Uninvited to the Party

door-cartoon-web-final.jpg

First it was that posh San Francisco fundraiser. Obama asserted that small town people are bitter, and that is what turns them to guns, religion, and racial prejudice. “Poor choice of words,” the Man of Words tried to explain, but few bought it. ABC News

Then Democratic leader, Donna Brazile (clearly an Obama booster) says that there is a “new” Democratic coalition that no longer has to rely on white blue collar workers and Hispanics. Apparently the elderly are no longer of much consequence either, since this “new” Democratic coalition is young, urban, and suburban. TalkLeft

So I get the picture. I don’t comprehend what’s going on behind that “New” Democratic Party door, but I do know that I am now standing outside with these other folks I tried to lovingly portray in cartoon style.

Pat I love your cartoons is there somewhere we can see all of your work?

Obama Helped Supporters Get Millions in Illinois State Business
John Rogers, Whose Business Obama Helped as a State Senator, Is Now One of Obama’s Chief Fundraisers
By AVNI PATEL, JUSTIN ROOD and BRIAN ROSS
    May 15, 2008—

In a speech to the Urban League last July, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., boasted of his efforts in 2001 to help a handful of African American-owned investment firms in Chicago get a larger share of business with Illinois state pension funds. “And in six months, they got about a half-billion dollars’ worth of business simply on their excellence,” Obama said.

What he did not say in his speech was that the owner of one of the investment firms, John Rogers of Ariel Capital, is a principal campaign fundraiser. Nor did he reveal that employees of the firms he helped have since contributed to or helped to raise more than $765,000 for his campaigns, according to campaign documents. Nor did he mention that two of the firms have allowed him to use their private jets. Nor did he mention that two of the firms have since been dismissed by the state pension fund for “underperformance.”

Great cartoon! I recognize myself standing in that #2 slot. What will they do without us? The youth won’t be coming back once the kool aid wears off, and the black vote won’t come back once he loses and they don’t have the Pied Piper to whistle them into line.

    • Roxie

Great Cartoon Pat! Keep ‘em coming.

This picture tells the story. BHO does not have the interests of MOST of the Democratic party at heart.

      Go Hillary!

  • bamti’s brother

he has to argue something to the super’s and since he can’t win main stream democrats, he’s got to claim we don’t matter?

A video of Michelle being hateful? Nahhhhhhhh that’s not possible…

    • s. hall

Perhaps Obama would throw Michelle over for Oprah. Not a doubt in my mind if money and power were at stake he would send this Bitch packing.

  • Untilthelastdogdies

    Great cartoon Pat!

I expect to see a “Donna’s List” just around the corner!

We will not be in the data base :)

  • JohnnyB

Pat, yes, I’m outside with you and all of the Democratic core voters. I’m from a minority nationality, and we must take back our Democratic Party to win in November with Hillary.
Keep up the great work that you represent through your cartoons.

Folks, copy her cartoon and posting and send it to all your friends, and any media contacts you have, including blogs.

    Thanks Pat….

  • satin.sheets.feminist

True feminists, not the housewives at NARAL and the blogmaids at Daily Kos, are also not invited to Barack Obama’s Party.

    • kenoshaMarge

This old feminist thinks that “all” women should be a part of our Democratic Party. Some will choose to align themselves with people that do not have their best interests at heart or respect them as women. There have always been those that accepted this and this has been part of the feminist problem from the gitgo.

Some will never see the light. Some will always allow themselves to be used and abused. We can’t stop that, we can only hold out a hand and say we will welcome all that share our values and our belief that “women’s rights are human rights” whatever their race, whatever their gender, whatever their religion.

But if you attempt to do damage to us and the things we believe in, are you listening Rachel Maddow, Andrea Mitchel, Gloria Borger, Maureen Dowd, Rhandi Rhodes and many others too numerous to count then we disdain you and do not welcome you into our tent. In fact we loathe and despise you for the things you lack as human beings and as women; dignity, self-respect, respect for the rights of all, and the ability to allow anyone anywhere to denigrate half of humanity. To you we say, get the fuck outa our tent and stay out.

  • Sam Copeland

You got the unity pony right.

It is okay to have a chit-chat with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (please, it would be so wrong to have conditions on this), but forget about trying to address the issues of core Democratic voters such as those in the middle class, the workers who did the real creating in this country, older Americans, and women — to name a few.

    • bamaoil

Ah, elitist fall out, you should post on the elite thread.

Out of touch, men and women so unprepared for their jobs, so out of touch with the rest of the world, so lacking in any ability to understand how the different pieces fit together, internationally, so provincial, so wrapped in their own political detritus, I have to wonder why they entered politics, anyway.

To make a lot of money, as Gov Blago of IL promised?

  • pm317

Pat, great job. Your nun looks so bitter, she is really clinging to her religion.

I agree with the previous poster — there ought to be a representative for independent women there.

  • Carey

I quit NARAL today. Been a member for years.

    • JohnnyB

Let’s get Keenan to RESIGN along with the political director.

  • florence

I think we should add “women” to the list. The Boyz don’t want us to join the club.

  • Grace

Feminists are off the list now, too. NARAL just gave up caring about women.

    • satin.sheets.feminist

      I am finished with NARAL.

  • Leisa

    Pat,

    I love your cartoons!

I also see that you were kind and did not put in women over 40, as some of our sisters in that demographic are cheerleaders for this “new” Democratic party… But many of these women that I know also voted for Bush in 2004.

I think for many, it’s the rush to the image of what is current, consumer oriented support. Buy the marketing, like the $5.00 latte’ at Starbucks that cost $0.50 to make…

  • haypops

Apparently the elderly are no longer of much consequence either, since this “new” Democratic coalition is young, urban, and suburban

Obama’s social security advisor is pro-privitsation.

I apologize if this has been talked about elsewhere, but I didn’t see it. Fox is reporting that the Almight One has apologized for calling a reporter “sweetie”. Says it’s a bad habit!

Here’s a quote I read today, from a book published in 1893 while women were fighting to get the vote:

“When men begin to fear the power of women, their voice and their influence. then we shall secure justice, not before. When we demonstrate our ability to kill off, or seriously injure, a candidate, or hurt a party, then we shall receive ‘consideration’. . . We must be recognized as aggressive” — Matilda Joslyn Gage, Suffragist

So, the Democratic Party may not want it’s feminists, but they will pay a price for that (it’s called, losing the GE). This quote says perfectly why I will vote for John McCain – to hurt the party that has betrayed not just women, but, well, everyone.

    • http://speaktruth speaktruth

Thank you for that quote, I love it. I just wrote something exactly like it this morning.
They are treating Hillary and her supporters this way because they don’t respect us or fear us.
They figure we’ll always come back. They need to learn to fear us.
      Take the party back!

    • cellocat

Matilda Joslyn Gage was brilliant. She grew up in an Underground Railroad house, had close relationships with a Native American tribe by whom she was given a name, Sky Carrier. One aspect of her brilliance was that she recognized that we don’t always have to look forward to find the promise of equality; that in past civilizations, there are times and places when women have been treated more as equals than as they were in her time (turn of the century). She is the PERFECT antidote to Obama, whose mantra for change refuses to recognize the positives of what we’ve had. He refuses to acknowlege the backs of people he’s standing on. For example, he couldn’t so casually admit to smoking dope as a kid if it weren’t for what Bill Clinton went through.

Oh, and FYI, Matilda was L. Frank Baum’s mother-in-law. :-)

Pat, your series of cartoons is priceless. Is the new Demo party going to be exclusionary and elitist? Do all those “other folks” not count anymore? Well, it will be much different if Hillary is the nominee and President. She does care about the disaffected and outsider groups that the “anointed one” would like to exclude. Keep the cartoons coming. They are more effective than a mountain of words. Make sure the delegates see your work and wake up before it’s too late!

  • John

We really need to form a new Progressive Party and welcome in all the groups disenfranchised by the Obamacrats now in control of the Democratic Party.

We should hold a parallel convention in Denver at the same time as the Democrats and nominate Hillary for President ourselves.

    • secularhumanizinevoluter

    Great Toon, Pat!!!

I find it so ironic that it’s been made clear to me many times that I am not needed nor wanted in the NEW Democratic Party because I’m middle-aged, but I am the same age as Obama!! Do those latte tykes really think that a middle-aged guy in a suit is hip? Obama, the DNC, and Obama’s surrogates and supporters have made it abundantly clear that the NEW Party is for the “hip hop generation.” Yeah.. good luck getting donations from a bunch of 20 year olds. Oh and that down-ticket voting? forget that, too.

      • http://www.arguewitheveryone.com ChrisXP

        Traditional conservatism. Loaded with catholics.

  • Ivory Bill Woodpecker

    *dons tinfoil hat*

I will use the traditional collective term “Wall Street” for the US economic elite.

IIRC, back in 2005, Chimperor Dubya, at the height of his power, tried to “reform” Social Security [that is, give the Wall Street jackals the keys to the SS treasury], but received an all-too-rare rebuke from Congress.

Meanwhile, it is now obvious to all but the most dedicated right-wing Kool-Aid guzzlers that the GOP [the "Elephascist Party" as I like to call it] has become an asylum run by the inmates, and has been one at least since the Gingrich Congress came in after the Nov. ’94 elections. It is also obvious that the Elephascist lunatics are steering the ship of state straight for the rocks.

Maybe Wall Street, or at least a faction of it, has noticed that the economy performed better under Big Dog Clinton than under either of the Bushes.

Maybe that faction, at least, has switched parties.

Cue Obama: a guy comes out of a brief career in state politics, makes a pretty speech in 2004, serves part of one term in the federal Senate, and then decides to run for president. AND THIS GUY HAS THE MOST MONEY OF ANY OF THE CONTENDERS. “Oh, he got that from a netroot network of small donors”–yeah, right, and David Vitter’s used diapers smell like fresh cinnamon rolls. With that huge war chest and a network of dedicated activists [cough *cultists and thugs* cough], the new guy bolts to a surprising lead, and then, once the previous favorite recovers from the shock and starts gaining ground, nearly all of the party’s elder statesmen start calling for her to drop out and let the newbie have it. WTF?

Obama also, at times, spouts right-wing talking points on SS “reform”. A nominally-Democratic President Obama maybe could do what no Elephascist Prez could–”reform” SS, while any criticism of his doing so could be dismissed as “racist”, since he happens to have an African dad.

Can you say “Trojan Horse”, boys and girls?

If Obama is nominated, watch the behavior of the weasels of the MSM [I like to call it the "Corporate Holodeck Media"]. So far, the media weasels have been kissing both Obama’s and McCain’s butts.

If the MSM keeps kissing McCain’s butt, but starts kicking Obama’s butt, forget this post.

But if the MSM keeps kissing Obama’s butt while suddenly turning like a pack of hyenas on their old pal McCain, if they start saying “He’s old”, “His health is dubious”, “He wants 100 years in Iraq”, “He has a short fuse–do you want his finger on The Button?”, then we will know the fix is in.

Say howdy to the new Democratic Party folks–with the same Chicago School economic policies as the GOP: sink-or-swim for the common citizen and socialism for the fat cats, but without all that buzz-killing church stuff. Under the New Democrats, you’ll be able to smoke pot and have sex with consenting farm animals, but if you get too sick or injured to work, or just can’t find work, then it’s on the truck and off to the Soylent Green plant with you, deadbeat! while the old business class elite and the new “creative class” elite party the night away on the upper floors, just like in Fritz Lang’s “METROPOLIS”.

    • Doris

Won’t happen due to Neo-Cons, which is like your Far-Left, who believes in welfare.

A lot of misconceptions on both sides of the aisle of the makeup of each political spectrum.

The only group that would push the “dream” above are anarcho-capitalists (pure Darwinists), and they usually reside on the Libertarian side (which houses the most ardent tax hawks in politics).

  • http://therealistblogs.blogspot.com/ troy m

If you have ant doubt they are trying to re-craft the Democratic party, read this.

    http://therealistblogs.blogspot.com/2008/05/donna-brazileobjected-to-proposal-to.html

they don’t want the gays, either. And you thought Mcklurkin and Rev. Meeks were just poor judgement? Think again. Dean,Brazile, and Obama know exactly what they are doing.

    • http://www.notofthebody.blogspot.com Hype-Jersey

It makes sense to me that the DNC would want to jettison gays and women. Women’s productive freedom (choice) has been one wedge issue that the DNC no doubt wishes would go away for them. No more women in the party, no reason to be so staunchly pro-choice. Not that the dems have done much to protect choice as it is.. but I’m just saying.

Throwing the gays under the bus will get rid of the gay marriage wedge issue for them too. I’m sure they won’t really throw them under the bus. They will just fail to support them very vigorously – the same way they have failed to protect choice very vigorously.

Thus, the gays, like women, will be forced to stay in a party who only “tolerates” them instead of being in a party who works for their interests.

The DNC expects to get votes by not standing for anything. I guess they are only interested in power, but to what end, who the hell can say?

      • http://therealistblogs.blogspot.com/ troy m

I hear you Hype. I ready to join this NEW PROGRESSIVE PARTY i been hearing about.

    • http://www.arguewitheveryone.com ChrisXP

Ah, so the other shoe drops. Donna not only willing to throw ERA and Reproductive rights supporters under the Race Bus, even gays (did she mention Lesbians too? That would be her suicide, as she’s one).

This what gets me. She’s a Roman Catholic Black lesbian. Come on folks, how small is that demographic, let alone if she’s but 1 in 5 of all that exists? Something isn’t right in that makeup, like she picked the most improbable combination possible (if she adds transgender next, she’ll clinched almost all). I say this, because she’s doing what the GOP is doing with the SCOTUS, filling it with Catholics, with the most stern view of social progress.

Sounds similiar with Donna in the DNC?

Being a Black lesbian she would have to know how badly the Black community treats gays and lesbians. To turn a blind eye to that, says more that she’s trying to “pass” in that community for a general Black majority rule (if Donna continues on the race path that’s the ultimate goal — one race rule). Then from there tackle Black GLBT issues — that’s if she doesn’t say she “converted” later.

Donna showed her agenda for all to see now. It’s not about the sub-groups she’s even a part of — the GLBT community and the Catholic community — but one group that gets her noticed, the color of her skin.

Very cheap politicking and just as dirty as putting David Duke in her position (as he’d do the same exact thing — out with the GLBT and Catholics, and ensure White rule).

  • Dawnelle

Adorable cartoon! Too cute for such a sad topic!

    I’m such a terrible artist!
I really admire your work that I’ve seen so far PatR. Thanks for adding color to the usual black and white too!

  • StatBabe

Someone posted the demographic breakdown of the West Virginia primary, as reported by Byron York elsewhere on this blog. As it turns out, Obama lost EVERY SINGLE demographic in West Virginia–men, women, uneducated, educated, blue-collar, professional, low income, high income, etc. The ONLY demographic that was not polled were blacks since West Virginia is 95% white–not enough blacks there to poll.

The Obama-bots are already bashing the good citizens of West Virginia–talking about them being “uneducated”, “racist”, etc. Well, they better get over it–and quick! Because if Obama really expects to win the GE, he will NEED all those people who have backed Hillary!

If Larry is correct about a video of Michelle spewing a racist rant on whites, then Obama can kiss his ass goodbye in the GE–and it won’t be because whites are such racists–it will be because ANYONE reacts to racism, regardless of where it comes from!

Ironically, the racist rants of Reverend Wright (and by extension, Michelle’s racist rants) would NEVER have become an issue if the Obama campaign had not sought to make race THE issue of the primary campaign. Before the South Carolina primary, Hillary Clinton was actually polling BETTER than Obama among blacks, but the Obama campaign would have none of that. Hence, the cries of “racism” from the Obama campaign with EVERY SINGLE innocuous remark coming out of the Clinton campaign. Is it any wonder that many whites have reacted negatively to Obama playing the “race card”?

I just thought of something, folks, building on my previous post on this thread. If Wall Street has indeed decided that the GOP is a rogue elephant that must be put down, then this time the voting machines will be rigged to favor the Dems–and that is why the Dem establishment is so confident that they can win without us.

    Whaddaya think?

    • StatBabe

I just thought of something, folks, building on my previous post on this thread. If Wall Street has indeed decided that the GOP is a rogue elephant that must be put down, then this time the voting machines will be rigged to favor the Dems–and that is why the Dem establishment is so confident that they can win without us.

      Whaddaya think?

I don’t buy it. First, the ONLY reason that Wall Street has been backing ANY Democrat is because they see the handwriting on the wall–that is, they know that this year is the Democrats’ to lose. With Obama, Wall Street achieved two things–first, Obama is a weaker candidate in the GE than Hillary (and Wall Street has known this all along), and second, Wall Street sees Obama as more malleable than Hillary, if Obama somehow manages to win anyway.

As to the voting machines, the ones without a paper trail are not quite so pervasive since legislation has been passed in several states that require a paper trail while other states have moved to replace the touch-panel voting machines with optical scanners that are not quite so easy to rig. In addition, in some of the states where voter fraud was so rife (e.g., Ohio), state control has made a partisan shift. Now, I suppose that the Democrats are just as capable of rigging these voting machines as the Republicans are, but I don’t buy this idea that Wall Street would rig the election. And with Republicans running the companies that make these voting machines, it seems unlikely that the Democrats are really in a position to rig the machines.

Also, even if you accept that there was some manipulation of votes via these voting machines in 2000 and 2004, the truth of the matter is that the election has to be reasonably close to rig the election. Just think about 2000–if Gore had simply won his home state of Tennessee, Florida would not even have mattered! In the case of 2004, Kerry was such a weak candidate, it’s small wonder that he was ultimately defeated.

Frankly, I think that Obama is doomed, if he indeed becomes the Democratic nominee, which seems likely at this point. I hate this because I really think that McBush is VERY bad news! I am just hoping that the Dems will have a big year “down ticket” so that it will not matter who ends up in the White House.

Odd isn’t it that the Republican party provided safe harbor for the racists when the Democratic party found its soul in the 1960′s and championed civil rights for millions of people. (I’ve always loved the description of the ’60′s as a ‘mass jail break’ — thank God for that decade!)

It’s so sad that the Democratic party has morphed into the safe harbor of the CLASSISTS. You would be hard pressed to find a more accurate description of this mob of snobs. Upper-class toffs for Obama!!

    • cellocat

You know, I think that the Obama supporters see what is happening as another version of the 60′s, and that is part of why it has such power. They think they’re part of this wonderful, unifying, kicking the butt of the establishment force, and it’s electifying for them. Too bad they’re leaving behind inconvenient things like truth, real dialogue, inclusion, etc.

This is my coalition: Women have been messed over for many years by the Democrat Party and it appears that millions of “US” will be returning the favor, should this primary season continue on its current path. Hillary Clinton is clearly the best choice to be our party’s nominee for President. As a life-long Democrat, age 55, I think the way my party has hosed Hillary and their most loyal and largest voting block; women intolerable. I am confident the Democrat Party will pay a severe price for this blatant assault on women in November. Cry all you want about this being “sour grapes” but little good will result from your on-going efforts to rally Hillary’s staunch supporters around your chosen candidate instead of the people’s choice. Now, the Democrat Party leaders want women to get their pre- selected from the start, elite, wimp, Barack Obama elected in November. It will be cold day in hell before I comply and I also hope Hillary walks away from this Party. Most of the women, and many men as well, with whom I have contact are finished with the Democrat Party, now and forever. Also, many of “US” are starting a grassroots movement to insure these kind of sorry tactics employed by my now soon to be former party, never happen again. This clear favoring of Obama, making him the nominee because the party doesn’t want a woman, especially a Clinton woman, is more that I can tolerate. Of all the gall, the Democrat Party now expects “US” girls, including Hillary, to turn over our undying support to Obama. Sorry guys, this is not going to happen. Obama has no shot of winning in November without Hillary’s help and all of us, her supporters. Not on your life or in your wildest dreams is this going to happen. Democrat Party leaders take heed and you superdelegates had better wait to declare your support until the final results of all the primaries are tallied and the voices of all 50 states and territories are heard from. At that time, the real nominee of the people can be declared for the fall election. Let it be known that the damage has already been done to the largest voting block in America. However, it remains to be seen how deep these “bitterly disappointing and highly blatant attacks” are to women. In my mind, this is a travesty and affects all women of America. I for one will change my registration to Independent, and possibly Republican, on the day I vote for Hillary Rodham Clinton in the KY primary. Bye, bye and good riddance from Mary O’Bryan, Louisville, KY, to my former party, no matter what happens in the primaries left to come.

Don’;t worry guys, Obama is for real. It’s the replublicans who would not only want you to believe that junk, but to come over to their side where they promise “We will take good care of you.” The only problem is that there is no replublican party anymore. Too bad. Obama is not the kind of person that would reject people, much as I disagree, he will even welcome old hillary supporters too. Look, what he did, what we did, is historical. A phoney wouldn’t be able to pull it off. But I guess it all depends on what you want to believe in the past or the future. No one knows what the future holds for us. But we all know what the past did to us. Yeah, there are some that would want to keep it up. But most of us want to try to do it differently. Give the guy a chance, he has surprised all of us so far. And, look, you really don’t have a choice in the matter anymore. So knock on that door and come on in.

A retirement plan is an arrangement to provide people with an income
during retirement when they are no longer earning a steady income from
employment. Often retirement plans require both the employer and
employee to contribute money to a fund during their employment in order
to receive defined benefits upon retirement.
