So, why shouldn’t we have just determined ahead of time which were the most important states to win, and just held primaries in the ones which really count like Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida? Forget about Missouri, Wisconsin, Virginia… as well as any state that’s too black, or too urban, or too Republican. Save the expense and time. The primary season could have been much shorter, and Hillary would be the nominee. It’s so easy! Except for the fact that the Democratic party MIGHT want to be DEMOCRATIC….

That’s all Hillary is asking for: ‘Let my people vote’ and ‘Count every Vote’. Nothing ‘Democratic’ about not counting the MI and FL votes.

Problem is Howard and Donna have swallowed the Kool-Aid. They really believe Barry can win.

But in the GE a timid, fumbling, ill-prepared Barry will take three strikes:

Wright, Rezko and Auchi and whiff them all.

And frankly if President McSame is what we have to put up with to get rid of…

Other David: Nobody’s saying we shouldn’t count the votes in the red states, but the Superdelegates job is to help select the candidate that has the best chance of winning the electoral college in November. It would be moronic for them to ignore issues of electability and just go with the pledged delegate leader in a race this close. It’s up to them to make the judgment and cast their vote, whatever it may be. If it’s enough to make up the difference in pledged delegates, then obviously there are some concerns about Barack McGov…Obama that they believed posed an overwhelming threat to our chances in November. Wolfson is just making his case to the SDs, just as I’m sure Obama is as well.

The DNC seems to forget that BO won mostly caucus states which are hardly representative of the base or how the states will go in the GE. He couldn’t close the deal in the states with the most electoral votes, nor did he win important swing states.
All candidates were on the ballot in FL. In MI., a deal was made between Obama, Edwards, Biden, & Richardson to take their names off of the ballot. They waited until the last minute, in fact, they almost missed the deadline. You can draw your own conclusions as to why they did it. However, the DNC did not require them to remove their names from the ballot. I do not think it was because of honor or conscience.
We will not win FL. if the delegates are not counted, no matter what BO decides is “fair”.

i don’t think the dnc forgets. i think they know exactly what they’re doing. they set up the system to get the nomination for obama, with the early scheduling of south carolina, the punishment of florida and michigan, the public anti-hillary pronouncements while maintaining a pretense of neutrality, etc.

The conservative in me is overjoyed, but the moderate in me isn’t — because without a strong checks and balances in government, we’ll get more Bush in the future.

Wish the Dems would have the backbone to march up to the convention and demand Hillary to be the nominee, for not only to win the presidency; to ensure the Democrat party is a viable alternative to the GOP.

Th decision for BO to be the nominee was made in 2004. They knew Sen. Clinton would run, what better way to diminish her chances than to make her run against the first AA? The DNC couldn’t nominate a completely unknown, inexperienced candidate for president-it would be ludicrous. That’s why the road to the senate was paved for him. If you remember, he was invited to make the keynote speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention. Such an honor is always given to a important party leader, not a small time state legislator. That speech was the guarantee for his election to the senate and thus the presidency.

I’ve been reading some old Democracy For America articles, and I didn’t realize how active they were in supporting Obama and Edwards over Hillary Clinton, especially in Iowa.

They implied that Hillary Clinton was not a “progressive” and that Iowans should not split their vote between the two progressive candidates (Obama and Edwards). When Obama and Edwards won 1st and 2nd in Iowa, they declared that progressives had won. It’s like this whole primary has been nothing but a scheme to destroy Hillary Clinton’s chances for the presidency.

I’ve long known that Dean preferred Obama (he’s part of his Dean Dozen), but I’m finally starting to see just how extensive Dean’s meddling has been throughout this primary. Dean is on a major power-trip and he should be removed from the DNC. And I used to like the guy.

Exactly David. I find it absolutely incredible that Hillary supporters really think that superdelegates should just overturn the will of the people to install Clinton as the Dem. nominee. First of all – why even have a nomination process? Why even vote if the votes don’t count? Second of all if they think they are angry about Obama winning then they should see how angry people would be about the nomination being taken away from Obama for no good reason. That would cause a serious revolt among people who otherwise would have no problem supporting Clinton. That would just be too dirty, too low down. It would destroy the Democratic party.

That’s what it comes down to – Does Clinton care more about her party/country or does she care more about her own ego & ambition. The sense of entitle she (and her supporters) are showing is astonishing. It takes the term “sore loser” to the next level.

Barack Obama is not winning because he’s black. He’s winning because he’s the best candidate. I’m white – I support him over Clinton because of the issues, because of his ability to speak (which is very very important in politics. “just words” indeed!) and because of his judgment (war on Iraq, Gas Tax holiday)… I also support him because he seems to be an honest man who actually thinks about the issues to come up with the best answer rather than just giving the politically expedient answer all the time.

I think Dean sees a possibility for a HUGE Democratic landslide this November powered by combination of Barack Obama and the enormous excitement and fund raising he is bringing to the Democratic party and of course by the extreme distaste for George W. Bush. I think it’s very possible that Obama could beat McCain by double digits with a 60% Democratic Senate & Congress. Then this country could finally move in a progressive way – to catch up with the rest of the world on issues like health care. This is a time of excitement for true progressives.

Dean has been very meddlesome in the democratic primary, and I find that completely unacceptable. He has done everything in his power to throw roadblocks in front of Hillary Clinton’s candidacy. I find his behavior disturbing and highly improper.

I agree 100%. I feel like this entire primary has been a sham orchestrated by Howard Dean and his minions. Obama was going to be the nominee no matter what because Dean was going to subvert the process in every way possible. He’s obviously been planning it for some time. I was tricked into believing this was an actual primary.

As a result, I no longer have any loyalty to the democratic party. And yet I loathe the republican party. I’ve lost all representation with this takeover. THAT is why I am glad Hillary Clinton is staying in the race. Maybe she can still stop them.

Today I got an email from a Republican friend. The subject was McCain’s wife — an article about her. Ha — after reading all that Cindy McCain has done — SHE would be a better choice for President than Obama.

What is interesting about this email is that the Republicans don’t have even make the link that I did — you automatically think — o.k. so what has Obama done to give him the experience and training to be President of the US. NOTHING.

I’m glad now that I maintained my friendship with Republicans because they send me “informative” email which gives me an idea how the GOP machine is going to operate in the GE. I also know that the GOP has dug very deeply into Obama’s past — and they are just waiting for the chance to unload some major bombshells and skeletons in Obama’s closets. I know because I read part of a GOP generated email over a year ago — and I deleted the email — thinking that someone had hired a really bad script writer. Ah Rezko the slum Lord — true. And Obama’s connection to Ayers — true. Damn — too bad I deleted that email.

I expect that we will be hearing more about Cindy McCain in the weeks to come.

I am from Florida and I will be waiting for her to make TRUE her promise to work for me as the president of the United States. As she said, these are the countries that have DOLLARS flowing out the ground, and they all want to buy nuclear weapons. “Assured Massive Destruction” of enemies, and a protective umbrella for non-nuke allies, is the best way to prevent a nuclear arms race among ALL the middle eastern countries.

Dowd and Rich did nothing but say disparaging things against Gore in the run-up to the 2000 election. If things were going really well in this country, and we had a leader with the expertise to get things done for all Americans, then Frank Rich would be off reviewing Gilbert and Sullivan revivals and Dowd would have to sit up in her townhouse in Georgetown and determine why men will sleep with her but never marry her. IF Dems will finally oust the DNC deadweight that continues to push the wrong candidates. Just look at the leadership — none who are connected to anything but their elitist network. They lose the South, as there’s no Southern representation — even the Clintons moved to NY. As a former Democrat since Brazile dis-invited me to the Party Tuesday night, I will say that I accept the results of the actual Primaries. It is the Caucus’ states and states that had “open primaries” allowing the Republicans to game the results that have left me befuddled as to the make-up of the DNC leadership. Not to mention the racist attacks that weren’t defended by people who should know better, Richardson, Kerry, Kennedy. You really do have to think that this is a perfect time for a third party to take power. I’m ready to join up.

Please bear in mind there are contemporaneous battles to be fought, both public and private with differing subject matter made by different people.

The Clinton campaign is making its case to the delegates. The delegates decide the outcome. The delegates are very much aware of the “irregularities” in this election and factor those in. Every “irregularity” uncovered that can be linked to Obama malfeasance further helps the Clinton campaign to make its case. The work done by pro-Hillary bloggers will give the Clinton campaign the extra umph it needs to secure the nomination.

Do you remember how you felt after Hillary had her resoundingly massive victory in Pennsylvania? Hold on to that feeling, it will propel you and your candidate to victory. Don’t give in to the temptation to fall into despair each time there is another hurdle in the path. Remember, the path may be bumpy at times but the path still leads to victory!

Hillary has shown amazing courage under fire, a leadership quality one absolutely has to have to be our Commander-in-chief. Hillary’s opponent eats a waffle and can’t debate her and thinks he is so cool he can just coast to victory. We as Hillary supporters must show the same courage under fire. I still cannot get over the Democratic Party leaders basically telling large numbers of their own members that the party care about their votes. These fools are perfectly willing to alienate Dems from Michigan, Florida, white women, older people, etc. Obama as much as said we older Dems are irrelevant, passe, when he recently said the choice was between the past and the future.

Democrats have repeatedly lost because they look so weak on defense. If you listen to all Hillary says, this is part of her plan to limit the proliferation of nukes in the mideast. First she is giving Iran fair warning that it will do them no good to even have nukes because it would be suicide to use them.
Second this is a plan to keep the other mideast states from getting their own nukes for protection if Iran has them by forming an security umbrella group with these states. By guaranteeing that we will protect them from a nuclear strike from Iran in exchange for forgoing nuclear weapons, we would make it much less likely that nuclear weapons will get into the hands of terrorists. (The more countries that have nukes, the more likely they will get passed to terrorists.)
Rogue nations will never cooperate with us if they are not convinced that we will stand up to them. Right now a lot of players are betting that we are so weakened by Iraq that they can do pretty much what they want. Letting the world know that we will not stand by and let our allies get nuked is not reckless – appearing weak is.

If Iran and other mideast countries believe we would not strike back if Iran attacked Israel, then there is no deterrent or incentive to cooperate with us.

Watch Fox News, as unpleasant as that is, and you will get a taste of what the right wingers are planning to throw at Obama. They are all over things like Ayers, Rezko, etc. and they are not making stuff up the way they had to with Gore and Kerry. Yours is too simple an argument — all states, all votes count. However, at the end of the day, the big question is who won the states that matter most electorally in the GE. I would actually welcome a democratic candidate who will win those red states and turn them blue. But historical evidence suggests that it is not an easy task. On the other hand, some states do go either way. It is only smart to focus your limited resources on such states. Running a campaign everywhere requires money and people. Before you say Obama has that, I want to point out that he is no longer that magical messiah who would turn red into blue, not with all his baggage of Wright, Ayers — GoP will eat him for lunch and at the end of that process, people in those red states would have walked away from him (if they have not already done so.)

Hillary appeals to me because she is willing to consider the bipolar nature of our country and form a consensus that does its best for all peoples.

I urge all of you to write to media outlets complaining about them pressuring Hillary to get out now. There is only ONE MONTH LEFT before the last primary. These people also deserve to have a vigorous campaign for once. The media does not truly believe in democracy which is often messy. They bemoaned the low level of voting in this country for years but the minute people get engaged they swoon over the divisiness. They seem to prefer a Russian-style “democracy” where elections are decided in advance. Much more civilized.

If the media stopped saying how divisive this process is and started saying how healthy it is for our democracy, it would not be damaging for Dems because it would make it clear that we are the party that welcomes true democratic processes. Republican leaders like to select a candidate in advance then sell it to the public the way they did with Bush. Dems traditionally are more democratic. For this they get ridiculed because the process is more messy.
This year has seen a weird reversal. Democratic leaders have tried to annoint Obama and push others out, while Republicans got stuck with McCain who is not a party player. If the media understood how true democracy works they would welcome the fact that the public is not willing to passively allow the elite to choose their candidates for them.

Obama lost Indiana when he should have won and of course he won NC that was a no brainer. Hillary picked up 13% more delegates during the county convention and will pick up more during the state convention on the 17th of this month, that is when either Hillary or obama can claim any delegates from my state of Colorado. Well, Gore flew over the cuckoo’s nest awhile ago with his “global warming” push (just wait for the mini Ice Age coming down the pipe. The solar cycle 24 has been usually bare of sunspots, dropping global temps by 7c from January alone [biggest thermal loss in recent memory]. Unfortunately how the media presents candidates matters. If people like us tune them out instead of paying attention and complaining to them the media will never change.

The media sold Bush to the American people in 2000 by going along with the right wing’s trashing of Gore with lies and by overlooking the serious issues in Bush’s past and his character flaws. The American people would never have elected Bush had they been given accurate pictures of both candidates. The irresponsibility of our media gave us this disastrous presidency which has negatively affected all of our lives and the stability of the entire world.

If we want to see a change in our politics, we need to keep paying attention to the media, as frustrating as that is, and start speaking up. The right wing has been doing this for years, flooding shows, networks and print outlets with complaints whenever their people or positions get criticized. Democrats and their leaders have sat passively by and allowed this to happen with the result that we get much harsher treatment. That is why even though polls consistently show the majority of Americans are much closer to Democrats’ position on issues, we keep losing elections.

If we want a healthy democracy we must fight hard to change this by pressuring the media to be objective, truthful and substantive. People have fought and died to protect our freedoms. The least we can do is fight back against the media.

Obama ran against one of the strongest candidates in history. Huge name recognition, capable and smart, lots of the Democratic leadership behind her (huge superdelegate lead at the beginning). Obama’s inability to close the deal isn’t because of his weakness but her strength, especially when you have a popular former President going to all these small towns and making direct appeals to people – how much of an advantage is that??

I think it’s very possible that Obama could beat McCain by double digits with a 60% Democratic Senate & Congress.

To do that he would have to seriously rebuild his coalition. Women, seniors, Reagan dems, lunch bucket dems, Latinos and Asian Americans would need to be in that equation in way more significant numbers than Obama is currently polling. Please remember that there are undecided voters still reading these posts, and reading the posts on Obama’s blogs, which are noticably more respectful of Hillary’s campaign (with some exceptions, obviously). If you want to show your support for either candidate on the blogs, do so by presenting reasonable, thoughtful, g-rated, and positive comments. Otherwise, you’re running the risk of contributing to the “negative tone” of the campaign that has turned off so many undecided voters in recent weeks. Neither candidate will have the required number of pledged delegates needed to win the nomination prior to the convention. That leaves the decision in the hands of super delegates. Hillary is the best qualified candidate. She must stay in the race. We must not let anyone push her out. Hillary has solid plans for improving the economy, ensuring health care for all, safely withdrawing our troops from Irak, protecting the environment, and improving access to quality education from Head Start to Graduate School. We must start a petition of some sort and send it to important political figures that will get it to the superdelegates. I was ripped to shreds the other day, although I like Hillary, for reminding people that 2 or 3 Supreme Court Justices will be decided by the next President. Yes, they need to be confirmed. However, they eventually get through. This is not about the abortion issue. That issue is used by the Republicans to divide voters, so I don’t think it will come before the SC. But, other issues will. For example, Ledbetter (sp?) vs. Goodyear. Look it up. She got screwed by the conservative court for not being aware of pay discrimination at the time of each raise compared to the male employees at Goodyear. Case after case will go by way of the corporation. It is a bigger deal than many realize. McCain flipped on torture, flipped on immigration. Even if he doesn’t go with Scalias and Thomases, they will still push the court more to the right.

And, by the way, Obama and Clinton both voted “Nay” on John Roberts.

I am so disgusted listening to these people that are telling Senator Clinton to give up and drop out of the race for the Presidential nomination. Senator Clinton won Pennsylvania with a large margin and this has been practically ignored. She just won Indiana. She won Ohio. She has won MAJOR states in this race. I find it so disheartening that past supportors are telling her to quit when she won the necessary states to win in November. Hilary is not a quitter. She is a winner. People generally know generally that Caucuses Stink, but no one knows this specific huge number of suppressed, cheated housebound older-women votes, the Greatest Story Ever Untold about the 2008 election.

The punch line is that in Texas, Hillary’s voters were plus 4 in the Primary and minus 12 in the caucus on the same day. A 16% swing! Suppose we’d only seen the caucus results in Texas? As we did in Iowa and all the other caucus states. Fie, you should cry, For Shame.

Both Hillary and BO were on the Florida ballot. Additionally, Barack did have commercials running in Florida prior to the Florida primary and they stopped immediatly after the primary vote. BO stated that the commercials were shown on CNN and they could not avoid it due to the national market. So why did CNN stop showing those commercials right after the Florida primary. It would seem to me that if it was a national market buy the commercials would of continued in Florida. So BO did campaign in Florida and when he lost he decided that Florida didn’t matter!!!! Folks. Maybe my idea for a petition to superdelegates wasn’t a great idea, but we can and must write to supers. I have begun that process and even have found a letter from some Obama supporters that they wrote, which actually worked. We must copy this and alter it with our reasons why Hillary should be the nominee, plus tell them we will not vote for Obama. We must let them know by not nominating Hillary, they are losing the core voting blocs he needs to win in November. This is the last critical phase in this long, grinding process. It is in the supers hands, but it is now in our hands to tell them to make the only right choice.

The focus is to win the November election against John M. Any meaningful argument can be made to support a candidate’s case to win these states based on their record in these states and proven voting record of these states. This is the argument that any super delegate for the party would care to weigh against.

Obama –
Advantages:Smart, plans well.
Disadvantages: Not a lot of experience and visibility on what he has accomplished – so far. The press has really done us public a disfavour in not providing us the right information.
Troubling: Appears to treat the primaries like a class exam.

Clinton -
Advantages: Learnt Knowledge of US and world leadership; Learns quickly; adoptable and pursues goals with a zeal like no other. Appears to be have well prepared health care reform plan.

DisAdvantages: Some of her Populist policies appear to pander to people.
Troubling: None.

If I were to handle this hiring for the top US job, I would want to know more about Obama’s past accomplishments. It must have brought significant benefits to the people that depended on him.

The same goes for Mrs. Clinton and would ask some tough questions about some of her policies.

Primary: Jesse Jackson
General Election: Walter Mondale (I liked Mondale tepidly, but knew he was a good man and approved of him; if he had gotten in there, he’d have made a fine President)

1988

Primary: Jesse Jackson
General Election: the Swift-boated Michael Dukakis (I liked Dukakis a bit better than Mondale and felt sorry for him; like Mrs. Clinton, Dukakis was treated _horribly_ by the media. Shamefully bad.)

1992

I was very upset at Dan Rostenkowski of Illinois, and refused to vote for any Democrat that year. I voted for Ross Perot; cannot remember whom I voted for in the primary.

1996

I was still mad at most of the Congressional Democrats for putting up with Rostenkowski; I voted for Perot again

2000

Primary: Al Gore
General: Al Gore (I really liked Gore)

2004

Primary: Howard Dean (although I really liked John Edwards and supported him after the primary, after Dean was out)
General: John Kerry (though I didn’t care for him, because he had Edwards as his VP candidate)

2008:

Primary: Hillary Clinton!
General — I will only vote for Hillary Clinton as the Democratic Party’s nominee!

Senator Clinton only agreed not to campaign in Florida or Michigan — and she didn’t, while Barack Obama had ads appearing in Florida and robocalls going into Michigan urging people to “vote uncommitted.” (That’s why “uncommitted” got 40% of the vote in Michigan.)

I am for Barack Obama getting the 40% uncommitted that he robocalled for; Senator Clinton should get her votes.

In Florida, where there’s a Republican Legislature and a Republican Governor, and both of those overruled the state’s Democratic Party (which didn’t want an earlier primary) — there’s no excuse as to why the DNC hasn’t counted all of those votes.

Votes trump rules.

Our country was founded because people disliked “taxation without representation.”

Well, at this point, we have voters who have been ticked off because they’ve been totally disenfranchised. They went out in record numbers in Michigan and again in Florida and deserve to be counted; it’s not the voters fault for any perceived shortcomings in the Democratic Party. They did their part.

But the DNC has not done theirs. They have exacerbated the voter’s pain, and at this point, if Hillary Clinton — the able, experienced, well-qualified candidate who has a large majority of the Admirals and four star Generals in her camp for a good reason — isn’t the candidate, Michigan probably won’t go for Obama and Florida never will. And we need both of those states.

I also believe that Obama will lose in Ohio and Pennsylvania in November. (Especially Pennsylvania.)

The DNC would rather tick off its very real base of women voters, older voters, working class voters, Hispanic voters, middle-class voters and centrist voters by deciding this election based on twelve caucus states — some of which will never go for the Democrat in the fall no matter how awful the Republican candidate is. (And make no mistake — McCain, as a moderate Republican, is not awful. he’s probably the best Republican candidate the Republicans have put up in the past twenty years.) I don’t want Utah or Idaho deciding this race for Barack Obama, a man I believe is unelectable in the general election. Flat unelectable.

And for those of you who seem to think he’s a saint — well, we need a President, not a saint. (And I have news; I doubt Barack Obama is a saint.)

I am obviously a supporter of Hillary Clinton, Lou, but hadn’t heard about that.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. Obama is going down in November. It won’t take many of us in key battle ground states to flip the election to Mc Cain. I believe the election will be won or loss in the 65+ age demographic. As a volunteer for the HRC camp… the one comment I heard over and over from seniors was that Obama was scarry.
They want surety at this stage in their lives and not a non substantive message of change.

What about Hillary running as an independent?

Dream on!!!!!!!He might secure the nomination, but he will lose the general election. He will lose because he cannot win the swing states where the people are. All credible analysis and march up polling shows that Obama will lose the general election. Furthermore, the more people learn about him, the more independent support he loses to McCain. More importantly, Obama will have to win too many small red and swing states in order to make up for losing Ohio and Florida to McCain. Pennsylvania and Michigan are a toss-up right now, which is also a problem for Barry. Pannsylvania has 21 electoral delegates and MI has 17. He cannot afford to lose either of these states. Currently, he isn’t polling well against McCain in Pa. or MI. Refusing to hold revotes in MI so the peoples vote could count during the primary, will hurt him there in November.

Ohio and Florida have a combined total of 47 electoral delegates. Berry’s states possibly in play are Virginia w/15, Colorado w/9, Minn.w/10, Iowa w/7, WI w/7, Navada w/5, NM w/4. Forget the south, they’re staying red. Berry would have to flip 6 to 10 of these smaller red and purple states in order to equal the electoral value of Ohio and Florida. The risks of having to win so many more states in order to secure the presidency, puts Berry at an imperical disadvantage. The more risk, the greater the probability for failure. The more states, the more risk.

Furthuremore, some of these states have been solid red states for a long time, like Colorado, Navada, Va., etc.. It’s very unlikely that he will be able to win all these states. No other democrat in history has been able to!!!!!!!Bottom Line is that a democrat can’t win without the rust belt, and Berry isn’t connecting well with the working class white folks in Ohio, Penn., and MI!!!!

Berry will prove to be a ball and chain on the ticket.
