Exactly! Where was Matthews along with the rest of the MSM when all the build-up for the Iraq war was happening. They were even too “chicken” to cover most of the global war protests which attracted millions in so many countries.

To General Wilkerson,

As a lifelong (and oft-suffering) Democrat, I welcome that sandpaper the real Republicans provided. I certainly didn't like Bob Taft, at this point I miss him. At least there was some focus on realities instead of ideologies. Please, you, and Colin Powell and Olympia Snow, and others pull something together. Give us Democrats something to work with.

Thanks for your work and honesty

So whatever Muslim fundamentalists do that justifies anything that Americans do? Is that what you are saying? So we should sink to the lowest savagery that we are supposedly opposed to? They did it first, or they do it too is absolutely no justification for trashing our Constitution and violating international law.

The "urgency" was there only because we had finally ran out of time to get out of Saudi Arabia. The Saudis said get out now you were suposed to leave after the gulf war. It has been 10 years. Each time you asked for more time. TIME IS UP GET OUT!! SINCE THE US HAD NO INTENTION OF LEAVING THE MIDDLE EAST FOR "PROTECTION OF OIL SOURCES" WE LOOKED ACROSS THE WAY AND SAID AH HA IRAQ. The lies began then. As a military man Powell should have known that this was not a coincidence and all fitted together. Although I am an AA, he is another one of the people I now despise that at one one time I highly respected.

Woman voter. Their were some verbal charges made against Scott Ritter saying he was involved with an underage girl. It appears he was threatened with this information (statutory rape??) and told to shut up or else. We have not seen him since.

It is 1.40 after midnight. What I'm watching on the TV, is 9/11, from the start to the end. I'm not a revengeful person, but, no, never I would forget 9/11 and those, almost 3000 people who died. As, my mother used to say, " You can fogive but never forget". I don't forgive and don't forget. Seeing the arabs (Palestine) and muslims, dancing over our fellow Americans " body", how anybody can ever forget. The image of Two Old Center " Gemeni" will be a vivid image for the rest of my life. Anybody can talk about waterboarding, look what they did, beheaded soldiers, civilians, NY reporter, and we talk about " torture". If ours is torture, what about theirs? theirs, is homicide, pur and simple. I would never hate innocent people, just criminals and terrorists.

Exactly! Where was Matthews along with the rest of the MSM when all the build-up for the Iraq war was happening. They were even too "chicken" to cover most of the global war protests which attracted millions in so many countries.

I remember I was in the Sao Paulo, Brazil, airport the night Bush was going to announce whether we were going to war or not---I think it was March 20---and everyone there was glued to the airport television monitors. When Bush announced that we were going to invade there was a huge, "oh, no" resounding. I think much of the world was hugely disappointed that Bush was going to take that miliary and pre-emptive strike action.

However, the heavy war drums were beating by the neo-cons, the MSM, and even the Dems. (they didn't want to look weak on national security). If anyone was against the war, they were "unpatriotic"---labeled by the Bush/Cheney administration and many (influences in Washington, especially) who could have stood up and protested, would be fired or they would be publicly attacked via the news.

Weird times---just as weird as having the Obama administration now! Our government and politics need overhauling and perhaps an "exorcism."

I never believe there was enough evidence to say that Iraq had WMDs either. There were enough sources and many people saying otherwise.

It seemed from the beginning to me to be a cooked up excuse to go into Iraq.

I agree. Dubya's and Cheney's preoccupation with finishing a job that that they thought Daddy Bush didn't finish and the subsequent ill-conceived planning and execution after the admittedly remarkable invasion has cost and will continue to cost us dearly.

I don’t think their actions came from a “good place” at all.
It only matters that Bush thought he was coming from a good place. After all, what more can we expect from a leader than to do what they feel is right?

I don't think their actions came from a "good place" at all. They were going with their own "theories," based on their own ideologies and not concerned about the many hundreds of thousands of people who would pay the high price to push their ideaologies. They always seemed to be people who had NEVER lived in any but a very isolated reality with only people who shared the same Weltanschauung.

I don't like people who don't try to see things outside their comfort zones.

I can honestly say Bush's behavior always frightened me.

I never believe there was enough evidence to say that Iraq had WMDs either. There were enough sources and many people saying otherwise.

It seemed from the beginning to me to be a cooked up excuse to go into Iraq. I couldn't believe Congress sat there and didn't question W's administration. It appeared to me that they were afraid to appear weak or something, when I thought they would appear stronger if they did more investigation. It's just too big a decision to make--to drop a bomb like that and to begin something that would kill so many--not to do some real questioning. The urgency just seemed too made up to me. It was like watching a bad movie.

Perhaps people in Washington listen only to people in Washington.

What a laugh I got when Chris Matthews said he was against the war! He and MSNBC were a part of the pro war cheerleading squad as much as Fox News. Matthews and his spineless colleagues drove me to information sources like No Quarter and Sic Semper Tyrannis.

My point is that if he didn't believe the information he was given, then why didn't he put up a fight like with President Clinton. Why didn't he stand up to President Bush II? Did he consider his personal views, that gays in the military were a bigger threat, than WAR? So, he had conviction on one, but not the other?!?

See, when you look at his actions, they don't add up...he is simply trying to re-invent himself and to cover his tracks. He had the stamina to stand up to one Commander and Chief (Bill Clinton), but went all GUSH  O me, he couldn't stand up to Bushie II? Why didn't he threaten to QUIT? Why didn't he go public?

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is going to give her staff that just happened to be gay, all the rights (Civil Rights), that her other staff have. Now, that is leadership and maybe Collin Powell should learn a thing or two of how to treat the men and women that serve this country honorably, especially in time of WAR (like the one he helped to get us into).
