Thank God For Barack Obama and Wanda Sykes

(Bumped up from Sunday afternoon.)

It is Sunday and time to get your God on. Let’s praise the Lord (or Allah or Buddha) for the glorious chanage Barack Obama has brought to Washington. The man has changed the tone. The man has changed the debate. Instead of fear there is hope. Don’t believe me, just check out the following from Wanda Sykes.

Change we can believe in. Right?

I will give a comedian some leeway, normally. But Wanda Sykes crossed a fucking line here. And it was not even remotely funny. I am not a Rush Limbaugh fan. I think he is a self-important propagandist. But this attack on him is wrong and worrying.

I do not recall a single attack by the Bush Administration singling out, say, Keith Olberman, for a comparable attack.

So what does Obama do? Does he stand up and chide his acolytes for crossing a line? No. Does he show one shred of damn leadership in reminding the assembled mass of disciples that he supposedly insists on a bipartisan, kinder Washington? Hell no. Barack Obama, just another low life partisan hack.

Like we 18 million have been saying in agreement with Larry’s post, I mean.

  • mountainaires

Comedians and comediennes routinely FAIL at these events. They’re not even remotely funny; they’re too often offensive and insulting. I didn’t watch the big show, and tried to avoid watching the news about it this morning. This video vindicates my choice.

  • arran

It was not funny to accuse Limbaugh of being the 20th terrorist who missed his plane. She should know better, but she and others like her have a platform now, so let them crash and burn.

  • Cindy

Thanks, Larry. Obamama and friends seem to be just as hateful as Bush and friends.
Could someone here at No Q possibly keep a running tally ( a list, actually)of the SIMILARITIES between the Bush Admin and the Obama Admin? especially in policies. Like Obama admin. continuing the same policy re: Polar Bears and their habitat? Like wiretaps, etc? There are so many it’s hard to keep up with without looking at a list.
Dr. Socks, over at reclusiveleftist.com has a May 8 post addressing this.
Thank you, Larry, for all that you and Susan do here at No Quarter.

  • ame

….and the tea parties consisted of “teabagging rednecks” according to the msm.

I’m sick of the double standards the mainstream media has. Furthermore, the coverage of the whole event made me feel like barfing. It definitely shows who really has access to the Prez and why the elite is so out of touch with the average American.

  • Hg

Obama has always let others do the heavy lifting–racism–sexism–religion. He quitely keeps his f—n mouth shut and if it flys or sticks to the wall–fine. If not, he throws the motha fuc-as under the bus. Cons con each other. It’s the Chicago way.

  • I’m a Linda too

    Exactly, yes, thank you LJ

I used to like her. What happened? She jumped on Weary Barry’s Intimidate, Argue, Attack and Threaten mangie changie trainey?

Gee, they need to figure out what side of their face they’re going to talk out of, so we can track their position on something.

It’s OK to wish a someone personal harm and say he should be waterboarded, even though they want to claim waterboarding is torture so it’s no ok, but for them to call for torture is ok?

    WOW!

Thank you for your illuminating positions Wanda.

  • http://undercoverblackman.blogspot.com Undercover Black Man

Prez and Wanda Sykes brought the jokes… hard. EPIC WIN!!

I thought it was all very funny. Rush Limbaugh is a partisan player, so shed no tears for him. Whenever a normal human utters his name in public, it serves his purpose. Rush will probably devote his first hour to these jokes tomorrow.

I can defend the “kidneys fail” joke — the most questionable line of the night — because of the way Wanda punctuated it: “How about that?”

The meaning of the joke was not to genuinely wish pain and death on Rush Limbaugh, but to highlight the inappropriateness of Limbaugh wishing failure on the president. It was like, “How do you like these apples, Rush?”

Now, how about the breakthroughs of the evening in terms of gay-friendly and racially frank punch lines? “Let’s go to Iowa and make it official.” Remarkable!

And to refer to the President of the United States as a “mulatto”? Daring.

That was comedy the way I like it.

  • kgirl1028

It’s amazing how many people have piss poor hearing we have in his country, Rush never saide he wanted the Country to fail he said he wanted Obama to fail and that’s a very different thing.

  • Ellen D

    Wow.
I stopped watching CNN when their onsite glammed up reporter stood on the red carpet among the Hollywood stars, and, obviously starstruck, said “Who needs the Oscars? We have the Correspondents dinner.

Obviously the in=booth CNN producer or director (I’ve worked in broadcast news) pulled the plug on all this over-the-top media adulation and the onscreen anchor (with directions in his ear) put the brakes on saying “I’m uncomfortable with this.” and “This is wrong”.

I look forward to seeing this exchange on the Daily Show (never).

I don’t know who Wanda Sykes is but she isn’t funny. Colbert was both funny and courageous.

Obama bemoaned the coming demise of the newspapers but if PF Dunne’s misquoted saying (used by Gene Kelly in Inherit the Wind) is true: “”The business of a newspaper is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable”, then the newspapers have been zombies for a long time.

  • shannon

“Now, how about the breakthroughs of the evening in terms of gay-friendly and racially frank punch lines? “Let’s go to Iowa and make it official.” Remarkable!”

Except that BO does not support gay marriage.

  • Ladydawnelle

    I agree Cindy

The running tally is a scary thing

    Mostly cuz it’s still RUNNING!!!

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

  • jbjd

Rush Limbaugh’s whole quote on FOX was this.

So I shamelessly say, no, I want him to fail, if his agenda is a far- left collectivism, some people say socialism, as a conservative heartfelt, deeply, why would I want socialism to succeed?

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,481484,00.html

Here is what BO ‘joked’ about at the Correspondents’ Dinner.

Obama said he and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, his Democratic primary foe last year, have become a lot closer since the presidential campaigns. “The second she got back from Mexico, she pulled me into a hug,” Obama said, alluding to the swine flu pandemic.

On his wife, “No matter which party you belong to, you have to agree, Michelle has the right to bear arms.” A reference to her penchant for sleeveless dresses.

His kids were not spared, “Sasha and Malia aren’t here tonight because they’re grounded. You can’t just take Air Force One on a joyride to Manhattan.”

Former VP Chaney was a target also. “Dick Cheney was supposed to be here, but he was working on his memoirs. How To Shoot Friends and Interrogate People.”

    http://www.examiner.com/x-7311-Seattle-Spiritual-Living-Examiner~y2009m5d10-Obama-jokes-about-Hillary-his-wife-his-daughters-and-more

There was a brilliant series on PBC called “The Elegant Universe” – you can still watch this on line – about the search for Einstein’s Unifying Theory of …Everything. The program posits, there could be several dimensions of time and space, operating simultaneously. The fact that I am now defending Rush Limbaugh, from Wanda Sykes, is empirical evidence that at least one of those parallel universes exists.

Great point–and more specifically, for Obama’s policies to fail, since he thinks they are bad policies to begin with.

I hope the policies fail, too, because I truly believe they will mire us in a long depression.

I thought the comedians were supposed to roast Obama at this event? Obama did some self deprecating jokes (for the first time ever) so I give some credit for that, but why didn’t Wanda lay into him?

  • shannon

Five years ago I would have marveled at BO’s humor and the “edginess” of Wanda Sykes.

Now I just find it all counter-productive. To be honest — and I’m probably the only one who felt this way — but I found Obama at the dinner to be smarmy. I sensed an Obama there that is closer to the truth of who he really is than the edited version we’re presented with by the Axelrod-Emmanuel TeleProm Production company.

It reinforces what I’ve felt for a year: it’s not a great idea to personally like your politicians, for it clouds your judgment.

  • jbjd

    PBC = PBS

  • termo

You are right about a certain line that should not be crossed at these dinners and until Obama they have not been crossed.

When it was crossed – like Imus making jokes about Clinton’s alleged sexual exploits at one of these dinners – he crossed the line and was banished from all future dinners and the White House.

Obama is a low rent political moron who, because of his over-inflated ego and his poor upbringing, does not understand how to conduct himself and what the term “respect” means.

  • Tom Cat “wodiej” Jefferson Esq

Sykes is another person in a very long line of Obama supporters with no class, integrity and are complete hypocrites. Before making jokes about Limbaugh being a terrorist, being waterboarded and his kidneys failing, take a good, hard look in the mirror. You’ve become what you claimed to hate. If these same comments were made about Obama or any black person, all hell would break loose.

Democrats said they wanted Bush to fail, where was the ire about that? None to be found.

Obama is simply enabling people who already get entitlements they don’t deserve nor worked for. Limbaugh doesn’t care about people losing their homes? No, Limbaugh cares about people working for what they get!

Glad you wrote about ths LJ. I was disgusted to the extreme.
I couldn’t care less about Rush L. I despise him and think his a #1 A-h–le (I can’t forget his jokes of HRC).

But to minimize what the 9-11 terrorists and the 20th hijacker did by comparing them to Rush L. is an insult to the victims and their families. These people murdered over 3,000 people and did sth. atrocious. To say that compares to a radio host trivializes what these terrorists did : it was a disgraceful, insulting and cheap shot at Rush L at the expense of the families of 9-11 victims. Shame on Sykes and on all those who laughed at it; including PBO; unbelievable.

Limbaugh never wished the country or Obama to fail; only that if his policy was to bring us a socialist America, he wanted the policy to fail. Does that make me a traitor too? Evidently, Wanda is beyond her pay scale and either deliberately intends to mislead or has selective hearing.

  • http://firefox Martha Washington Collier

Sorry, I’ve been away; trying to catch up on the threads. Didn’t mean to repeat, repeat!

    Ah poor Wanda.

She better remember the last comedian who tried something “off color” for Obie. It was Bernie Mac.

We know how that one ended!

  • lorac

Was the “mulatto” joke good in general, or was it only okay because of Sykes’ color?

  • jbjd

Did you see the joke BO made, which I posted above, that his daughters had buzzed Manhattan in AF1? Some of those news people probably experienced 9.11 firsthand. Did any of them walk out of the dinner?

My son has a good friend whose parents and I don’t get along. The other night, his friend asked him to spend the night; he called for permission. ‘Yes, but first come home to get your medicine.’ So, he came home, took a shower, got his medicine, and left, He was so excited. But shortly thereafter, he called back to say, his friend’s mother insisted, I owed her husband an apology for my latest offense against them and until such apology, my son could not spend the night. I offered to apologize at once but, this was Sabbath and so the parents, Orthodox Jews, could not speak on the phone. (We are Reform Jews.) So, my son came home. We briefly discussed how to proceed. I repeated that, I would do anything to prevent his relationship with his friend from being held hostage. Yes, I would apologize but, we needed to spell out the parameters of that apology. For example, the father had demeaned the social skills of both my son AND his son; I had stood up for both boys. Did my son think I should defend them from slander in the future? Plus, the father chastised my refusal of their last-minute dinner invitation some weeks earlier. (‘We’re just sitting down to eat; tell your mother to join us.’)Did my son expect me to drop everything and run over to their house in the future, when summoned? I told him to sleep on it, and we would figure out what to say, tomorrow.

The next day, my son brought up the subject of my apology. ‘I’ve been thinking,’ he said. ‘This kind of reminds me of the Nazis. I mean, the Jews had to watch their step just to live…’ (I know this is extreme; but my son’s a teenager, he’s studying the Holocaust, and he’s autistic.) I was so proud he was weighing my apology as a moral dilemma.

If I had attended this correspondents’ dinner, where the entertainment consisted of a joke about a flyover of NYC which, in real life, sent panicked NYers into the street; and a recommendation that a political opponent should undergo torture; I would have walked out. In honor of my son.

  • http://undercoverblackman.blogspot.com Undercover Black Man

The truth behind the joke — that if Obama “screws up,” black voters will distance themselves from him racially — has maximum comedic impact coming from a black speaker.

No problem with that. Comedy is a subtle art form.

  • http://undercoverblackman.blogspot.com Undercover Black Man

Ron Silver… Bernie Mac… Yes, the plains are strewn with the corpses of Obama’s enemies!

  • lorac

I didn’t bother watching this clip, but I know Sykes from her recurring bit role on the Larry David show, “Curb your Enthusiasm”, on HBO. She’s always nasty, bitter, and sarcastic. Of course, she’s not the only comedian with that style, but I don’t care for it in any of them.

It seems like most comedians are like her, or else they’re like Ben (I can’t make a movie unless it includes bodily fluids as a joke) Stiller with his junior high level of thought.

Comedians who have the ability and take the time to come up with stuff you don’t see coming are in the minority, it seems. Instead, most just seem to go for the easy stuff, the basest level.

  • lorac

I recently read some republicans saying that not much is expected of dems because everyone knows that they have no morals. They seemed to have no clue that many dems feel that way about republicans.

I’ve realized that until this last election, I was the same way, except from the dem point of view. Now I think they’re all the same, a bunch of hypocrites – if the other side does it, I can villify them, but if my side does it, we’re justified and it’s not the same thing.

I think it’s good that a lot of “regular people” get together on sites like this – we can learn how we have similarities, at least in the sense of being manipulated by the politicians and their people.

  • oowawa

Well, since the legendary UBM has been reappearing on NQ lately, I feel that I need to publish the following statement:

I may annoy and alienate some of my NQ compadres, who (like I do) remember a contentious primary season when UBM was the Anti-Christ’s chief henchman. But I feel I need to speak up in his behalf now. We should not call UBM names. Although he may now seem to be a horrible and incorrigible obot, there may come a time when he sees the error of his ways and repents. And no doubt he may hold out the same hope for me and the rest of us. The battle-lines in politics change very rapidly nowadays, and UBM is smart and articulate: he could become a welcome ally in future battles.

Don’t thank me, UBM: it’s beneath your haughty dignity (had to get in that last jab).

P.S.–For those of you familiar with Frazier, doesn’t UBM remind you a little of Cam Winston? Is this racist? I don’t care.

    OK, I can buy that.

UBM, there are several different schools of thought on economics–Keynesianism is NOT the only one. The policies that the Obama administration is supporting happen to be ones that many believe will prolong the depression and cause much more misery in the long run than necessary. Huge debts, future inflation, confusion and unpredictability in the market will affect everyone adversely, especially poorer people. Is that what we want?

The Austrian School of economics says we should allow prices to readjust, ease up on both taxing and spending, and stop the Fed from messing in monetary policy any more than it has. (A great way to provide immediate relief to people would be to reduce payroll taxes–why not put more money in peoples’ pockets as opposed to throwing it to special interest groups via ‘stimulus’ projects?) That way, the market will return to a healthy state of equilibrium and sustainable growth, which is what we all want.

I honestly think the Obama administration is taking the wrong path. It will not lead to a recovery.

  • socalannie

Good story. My own son, who has a handicap which affects his legs, is in a physical therapy class with a few autistic teens. These boys are amazing, so brilliant; they are all very supportive of each other & my son (recovering from surgery on both legs) and they all do other teen activities and classes together now. The association and friendship with these autistic teens has been a rich experience for my son & I.

It did not seem to me that the crowd was eating this up either. She did go to far and she knew it. The crowd sounded like they were a little uncomfortable to me by the reaction I heard. Not much laughter. Hard to tell without actually seeing audience reaction, but truly it sounded ike they weren’t buying.

I don’t care for Limbaugh either but her behavior is completely wrong.

Then again, When Senator John Cornyn stood on the Senate floor and was more or less encouraging violence against “activist judges,” that was overthe line, too.

This is wrong no matter who is doing it.

The 0zero administration made sure any speeches Bill Clinton gives are ‘approved’ by said administrators. So wouldn’t you think all these remarks had to get prior approval? Our present day comedy, if you deem it funny enough to be called that, is so nasty and mean-spirited it makes my head spin. And the tone of the left-wing blogs has followed along so quickly with no regard at all to what they say. Sometimes I lurk to see what they’re commenting on, and I am astounded at the vile thoughts people put forth. I am old enough to remember that “kinder, gentler nation” the first George Bush talked about, and truer words were never spoken. Vile speech is vile no matter whose mouth is spews out of, but right now the Democrats are making the Republicans look like amateurs. Disgusting.

To my knowledge, no one has ever accused Ms. Sykes of having any class. Within only a few minutes, within a few sentences, she manages to suggest Limbaugh is guilty of treason, guilty of terrorism, she equates him with one of the most despised persons on the planet, refers to him as a drug addict, wishes disease on him, and suggests he should be tortured for his opposing views. I would say that Ms. Sykes is far more efficient than she is funny.

I wonder if mean-spirited comments such as these were directed at Ms. Sykes if she would find them just as humorous.

I don’t think 0bama’s remarks were self-deprecating at all. It appears he was simply acknowledging his ‘greatness’. Perhaps the teleprompter joke was self-deprecating, but all those first 100 days remarks were to remind people of how well thought of he is – even godlike to some. And that is truthfully how it really is. All these mindless near worshippers are almost in a trance. It would be shocking, even blasphemous for them to read what this group thinks of their best example of human perfection.

  • http://deleted Betsy Buzz Ross Latte

Wow. Who’s having the holier than thou meltdown????

This is what gives women a bad name.

Now, it’s a pimp and ovaries. The bitchiness escalates and where are you?

Lighten up and have some sweet dreams, goddess girl. You need ‘em!!

Letting it slide is the kindest thing you could do for your blood pressure.

  • Danny

yeah this country is full of mother fuckers… and it takes one to know one.

All the extremists are busy calling each other terrorists. That’s going to bring us together?!

Wanda isn’t any better and she knows it. By saying the shit she spews from her mouth she wins attention and that’s the whole game. Not doing the right things. NO! Being an attention whore at all costs, that’s all they want.

  • http://deleted Betsy Buzz Ross Latte

See? You let UBM get to you.^^^

    He’s not worth it.

  • lorac

And maybe it’s worse when women insult men by implying they’re “less than men” – ie, like women. Women should know better – they’re cutting themselves down as they try to cut down the men. Some of them don’t see that, though.

But I know what you mean about some men. They used to call each other “bast**d”, now they call each other “b*tch” – it’s considered worse, because then the other person isn’t just a jerk, they’re less than a man – and what’s less than a man? A woman. It’s total sexism.

  • http://deleted Betsy Buzz Ross Latte

Methinks you all protest too much.

How about if the original comment were changed to

Where were they? In your gymbag?

Would that assuage you ladies with the sensitivity dial on stun?

Personally, I don’t care. I’m past being insulted by “purse” comments. But for those of you who need to cling to it as being an insult, I recognize where you’re stuck.

Just think. UBM gets a laugh at YOUR expense.

  • lorac

Oh, NoBamaNoWay, I meant to add, I think the “fag” insult is also based on sexism – because gay men are assumed to be like women, they’re not “real men”. So to call men gay or say they’re like women, both are assuming, as you say, that (real) men are superior – manhood is the norm, the ultimate superior status.

  • lorac

I don’t agree with UBM’s approval of Obama, but that doesn’t mean I want to get a cheap dig in by comparing him to women, which would be cutting myself down at the same time.

I see no reason for UBM to get a laugh in at our expense.

Anyway, your new screenname threw me for a minute, but when you told NoBamaNoWay that she was giving women a bad name, I recognized you – that’s what you say to women who don’t agree with your patriarchal view of women. So, I already know this is going nowhere. If I had recognized you, I wouldn’t have bothered.

  • NoBamaNoWay

ok, so you obviously saw the light when i turned it around with the “ovaries” comment. i’m glad. and believe me, i’m not worried about you having an even lower opinion of women than you do already.

  • NoBamaNoWay

agreed, and unfortunately, a lot of these (mostly younger) women, will not figure out that they have been tools in the ongoing contempt for their gender until it’s too late.

  • lorac

Well, I thought of one thing, but it probably won’t help.

I think what you did would be analogous to UBM trying to insult you by saying “oh, you’re acting just like a black person”. If he said that and meant it, don’t you think that would smack of quite a bit of self-hate?

  • kgirl

No Undercover that’s what happens if the freak suceeds.

  • NoBamaNoWay

absolutely; the root of homophobia is sexism; “Miss” Betsy Ross can deny it all she wants, and maybe she truly doesn’t see it, but you can believe that most of the ones making those insults know exactly what they’re about.

  • kgirl

Oops sorry you are too caught up in the historical significance to see straight.

  • http://deleted Betsy Buzz Ross Latte

Well, you’re all wrong on all accounts. I’m probably older than both of you and a lady but I learned along time ago to not get worked up over a one liner on a blog.

I prefer to be wonderful as opposed to being angry a long time ago. It works for me. I help run a business and a household.

So, you didn’t like the comment. Like I said, it’s your choice to have a fit about it and resort to derogatory comments. I refer you back to pimp, ovaries, and likening the comment to lessening women. Those are your words and your perceptions. We’ll call it detente.

I wish you you all a good day tomorrow with people smiling at you rather than frowning at you.

  • NoBamaNoWay

my remark was clearly sarcasm; however, all the “balls” comments, jokes etc., are directly analogous to statements like “that’s mighty white of you,” or “what color do i look?” etc., which most people would never dream of saying.

one could claim that there was no direct insult made to non-white people, but quite obviously those statements would make no sense *without* the negative reference to non-whites. ditto with the “balls” jokes – they make no sense unless not having balls (i.e. being female) was considered a bad thing.

and lastly, how come women are not constantly talking about their ovaries and how horrible it would be to be without them? answer: because women aren’t constantly trying to reassure themselves that they’re better than ovary-less people.

  • kgirl

Hold up it’s mother day, don’t disparage stanley ann cause of her son. Like I said just call him “that little f**ker”. It was my name for W. and i have passed it on to our new Liar and Chief.

  • http://deleted Betsy Buzz Ross Latte

You seem to need to be right, tonight.

  • http://deleted Betsy Buzz Ross Latte

Ever heard of enjoying the differences rather than trying to equate everything?

How boring it would be if we were all alike!

    Enjoy rather than destroy!

  • lorac

Yes, I remember, I know you’re not 20-something. And I haven’t responded to you in anger. But, just fyi, your responses to people usually strike me as VERY angry. You always seem to come out all barrels blazing, and yet you always accuse the other person of overreacting or having meltdowns, just because they commented to you. I always notice that, so it jumped out at me when you accused us of being angry people, and referred to yourself as being at peace. Just an observation. No anger in it.

  • http://deleted Betsy Buzz Ross Latte

That’s your perception. You seem to need to always have the last word. Just my perception.

Perhaps if you could skip over my comments I would be more than willing to do the same with yours.

If you feel the need to continue, please do so at your need. But I really feel this is devolving into nothing more than you needing to be right, no matter what.

So, there we are. Two different perceptions with out proving who is MORE correct.

If you take that as anger, then again, it is your perception.

  • lorac

I don’t know NoBamaNoWay, but the odds are that she does enjoy men. She’s not saying that women and men should be the same. She’s talking about a common behavior which “destroys” women, and you’re saying that her talking about it, is destroying men?

Ok, NoBama, enjoy your 2nd class status, and stop griping. Be a “lady”, know your place, and take what is graciously given to you. LOL

  • http://undercoverblackman.blogspot.com Undercover Black Man

    Reeer!

You ladies need to settle this in the mud pit.

    :-o

  • http://deleted Betsy Buzz Ross Latte

Without the last paragraph, you were beginning to have hope. Ah, well.

  • http://deleted Betsy Buzz Ross Latte

And I bet you’ve had fun reading all this. For once, UBM we’re probably on the same page as far as the folly of it all.

LOL!!! This is really hysterical. When will women ever learn to grow up, eh?

  • lorac

If I discuss something with you and don’t agree with you, that means I need to have the last word? But that doesn’t apply to you, right? You’re free to have your own view of women. Generally people come on these boards to share their opinions, but if you see it as people trying to “beat” you, then that might explain the automatic barrels blazing.

  • http://deleted Betsy Buzz Ross Latte

    You’re still posting, aren’t you?

That looks like trying to have the last word.

  • lorac

Oh, UBM, I know you know how sexist that comment is – the cat noise, and the women wrestling in mud for men’s enjoyment?

So if you carry on a discussion with another black man, I can suggest you guys go pull out the certainly everpresent switchblades?

I agree with Buzz, you guys will see eye to eye on your comment. But she’s the lady, I’m a woman.

  • http://deleted Betsy Buzz Ross Latte

Oh, okay, I’ll go one better.

In the world of counseling, your comments could be seen as projection. Projecting your own motives on me by judging me as guns blazing, while you persist in commenting on my “behavior” when really it is your behavior right now you refuse to own.

    Just sayin’

  • lorac

Honey, I’m a therapist with advanced degrees. You’re not going to win this, which you seem to make discussions into. ‘Night.

  • http://deleted Betsy Buzz Ross Latte

Oh but I just did win.

    You went away.

  • FranSC

Actually, ScottVA, Hillary got railroaded by many more people than B0. While he accepted everything offered or given to him by the sinister DNC, Dem leadership, George Soros’MoveOn.org, the newsmedia et al, he could NEVER in a million years been able to pull off 1/4th of all that went into getting him nominated and then elected. His Ill campaign for the US Senate only raised $100K. You don’t go from that to only a couple of years later to raising $750Million without a LOT of help.

  • lorac

    Enjoy.

  • http://undercoverblackman.blogspot.com Undercover Black Man

Oh, UBM, I know you know how sexist that comment is – the cat noise, and the women wrestling in mud for men’s enjoyment?

Yeah, lorac… but I’m being silly. Y’all are being all serious. I wasn’t bothered by the testicles-in-a-purse comment; this is a thread about risk-taking humor.

(Besides, I was guarding against a kick in the nuts in the first place… not against castration.)

  • http://deleted Betsy Buzz Ross Latte

Enjoy – ah, the last word – hopefully.

  • lorac

Well, I knew there was a possibility that you were just trying to bait – because I knew you knew it was sexist.

But the risk-taking humor wouldn’t get that treatment from me – so you’re safe. Only if my physical safety depended on it, which it wouldn’t, here.

  • lorac

That’s to UBM, not Buzz… it’s Buzz’s turn to enjoy her lst word.

  • http://deleted Betsy Buzz Ross Latte

Oh by the way, UBM, I was never being serious about any of it. Life is way too short.

Some people don’t deal well with repartee. I love it, however.

  • http://deleted Betsy Buzz Ross Latte

God, she’s still talking, old lorac, there.

  • CrazySam

    Obama also said:

“I would like to talk about what my administration plans to achieve in the next 100 days. During the second 100 days, we will design, build and open a library dedicated to my first 100 days.”

“I believe that my next 100 days will be so successful, I will be able to complete them in 72 days — and on the 73rd day I will rest.”

    What an arrogant prick!

  • http://undercoverblackman.blogspot.com Undercover Black Man

Oh by the way, UBM, I was never being serious about any of it.

And Wanda Sykes was never being serious about wishing kidney failure on Rush. Which is what I understood as soon as the words left her mouth.

  • http://deleted Betsy Buzz Ross Latte

Yes, it’s common sense to believe that Wanda Sykes was trying to be funny. “Trying” being the operative word.

I used to find her comedy insightful and speaking to the human condition, but the attacks in the clip fell short.

Disclaimer: JMHO and in no way intended to be sexist, demeaning, disparaging to women or men, racist, or any of the other soup de jour no-nos as judged by other posters on this thread.

  • lorac

I said goodnight to you, Buzz – I didn’t leave the board, or imply I couldn’t talk to others. But you go on talking, ole Buzz; I’m very happy to accord you the last word game-win you like.

Interesting, though – if you think I have left, then you say you have won. But if I continue to post, then you also win, because it’s proof to you that my existence is about getting in the last word. Got yourself a nice little win-win game going there.

But I don’t pull out the big guns on you, because then I’d have to charge you. :)

So goodnight again – to you – I’m here for a little while longer, so sorry.

  • lorac

I don’t watch these things, but it was my impression that they were supposed to be “roasts”, which means, roasting the “person of honor”….? So, the jokes should have all been about BO. I guess not now, in this, the Glorious Age of Obama.

  • http://deleted Betsy Buzz Ross Latte

So WAS that your last word?

Why should you feel the need to pull the guns out? Is that projection?

What’s will all the gun talk?

And why the need to explain and reply?

    Mystification.

Yes, let us not forget that the gay marriage referendum, in California, was voted down by a majority of Obama voters.

But let’s not talk about that.

  • Marigat

jbjd: Wow. Best comment in the batch!

  • lorac

Maybe she hopes to be the dems’ black version of Ann Coulter? I guess Ann has a bunch of books to her advantage, but the sarcasm and hyperbolic comparisons seem the same.

Mulatto? That’s a term that came out of slavery here in the US. Except Obama is not a descendant of slaves.

t’s funny how the same black folks that will scream if a white woman dates a black man keep overlooking that fact.

  • tminu

Speaking of the corpse list stacking up around Obama, here’s what I can come up with:
    Bernie Mac
    Tim Russert–probing too much?
    Donald Young
    Mr. Bland
    Quarles Harris
    FEC executive ?

I’m tired of hearing Obama and his enterainment buddies flapping their jaws, showing their asses and generally being embarassments to adults everywhere.

Does this make me a “rayciss?”

We COULD have elected Dennis Haysbert, if we just needed a black guy. Or even Roscoe Lee Brown (except that he’s taking a dirt nap). Or Ed Bradley.

I loved your “Grandma Moses” nightclub act comment!

I am a BIG fan of Rush Limbaugh’s (and getting to be a bigger fan every time he turns out to be spot-on in describing what Obama and his thugs will do next) and I can assure you Rush will have no problem at all responding to dear Wanda. I mean really–if IQ points are any help–she is in real trouble tomorrow when Rush eviscerates her with wit and, of course, his own brand of charm!

In fact, I’m quite sure he is thrilled beyond belief that she targeted him so boldly since every time the administration or other libs do that, his ratings go through the roof! He can only come out on top in this scenario….

  • lorac

When other people are challenged, they get immediately defensive, tell the other they are overreacting, and then try to shut them up by insisting the other is trying to get the last word. And then they say they like repartee.

    And Obama didn’t bow.

  • indiedogg

Just for perspective, as to what seems okay today and not okay today. Had a lecturer tonight make the remark, “I mean, you don’t have to agree with everything I say, that’s fine. Who do you know who you agree with (her grammar, not mine) 100% of the time.”

And continuing (this is the good part):

“I mean, except for The Messiah, Barack Obama, I agree with everything that man says.”

No, I’m not making this up. That is a verbatim quote.

But, I have to say, one piece of good news (assuming the group wasn’t in shock and unable to move) — there was no applause — 6 months ago, there most certainly would have been.

    After all, this is Hollywood.

Where there is no star bigger than the “O”.

  • beebop

    And Obama didn’t bow.

    Than why bring it up?

    You crack me up!

  • beebop

Issues which are obviously too complex for you to wrap your small mind around. Thanks for clarifying that for all of us. :)

  • beebop

OH GOD …. I laughed so hard. THank goodness I had finished my coffee!

  • DAB

I agree that any jokes that Obama makes about his own supposed Godly status fall flat and don’t really work as self deprecation. They might be funny if told by others, but not by him.

  • NomNomNom

She is right. Can you think of another reason men demean each other with comparisons to women?
    didn’t think so.

  • DAB

I used to watch the Correspondent’s Dinner during the Clinton years, and Bill was always great. The only channel that carried the event then (and also I think during the Bush years) was C-Span. There were always clips of the event on the MSM the next day but this year I noticed that it was carried live on all three cable channels.

I only saw the tail end of Obama’s monologue and didn’t laugh once. The jokes weren’t all that bad but his delivery just didn’t work for me. I heard today that his one-liners consisted of a variety of staffer contributions while Clinton actually had a writer develop his scripts into a coherent whole.

Of course, the Press ate up Obama’s presentation lock stock and barrel. Joe Scarborough mockingly said that the room was just so full of love for him. I ask what other possible choice did they have?

  • ConfusedAmerican

Whats really strange is that if any joke like that had been made about Obama—Sykes and other celebs that think Obama is the invincible would be screaming foul–racism and etc.

  • C.S.

So this is what passes as mirth in Obamaland, jokes comparing Soertoro/Obama critics with Muslim hijackers who killed so many of our loved ones; as if the New York flyover wasn’t reminder enough from this abominable administration! And Sykes’ callous performance certainly puts her in the group of people loyal to a person and not to country – now that’s treason!

And the mystery man with a dozen alias seems to think he won the lotto, proving that he knows nothing about the office he bought.

We’ve had some bad examples of politicians and media over the past decade or so and I was hoping it was a nightmare we would wake from in 2008 but this horror movie just won’t go away and they keep adding bit part players like Sykes to remind us that we haven’t lived through the worst of it yet.

We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. When the loyal opposition dies, I think the soul of America dies with it. ~Edward R. Murrow (a real journalist)

  • Diana

The problem is she out and out lied. Many in the audience knew she did and laughed about it anyway. You just lied UBM. I am no Rush fan by any means, but that is not what Rush said. He said his policies. He never said him, or this country. She crossed the line. By laughing about it, they also crossed the line, everyone of them. A liar and a thief walk hand in hand.

To wish kidney failure on anyone is disgusting. My father just died of kidney failure at Christmas. That comment angers me, the fact that you thought it was funny angers me even more. My father didn’t have to die. He had 9 children that were more than willing to give him a kidney, but he refused to take one of our kidneys when there are so many that haven’t even begun to live their lives that need one. Could you or any at that roast possibly sink any lower than to find humor in human suffering?

The consequence of 0bama’s policies failing is the country failing. I think 0bama’s policies and himself, personally, WILL fail. I will be surprised if his administration doesn’t fail. BUT I hope they don’t because I don’t want the consequences. Rush made an error in not using this type of logic. Wanda was merely pointing out the flaw in Rush’s drug addled brain.

It’s Wanda Sykes, so what do you expect from this mental midget of a so-called commedienne?!!
She, like so many ‘funny’ performers, have no sense of correctness, decency or civility. Let’s see how she likes it when she’s the butt of unkind words.

And for Obama to laugh at this just shows where he comes from and what his true values are. You were expecting appropriate behavior from him? Nah.

  • andrew 191

Well, since 0bama supporters like UBM seem to enjoy watching this country get sodomized by “The One” we’ve apparently been waiting for, I hope UBM is sodomized by a bull elephant……….”How about that?”

Yes UBM, I can see why YOU might think that the way Wanda “punctuated it”, she effectively shed herself of any accusations of being a stupid, boring, and shameless hack. In fact, from now on, asking “How about that?” could be the way to neutralize ALL disgusting public statements.

0bama is a drug riddled, Narcissistic, America hating, union fellating, pathological liar!………How about that?

    HEY! IT WORKS!

  • http://undercoverblackman.blogspot.com Undercover Black Man

Absolutely right, alibe. If Rush had said, “Obama is destined to fail”… no problem. But to say “I want him to fail” is to wish a lot of misery on American citizens.

I agree Ms. Sykes crossed the line; however, she is not part of the Administration. She is a comedian. Were you as outraged when Ms. Ann Coulter said, “We need somebody to put rat posion in {[Surpreme Court Justice]Steven’s creme brulee.” The Bush Administration did not condemn that remark.

  • andrew 191

Since Rush, and a rapidly increasing enlightened group of Americans, realize that 0bama and his policies are destuctive and will create historic misery, hoping for his failure is the same as hoping for American success. 0bama is the one pushing for a collapse of the U.S., he’s the enemy, and I hope our enemy fails.

Which part was funny? The part where she conjures up the image of hijack planes committing atrocious acts and saying Rush had something to do with it or waterboarding him? I don’t like Rush and I don’t like BO. But the hypocrisy by these “liberals” is such BS.

  • ExcellentOutcome

Yes, you are making it up.

  • JozefAL

No, Larry, the Bush Administration didn’t have to make any personal attacks on their adversaries. They were willing to let their cronies do all the dirty work.
Or have you forgotten the reaction to Bill Maher’s cowardice comment? (Maher didn’t call anyone a coward, but that didn’t stop the right-wing noise machine from attacking him.)
Or maybe Natalie Maines’ comment on her embarassment at Dubya’s being from Texas? (Hell, Natalie was told by some media loudmouths that she should just “shut up and sing” while also receiving numerous death threats.)
Also, I’m incredibly amused at how so many Rushbots can’t seem to get it that Wanda is an “entertainer”. Isn’t that how THEY usually defend most of Rush’s outrageous comments? Wanda was being no less outrageous than most of what passes from Rush’s mouth. Either you defend Wanda and Rush having the right to be EQUALLY outrageous or you deny them the right to be EQUALLY outrageous. One isn’t allowed to be more outrageous than the other (and this comes from someone who finds neither one to be particularly entertaining).

We who supported Hillary saw this side of Obama all too well in the Primary. PBO himself gave Hillary and also McCain the finger in public on stage and raised his arrogant nose in the air with pure joy at the thought of what he had done.

My six year old grandson has more class then PBO ever will have. PBO is a spoiled little boy and a bully who gets even with anyone in his way (there are lots of bodies under the bus to prove that point).

PBO has absolutely no intention of bringing people together; he constantly wants to remind his minions to hate those who challenge him in any way.

We saw that all to clearly before he became POTUS and now that he is POTUS he is even more intent on painting those who do not support him as the evil ones that need to be destroyed (this includes anyone who gets in his way).

Well, UBM your sense of humor SUCKS!

Again, you cite comments made by Rush Limbaugh and don’t back them up with proof. Put up or shut up.

I thought it was totally wrong how Natalie Maines got death threats over her remark. Free speech.

But I wonder if you would be defending the Sykes remarks if they had been made about a black person or Obama? I doubt it.

Thank you! Finally! While reading hundreds of comments on this epic failure of a comedy act, I was looking for someone to point this out. It’s such a simple concept, but it seems to have escaped the Obots et al.

But his raunchy remarks brought embarrassment to Obama. You don’t embarrassment the Man… and live long to tell about it.

    Whoa Andrew:

Faux Black Man would like that waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy to much.

    Stop the wantfest UBM:-)

    P.S. Knock, knock

    beebop -

the “Obama didn’t bow” was a lie I threw in there to highlight the lie immediately preceding it…

Like, if your husband came home and said he caught a fish “this big!”, and you rolled your eyes and said “and I’m 7 feet tall!”

I, like many of the Clinton supporters before Obamanots entered the political circus, thought that Rush was a dirty name. But this opinion came from ignorance. I had never listened to him live. I only heard his opponents views of him. It turns out that at the same time I stopped listening to Hillary’s opponents I started listening to Rush. Well, what do you know. He wasn’t evil after all. As a matter of fact, he was interesting. He pointed out facts and ideas that made sense. I liberated myself from being a tunneled so called “progressive” to an open minded citizen. If you are afraid of hearing another point of view, and you try to shut down opposing viewpoints, then you can not be called progressive or liberal. You can only be called bigotted. I think that before you all critize Limbaugh you should at least listen to him. He reads articles, the ones Obamanots do not want you to hear about, from all over the country and the world. He is informative. I don’t always agree with his views, but isn’t that what democracy is all about. I don’t hear hate from him. But I do hear and see hate from the Obamanots. They seem to want to shut down the opposition just like they shut down Hillary supporters by using tactics like name calling (racists). Greta sometimes features Rush’s comments on her evening program. These are sometimes her best segments. Before you say you can’t stand Rush, try listening to what he says and not what his opponents say about him. I did and I am glad I did. I don’t care if the likes of Sykes Gerafalo want to label me as a racist. I know the meaning of a racist and they ought to look at the mirror. It’s closer to home than they think.

You are right. She crossed the line. She should have made a joke about Rush coming back from the Dominican Republic with a bunch of guys in a private plane and customs finding Viagra in his suitcase.

What was he doing in the Dominican Republic, with a bunch of guys, with Viagra?

Now that would have been funny.

    Kudos to your post!

Just like you, I had shared the same views of Rush even though I had not listened to him. My views were formed by the so called “progesssive” Dems. After supporting Hillary and McCain, I became a fan of Rush, Hannity, and Levin. They speak the truth!
