John & Elizabeth Edwards Are Sell-Outs [Update]

QUESTIONS GALORE: Will Edwards help Obama in Kentucky? (We know Edwards won’t move a vote.) Will Edwards now give up his position on universal health care? Will someone ask him?

As noted by many here, the meaningless endorsement of Obama by John “Pretty Boy” Edwards was designed to bury Hillary’s “devastating defeat by 41 points” of Barack Obama in West Virginia, a defeat “that should be EXTREMELY ALARMING” to ALL Democrats (even those in the DNC). Byron York covers how ABC News let itself be used to that end, even on its national newscast which never ordinarily covers live events.

BUT! This group of grizzled veterans (thank god for Fox News) know how little Johnny’s showboating yesterday really means — NEXT TO NOTHING! — compared to Hillary’s crushing defeat of BO on Tuesday:

Yesterday was quite a day. There was Bill Richardson on Fox, with drool running down and coagulating in his chin whiskers, dodging the question that Obama had offered him the vice presidency. It was so obvious that Richardson is consumed by the prospect. (Hey, Bill, he’s offered the VP slot to at least three other people!)

Then, when I told a very smart political wisegirl that Johnny had sold out for access to Obama’s mailing list (SEE BELOW), she told me WHY, she is certain, that Elizabeth Edwards had endorsed Hillary’s heath care plan a few weeks ago. It was to get herself a gig “as a fellow at the Center for American Progress to advocate on health care issues.” As the AP points out, “the Washington-based think tank was founded by John Podesta, President Clinton’s former chief of staff.” To think that others here, and I, wrote articles praising Elizabeth for pointing out the superiority of Hillary’s health plan compared to Barack’s. I was thunderstruck by how I’d been used. And how Hillary’s longtime allies were also used. UPDATE: To those who insist Elizabeth has stayed “pure” through this sad tale, I give you (thanks to Andy) this: “She also said [on Olbermann's Countdown that] while she prefers Hillary’s health plan to Obama’s, she’s glad that both provide for universal coverage.” — Jeralyn, “Elizabeth Edwards on Endorsements,” Talkleft blog, April 29, 2008. A little OT, but it’s for Hill: I have to go do some stuff, but, if anyone would like to, I need email addresses of Oregon newspapers and TV stations. I can get them when I come back, but it would save time if we could get them beforehand. It might be a fun exercise for anyone who feels like it!

After asking around, I found out about a few hot button issues for Oregonians, the majority of whom are white (90%):

1. Sexism – Barama has shown a lot of that, and I think we should share what we know, including the “Sweetie” comment from yesterday.
2. Independent thinking – if you pride yourself on this, you might want to go with Senator Clinton!
3. Terri Schaivo – Apparently BO went with the Republicans on that one.

So there is a lot we can send them, if we just get the email addresses. Thanks in advance if you can do this, and I’ll check back ASAP!

He KNOWS that Obama’s health and economic policies are far right, and that Clinton’s policies are progressive.

He waited until the best opportunity for his own career.

At the start of this primary, he claimed to champion the poor. Yet he had done NOTHING in 4 years except work on his now-failed presidential campaign.

I would particularly mention the fact that the Cheney bill that Obama voted for allows them to run an LNG pipeline down the pristine Oregon Coast (or anywhere else they please) against the will of almost every Oregonian. That is a real hot button here.

About 2 weeks ago; after E. Edwards got the job she wen on National TV to say that both Obama’s and Clinton’s health care plan were universal. yes, she said that Obama’s plan was also universal !!
It was no slip of the tongue and many people were
struck by hr comment and left wondering why would she say that after the reports from the Edwards’ meeting with Obama back in Feb. when Elizabeth got into a heated argument with Obama b/c he said his plan was universal and she said it was clearly not?

I knew then thy were about to endorsed Obama.

I think it’s pointless to carry on over whether or not Elizabeth Edwards did or didn’t endorse Obama. They’re a married couple, with young children. Shit like this happens with married people and ultimately they have to merge their best interests.

I really don’t care about her. She was the candidate’s wife to me. Likeable enough, but that’s all. This is on John Edwards. He was the candidate with supporters. It was his call and for me it was a disappointing one. Politically expedient, but I don’t have to walk in his shoes.

Why do do women always need married women to prove how independent they are from their husbands? As if being married is anything but being dependent for both husband and wife. Besides, I never got the impression Elizabeth Edwards liked Hillary. She once made an awful comment about Hilllary when she was promoting her book that dealt with how hard she took the death of their oldest son. I personally thought the remark was distasteful and unnecessary. Public sniping between women especially if there’s nothing to gain only fuels misogyny.

I sent this email to Elizabeth Edwards this morning:

You were noticeably absent yesterday from your husband’s endorsement spectacle. I commend you for that. I heard that you would have endorsed Hillary Clinton. I felt sick as I watched John become just another self-indulgent, self-important politician. Throughout the campaign, he seemed to agree with all that Hillary wants for this country, and the wind blew the other way, so John went along because he hopes to get something out of it, obviously. What a major disappointment for all of us who believed he was genuine. I was so bereft of hope as I watched him onstage with Obama soaking up the applause that I couldn’t listen to his speech. I can tell you that I would never again vote for John in any capacity. Two things happened to me this morning. As I was driving to work, the car in front of me was sporting a bumper sticker that read, “Politicians are like diapers: they all need to be changed for the same reason.” Then as I was walking up the sidewalk, I found a complete set of rosary beads. There IS hope, but John Edwards will never be a part of it. You seem like a wonderful woman. I hope you’re well.

Edwards didn’t even tell many of his former top advisers because he wanted to inform Clinton personally, said the person close to him. Edwards’ wife, Elizabeth, who has said she thinks Clinton has the superior health care plan, did not travel with him to Michigan and is not part of the endorsement.

When Elizabeth wrote her “hard hitting” article about media bias– I knew she was in the Obama-drink.
It was titled something like Bowling 1, Health Care 0. You didn’t need to read further than the headline to know where she was at. Also, though some touted the article as being highly critical of the media, I thought it was pretty lame.

I’ve never been impressed with the Edwards. I read some really biting comments that Anne (?) Coulter had directed towards them, and I am simply hoping that she gets a little air time to “air” what she thinks of their incredible “integrity.” That said, I agree that the endorsement has fizzled to nothing, and that another attempted horse-shit Obama moment has passed.

I’m looking forward to Puerto Rico and Larry Sinclair. Also looking forward (hope, hope) to Obama being indicted next along with Gov. of Illinois.

Edwards had the Obama Camp and DNC leadership hounding him since Super Tuesday to support Obama. For over a year and a half Alexrod, his former campaign manager, has worked behind the scenes with the DNC, the Obamabot bloggers and MSM to strangle the Edwards campaign in its crib. The DNC came up with a Debate and media format schedule guaranteed to exacerbate identity politics and pandering. Edwards never got any traction. Alexrod manipulated the events to ensure they would be as banal and issue free as possible to downplay Edwards and Hillary’s stronger points.

So F’ing What!! Big deal the candy assed pillow biting Obamabots have now gotten the Edwards endorsement they have been screaming for. They still are going to be bad mouthing Edwards for not doing it 3 months ago. You watch this time next week and through out the month as the Obamabots will be throwing Edwards under the bus after they get stomped in KY and the remaining primaries. I think Edwards actually knows what the Obamabots have in store for him.

After all Hillary does not need Edwards in the primaries. I doubt Edwards is going to swing that many SDs.

The Obamabots will still be claiming that had Edwards jumped on the bandwagon in Feb, like they asked, Obambi would have done better with the white working classes. In an interview that aired Wednesday on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” she threw her support behind Sen. Hillary Clinton’s health care plan.
“In order to ensure that we have universal coverage, we need to say everybody has to join,” Edwards told ABC’s Robin Roberts. “So, for that reason, the mandates that Sen. Clinton is talking about, I think are going to be more successful in achieving the goal,” she added.

Both health care plans have the same goals, said Edwards, but “I just have more confidence in Sen. Clinton’s policies than Sen. Obama’s on this particular issue.”

Universal health coverage. HRC does and it is not “a goal” it is part of a specific plan.

The “goal universal health care” is meaningless.

Either you have a plan that is universal or you don’t.

Universal coverage “as a goal” is a pie in the sky.

So, to say that Obama and HRC’s plan have both as “goal to be universal” is a lie and I cannot phantom why would anyone say that other than as an attempt to make it sound as both plans being the same.

As more newscasters interviewed her, she became more and more reticent about endorsing the HRC plan until she finally started saying they were both similar, and we would get good plans with either candidate.
My take is that she did not want to endorse anyone because she did not want to hurt John’s chance of getting a job if HRC did not win the primary.

If Howard Dean and his cohorts persist in engineering this so that Obama wins the nomination with 2025 votes, there will definitely be massive disgust with the Democratic Party all over the nation, not just in Florida and Michigan. That could easily translate into a landslide for John McCain.

The Associated Press story said that Elizabeth was not included in the endorsement of Obama, and she did not go to Michigan with John to make the announcement, so it might not be fair to include her in this.

All of these SD announcements by BO and the JRE endorsement are the surest sign that BHO is in trouble. Villareal is right : the man is absolutely running scared right now. He is desperately trying to change the story from the WV blow-out. The NARAL endorsement is the lynch pin because it was undertaken without the approval of the local membership. Someone must have issued BO an ultimatum, especially considering the guaranteed shellacking he’s going to get next Tuesday in KY. Their internal numbers on KY and PR must be horrible.

Time and time again, BO runs into the contradictions of his own behavior. First he says that 2027 is the number, suggesting that Michigan and Florida don’t matter. Then he plans to campaign in Michigan. First he says that May 20th is the deadline, suggesting that all primaries afterwards don’t matter. Then he sends Michelle down to PR, which holds its primary on June 3rd. First he trashes white working class voters, and his campaign manager explicitly says that BO won’t need working class white voters, then he brings on JRE to help him win white working class voters.

I’ve never seen such a schizophrenic tangle of lies, spin and flim-flam.

John Edwards had just Bill Richardson-zed himself, endorsing a candidate who has not only trashed his own constituency repeatedly (poor, white working class voters), but has also been summarily rejected by Edwards own constituency.

Just like Richardson, Edwards’ endorsement was designed to blunt an embarassing moment for Obama (Wright #1, West Virginia blow-out, likely Kentucky blow-out), and just like Richardson, it looks like Edwards is desperate for some attention and cash after blowing his own campaign. Actually, make that his political career, which includes two failed presidential campaigns, one useless VP nomination (he did little to help Kerry), and the dumbest decision of his life – stepping down from his Senate seat. What an idiot.

Just like Richardson and hispanics, Edwards’ endorsement will not pull white working class voters towards Obama. Having pissed away the rest of his political capital and reputation for independence, Edwards, like Richardson, will vanish into the political wilderness.

Richardson and JRE are not only political whores who have endorsed a candidate they consider to be weaker than HRC, but neither of them had the discipline to keep their reservations to themselves. Great job, guys. The bus to Belleview Hospital is on its way.

Does anyone really take Richardson seriously anymore? Besides the BO-obsessed media, no. Who does he speak for? Certainly not Hispanics. He’s just a wandering, washed up party elder, like George McGovern. The same fate awaits Edwards.

I believe he was bought by the DNC- here you go Johnny- endorse the golden idol and you get access to our data base.
I have been flaming the DNC every time they send me a begging e-mail so I know for sure they have my e-mail address.
Edwards- bought for a data base. Well, you guys warned us- but I thought I was safe- I thought Obama was selling hsi won data base to supers- turns out the DNC is the culprit.

We think Obama got our phone number from when Kerry endorsed him….literally right after. I think the Florida vote was going on, so Jamuary.

Anyway, I tried to see if they update the phone bank with any recent information, so I was chatting her up about the Florida thing and votes lost. She has nothing but a vague script and a database to update. I could hear her entering info. No inside knowledge or outside either, she couldn’t discuss it with any skill.

The call was for my husband technically, and when she heard he was for Hillary, she tried to ask why and see if he could be swayed. When she realized he couldn’t, she then tried extract my info and candidate of choice.

Didn’t give it to her…and she finally stayed off script for a bit and the call ended.

What struck me is that our local politicians have us combined, so this was an out of state database.

Not sure if Edwards has access to that database with Kerry and 2004, but Obama’s is more recent.

Calm down. Elizabeth did not endorse Obama, John did. Last week on Larry King, John hinted that they had voted for different candidates. And Elizabeth was absent yesterday. I’m so disappointed in John Edwards. I still think he’d be a good voice in politics but his endorsement does not sway me. He’s made blunders before; this is another one.

She was conspicuously absent during the endorsement and from her public statements, it’s clear that she favours Clinton’s health care plan. And to Elizabeth, health care is the biggest issue.
