johnson’s “bad tatse” have little to say about that.

  • Jack Burton

    Where to start?

Larry the douche’s former employer didn’t predict the fall of a country that spans 12 timezones. Good call there fellas.

John Kerry is a sack of shit traitor. He recounted tales from the winter soldier bullshit to the Senate where most or all the participants were later proven to be liars who were nowhere near combat. He unlawfully met with the north vietnamese in Paris to conduct his own peace talks and likely received a less than honorable discharge from the military. Won’t release his military records so I’ll just assume that’s the case until he proves otherwise. That is how things work in the left’s cesspool isn’t it? Calling Dan Rather.

John Murtha is a sack of shit traitor. He publicy accused Marines of atrocities in the middle of an investigation based on anonymous sources – and it’s starting to look like the whole thing was made up bullshit from the beginning. Let’s see, do you believe American soldiers or some sack of shit anti-American terrorists sunnis in Iraq. Uh, I’ll go with the terrorists.

So we have Larry the inept CIA employee, Kerry the traitor who smeared our troops based on lies, and Murtha the traitor who smeared our troops without facts.

I think Rove is pretty much dead on in his assessment of each. What’s the matter you jackasses, pissed that it’s no longer acceptable to spit on soldiers at the airport?

You people make me sick. And did I really read that Larry actually threatened someone? What are you going to do Larry, shoot a paperclip at them with a rubber band?

Being involved in the “suicide” of her “friend” Vince Foster. Waiting for hours to report the death so she could conveniently have his office records cleared out. Please…Karl is only emulating the lessons he learned from Hillary.

Thos who commit suicide have a sickness, and to exploit that in a manner to shade those who bear the burden of mourning with some degree of guilt for the suicide is beyond the pale.

    I quote Red Dawn:

I hope your response is NOT:
    “It keeps me warm.”

    That’s just cold, man.

I think you ALL are disgusting. Godamned Redstaters with thier “why do you hate America rhetoric” and Bluestaters for thier “all republicans are twisted morons”

You are all godamned lucky that third parties are impossible in this country– otherwise you would be relegated to the dustbin of history. As it is, you are destroying America.

Mr. Johnson, never heard of you before this brilliant incisive, fact-filled commentary. Please don’t stop writing and commenting. As incompetent as my party is, if this is the best your kind has to offer, we should hold the reins of power for another 20 years or so, easily. (Americans like for the adults to be in charge. Check the election results for the last couple of decades for proof.)

By the way you really ought to give some thought to allowing the brighest of your supporters to guestblog: taters, cowboyneok, Tim, etc. Also encourage them to get active in local politics. Please let them be seen and heard.

I am so coming back here after the midterms. Should be a hoot.

  • ChiChe

I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a look of misery and dejection on the face of my parakeet as I just did a moment ago.

She seemed like she just couldn’t understand why the President would be going to Iraq when so many things are wrong in this country. With each chirp I could hear “Doesn’t Mr. Bush care about us anymore?”. Each chirp was more pitiable than the last.

I offered my finger and took her out of the doorless birdcage and sat down with her on the sofa and (as calmly as I could) tried to explain to her why the President seems to be abandoning his country.

“RainbowTweetie, I think his boss, Mr. Rove, sent Mr. Bush out of the country in order to keep himself out of the newspapers. You see, he wasn’t sure if he was going to be arrested today or not, and so he planned Mr. Bush’s trip ahead of time just in case…”

I tried to keep my voice steady, but it became increasingly difficult – the rage and feelings of helplessness were just too much. I think my animal companion could tell something was wrong.

I found myself at such a loss for words – nothing made any sense; nothing makes sense anymore. I finally had to admit, “RainbowTweetie, I just don’t know – I don’t know what’s going on in this country anymore…”

When I finished her lower beak started to tremble and her eyes began to tilt to one side, perhaps with tears, I don’t know if birds have tear glands.

She chirped at me as if to say: “Daddy, why are the Republicans doing this to the country?” But maybe she wanted a seed.

Well, that was it for me: I finally fell apart.

She just flew up onto my shoulders and we both began sobbing and chirping for several minutes.

For once RainbowTweetie had to comfort me and get me back on my feet.

Sometimes I just think it’s too much, but seeing the strength in my animal companion’s helped me to get through.

Judging from news reports and the portrayal of villains in our popular entertainment, Americans are bedeviled by fantasies about terrorism. They seem to believe that terrorism is the greatest threat to the United States and that it is becoming more widespread and lethal. They are likely to think that the United States is the most popular target of terrorists. And they almost certainly have the impression that extremist Islamic groups cause most terrorism.

“None of these beliefs are based in fact. … While terrorism is not vanquished, in a world where thousands of nuclear warheads are still aimed across the continents, terrorism is not the biggest security challenge confronting the United States, and it should not be portrayed that way

Oh, all the Freepers and the wingers and the GOP-ers are all in a twist over some mean words……That evil Larry Johnson “attacked” poor, plump, bald, bespectacled Karl Rove who’s mother committed suicide. Doesn’t Larry Johnson know about the “Conservative Law of Untouchability”? Conservatives can attack anyone for anything but, if the persons being attacked return with the same amount of fire…well then the conservatives scream and gnash teeth and bemoan those “mean liberals” who do nothing but attack.

See, Ann Coulter was just being ‘Twainian’ when she recommended that the NYTimes be blown up, when she recommended that Clinton be shot, when she said that Judge Stevens should be poisoned, when she recommended genocide in the Muslim world. We are told that we must ignore the ad hominem attacks and focus on the larger issue. That the left uses “victims” to push their causes.

See, Republicans can do that, it’s their right.

But, God forbid, Michael Moore should ask some tough questions from Charlton Heston. Nope, then the right wing goes into a frantic tizzy—”Michael Moore attacked an old man!” Nothing about he larger question of Heston’s support for cop-killing bullets.

Suddenly the “large question” is moot. The wingers focus on the “elderly victim status” of Heston.

Ask some tough questions of Judge Alito and when his wife breaks down into tears—”The Democrats made a woman cry!” Nope no discussion about “larger points” in regards to Judge Alito.(The Judge who just voted to increase the size of BIG GOVERNMENT by allowing police officers to barge into peoples houses unannounced).

Even Tony Snow. The Republicans place a cancer survivor in the spokesmand position who breaks down into tears on his first day on the job…..That “humanizes” him. Of course the “Coulter Rule” must be applied and the liberals can’t attack Tony Snow because his is a victim of cancer.

Fuck Karl Rove and I bet his mother would be ashamed of him. Frankly I never saw a presidents assistant “enjoy” the fact that his mother committed suicide more than Karl Rove. He seems happy about it….He has made money too….Lot’s of money…

I think this says all there is to say about Mr. Johnson’s “expertise”:

Judging from news reports and the portrayal of villains in our popular entertainment, Americans are bedeviled by fantasies about terrorism. They seem to believe that terrorism is the greatest threat to the United States and that it is becoming more widespread and lethal. They are likely to think that the United States is the most popular target of terrorists. And they almost certainly have the impression that extremist Islamic groups cause most terrorism.

–Larry C. Johnson, “The Declining Terrorist Threat,” New York Times, July 10, 2001. Johnson, a former CIA officer, was deputy director of the U.S. State Department’s Office of Counterterrorism from 1989 to 1993.

—That evil Larry Johnson “attacked” poor, plump, bald, bespectacled Karl Rove who’s mother committed suicide—

Apparently you are unclear of the meaning “attack” but HighBrow Larry didn’t attack Rove…HighBrow Larry invoked the death of a parent to sit in lieu of a vacant argument…

    he said:

–Karl is a shameless bastard. Small wonder his mother killed herself. Once she discovered what a despicable soul she had spawned she apparently saw no other way out. —

BEFORE he edited. Why did he edit it if it was a “Fair game Attack”?

    RESPONSE FROM LARRY JOHNSON:

I STARTED DRAFTING THE POST THAT HAS SENT THE CRAZIES INTO A TIZZY AT TAMPA’S INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. UNFORTUNATELY, THE TYPEPAD SOFTWARE DIDN’T GIVE ME A GOOD OPTION TO SAVE THE INITIAL PART OF MY POST. WHEN I ARRIVED HOME IN WASHINGTON THREE HOURS LATER I SAT DOWN, EDITED, AND FINISHED THE POST. OF COURSE, FOR THESE SLOPE HEADED, RIGHTWING NEANDERTHALS, THAT IS A CONCEPT PROBABLY TOO SOPHISTICATED TO GRASP.

  • http://blogs.oc.edu/ee/?/dlovejoy/index Dan

That may very well be the most evil post I have ever read on a blog. It’s the kind of post that would get you banned from such reasonable and balanced outlets as DailyKos.

I can’t even imagine what’s going on in your mind. It seems to me that if you are not a psychopath, you are feeling very, very ashamed right now.

I do wish you the best and hope that no tragedy of this scale ever befalls you.

How very, very unhappy you must be.

  • Ghost form the past…

wow larry, since 4 years at the CIA makes you a self proclaimed expert at all things CIA, maybe you could try spending 4 years as a human being and come back to report on what it is like. After that you could even write a book on how you were able to evolve from a maggot.

  • LeftCoast-er

Man. I just spent a half-hour reading the comments on here.

And most of the comments read like drunk high-school football jocks that found the kid in History class that made them look dumb by calling out the fact that they all copied from each other on their last essay test.

Really though… for all the outraged vitriol aimed at Mr. Johnson, there are seem to be very few meaningful posts. I get the impression that there is some sort of membership requirement for rightwing blog sites: you have to post so-many negative comments to a “lefty” blog in order to recieve your daily kool-aid.

Oh yes, some other annoymous name screams “shame shame” into the digital wilderness. So angsty, so angry.

I’m glad the republican faithful shout talking points so methodically. Honestly, I am. While I pity these people for not thinking for themselves, and not generating their own insults, I am glad they repeat the same things over and over again as it makes it easy to identify them. They parrot the same insults their talking heads provide.

In effect, they nickname the opposition, because once they have named it something pejorative or derogatory they fool themselves into thinking the opposition isn’t human. Why do racial slurs exist? So the people that use the slurs do not have to consider the object of the slur human. Labeling someone something other than their name means changing how you perceive them: more than human or less than human.

I for one disregard any comment that fails to note the conditional attached to the suicide comment. The word “could” is what I am referring to. As for the statement that drums up the most invective, the “Once his mother discovered” bit: I can understand why some people want to take offense at that. HOWEVER, considering it is offered as further explanation of the “could explain” sentance I think people are reading their own meaning into Mr’s Johnson’s post, and are thus attacking him for the wrong reasons… and from reading some of the comments so far, feeling pretty smug in mis-interpreting Mr. Jonson’s words.

Good luck to everyone. Some need it more than others.

  • Mr.Murder

Karl Rove attacked the mother of Joe Wilson’s children by saying she was “Fair Game” and outing her NOC status.

I think we’re all missing the point.

Repugnicans in their everlasting quest for “fairness”, and to rebut the Democrats who are calling Coulter out on her slander, will find any quote by anyone to the left of where they stand and attempt to make a false equivalence in order to prove some point.

What they fail to grasp (or acknowledge) is that while Johnson was speaking to a partisan crowd, Coulter is routinely granted NATIONAL MSM AIR TIME to spew her bile.

    Keep it up Larry!

I find it hard to believe the number of halfwits out there that are protecting this administration and working so hard to smear you.

They can’t all be different individuals, it sounds too much like an orchestrated campaign to shut you up and discredit you in any way possible.

    WE KNOW WHAT THEY’RE DOING!

Ordinary Americans are fed up with all of this administrations lies, and we need people like you to keep shining a light on them.

    THANKS!

  • Gypsy

I suspect so many of those coments from enraged republicans were fake outrage anyway. They routinely say worst than that. They are playground bullies. We will have to be able to stand up to them if we want to win. They try to shut us up by calling us unpatriotic. They really miss the whole point in America with their Flag burning amendments. While they protect the flag they burn the Constitution. They are thugs so ignore them and go back to the original points of Larry’s post. I strongly suspect that many of them have never even been to this sight but when this post came out it gave them a chance to jump on someone else who doesn’t believe in their lies anymore.

If you defend Karl Rove then you embrace dictatorship. Rove is a rude vile pig who would lick the boots of Hitler if it meant keeping his power. Fortunately all despots come crashing down eventually and Herr Rove will crash and burn and hopefully spend the rest of his days in jail for treason to the people of this country. Larry, I understand your frustration. It’s our country we are talking about; a country many of us have served in various ways because we are patriotic. Patriotic, how corny is that? We deeply believe in what our country is supposed to stand for, should stand for, only to see our beliefs trampled by greed and ignorance and disrespect for human life and so much more.

The self-righteous who are condemning you here, are spouting much more “considered” vitriol than you did in your remark about Rove’s Mother. Only the Republicans are allowed to smear, feel obligated to smear, make a profession of smears, get into office with smears. Their rules of the game. Don’t let the bds get to you. You are more right (excuse me) than any of your detractors here.

My mantra is that we have to shout loud and long about what the Republicans have done and are doing to this country. Representative Murtha is showing us the way and he’s being villified for clearly speaking the truth about the villainy of the Iraq war.

Those who have taken umbrage at your remark about a sad death, see nothing wrong with their hero and his gang sending thousands of our citizens and Iraqi citizens to their death. Their sicko leaders just voted for us to keep on doing it.

Let me say it, too. Rove is a wretch who should never have drawn a breath or seen the light of day. Never.

I say, give them hell, and more hell. You have my back.

This blog is a dime-a-dozen moonbat shithole.

The guy who runs it can’t even engage his commenters in support of his mean-spirited posts.

You’re angry Larry, we all get that. But so is most of the rest of the liberal blogosphere. What sets YOU apart? Your ideas are no more thoughtful, engaging, or insightful than Democratic Underground. You’re a poor man’s Duncan Black (and that’s POOR). The only impression I walk away with from experiencing your opinion, is that I shudder to imagine there are more people like you inside our intelligence apparatus. You and your buddies Val and Joe don’t give a shining shit about this country or its citizens.

Who knows how much you personally benefitted from your employment at the CIA; it may be why you’re no longer there. But it’s a good thing you’re gone now, only to be allowed to spout your insulting, rude, unscrupulous posts about government employees and their elected bosses. Let’s hope that Mr. Hayden is successful in finding more like you and sending them to the blogosphere to amp up the Angry Left, and give Republicans more votes.

  • KarlsBigBrother

You sent 2 messages to mine@2know.com. Gawwwd. Now we know why the “intelligence” agency let you go. What – when you got the first message back that said “no such address” you thought you’d try again? Man – you are so bright.

Lary….those damn hackers have done it again! Now they have broken into your website and altered your biography…removing all references to the time you served in the military. I mean…you would have had to have served to call others “chicken hawks” right? Sure, there were those four years as a low level analyst in Langley..but that doesn’t count. And the hackers changed your bio inserting the phrase: “while working on a Ph.D. in political science” to give the impression that you were trying to mislead people into thinking you actually HAD a PHD. These hackers must be stopped…they probably submitted that OPED in your name too where someone, claiming to be you, before 9/11, said Bin Laden was no threat. Damn these guys are evil.

  • Left Coast-er

Lump and smear. Lump and smear.

In truth, there were few right-leaning responses on this comments log that even came close to original dialogue.

I suppose I should expect that the right, instead of attempting to engage the Left in a sweeping debate of issues, would rather resort to attacks, threats, name-calling, and character assassination. I’d like to hope that rational discourse might have a chance in this, obviously, important discussion of the state of our nation.

Chew on this: The Left side of the political spectrum is labeled as “angry” by the right. They say 1. we are angry at Bush because he won. 2. We’re angry at United States congress because they’re republican controlled. 3. They say we’re angry at the War on Terror(tm) because we hate America.

Now think. Who paraphrases our words to meet their simple definitions? Who simplifies the rhetoric of the Left to fit their stereotypes? It is the mouthpieces on the right that pigeonhole the Left.

    1. I say the Left is angry at Bush becuase of his disregard for the laws of our nation. I say we’re angry at the way he tramples the rights of citizens. We’re angry at the way he and his administration conduct themselves. We on the left are Angry not at Bush the person, as the right would contend, but we are Angry with the way that Bush conducts himself.

    2. I say the Left is disenchanted with Congress for the inability to hold the president in check, for their willingness to do nothing about the current situation, and their inability to listen to the desires of the nation. The Left is angry with Congress for the way its members have conducted themselves. The Left is appalled by the graft and corruption we see… on both sides. The Left is angry with the inappropriate lobbying, the pork barrel bills, the industry sponsored legislation, the junkets, the excess, the focus on everything except what the people care about. The Left is angry with juvenile rules games, the “gotcha” votes, and the political grand-standing. I say the Left sees congress as a group of elected officials that care less about the nation and its governence than they do about the size of their re-election fund.

    3. I say the Left is angry with the “War on Terror(tm)” because the premise of making war on an ideology is ludicrous. I say the Left is angry and the inappropriate nature of the way the “war” was planned, executed, and spun. We do not believe for a second that the shifting reasons that the right give for invading Iraq justifies the: mountian of problems that lay ahead with the occupation, the billions of dollars that disappear to corrupt persons and companies without oversight, but most importantly… the Left is outraged at the callous disregard the adminitration demonstrates toward our armed services. By placing our soldiers in harms way without adequate planning or support, this administration displays the disregard for human life that allows a chickenhawk to crow for war. It is a SUPREME credit to our armed forces that they have survived and excelled as long as they have with the type of leadership that Bush’s administration puts out. Considering the logistical foul-ups the pressure they are under, the occupation they enforce, the rejection by the residents, and the mixed messages of praise and condemnation they receive on a daily basis.

Hell, if anyone in this nation didn’t have respect for the jobs that our military are capabel of, this misplanned operation should be a turning point for opinions. Given the inept intelligence (hand picked by Cheney’s special office, not through normal channels), and the lack of clear purpose or exist strategy, I for one hold the ability of our armed forces in the highest regards.

Rove, rove is an aberration. The ease in which he rips into democractic figures and into liberal ideas… the absolute ability to set aside the humanity of the opposition and then rip their throat out reminds me more of a pit bull trained for dog fights more than a political consultant.

If character assassination through metaphor, similes, and innuendo is the new method of political discourse, then Karl Rove has that game all sewn up.

Ack… I’ve said enough in this post.

  • Sue

==========I suppose I should expect that the right, instead of attempting to engage the Left in a sweeping debate of issues, would rather resort to attacks, threats, name-calling, and character assassination. The gloves have finally come off – your frustration level shows with the comments about Karl’s mom. But you know what, he’s not used to being on the receiving end of smears like that and maybe that might just wake him up. He has never minded smearing anyone else. I just finished reading Seixon’s smackdown of Johnson. It seems that Larry’s been absent from his blog for awhile today, and it’s possible that he’s wallowing in shame over what he wrote and the justifiable pushback he’s receiviing for it. Hey Larry. :)

You said what you had to say. I know you don’t enjoy it. Thank you.

Don’t let the moronic ignoramuses above deter you m8. (And no, I don’t mean *everyone* above).

My mother tried to suicide because of my gutless father (who, like Bush, dodged national Service) and was institutionalised for awhile *for her own protection* of course. My father, may he rot in hell forever, laughed and got nothing but a *good talking to*! So, I understand all too well what can drive a woman to suicide. And I knew my mother very well. If I had turned out anything like Rove, she would have had two very good reasons, though she probably would have taken me with her! She would have seen me as a problem she created, and taken care of it herself. :) Can’t say as I would have blamed her! She was raised in England as a farmers daughter and spent time in WW2 in the WRNS. It took my bastard father almost 30 years to drive her to the point where she lost all hope, and the fact she was quite ill at the time, was the last straw. She was a very strong woman, but everyone has their braking point. I actually came to understand my father (though, to understand does not mean like). Many cowards become bullies, it’s a kind of twisted self-defence thing. I suppose, in a way, I suppose I might thank my father for helping me understand Bush and his mindless minions. :)

That’s the kind of World we currently live in, and it has been made even worse thanks to the vain, selfish, greedy and evil people like Bush and his mindless worshippers. At least the Satanists know why they Worship Satan. Bush’s mindless followers only get self-gratification, and possibly self-flagellation. I am sure Bush, Chaney, Rice, Rove etc are all laughing hysterically at them all. :) I know I am. LOL

Well done Larry. Thanks for trying to keep these bastards honest! And, unlike the mindless Bushlovers above, I understand what you actually said in your post. They have too many Bush/Rove created filters behind the eyes to understand what you wrote.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a look of misery and dejection on the face of my daughter as I just did a moment ago.

She just couldn’t understand why someone like Karl Rove could be so evil that his Mommy killed herself. “How could he be so mean to Mr Kerry and his Magic Hat?” she asked pitifully.

I sat down with her on the sofa and (as calmly as I could) tried to explain to her that Karl Rove’s lizardoid minions are all like that, the spawn of Satan and the Evil Zionists.

I tried to keep my voice steady, but it became increasingly difficult – the rage and feelings of helplessness were just too much. I think my daughter could tell something was wrong. I found myself at such a loss for words – nothing made any sense; nothing makes sense anymore. I finally had to admit, “Honey, I just don’t know – I don’t know what’s going on in this country anymore…”

When I finished her lower lip started to tremble and her eyes began to fill with tears, “Daddy” she said, “why are the Republicans doing this to the country?” Well, that was it for me: I finally fell apart. She just fell into my arms and we both began sobbing for several minutes.

For once she had to comfort me and get me back on my feet. Sometimes I just think it’s too much, but seeing the strength in my young daughter’s voice helped me to get through.

  • Mr.Murder

Maybe Rove visited the Republican phone jamming operative while he was in New Hampshire, since the guy helped him jam phones on election day and during primaries… he could give Rove advice on what to say his first day behind bars to pass time and lighten the conversation when someone tells that bitch to hand over his smokes.

  • Mr.Murder

Larry, you know the latest cheap trick, trying to claim a bombed out place that was looted by Iraqi security, then was interceded after, then before, then before and after by spec ops, then had documents a general said were from a previous ‘secure location’ that seem to paint a rosy picture of insurgent desperation all seem to have the lipstick on pig marks of Rove.

It all matches Bush’s trip to Baghdad and the puff pieces written in appreciation of that one point poll bounce.

Somehow he had troves of documents readily interpreted when Bush has cut funding for that and we were already low in that capacity before his lifestyle purge.

Don’t ask the media and they don’t tell you the truth as usual?
Still Rove takes a bully pulpit to fund raise and continue his absurd, corrupt poisoning of a neocon (im)morality play.

  • Karl

I think Rove got his hands on a Zionist mind control ray, and poor Larry has been the butt (Leopold was the nuts) of an evil satanic Rovian practical joke.

Check out this article at WaPo. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/16/AR2006061601754.html
Here are a few select quotes:

    BEGIN WAPO QUOTE
The May 13 story on the Web site Truthout.org was explosive: Presidential adviser Karl Rove had been indicted by Special Counsel Patrick J. Fitzgerald in connection with his role in leaking CIA officer Valerie Plame’s name to the media, it blared. The report set off hysteria on the Internet, and the mainstream media scrambled to nail it down. Only . . . it wasn’t true.

    ~snip~

In his nine-year reporting career, Leopold has managed, despite his drug abuse and a run-in with the law, to work with such big-time news organizations as the Los Angeles Times, Dow Jones Newswire and Salon. He broke some bona fide stories on the Enron scandal and the CIA leak investigation. But in every job, something always went wrong, and he got the sack. Finally, he landed at Truthout, a left-leaning Web site.

    ~snip~

Leopold says he gets the same rush from breaking a news story that he did from snorting cocaine. To get coke, he lied, cheated and stole. To get his scoops, he has done much the same. As long as it isn’t illegal, he told me, he’ll do whatever it takes to get a story, especially to nail a corrupt politician or businessman. “A scoop is a scoop,” he trumpets in his memoir. “Other journalists all whine about ethics, but that’s a load of crap.”
    END WAPO QUOTE

Yep….ethics is a load of crap to some of these guys. Read the article if you have the guts. It is written by Joe Lauria – the reporter that Leopold impersonated when he called Corallo. Such slime.

Kinda fits in here though – seeing the lack of ethics shown by our…well….esteemed host is not the right word – not sure what to call him – maybe “chubbee wannabee who thinks he’s kewl in sunglasses”. What would your mother think Larry?

    Hey Larry,

Speaking of ‘having your back’ or ‘you have her back’ whichever way it was intended, can you tell me something I’ve wondered ever since I stumbled into your fantasy world? A simple question really, easily answered. Why do your friends hate you? I say that with a touch of sadness, you see, because if my friend had used a picture of himself that was, first off, not very flattering (I’ve seen others of you, and would have chosen a different one for you, one that didn’t make you look, well, like a dork) but secondly and more to the point, the symbolism of the picture you chose is where my original question comes in. Why do your friends hate you? Why didn’t they tell you that picture makes it abundantly clear you are on the outside looking in? Standing outside the WH. Never to be on the inside?

Of course, it’s none of my business, and I’m being cheeky again, a habit I can’t seem to break, but well, there it is.

Sue, I have one question for you. If you don’t like Larry and don’t believe what he writes in his “fantasy world” why are you on his site day in day out desperately trying to get him to respond to you, to listen to you, to like you? Johnson recycled both the “draft dodger” theme run by DailyKos, and the “porcine” comments run by a Kerry stooge. Does Johnson have ANY original thoughts?? How does that NOT make you a partisan hack Larry? Passing off Democratic talking points as your own? Sheesh.

I bet if we collected the emails he has sent to people that show this pattern– it would be a very nice window into Larry’s state of mind.

He’s also not very good at answering questions. And there are so many that Larry could answer!

For example–just what is Larry’s relationship with the editors/writers at Truth Out? Does he know who pays for “Truth Out”? Has he been an anonymous source for David Shuster? Waas? Anyone else in the MSM? Is he getting paid for any of his pro-Wilson activity–and if so, by Whom?

    That’s good for a start.

Since Larry is so concerned with the TRUTH–I’m sure he has absolutely nothing to hide.

“Its too bad she didn’t do it sooner.”

As long as you “care” about people, its okay to say mean-spirited, despicable, shameless things….though for some reason, if a Republican were to say that Bill Clinton’s mother should have committed suicide, we would no doubt hear the howls of rage about how this “proves” the savage nature of the right. I also suspect that any defenders of this odious statements would find saying “Osama bin Laden/Fidel Castro/Abu al-Zarqawi/Mao Zedong’s mother should have killed herself before he was born” to be offensive and bloodthirsty.

How dare we question Kerry’s patriotism? Fuck, I will. Yeah, he joined up. Yeah, he got hurt. I won’t question that.

What I will question is his record since his service. He took the word of lying fucking scumbags and used those lies to smear our troops in front of congress while he cries crocodile tears showing his “concern” for them. Fuck John Kerry.

Fuck Murtha too. He’s no longer a patriot. His “concern” for the troops as accuses them of “cold blooded murder” in front of the press. He only had the propaganda of a ‘young’ 43 year old “journalist”. He didn’t even bother to hear the Marines’ side of the story. Fuck Jack Murhta.

Lastly, Fuck you Larry. You are spinning lies for your own agenda. Just because you are against this war doesn’t mean your lies are above reproach. Quit blowing fog out your ass. Fuck you.

Perhaps someday you will be faced with the sorrow caused by an event such as suicide. I only hope that you can recognize before then what a disgusting and sick comment you made referencing Karl Rove’s mother. Regardless of what anyone thinks of Rove himself, such comments about his family are disgustingly out of line.

    You disgust me.

  • SL Aronovitz

Honor in rhetoric does not exist for Karl Rove and his ilk. I distincty remember how McCain was smeared by Rove; questioning his mentality becuase of his wartime imprisonment, and the possibility that he sired a ‘black’ daughter out of wedlock. Sickening. We have Republican pundits calling for the extermination of certain political ideals and followers, yet WE have to play nice? Screw that.

Why should those who oppose the Bush Regime be held to a higher standard than those who support it? If you Republicans can’t take it, then don’t dish it out. Maybe Republicans are a bunch of whiny pussies afterall. That explains how ‘hurt’ they become.

This thread is becoming something like the Whitehouse right now. ‘Mud slinging at semantics’.

Gypsy summed things up way earlier. This was a “post of passion” by a man mad as hell with the way thing are, because its not the way things should be and certain nasty idividuals are sitting back smug as hell. They deserve their mothers potentially slandered. Although, if all you good Christians who made such a fuss of the ‘inappropriate’ analagy, do you really care about Rove’s mum? Care enough to find out why she committed suicide, find out her acheivements, visit her grave to pay her your respects? I think not you damned ungodly hypocrits. So now I’m mad as hell. Shut the fuck up about Rove’s mum. Where was I….ahh yes, call it Larry’s ‘falling down’ moment.

Again, I must point out Gypsy, as you clearly haven’t been keeping up with the times (everyone can be forgiven for that). Those with cool heads are not looking for Osama in connection with 911, as Osama had nothing to do with it. In fact prosperity WILL reveal that your beloved American government had more to do with 911 (the american rescue call that backfired) than Osama. Who is going to go after them. That is the question. That is the trillion dollar question.

There seem to be two sides emerging on this thread. One is the side who cannot actually find any response in line with the thread but instead attack the use of wording in a metaphor. I guess we can only summise that they don’t know what a metaphor is as their schooling was littered with truancy. Worryingly, these people want the World a pile of irradiated rubble unfit for human habitation. None feel they possess a soul and couldn’t possibly be judged. They are ALL in for a big shock when they leave this World.

The other side of this thread may also be offended by the choice of words but acknowlege the words were used only to imply the essence of detestation. Were your own mother to end her life to be rid of you. Well I would say that must be the epitomy of detestation. The people on this side of the thread know they have souls and fear ultimate judgement and know the importance of keeping the World safe for human comsumption.

Simply put. It is the destroyers versus the protectors. Hmmmm, I wonder who will win!!!

Non of the Plamegate blogs are comming out and saying it directly, but there is a sense of bafflement concerning the non-indictment of Rove. What is hinted at, vaguely, is that the only reason for this has to be that Rove gave up a ton of docs and info about someone else. The question now is who is that someone else and is he/she prosecutable.

I saw your speech at YearlyKos and my brother, an ex-air force guy, was sitting next to me. He said you were the best speaker because you put the whole story in the context it needed to go in: it’s not about Wilson or Plame, it’s about the network that had to be rolled up from Brewster Jennings and the agents that may have lost their lives.

Larry, when you talk, I listen very closely. Keep at it.

William: ‘you get a better choice where to go and what you want to be if you “join up”. Our guys and gals now volunteer. Leave them alone and let them live their lives as they see fit.’

I guess from the outside, looking in, especially thru rose colored glasses, one might think that this might be true. Sad fact, as most who have served know, once you sign on the dotted line, you are at the mercy of the powers that be, and will be used and expended as ‘the number that you are’, at least in the minds of those who could care less why a person joined in the first place.

Four of my children serve this country in the military. I know hundreds more, who although they volunteered, did so to protect and defend THIS nation. Not some ideological belief of a few war-mongers. I agree with the last part of your statement… Let them alone and let them live their lives as they see fit… Does that mean that because they volunteered, and were lied to, that those who disagree with the Cabal, should be able to resign? That would be so nice… Perhaps there will be a great influx of ‘new volunteers’ to replace those who disagree with the reasons they were given as to why we are at ‘war’ for an ideology that can not be won… I won’t hold my breath.

You make certain decisions in life. If you know the rules before you sign up and agree with them it doesn’t matter what reason or for what reason you have to go to war. The boss says go and you go. Lies or truth has nothing to do with it. you can get killed either way. War is war and that is what they signed up for you have to believe. If you made a poor decision about signing up shame on you. Now you have to wait out your term. • WT

    John W,

If they are in a fox hole with you then you all must have passed training my friend. I would hope none of you would be running.

  • WT

    John W,
I am the same vintage as Karl and Dick. We were in college with deferments. That’s not an excuse it was reality. If you were not in school you got drafted or you ran down and signed up like Kerry did to avoid being drafted. I don’t lnow about Murtha except to say that age has mellowed the man and he probably has children now and before it was just him as a young man enlisting on his own. That doesn’t make them any more brave, couragous, or valient then Karl or Dick.

    FROM LARRY JOHNSON:

Nothing has ever been learned from success. “The only source of knowledge is experience” Albert E.

When you take on new challanges such as this war, which is entirely new since you can’t tell one sand person from another and they wear no uniforms, you are bound to make mistakes. Trust that the mistakes are not recurrent. We have gained so more knowledge from fighting this battle than we could have ever gleaned from intelligence.

  • http://spaces.msn.com/mpumpky/PersonalSpace.aspx?_c02_owner=1 PrchrLady

WT: “We have gained so more knowledge from fighting this battle than we could have ever gleaned from intelligence.”

Really, how would you know this? Actually, if we study the intelligence that was provided before the war, I believe that the sum of the reports (or at least those that were thrown aside because they did not support the ‘plan’) are proving to be hauntingly correct. We have not ‘improved’ on the regime of Saddam, only succeeded in replacing one dictator with a faux government which is held in power by the lies of this administration.

Stay the Course? What course??? They should have left well enough alone and kept our troops here in the states to protect the people of this country from the neocons who have taken control of the US, and are destroying the Constitution.

  • Patrick Henry

Stay the course appears to really mean ..Keep our military in Iraq and the middle east as long as it takes for the Neo Cons..to carry out thier Long Term..Long Range PLAN..

    Called…OPERATION SCREWUP..

or what ever Secret code name they came up with in thier Secret board room while Planning this War and Occupation..

Had to be “Operation Bush’ something…since this was to be his “Legacy”

Remember…GWB says future Presidents will have to Come up with the “solutions”..

President Bush & Co…just set it all in Motion..

Any Immediate Troop Pullouts or Withdrawl is just not in the Plans..

There are many ways we will continue to Occupy Iraq..

Maintain a Military Presence…and Have Our Nose in every Middle east issue and EVENT that Develops..in the Entire Region..

just think of all the Potential Events that have been set in Motion and are Developing..

PrchrLady, Please thank your kids for their service. You of all people have earned the right to complain about this administration. During WWII my Grandmother had 4 sons in the military at once. My Father landed at Omaha Beach on D Day. The kind of courage it must have taken for him to jump from the landing barge is beyond me and most of these right wing nuts. When you ask most of them who are so pro war why aren’t they in there fighting they have lots of excuses how they can serve better here. Well what are they serving? They are serving as appologist for this administration.

I have nothing but respect for our Soldiers. They are the ones bleeding here not Rove or Cheney or Bush. The problem is most of our Soldiers signed up to fight for America not Iraq. Where is Bin Laden? Well according to Bush he just doesn’t think too much about him, doesn’t spend much time on him. Why is that? If I were President I would not rest until I turned him over for what he has done to my country. But then this is more about making money and controlling the resources of Iraq for Bush. 9-11 was always just the best excuse for going into Iraq from the first day for the neocons.
That is what makes me sad. They have put all our wonderful Soldiers into a mess for idealogical reasons. Now don’t they at least deserve a substantive debate by serious people about the best way to get out of Iraq with honor? Maybe the longer we stay the more we loose this war. That is where this debate should be, not about whether I am a patriot if I am against the administration.

  • Whazthefuzz?

How in the world did we come to this? Next thing you know, we’ll be actually bashing each other’s brains in. Larry, really bad taste. Karl, I’m sorry about your mother. I’m even sorrier that you have a position of influence in this country. You have helped bring the level of discourse down to the level that is on this site. Truly disgusting on everyone’s part. And George Bush could do a lot to discourage this type of thing…denounce Ann Coulter for one. But I suppose it is much easier to be angry and hateful – each side to the other – than to try to find solutions to our common problems. We’re all gonna end up in Katrina Land if we don’t stop hating each other so much. Shame on everyone.

William Taylor you know Murtha had service already under his belt and met his obligation, he signed right back up for the ‘Nam anyways.

You act like Kerry was “going there anyways’ too.

What part of forward flight deck on an aircraft carrier and crew commander for a patron don’t you get there?

You’re not entitled to a version of history that doesn’t match the efforts past due diligence these two men took. They were true believers who put their ass on the line.

You might not like either of them speaking the truth about the seeming meaningless of this war or the other one, respectively.

Kissinger told the Chinese that the commies could have Viet Nam but we spent three more years there.

What kind of sellout for service and the purpose of this mission have the neocons pulled this time?

I have the feeling they want a new ‘Nam to develop there- low wage borderline communism and strict order placed over the business infrastructure that develops.

In essence, an open bid market with a closed society that lets the intercine bodies of belief squabble over things whilst someone else powerbrokes the big money.

You realize that Iraq’s Christianity is older than even Israel’s by proxie? Jesus’ mother came from Assyria and he was closer to her than Joseph if you read into almost any body of faith. Her faith was developed within the region we now bomb and psyop the refugees for because of other terror we helped create there with war.

That Coptic faith is becoming an illegalform of worship in the new Iraq- mission accomplished.

  • John W

I too, was of that same era as Kerry, Murtha, Rove and Cheney and the only way to avoid Vietnam was not to volunteer when facing the draft ( this just let you pick your service, both Kerry and Murtha made the Vietnam trip ), but to run to Canada or join a National Guard Unit. Sound familiar.

  • Thinker

On this point I have to paradoxically (is that a word?) disagree with many if not all of you.

I see a degree of US patriotic arrogance creeping in on most sides of this thread now. Which, I must say, I am personally glad has disguarded the ‘buffoons’ in the main (Susan Nunes, get a life!). PrchrLady made an impressive and dignified stand, as always & certainly my comments are not targeted at anything you have written.

    Let me summarise:

There seems to have been a generally expectation (based on the 1st Iraq ‘war’) that American soldiers could potentially go in and annihilate the Iraqi opposition without loss of life in their second invasion of Iraq. Considering most of the loss of life was from “friendly fire” incidents in the first invasion. Considering that Iraqi technology had theoretically gone substantially backwards between the period 1991-2001 and the US technology had advanced beyond expectation. The general feeling was and I spoke to a number of Americans before the 2nd invasion and the general feeling was, well ‘turkey shoot’ comes to mind. That expresses it well. The Iraqis being the Turkeys of course.

That was, is and probably will be the real problem. American arrogance. I mean the only reason the invasion took place is the establishment believed it could pulverise the Iraqis into submission. But, in reality the only solution is wanton, en masse, indisciminate total destruction of human life. You see if you destroy absolutely everyone, then you kill the terrorist. You miss one out, let one go. Well that could be your terrorist.

The reason, I feel, there is so much acrimony here about ‘our boys’ is all sides of the debate are beginning to realise that this war (which is what it is now) is not a carte blanche US expropriation of superiority, but rather an even race. Genocide and annihilation are out of the question as everyone loses, but to actually “win” is going to require massive sacrifice on both sides.

So to be fair to the Bush and the “Repulican spirit”, I don’t think that the Dem’s will do anything different now. Even the success of a ‘more forceful’ invasion is debatable. For I believe the Iraqis were “laying in wait” and the conventional standing up to the US forces was more of a PR excercise than anything else.

So to be brutally clear, any soldier who signs up on active duty should EXPECT to die. Living is a bonus. When one drop of blood is shed beyond those who have been designated as their country’s defenders, then all wearing uniform become cold blooded murderers. Lest we not forget, one civilian death in honour of an invasion places an entire nation on death row.

  • kim

Look, when the UN fails at its mandate of civil global order, the functioning democracies have to step in. Who’d have it any other way?

    What is ‘global order’?

Is it o.k. to break International law if no-one can stop you?

Is America a member of the United Nations sworn to uphold its mandate?
