Not all of us Obama supporters say those vile things. I agree that there has been some unnecessary hatred and sexism from some of Obama's online supporters, just as there is some unnecessary hatred towards Obama here and at other sites. I am a woman and an Obama supporter but I have consistently stood up against sexist remarks leveled at her. I certainly think David Shuster's comments and other demeaing comments about Chelsea are way out of bounds. I know Clinton supporters in real life who will defend Obama against charges that he is a Muslim or anti-American, just as I have defended Hillary against sexist crap or drudged up crap from the 90's like Vince Foster. Not every Obama supporter hates Hillary, just for the record.

Susan, he can certainly still be derailed.

I have many sites and links concerning his campaign and supporters that have received no attention. Cannot post them without first having someone mirror them, I do not know how. Afraid they will take them down.

If acceptable, I would be willing to e-mail you and Larry re such. The info needs more than just posting in comments. Blog articles could be done re much of it.

I am not much of a blog commenter, mostly a reader. However, I have pretty good knack for finding obscure information.

There are stil unasked and unanswered questions like the one posed below:

"Will Iva Carruthers be the next Wright for Obama? as far as I know she is still on his campaign committee.

“Wright isn’t the only controversial member of Obama’s church. Dr. Iva Carruthers, who describes herself as an active member of the church, is an outspoken advocate of reparations for blacks and was a participant in N’COBRA’s 2004 conference.

Carruthers was identified, along with Wright, as a member of Obama’s African American Religious Leadership Committee. Wright has since been dropped from the group. But Carruthers is sometimes referred to as a spokesman for Wright and works with him closely.

Indeed, Carruthers may be even more controversial, especially on the issue of reparations. She wrote The Church and Reparations―An African American Perspective, which was reportedly “distributed by her denomination” at the 2001 U.N. World Conference Against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance. The conference was considered so extreme that the U.S. delegation, led by then-Secretary of State Colin Powell, walked out.”

She was also Wright’s representive at the following meeting in 2004.

Ndaba: ?A great sitting-down?

CHICAGO (FinalCall.com) - There?s a certain moment in time, that if leaders have the wisdom to see and seize it, they can make a historic turn in the lives of their people. Such a moment was the July 26 summit on reparations, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan said as he opened the meeting held at the Salaam Restaurant.
Nearly 50 activists from across the country answered the call to discuss operational unity and a consolidation of efforts, in order to enhance and fortify the movement for reparations for Black people?s suffering in the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

“The principle of reparations is the one great principle that we all can unite around,” Min. Farrakhan stated in his opening remarks. “Religion has not united us. Politics has not united us. Our economic needs have not united us. Our Blackness has not united us.

“But in the principle of reparations, all of us have a stake in it and see the value of it and know that if we unite today on the basis of reparations, then our children and our children?s children can be the beneficiaries of what happens today and from this day forward.”

Gathered together in the Ashanti practice of the principle of consensus, the “big sitting-down”?or ndaba, as the South African Nguni call it?was the fruition of the vision of Dr. Conrad Worrill, the national chairman of the National Black United Front (NBUF).

The church, the courts, the community
Representing Trinity Church and its pastor Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Dr. Iva Carruthers spoke of equipping ministers beyond worship, and enabling them to effectively network, empower people and impact policy. Within the next year, she intends on working with over 400 preachers, with a focus on connecting theology, technology and transnational public advocacy. She termed it: “intentional communication.”

Much of the consolidated case is based on human rights precedents of crimes against humanity, but another strong component of the legal argument is consumer protection law. This will enable the litigation team to challenge the companies on the basis of their lying to the public in denials that they have no connection to the slavery, because the team has gained possession of documents that show the companies? involvement.

Since the consolidated lawsuits are set for a Chicago courthouse, Attorney Lionel Jean Baptiste, who is representing a Chicago plaintiff, has been thrust to the forefront of the legal team. However, he cautioned the summit that the legal battle cannot stand alone in the fight for reparations.

“We understand that we are in an arena that has been set up by the slave master,” he said, “We will not win in that arena, unless we step it up in the streets, unless the political fight is brought to bear.”

great comment by commenter chancellor over at talkleft:

[A]s I see it, this year, the will of the voters is going to mean less than the power struggle going on within the Beltway Dems--aided and abetted by some in the blogosphere. The Mountain States are seen by these "new coalition" Dems as representing the best opportunity to counter the Southern Strategy of the Repubs.

As best I can tell, there are many in the Dem party who would like to write off the South entirely as an electoral strategy. This would mean being able to throw out the influence of the Carters, the Gores and the Clintons. Of course, they can't do this without replacement states to make up the votes. What they're hoping is that they can cobble together enough Libertarians in the Mountain States and the border states, such as Virginia and Missouri, to re-draw the electoral map. Obama is the candidate that they chose to draw these voters into the Dem fold.

The problem is that the big electoral votes are still in states where the voter demographics favor Clinton. IMO, the neo-Libertarians will do anything to stop Clinton in order to execute the first part of their strategy--including taking a loss in the GE, as long as they think they can pick up the congressional races. They're trying to prove a point here, IMO, whether or not it means winning back the White House. There's also a problem in that Libertarians are not Democrats, so we are seeing a fight not just for votes but for values. . . .

My guess is that they believe it's now or never, and that due to the state of the economy, the Iraq war/occupation and Bush's approval ratings, this is the time for the coup.

BTW, I do believe it is an attempt at an internal coup. IMO, the comments by Brazile were a slip-up in her anger--we weren't supposed to know that we were being told to go to the back of the bus and stay there, at least not until November. However, now that the plan is out there, you have people like Chris Bowers and Matt Stoller extolling the virtues of the new, neo-Libertarian party, formerly known as the Democrats. Maybe they think we'll change our minds once they tell us how wonderful everything is going to be under the new order. It's Animal Farm redux, best I can tell.

and as an FDR/WJC dem, you can bet i'm pissed the hell off at this shit. obama's a 3rd party impostor trying to hijack the democratic party. i'm so angry i could spit nails.

That is an encouraging analysis. Any ideas on ways we can get it to the Superdelegates who seem to be rolling over for Obama?

Thank you for the link. I need some good news right now.

Chris -

I presume you mean me when you say "she." Not sure if I reflect the sentiments of the DP, but I'm not at the point where I believe that Obama and Hitler are on the same level.

Of course you might be right and maybe it IS worse than we thought, or maybe it's time to take a deep breath and calm down and determine if there's sufficient, genuine evidence to support your feelings about Obama.

Remember, many folks who oppose Hillary hold the pathological belief that she killed Vince Foster and drinks the blood of the young. They are nutso, and I DO NOT want to sink to that level of paranoia or irrationality.

Thanks, S. Hall. I haven't read "Dreams of My Father," yet. I'd rather not give Obama any royalties by purchasing it, so may check out the library or peruse at my local bookstore.

Uncle Sam -

And what makes you so trustworthy or knowledgeable that I should defer to your opinion over the news? So far, you've accused me of trolling, stupidity, and being a moron. Not a very good way to inspire confidence in you as a source.

Actually, our other (governmental) Uncle Sam has lied to us - many times, so you may not want me to answer THAT question.

Meanwhile, I'm for Hillary until she wins (and I mean in November, not just the nomination) or pulls out of the race.

(Still smiling.)

Thank you. Good essay. I checked out some of Melcher's other writings and they were pretty thoughtful as well. What he writes about presidential power and the cult of personality should make us very wary -- perhaps not so much of Obama himself, but of some who support him so blindly.

Uncle Sam -

At first I planned to ignore this comment because it's probably not worth the energy to respond. However, I remember how frustrated I was when John Kerry didn't go directly back at the rotten organization that swiftboated him, so...

You're absolutely wrong when you remark "I think you’re trolling cath, distorting the truth to appear on the side of smart people, but to stupid to understand your technique is obvious."

No trolling on my part. Count on it. And I am not stupid, so don't make that accusation. You do not even know me. In fact, apologizing would be the nobler thing to do.

I came to No Quarter because it provides an alternative to the anti-Hillary bias at other blogs that I used to enjoy (e.g., TPM, Huffington Post, Mark Kleiman). However, it's obvious that people can behave as badly and intolerantly here as at those other sites.

If you want to accuse about trolling, fine. You might even want to get me kicked off because I actually question some of what I read here. That's so very democratic and tolerant.

That said, I still support Senator Clinton until she either wins or says it's over. Accusations of trolling won't change that.

When was your last donation to Hillary's campaign, or when did you last phone bank for her? I donated this afternnon.

Uncle Sam -

I just don't get the "cujo/lakers" remark. Is that supposed to be an insult?

It's easy to call folks names and it's an especially good ploy when one wants to avoid asnwering a question asked in good faith. But in the end, it only signals that some of the folks here are as intolerant and divisive as the Obama supporters they criticize.

learn to thin, reason and read. or shut up.

and since the former 3 can't be expected, just shut up or go chant hymns at obama's pretty pretender site.
