Glenn Greenwald is shocked, SHOCKED, that’s there’s politicking going on. Read it and weep. Buyer’s remorse is setting in.

Meanwhile the Democratic “leaders” like Harry Reid, proving once that the party gets their marching orders from the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Fox News, issued the following moronic statement:

“I can’t make it any more clear,” Reid said. “We will never allow terrorists to be released in the United States.”

Never mind that most of the inmates at Guantanamo haven’t been tried, or that many were sold into captivity by warlords and others eager for the hefty rewards the military was offering for captured “al Qaeda terrorists”. We won’t know who’s guilty of what, if anything, until actual trials are held. Don’t hold your breath.

Hey Harry and other pandering idiots in Congress, ever heard of “Bomber’s Row”?

Zacarias Moussaoui, the 911-hijacking conspirator sentenced to life in prison yesterday, will now become a new resident of the Rocky Mountain West, according to an LA Times story today. Moussaoui will spent the rest of his days high up in the Rockies at the “Supermax” federal maximum-security prison in Florence, Colorado.

Moussaoui will join a notorious collection of prisoners–a veritable terrorist Who’s Who–already serving time in Supermax, including: Ramzi Ahmed Yousef, the key player in the 1993 World Trade Center blast, Unabomber Theodore Kaczynski, Oklahoma City bombing accomplice Terry L. Nichols, “shoe bomber” Richard Reid, and abortion clinic bomber Eric Rudolph.

Incidentally, all the above were tried and found guilty in a court of law. Just sayin’.

    Actually I read Greenwald through the primaries and never got the impression he was enthusiastic about Obama, and after the election he’s been hitting O and the KoolAid gang almost from day one, he’s been cosistently portraying O as Bush-lite on civil liberties issues.

        The comments are like hidden treasures. Wish I had the time to read them all – ALL the time.

        It really exposes the underbelly of what’s holding up the net. AND it’s NOT just teenagers commenting any more. Thankfully. 10 yrs ago that’s literally ALL you’d see. ASL? ASL? ASL? that seemed to be the only thing they were interested in………… glad we’re waking up and participating more as adults.

      Then perhaps your first sentence should have been phrased a little differently, because it certainly sounds critical of Greenwald himself…and Greenwald’s position has been totally consistent for as long as I’ve been reading him. He has been a tireless advocate for the Constitution, the rule of law, and respect for individual rights – no matter which party has held the White House.

      He’s certainly not responsible for the hopium-soaked inanity of some of his readers.

    I have asked before and not received an answer to the issue of accusations of propaganda by Fox news and Limbaugh. Please provide details on what you are referring to.

    Please explain what you mean by Reid’s statement being “moronic”. I sincerely hope you are not suggesting the terrorists be released in the US.

    I think people are not completely informed about what our laws cover for terrorists under Geneva Conventions, although I doubt it would make a difference.

      Since your mind is made up on these subjects based on your own set of facts and biased worldview your question is unworthy of response, but you’re kind of entertaining so I’ll go ahead.

      I have spelled out on many occasions the facts, not spin, on Guantanamo, which you clearly have not read and are not interested in following up on. To review for the about the millionth time: Hundreds of prisoners have been released from Guantanamo. If they were truly guilty or the “worst of the worst” as Rumsfeld insisted, surely they’d still be languishing there. As for the majority of the prisoners who remain incarcerated in that facility (and at Baghram and God only knows where else), there has been no proof presented that they were guilty of anything apart from being being in the wrong place at the wrong time and getting turned over to the US Army for money. Maybe many are guilty. Maybe they’re not. The point is that no one, not even you, can say that they are all al Qaeda associates or guilty of plotting anything. Rumsfeld’s statement was simply false.

      No sane person is recommending that terrorists be released to roam free in the United States. It’s the right-wing loonies and their apologists who are making up this piece of spin out of whole cloth. Harry Reid panicked and pulled that statement out of his ass in a fit of pathetic machismo.

      If you believe that every single person being held by the US is by definition a terrorist then you’ve fallen for the propaganda of Fox “News” and Limbaugh, who prefer to operate in their own reality.

      As for Limbaugh, I don’t like someone who goes on the air and describes women as “Feminazis”. Maybe you find the term flattering. I don’t. Maybe you don’t object to the fact that during the Clinton years he suggested that Hillary Clinton murdered Vince Foster. I do.

      I can’t help but notice that you’re always asking for “proof” of the obvious. You asked for “proof” that Limbaugh and O’Reilly said and did sexist things. If you’d bothered to go on the Internet and do a simple search you could have answered your own question.

      If you find my response insulting then perhaps you’d be more comfortable posting with the right-wing Limbaugh and Fox apologist trolls.

        Wow…so defensive. I simply asked a question and you got all radical on me. I was polite in my inquisition and you responded with an impolite response. You seem to have your mind made up that all conservatives are bad and abscribe to everything Republicans do. Not true and I am not a Republican nor a Democrat.

        I only listen to Limbaugh occasionally and certainly don’t agree w many things he says. Funny how you just made the assumption that I do. Fox news is the only media reporting the news fairly but I bet you watch it very little to know that.

        And I never said the detainees shouldn’t have a trial nor said they were all terrorists. The story about releasing the detainees in the US was all over the news so I don’t know where your proof is that the “right wing” started a rumor.

        I don’t know what you do for a living but I work a full time job as well as a part time business on the side. In addition I am attending school full time for my Bachelors and also own and maintain a home with a yard. So excuse me for not having time to surf the internet and watch the news every single day for every single tidbit item that becomes public. That is why I come here.

        I am not a right wing troll by the way, I have been posting here for many months. And I would appreciate the same respect that I gave you.

          You are constantly defending Rush Limbaugh (who by your own admission you listen to only occasionally) and Fox (which you claim is the only channel covering the news fairly) and get very huffy when anyone criticizes Republicans or conservatives. When you ask for “proof” of something and are presented with facts you go silent or change the subject. I hate to break this to you, but you’re a conservative. Embrace it. It’s ok.

          I’m not sure what going to school, working and owning a house has to do with the price of eggs.

          Since you don’t surf the Web or watch the news, you might not be aware of the fact that the right wing has been superb at creating straw men and changing the subject to put Democrats on the defensive for years. This business about “letting terrorists loose” has been all over Fox and talk radio for weeks. It’s nonsense and a complete lie. The Democrats, fearing that they will be smeared as unpatriotic or terrorist-coddlers, fall for it like a ton of bricks and make idiotic statements. They should be ashamed of themselves, Harry Reid in particular. I would say I can’t believe you asked me to explain why I wrote that Harry Reid’s statement is moronic, but to be honest I’m not really surprised.

            Apparently your emotions have clouded your ability to reason and be objective. You did not read my post with clear thinking because for the second time you made assumptions about me that are not true.

            My busy schedule is why I don’t have time to watch the news and surf the internet for hours each day. That has nothing to do w the “price of eggs”…it has to do with not having time to search the internet and listen to every tidbit of news. I said that in my post.

            I never said I wasn’t a conservative either. I said I wasn’t Republican or Democrat. Again…you skewed my words. And I am definitely not ashamed of being a moderate conservative. I am proud of it.

            When writing a thread it seems more civility would be in order. But some people can only offer that when someone agrees with them.

        As I responded above, I do not listen to Limbaugh enough to know whether he spreads propaganda or not. I never said he wasn’t, I simply asked why the accusation and got a radical response. I like to be informed and I don’t have time to surf the internet all day reading everything.

If you don’t believe what I write then I suggest you listen to him, read what he writes and surf the Web.               From time to time I’ve posed a question for the person who wrote the original post simply because I assume they, having researched the article, will have more info on the subject than I do. Or perhaps it’s because the article was not written with enough clarity to explain the writer’s intent.

              I truly don’t understand why a question intended to further explain a position would draw such intense criticism and disdain. I was under the impression that these posts were to encourage dialogs. Perhaps it would be wiser to look elsewhere for explanations. JMHO

          Hey, you, guys, I DO listen to Rush quite frequently, am a recovering Democrat and, horror of horrors, I actually AGREE with a few things he says! He’s not ALL bad – he has some good points on some issues, just like everyone else you listen to or watch. You just have to know he’s one of the far right-wing talking-heads just like MSNBC is the radical left-wing kook network.

          I’ll take Rush anyday over that Keith Olbermann! At least Rush is entertaining.

He does make sense, and I agree with him sometimes. He is a propagandist and “entertainer”. He doesn’t try to hide that he’s on the right. I also like Mark Levin.

              I’d like to say that regardless of the argument here, Tom Cat wodie j Jefferson Esq has been commenting here for a long time, and is part of the community, so I don’t like seeing him attacked. Second, no doubt Limbaugh is over the top, but how is his method of propaganda any different from what we’ve seen in the past year from Axelrod & Co. (or the mainstream media for that matter)? I don’t see that propaganda is only practiced by one Party anymore–in the extreme.

    As to terrorist being released into American society, I guess Harry Reid and the crew missed all the gangs that terrorize Americans, even kidnapping and torturing and murdering them. But those are the terrorist who will bring votes to the Democrats and cheap labor to the Republicans.

    As Maureen Dowd pointed out in the non-plagiarized part of her column on Sunday, the reason Bush was able to do what he did is because “very few watchdogs — in the Democratic Party or the press — were pushing back against the Bush horde in 2002 and 2003, when magazines were gushing about W. and Cheney as conquering heroes.” But all of this recent media commentary makes clear that media stars and Democratic leaders now are only pretending to find Bush/Cheney policies repugnant because Bush is now so unpopular and his policies were proven to be failures. As a result, a new face is needed for those policies, but the belief in the rightness of those policies hasn’t changed. They still consider Bush/Cheney policies “centrist” and responsible — only Leftist Purists oppose them — and thus heap praise on Obama for embracing them. We’re still the same country we were in 2003. Our media stars and political leaders from both parties still think the same way. That’s why the more Obama embraces the Bush/Cheney approach, the more praise he gets for Centrism.

    Tell me something I did not already know.

    I read Greenwald’s column every day and listen to his audio interviews as well. I have not always agreed with him (CDS) but most often I do agree enthusiastically. I believe he has been the most fair in his criticism and has not been an Obama apologist. He has been critical of the media but will credit unbiased and critical stories positively. One thing I like that he does, something old school, is he usually includes an argument for different points of view before eviscerating one, and often includes mention of those who disagree. He admitted to needing to interview people with which he disagreed. I don’t think he will ever get past his CDS however, which is a disappointment. On that particular article I agree that it is bs to excuse Obama’s position on the prosecution of torture and enhanced interrogation by calling it a “centrist” position, or that Obama is being acceptably pragmatic as an excuse for Obama morphing into Bush/Cheney.

    As for Harry Reid, you are absolutely correct DCMediaGirl. He is moron. It is so annoying to me that my fellow Democrats always fall into traps set by Republicans, it’s beyond me. Perhaps that goes to not having conviction or worrying about the next election cycle.

    I have this theory that Reid is really doing what Obama wants by denying him the funds to close Guantanamo. In this way, Reid looks like a tough guy in what looks to be a tough reelection campaignn for him and Obama can kick the can down the road while claiming that he tried real hard to fulfill his campaign promise but Shucks — Harry just stood in the way.

    Spineless… what was that proclamation that Obama signed the orders to close Gitmo?? Remember the touting of this accomplishment? DCMediaGirl, do you have any information as to the actual cost to close Gitmo; is the cost being inflated to give Obama cover? I would love to see a detailed comparison of the cost to close it versus the cost to keep it open.

    Speaking of costs…does anyone know how much the Obama trips on Air Force One have costs the American taxpayers? I read that the average AF1 flight costs around $248 million..but can’t find out how many times BO has used AF1. Also, this trip he’s making on behest of Harry Reid…is he using AF1…and are we paying for his Harry Reid fun-raising junt?????

    You know, I have become very fond of Fox over the past year or so, and I think there are many like me. Would we have ever seen the Reverend Wright tapes without Hannity? I doubt it. Remember that the entire media knew of this racist church, Hannity was the only one to keep pushing until they could no longer ignore it. Right now Hannity and O’Reilly are pushing the Acorn debaucle, sort of a tag team effort, and I think that’s great, as the more people realize what a scam Acorn is and the vast sums of money they are getting from our government, the more we stand a chance of getting rid of them.
    I’m keeping my eye on the prize, the only prize I care about, getting rid of Obama and the Chicago thugs. If I have to put up with Hannity’s ego and Limbaugh’s excessiveness and other small irritations in order to learn what the MSM won’t tell me, so be it, because they’re after the same prize as I am.
