With Edwards Relevance Trumps Respect

John Edwards committed a mortal sin. He joined the gang of liberal elitists busily sharpening their long knifes. He chose sudden relevance over democracy. He threw universal health care out the door without bothering to consider the consequences. Edwards will pay a steep price for this betrayal. Plenty of us will not allow the American people to forget what he did and with whom he aligned. Count on it.
Edwards’ endorsement reeked of sexism. But that should come as no surprise considering the multitude of sexist comments coming out of the mouth of Obama and his supporters. It was only yesterday that Obama called a woman reporter “sweetie”, a derogatory term that people with respect don’t utter.
Just listen to Edwards’ endorsement for proof of his complicity in the sexism that has unfortunately become so acceptable in the Democratic party. Of all places.
John Edwards endorses Barack Obama
“There is one man who knows and understands that this is a time for bold leadership. There is one man that knows how to create the change, the lasting change, that you have to build from the ground up.”
One man this and one man that. Sounds like an endorsement for the same old politics as usual to me. Surprised? Not me.
The pundit speculation is that Edwards’ endorsement was sought because Obama is having some real issues relating to ordinary Americans. And since Edwards is the “son of a millworker” they hope that the association will bode Obama well.
The backing from Edwards, the son of a millworker, could give Obama a significant boost not just with a key demographic but also with the party leaders and elected officials who ultimately are expected to determine the nomination through their status as superdelegates.
It’s amazing that the Obama campaign seems to believe it is ok to allow someone else’s associations with you matter if the consequences of that association reflect positively on you. But should known associations with unscrupulous and dangerous people cause others to have a negative reaction then the associations don’t mean a thing. Just more of the same old sexist double standard.
I remember well when Edwards and Obama tag teamed against Hillary at the YearlyKos Convention. They reveled that they were able to beat up on a woman in public and get away with it. Oh, they laughed. I’m sure Kos did too. They followed through a few more time as other debates. Then Edwards decided to criticize Hillary on her clothing choice during one debate and Obama decided to let her know she was likable enough in another. Real nice fellows these two. Swell chaps.
Rumor has it that this endorsement was bought and paid for. Obama surely hasn’t been shy about spreading the cash around to potential voters. He learned that Chicago style politics trick long ago. What else explains how people with no connection whatsoever to the Edwards or Obama suddenly received e-mails from Edwards asking them for money on the very same day that he made his endorsement public. And the only connection that people receiving these e-mails had in common was the DNC. So should we assume that the DNC has been bought and paid for by Obama’s non-stop money making machine? They did strike a money sharing deal.
It is ironic that Edwards chose to make his endorsement in Michigan. After all, both he and Obama denied the people of Michigan an opportunity to vote for either of them. With any good fortune the smart people of Michigan will see past this obvious pander fest and remember who it is that has been fighting for them. And it isn’t a man.
