[Video Update] Chris Matthews’ Clinging Tingling For Obama Nearly “Official” — Then There’s Olbermann’s Blatant Sexism

Turns out that Chris Matthews’ leg-tingling* that he discussed recently on MSNBC’s Hardball — aired on a network so blatantly pro-Obama that we all call it MSNBO these days — is not due to restless leg syndrome. It’s a far more serious mental obsessive-compulsive condition that has disabled his ability to be neutral when discussing Obama. Numerous reports confirm this exchange before a Harvard Crimson audience:

Praising Barack Obama throughout his speech, Matthews said the Illinois Democrat is a symbol of the positive change that he believe the country needs. [...]

When asked by another audience member how he would respond to the claim that MSNBC officially supports Obama, Matthews responded with typical Hardball wit, “Well, it’s not official.”

So it’s “not official.” But it’s sure clear as day to all of us who used to watch MSNBC (except for Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanan, of whom we’ve all become very fond for his sharp, objective insights and encyclopedic knowledge of political history). And you can take it to the bank, as they say, that MSNBO will not cover the Indiana illegal polling place activity today by Obama supporters, or the North Carolina Obama field coordinator urging his volunteers to call in sick and lie to their bosses.

Only the stories that help their “Chosen One” will be covered. And when Hillary must be mentioned, she is described, for example, by Andrea Mitchell as looking “wistful” this morning. Or Clinton’s outreach to bluecollar voters is characterized, again by Mitchell, as transforming herself (i.e., adopting a false persona) into the “working-class heroine.” Asks Mitchell, “Is this makeover authentic to voters?” Whatever the description, the MSNBC tactic is intended to denigrate Hillary. (And I’m sure you readers can provide countless more examples of MSNBO’s blatant tactics, with the exceptions of the more reality-based Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanan.)

Here’s a sampling of KEITH OLBERMANN’s anti-Hillary snarky sexism on Monday’s MSNBC Countdown (May 5, 2008), via Raw Story:

“We decided to prepare for tomorrows potential new re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-definition by compiling the guidelines offered so far,” Olbermann said on Monday’s show. “By the time we finished, it seems the only yardstick they had not yet offered was ‘Ladies First.’”

The ever-snarky Mr. Olbermann’s longwinded pontifications continue:

“When you boil it all down in determining the Democratic party’s nominee,” Olbermann says. “Only one vote really matters: The 50-something, conservative, registered Democrat, who’s not independent, but not a part of the base, and skipped college…. Who votes on domestic issues — but not in a primary or caucus — in a big state, that doesn’t border in Illinois, that has elected female governors and members of Congress, but didn’t vote Republican in 2004, won’t vote Republican in 2008, and didn’t vote for Jesse Jackson in 1984 or 1988. During an all-day vote, except for the hours between 7 and 7:15 p.m.”

The most important criteria, if Clinton is to have a real shot at the nomination, though comes down to this, he says:

“Oh, and they don’t object to their vote being overruled by superdelegates.”

Hey, Keith, we women are able to be as catty as you. Yes, indeed. Two can play this game, Keith and Chris:

Katy%20Tur11.jpgFrom the New York Post‘s Page Six column on March 21, 2008:

March 21, 2008 — IF you can stomach dating MSNBC blowhard Keith Olbermann , the role does have its perks. We hear Olbermann’s live-in girlfriend, Katy Tur, 24, just landed a news-anchor job on CW11, allegedly with his help. Many are whispering about her qualifications, considering she once professed she didn’t go to journalism school and she’s simply been referred to as a “freelance cable producer” in New York and LA. We tried to reach Tur for comment but reps at CW didn’t return calls.”

And here’s the source of the image of KO’s girlfriend.

One thing you can “count down” towards, Mr. Olbermann, is that your very much younger girlfriend will have ditched you long before you’ve hit Hillary Clinton’s age.

* Footnote on Matthews obsessive fantasies about Obama:

Here’s how delusional Matthews is in his rapturous adoration of Obama, from the must-bookmark blog, “Is Barack Obama The Messiah?“:

“I felt this thrill going up my leg . . .”

I have to tell you, you know, it’s part of reporting this case, this election, the feeling most people get when they hear Barack Obama’s speech. My, I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don’t have that too often. No, seriously. It’s a dramatic event. He speaks about America in a way that has nothing to do with politics. It has to do with the feeling we have about our country. And that is an objective assessment.

Chris Matthews, MSNBC [MP3 Recording | Video February 12, 2008.

Oh, and you can get your very own Is Barack Obama The Messiah? merchandise here:

Personally, I used to hold Keith in high esteem (like many DEMS) until he did the unthinkable and stopped THINKING!!!

Thus stabbing ME in the back. Or so it felt. Now, I don’t think I will ever trust him again. I think I’d rather sit with Hannity and “do lunch” than EVER sit and break bread with Olberdouche!

Matthews has always been a “drooling tweety bird” so nothing new there.

Joe Scarborough however has turned into this HUGE turn on for a lot of us. Ok He’ll be stabbing me in the back come NOV too I’m sure. But for now, it’s anyone’s guess how I”M GONNA ROLL if HILLARY is NOT The NOMINEE!!

ps. and Hannity is pure EVIL (just so you know I’d rather eat lunch with the evil I KNOW versus the hidden evil I don’t know)

  • Jean

Andrea Mitchell should not be covering Hillary’s campaign (although there’s no objective alternative) at MSNBC. Her comments are designed to diminish Clinton everyday. The better the story is about Clinton the more miserable Andrea looks while she spins and spins and spins.

One of the many comments I found unprofessional was her characterization of Hillary have a bump at a bar in PA. You could tell Andrea was concerned with the effectiveness of her campaigning and so she had to do what she does best…she called it….the bar scene from star wars. I wondered why they didn’t get a lot of grief for that. I guess Andrea was likening the blue collar bar patrons to the strange and unfamiliar characters in the star wars scene.

I can’t wait for someone to put compile a book of quotes and pictures of the fools on MSNBC.

  • sandyR

I think it is a wise strategy to turn the spotlight on to the so-called journalists who have abandoned any sense of journalist ethics (if indeed, they ever had any such sense). How can people by virute of some unknown formula be the ones who decide what America is going to be allowed to know about our country and the world? I think because these people have set themselves up basically as “moral authorities” in our culture that we revisit how actually “moral” they are. And I don’t mean stopping at how they portray Hillary. These people don’t care what we say about their sexism, their
one-sided reporting, etc. I believe they have to be discredited themselves. It seems these “journalists”
have made themselves our unelected political leaders.
Since we believe as a nation that our political leaders deserve scrutiny both as to character and policy: why don’t we do the same with these unelected politicians on MSNBC and CNN and elsewhere.
We are asked to suspend our own judgement and accept what they say (my god they puff and preen enough to demand it). So let us look at who they really are.
Why do I know more about Paris Hilton’s personal life than Tim Russert’s? I mean not that I care about either, but then Paris isn’t continually blovating about how I should make my own life choices.
How many of these women-hating men have women hating pasts? Whereas society in general seems to be willing to turn a blind eye to these clowns trashing Hillary Clinton ins every misogynistic way they can dream up; I don’t think society in general would want them in their positions of authority if it was shown that they had a past history of spousal abuse,
nonpayment of child support, really nasty divoce, etc. If they are to be granted the position of politicians (actually they claim an even higher moral ground than elected leaders) should they not be held to the same community standards?
What’s good for the goose, is good for the gander?

    Thanks for your post Susan.

Who ever does win the nomination and who ever does win the election, I for one will never watch KO again. I am proud of myself in that I stopped watching him long before he started his Obama worship and his disgusting, misogynistic Hillary hating.

He’s an arrogant windbag with delusions of grandeur who wouldn’t make a pimple on a real journalist’s ass. But then the same thing is true of most of our overpaid pundocracy.

The Pimple Press for Obama. Until the GE and then it will be all McCain and Obama can whine about how mean every one is being to him to his little heart’s content and no one will care. I certainly won’t. Don’t ask me to care what they do to him when the better part of left Blogostan not only didn’t care when the other Democratic candidate was denigrated but lead the charge to do so.

Oh and not content with denigrated the candidate most of left Blogostan denigrated her supporters. What an absolutely imbecilic thing to do. As mimi says so eloquently: “win without us you a$$holes.” Actually the last word in the quote is from me not mimi. But it just seemed appropriate somehow.

true. I’m waiting for a documentary.

Yeah, and the minute these guys say something nice about Hillary (which they do all the time), you’ll be praising them to high heaven. Do you have whiplash yet?

Tweety’s blather reminded me of the episode of “The American Experience” I watched last night on PBS about George HW Bush. They played footage from his presidential campaign in which he was talking about a kinder, gentler America. Heh. Us non-A-listers remember how well that turned out. While I expect a lot of the children on the tubes to think of anything pre-1992 as ancient history, you would think that people like Tweety would be able to see opportunistic BS for what it is.

Like a lot of people I loved watching KO when he was beating up on the GOP. Yeah, I knew it was bogus non-journalism: the rants, the non-questions to never-contradictory guests, etc. But it was sooooo tasty as the MSM continued their brownnosing to W. Yet, we all should have known it was like eating Twinkies for every meal: cool idea that never works for good reason. Well, KO should know what goes around comes around…

When the campaign started, I said to myself that I will vote for any of the Democratic candidate. However when the primary unfolded I saw how the media has constantly dirtied the Clintons and put Obama on a pedestal. Too much unfairness. They are really intent on putting Sen Obama in the White House by hook or by crook. They have become disciples of Micheavilli.

Unfortunately KO and DM proved themselves no different from the man they love to chastise – Bill Oreilly. The only difference is that they are in the opposite side of the political spectrum and have opposite agenda.

May “karma” befall those who promote injustice !!!

As the campaign unfolds and I saw how the media has constantly dirtied the Clintons and put Obama on a pedestal, I started wondering. Why this unfairness? Is there an agenda? Do you intend to really put Sen Obama in the White House by hook or by crook? Are you now one of the disciples of Micheavilli?

I really can’t wait until K.O. is reduced to be a used-car salesman. (sorry for insulting used-car sales-people)

  • politicsIsdirty

I am a registered Democrat and have been voting Democrat for 2 decades now. However, I am an American citizen first. Democrat second. I love my country and I am willing to bear arms, fight and ready to die for the United States of America. I am not like some stupid Americans who wear blinders like a lot of Democrats or Republicans are. Although personality is important, I am not a stupid American who will vote based on personalities alone. Being cool is nothing to me. Unlike some stupid Americans, I will not vote based on race, age or sex. Although the Democrat platform is where I am more comfortable with, I am not like some stupid Americans who will vote based on Party affiliation. Unlike some stupid Americans, I will not let my vote be influenced by the media. Unlike most stupid Americans, I will not vote for a candidate with extremist views. As like other SMART Americans, I will vote for whoever is the best for the country.

After careful consideration, I believe that the best person who can best serve our country among the pool of current candidates is Sen Clinton. She has the experience to lead and the vision on how progress in our country can be attained. She is tenacious, courageous and has unabashed and unwavering sense of patriotism. I like her platform of Universal Healthcare, responsible withdrawal out of Iraq and plan to fix the economy.

If Sen Clinton loses the nomination to Sen Obama, I will be voting for Sen McCain who likewise has unabashed and unwavering sense of patriotism and experience to lead.

I don’t really doubt the patriotism of Sen Obama but there are a lot of unknown about him. The unfortunate thing is the more I get to know him the more controversy about him comes out. Taking chances on somebody you don’t really know is like gambling your own money. I have gambled some money in Las Vegas and lost. I don’t intend to gamble my country to the care of Sen Obama.

If God forbids she loses the nomination and decides to support Sen Obama, I will respect her decision however painful it will be for me. I just hope that she realizes that she is likewise gambling the country in the hands of an unknown person. That is when her loyalty to the Country ends and the loyalty to the Party begins.

Again, I love my country and my loyalty belongs to our country not to any political party. I know that 30% feel the same way too.

  • it’snotme

Oh just stop it. Everyone knows CNN and MSNBO bash Hillary and worship Obama. Tweety just admitted it in Susan’s post. If the tables were turned and Hillary was their Messiah, you wouldn’t like it any more than we do and you know it.

  • sandyR

I might have gone a bit overboard there. But really I’ve learned to severely dislike these chumps. I don’t want to have them filtering news for me on any subject. Having seen how lousy they are at their jobs, I just really worry that we have to rely on people like them to find out what’s going on in the world, on any topic.

Uppity orSusan or put out the word:

We have the permit to hold a demonstration outside of the DNC Headquarters, 430 S. Capitol St. SE Washington DC 20003 on Wednesday, May 7, be’fore Hillary”””””””s Women’s Event. In order to get to the women’s event on time, we need to be at the DNC by 1:30 p.m.

The Citizens In Support of Every Vote Counts is holding a demonstration to send a message to the super delegates that Florida and Michigan Count, the Voters Count, and Hillary Counts. It is because the Democrats have such a hotly contested race for the presidential nomination that people are turning out in record numbers to register and vote. More than 200,000 new voters have registered in Indiana since the start of the year. More than 30 million Americans have already cast ballots as Democrats. More voters have voted in this primary election than ever before in history and millions more will go to the polls between now and June 3. The record numbers of Americans who are registering and coming out to vote reflect the excitement and level of engagement that both candidates are generating–which only helps the Democratic Party, no matter who is the nominee.

Hillary’s event is at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, 2500 Calvert Street,Washington DC 20008, which is approximately 5 miles away. It will take us about :15 minutes to get from the DNC Headquarters to the hotel by taxi. We should stay at the DNC Headquarters no longer than :45 minutes before heading to the event.

Again, I want to emphasize that this is not a campaign event, so we can”t expect any help. We need to keep the heat up under Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosi in support of fairness, in support of the principles Democrats advocate, in support of every voter should count, in support of letting the campaign continue until the last primary, and in support of the votes Hillary has won to date.

Please send this e-mail to your friends who live in Washington and who will be in town to attend the event on Wednesday.

    Thanks,

    Delmarie Cobb

“Yet, we all should have known it was like eating Twinkies for every meal: cool idea that never works for good reason. Well, KO should know what goes around comes around…”

Why, in retrospect, was Keith’s red-meat liberalism–playing the anti-O’Reilly–such a bad thing? His was the only openly progressive show on the market. Just because he favors Obama over Hillary now?

Or is it something even deeper: that you’ve realized you prefer Republicans over this other half of the Democratic Party, and in retrospect, are turned off by Keith’s attacks on the GOP?

  • TeakwoodKite

Jeff you are your own special comment.

Let’s keep our eye on the ball and remain as resolute as Hillary is that we will win!

Here’s a quote that reminds me TO NEVER believe the naysayers who pound us everyday with “Hillary cannot win this thing…”

“The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any”. A quote by Alice Walker, author of “The Color Purple”.

How appropriate for Hillary and for those of us who support her!

We have the power to win, we just have to BELIEVE.

A Johnny Horton day, honestly, it’s all I think of when I have to witness the K** type parades of nonsense, from this group (MSNBC, their owners, and supporters), all incapable of critical thinking.

I would say their control of the government, media, and business, for lack a better word, only really started with the beginning of the end of the cold war, or it’s transition, I’m not sure if they filled a vacuum while the pieces settled or someone helped them to fill a vacuum.

The only thing they all have in common other than their lack of intellect is a vainglorious need for adoration, one another, and prominence. All are selfish, NONE are capable, and here we are, the rest of us, trying to clean up the cobwebs, post Cheney, and Bush, hoping the American people can learn to see through their incompetent, infantile crap, putting the survival of our democracy, as Jefferson and Madison intended, first.

I am going to be both catty and gossipy here…because MSNBO deserves no less.

First of all, I was struck by Andrea Mitchell’s quote,

“Is this makeover authentic to voters?”

Andrea’s plastic surgeon is definitely better than Michael Jackson’s, but this little phrase could just as easily have popped out of her mouth as,

“Is this makeover authentic to viewers?”

I think people tend to become a little self-obsessed when they are in the public eye all the time and not in the problem-solving mode like our favorite candidate, Hillary.

Now the gossipy part. Several years ago, there was a very excellent, very handsome weatherman/newscaster from the Southwest US who went to work for MSNBC. I won’t name him, but people who have had the pleasure of viewing him almost certainly know to whom I am referring. Anyway, he stayed at MSNBC only one or two years. According to one story I heard, he left because he just wanted to spend more time with his family. According to another story, he left because the management changed and he didn’t like the direction they were headed. From the first time I heard that, I have always wondered what it meant.

I still wonder and I don’t have a problem with conspiracy theories.

    Froomkin: Laura Bush’s Disastrous Diplomacy

When a country run by a despotic and isolationist regime is laid low by a massive natural disaster, the diplomatic thing to do is to respond with a show of compassion. Not kick ‘em when they’re down.

More than 22,000 people have died in the staggering devastation caused by this weekend’s cyclone in Burma. But when First Lady Laura Bush made her first-ever visit to the White House briefing room yesterday, to talk about what’s going on in that country, it was not to deliver a message of goodwill.

Rather than announce the launch of a massive relief effort that could take advantage of a rare diplomatic opening, the first lady instead tossed insults at Burma’s leaders, blamed them for the high death toll, and lashed out at their decision to move forward with a constitutional referendum scheduled for this Saturday.

The traditionally issue-averse first lady’s concerns about the Burmese junta and its abuses of human rights date back several years, and she’s been particularly outspoken since last fall.

But why respond to a catastrophe with such hostility? The awkward timing, as it turns out, may have had something to do with an event entirely unrelated to the cyclone.

“I’m going to leave tomorrow for Crawford, for Jenna’s wedding, and I wanted to be able to make a statement about Burma before I left,” the first lady told reporters.

I watched Brit Hume (can’t stand him, but choices are getting slim) and on two occasions I heard Morten Kondracke slip his opinion of Obama into the conversation. And his opinion is damning, I can’t remember the exact words but I was shocked the first time and pleased the second. Things like – deceitful campaign and another time – he is a fraud – I don’t remember the exact words.

Here is some information on Kondracke from Wikepedia (I’ll take his word about Obama way before those two hos):

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Kondracke graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1956, and from Dartmouth College in 1960. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Washington, DC in the Counter Intelligence Corps while pursuing graduate work at Georgetown University and working part time for the Washington Star. After leaving the Army in 1963, Kondracke joined the staff of the Chicago Sun-Times, moving to the paper’s Washington bureau in 1968, eventually working his way up to White House correspondent in 1974. His influence landed him on the master list of Nixon political opponents.

I found a cure — I just STOPPED watching Corporate News TV. And most of the talking head characters I’ve only seen in YouTube snippets — if I bother to wait for the stupid vids to download.

A couple of years ago I stopped in Nebraska because of rough weather — tornado watch — and the check-in clerk asked all guests to keep the TV on for weather alerts.

Those talking heads — yeck — and then the advertisements. Women are ON tv — but in really marginal roles. That was probably the only time I had ever heard Keith O. — what DO women see in this self important baboon?

I turned the sound off on the TV and decided that if a tornado did hit I’d take my chances with a silent tv.

The constant blah blah blah — telling people what to think about — how to think is MIND CONTROL. Where is the quiet time when one can compare ideas and reject the really stupid stuff that some of the so-called “experts” tell us??

Turn off the tv — or simply reduce exposure to tv and do something else.

However — I guess we do need a few brave souls who will watch what the talking idiots are saying so that tv snobs like me have an idea of what the ENEMY is up to.

So thank you all for watching tv so I don’t have to.

  • Jeff

“Has anyone bothered to tell KO that Illinois and North Carolina were awarded EXTRA delegates for pushing their primaries back? New rule, eh?”

FL and MI Democrats were also offered extra delegates in exchange for pushing their primaries back. They declined both the extra delegates, and the right to have their delegate slates counted at all. Those two facts qualify them as complete morons.

90% or more of AA’s are supporting Obama, so tell me something I don’t know.

Nonetheless, that doesn’t lessen the truth of what Alice Walker had to say. Besides, being a Hillary supporter, I’m not into burning books…sounds a bit too nazi-esque for me!

  • Jeff

“Here is some information on Kondracke from Wikepedia (I’ll take his word about Obama way before those two hos):”

no need for the bio, anyone who’s followed politics for 5 seconds knows who Mort is…

  • Jeff

    Isn’t this interesting:

    FIRST EXIT POLLS:
    HILLARY +5 INDIANA

    OBAMA +12 NORTH CAROLINA

  • Andy

We should start emailing D.B. again to stop taling nonsense b/c she is embarrasing Dems….

  • ndree

My opinion, exactly! That is why, as an AA who hates unfairness, I turned AWAY from BOs candidacy. Then I realized that Hillary was the BEST candidate! she should have for theme song “SIMPLY THE BEST” by Tina Turner. BO is benefiting from an UNFAIR advantage: he is green behind the ears, lazy, unpatriotic, scheming, greedy and inordinately ambitious….I would say DANGEROUS. The MSM AND the DNC need a SERIOUS lesson….boycott them both for the next 4 years! How dare they assume that the manipulated electorate would just fall in line….SCREW THEM!!!! McCain is by far more acceptable than that screwed up lot!

  • Andy

Obama is losing Indiana? Wow….That’s GREAT!!!

  • Andy

that should have read “talking” (sorry)

  • B-Rob

You prove your point about Olbermann’s “sexism” by posting a picture of his girlfriend in a black bra . . . and yet you Hill-bots wonder why you are not take seriously . . . .

  • TeakwoodKite

So a co-worker who supports Obama and a really nice guy was saying Hillary Clinton sent out a flier something to do with gun rights?

He does not like guns I took it…Do you think he would like it if he knew about Mr. Auchi and Obama toasting him?

I asked ” whats wrong with guns?” he left in a huff saying Hillary sounded more like a Republican…

Thats an example of the long term effects of kool-ad…As he left I said tell that to the people that froze in a Chicago winter.

  • requiemforadancer

I wouldn’t want Hillary mad at me.

To persecute out of personal vengeance is very Karl Rove, it doesn’t work, and it’s a fat dorky pigman move, low class. WTH wants to mimic a defeated stupid loser?

OTOH, betraying your country is another matter.

And then there is simply no place to hide.

  • B-Rob

Has anyone bothered to tell KO that Illinois and North Carolina were awarded EXTRA delegates for pushing their primaries back? New rule, eh?

In fact it was a new rule, one that extended to all states. Just as with the candidates, some states had a longer range view than others . . .

  • B-Rob

Jeff, I would NOT drive near these people on the highway. Talk about pointless rage!

  • requiemforadancer

Or maybe Obama is a traitor, dealing with and enabling people who harm America.

This goes a bit beyond self righteousness, and if guys like you made decisions, why, we’d have another 9.11, wouldn’t we, putting in a terrorist enabler.

Do you simply ignore the Rezko information, the information that contradicts your image of Obama?

    That’s kooky, princess.

Anyone who would vote for that shithead is either stupid, or deluded, or a criminal, hands down, no room for disagreement.

You could just as soon vote for Osama, as Obama, really, since they deal with the same people.

You see no problem in this?

    You have a problem.

    Think, princesss, think.

    God, you are STUPID.

  • Andy

These guys are like robots; totally brain washed; it’s
amazing how they incorporate into the psyche Obama’s campaign talking points (by way of the MSM) and they
    don’t even realize it….

You prove your point about Olbermann’s “sexism” by posting a picture of his girlfriend in a black bra . . . and yet you Hill-bots wonder why you are not take seriously . . . .

That is not me. SOMEONE HAS STOLEN MY IDENTITY. AGAIN.

I am no longer allowed to post here. I’ve landed extra shower cleaning duty. That is not me.

    I have to go now.

  • requiemforadancer

And jeff, I don’t think a bunch of stockbrokers and secretaries in New York should have to die, because a bunch of stupid American politicians, and businessmen, and media people enabled the terrorist kooks by taking money from people who make money off of them, and so on.

And google it, princess, and if you still can’t put it together, well, no wonder your side always loses.

If you don’t know who Auchi is, and what he does, and what’s he responsible for, I mark you as uninformed, or a traitor.

Either way, anyone who thinks it’s OK to enable those who think it’s OK to blow up innocent citizens and undermine the government will be treated like the kook garbage he is.

If people like Auchi aren’t stopped, what’s the point?

  • Xeno

Book burnings, death threats, mob intimidation, vicious behavior and character assassination are all common tactics of obamabots, Jeff. Why don’t you ask Texas caucus voters, John Lewis, Tavis Smiley and his family and Mickey Kantor about that and get back to us.

  • requiemforadancer

In my world, David Geffen does not take precedence over Sally Secretary.

    Too bad for you.

Delurking, with a warning. I’m a foreign national, who has been a great fan of this site since it first started, so being a foreigner and being unable to cast a vote makes my comment moot, however I would once again like to congratulate youall the other commenters for their steadfast search for turth and the quality of their posts and comments.
The situation in the polling station is outrageous, and is reminiscent of the last two election irregularities, so I hope it’s a one of situation. I thought it would never happen with a Democrat. So much for a different way of politics. The situation with the media is just as appalling. When were they chosen to the the arbitrers of public opinion? In the old days the media used to o report, then once in awhile to offer opinions. Lately, it appears that the reporting is out of fashion, and the O-Eds are the latest Paris Hilton fad. Bah We are experiencing the same nastiness in my country, and it troubles me greatly.
There are many reasons why I believe Mr Obama will never be president of the USA, and none of them have to do with the color of his skin.
    1. Inexperience
    2. Lack of a cogent resume, which is as a result of No. 1.
    3. Lack of a cogent policy, on anything or perhaps I should indicate lack of an original cogent policy that addressesthe concerns about the economy and international activities – e.g. Iraq and Afghanistan. I’ve read his site and others extensively and his book, as what’s a retiree to do these day, and I must write most of it is empty rhethoric and if this is the best the Democrats have to offer, then they deserve to lose.
    4. Lack of foreign policy experience – perhaps I should write refusal of foreign policy experience, because wasn’t he the chair of the subcommittee, and did he not neglect to convene one meeting during his tenure? That to me is probably the most troubling of all, because of where the U.S. is in world opinion today. A lot of nations’ residents view the U.S. as a wannabe empire (rogue nation if you will), and he could have done a lot to counteract that opinion, yet, when given the opportunity he appeared to do nothing to address the situation.
    5. His campaign policy, backed up by #’s 1 through 4, and the insupportable tactics of his followers. Reported intimidation, suspected fraud? Is this what his campaign is about? Sad.

Unfortunately, Mr Obama’s candidacy will leave a bad taste for many years to come. Even if, by a fluke of fate, he was elected (and I don’t for one moment think that will happen), how will he be perceived by the nations who he will be interacting with on global issues? When the most damaging reportage about Mr Obama is in the International media (read the Guardian, the Australian, Der Spiegel, La Monde, Asia Times), the U.S. will be in a rum position internationally.
Sad, because W.J. Clinton was very well respected internationally. Unfortunately, your own media did not report on most of his accomplishments.
And for those who would bring up the infidelity….Good gosh, do you honestly believe the rest of the civilized world gives a good gosh darn about the private lives of their leaders? Every European country has had leaders who have had extra-marital liasons, as have most of the other countries in the western hemisphere. For goodness sakes, as long as they are leaders, they aren’t involved wtih paedaphilia, aren’t serial killers and they do their job for their people well, who bloody well gives a darn? That stuff is between the person and their partners and is frankly, no one else’s business. I applaud Ms Rodham-Clinton for staying with him. It appears she was correct in doing so, because he is her number one supporter. Do I think Mr Clinton controls Hillary? Not in the least.
You have a chance to elect the best qualified person, who also has the best international reputation, and has a chance to redeem the (once) favorable view of the country and it’s people internationally. As an aside, I well remember traveling in Europe during the Nixon years. I was hitchhiking with a friend (one could do that in those days, although it was dangerous for females -although Franco’s Spain was the only place we had a problem – however, we forged ahead. We met many American young people doing the same, and strangely, they all had the Canadian red Maple Leaf flag sewn on their backpacks. When we asked them why, they indicated that it was because of the underlying resentment and hostility they faced as Americans. I’ve never forgotten that. It’s not that I agreed with the treatment, just it was how the actions of your politicians extend beyond borders and affect all people from your country, whether they were actively involved, supportive, or not. (BTW, If Kirk from Calif, or Eric in Denver, or Marion in SF are reading this, a big wave and a bigger hug from a fellow traveller almost forty years ago). I would hate to see that happen again, although since the IRaq invasion, I suspect it has reared it’s ugly head again – the “ugly Amnerican” syndrome.
The U.S. has an opportunity to recoup all of the prestige and acclaim built during previous pre-GWB post-Nixon administrations. Please Don’t throw that opportunity away on an untested candidate whose supporters resort to barely, if not outright illegal tactics to ensure their candidate will win. SHould that happen, that will only diminish the country in the eyes of the outside world, and with today’s economy, you cannot afford isolationism, particularly when China holds trillions of dollars in loans.,

Can everyone PLEASE ignore Jeff. He will go away if we don’t play his games.
    Thank you!

The father away the extreme left wanders the more myopic their vision becomes.

Dawnelle, honey, you’re scaring the limpy dick Obama trolls. They take after their wimpy candidate. Strong women make thier scrotal sacs tuck up.

Kinda’ like a scab, it you quit picking at it, it will dry up and fall off.

    Thanks for your insight!

I always thought that something was lacking in Chris Mathews. The “lets play hardball: shtick seemed a bit bogus. I feel sorry for keith Olbermann. I’ve read one of his books and enjoyed it. He is better when he sticks to sports. I’m disappointed in Ms. Mitchell. I had a lot of respect for her, but it is gone with the wind. When it comes to Obama’s charm and savoir faire, I seem to be immune. As a skeptic, I prefer my candidates with substance. Not someone who hasn’t been in the Senate long enough to find the restrooms, and beat Alan Keyes to get there. Not much in the way of opposition. A real challenge for a candidate. Anyone could have beaten Keyes. not much of an exposure to the “big leagues.”

  • Outsider

First and foremost, let me preface my post here. I’m from Michigan, a college dropout, male, and I’m pro-Obama.
I also firmly believe that Michigan’s vote shouldn’t count, so far as delegates are concerned. Our branch of the Democratic party knew what the results of their actions in moving the primary would be, and decided to do it anyway.
While I’m at it, unlike many of my compatriots, I also believe that Senator Clinton has no reason to remove herself from the race. She does have a number of pledged delegates, and in her position, I wouldn’t quit either.
Also, I am aware that there are a lot of questions to be raised about the backgrounds of all candidates for the Presidency. This should always be the case. A healthy distrust of the person you pay taxes to is a rational and worthwhile thing.
Finally, my belief that Barack Obama is better suited for this position is not an expression of a latent (or blatant) misogyny. After exploring the issues, skin color and gender aside, I feel that Senator Obama’s approach is the better one, and that’s why I support him.
There. Now that’s out of the way.
It seems to me that the point that Olbermann was trying to make with the “ladies first” joke was that a variety of rationalizations have been offered (by both sides, I might add) for why losing a particular state doesn’t matter, and that there really aren’t a lot of reasons left. Subtly sexist, maybe. On the other hand, I think sometimes we choose to read too much into every statement made by people. If we dig deep enough, we can turn any statement into an insult against us, as I’m certain is being done with this very sentence. I know that it often seems otherwise, but not everyone is out to get you or insult your gender.
As for the comments that follow, I can’t help but wonder: Doesn’t anyone realize that this is precisely the last thing that the Democratic party needs? This election should be done and over with. McCain and his raging hard-on for war should practically be out to pasture by now. Instead, we’re so busy fighting each other over minor, petty issues that we can’t be bothered to actually win the election.
The media doesn’t help this problem, and instead chooses to distract from the actual issues by focusing on tiny, pointless distraction, like who happens to be wearing a flag pin.
We don’t need this infighting. We need to have this nomination taken care of so that we can start to heal this country after 8 years of the last asshole to hold the job.
There are more effective solutions than this scorched-earth campaigning that we’re in the middle of. How about both campaigns put together an actual debate. Webcast the whole thing, and give each candidate 10 minutes to talk about major issues, and keep the media out of it? Or, instead of one being the other’s running mate, how about a co-presidency? At the inauguration, have some impartial judge flip a coin with pictures of the candidates on both sides, and whoever’s picture is on the top is president the first year, and alternate from there?
The point I’m going for is that we need to join together to save this country and this world.
Call me a “limpy dick” Obama supporter, if you like. But, please realize that our campaign’s anger at each other needs to be more effectively utilized than we are now.

  • CAE

Wow, what a jump! Too bad making shitty assumptions isn’t an Olympic sport or you’d have a gold medal.

I can’t stand the Republicans, but I also am very deeply personally offended at the self-serving racism victim crap and the sexist BS.

So, Jeff, you are waaaaaaayyyyyyy off base (as usual).

  • fooj

    Beautifully stated.

    Never forget.

  • fooj

now you’re saying that it was Obama who awarded the extra delegates?

Project much? YOU said that I said it was Obama. I’ve lived this bullshit for 7+ years. I KNOW what I said.

Newsflash: I never mentioned Matthews or Russert. YOU did. And your “important point” is?

[...] Chris Matthews’ Clinging Tingling For Obama Nearly “Official” — Then There’s Olbermann’s… (by SusanUnPC at No Quarter) Turns out that Chris Matthews’ leg-tingling* that he discussed recently on MSNBC’s Hardball — aired on a network so blatantly pro-Obama that we all call it MSNBO these days — is not due to restless leg syndrome. It’s a far more serious mental obsessive-compulsive condition that has disabled his ability to be neutral when discussing Obama. Numerous reports confirm this exchange before a Harvard Crimson audience: “Praising Barack Obama throughout his speech, Matthews said the Illinois Democrat is a symbol of the positive change that he believe the country needs… When asked by another audience member how he would respond to the claim that MSNBC officially supports Obama, Matthews responded with typical Hardball wit, “Well, it’s not official.” [...]

It is unbelievable to read that MSNBC is removing Keith O and Chris M from their role as Live polical commentators for the presidential elections. MSNBC is given in to polical pressure from the republican. MSNBC management are cowards and they should be ashamed of their decisions. Fox noise networks allows their people to say whatever without any repercursions against democrats and others are reprimend when conservative republicans scream “remove or fire.” I guess Fox news have good leaders and MSNBC have shit heads.
