The Ted Kennedy Situation [UPDATED with Hillary Clinton's statement]

UPDATE, simple and dignified:
Statement from Hillary Clinton
“My thoughts and prayers are with Sen. Ted Kennedy and his family today. We all wish him well and a quick recovery.”
[AN ADDITIONAL UPDATE BY ME IS BELOW.]

[It goes without saying that we are all saddened by this medical crisis, and are very upset for his family, particularly all of the children of his slain brothers who he helped to raise.]
Why are all the networks talking about him in the past tense? Methinks they know something they haven’t told us yet.
This next item absolutely floored me. In Obama’s statement, he said:
He
wasis one of my favorite people.
Uh. Okay. Isn’t that what you’d say about an old fraternity brother who died? And old neighborhood pal? But a United States senator? [I corrected the "was" to "is" -- it was hard to hear the first time because of a lot of noise in the background, but I listened again, and made the change.]
And CNN has been talking about the EFFECT that Kennedy’s condition (or death) would have on Obama’s campaign, which strikes me as utterly distasteful. One CNN reporter said:
Barack Obama is expected to come up here to Portland tomorrow but, depending on how things go with Senator Kennedy’s health — if things take a turn for the worse — it could UP-END THIS CAMPAIGN.
Heavens to mercy, let’s pray that that doesn’t happen!
UPDATE BY SUSAN: The CNN reporter says that Obama is enroute, following his Roseburg, Oregon rally to Portland for a rally. WE’LL SEE WHAT HE’s MADE OF then. Will he just go along with the campaign schedule? Or will he do what Hillary would do, and suspend the campaign, and travel to be with Kennedy’s family? (I KNOW IN MY BONES that that is what Hillary Clinton would do.)
Fox News just read a very classy statement from John McCain.
