Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, John Kerry and a host of their kind have divided a Nation in the name of racism cloaked as historical achievement. I am proud of the progress this Nation has made since the days of the Jim Crow South. I am proud of the young men and women who changed the world with the light of their lives. Barack Obama has had some struggles I am sure, but the halls of Occidental, Harvard, and the other elite institutions he was blessed to attend were not bastions of the hatred, fear, and anxiety, that successful Blacks have had to endure and overcome. He is plenty Black today, but he did not have to overcome that. When it mattered Barry was not Black. His Blackness in terms of cultural experience was and is a decision. Oh that the rest of us could excercise such options. I applaud his White grand parents who chose to love him when the Africans wanted nothing to do with him. I have been to Kenya. They did not take to my fair skinned companion at all. If Barack had a platform or even some authenticity perhaps I would be impressed. However, he doesn't, he is just a politician, probably the best ever. Not many people are as effective chameleons as Barack Obama. He has had a lifetime to practice his craft. If elected he will not be a Black President first or otherwise as defined by Toni Morrison in her assessment of William Jefferson Clinton.

you need to back slowly away from this blog. it is insanity. same with "ellen" above. i come here to watch the madness for entertainment, but that's about it. apparently, i am a troll, an enemy (yes, after trying to get to the heart of why supposedly thinking people would vote for McCain, i was called an enemy here), an Obamabot, an Obambimaniac, whatever. these people have taken the worst of Republican politics, and have internalized it. it is sad, and pathetic. but it's kind of fun to watch in a strange way. just don't take it personally. :-) enjoy!!

Bud, great analysis, as usual. I've been out of the country and it's amazing to hear how others perceive this primary season: a blood letting, was one description I heard.

I would NEVER vote for Obama for many reasons, but not the least of which is the unremitting sexism and misogyny that he and the kool aid drinkers feel justified in spouting. In fact, I will work my hardest to make sure he's never in office, for that reason only.

"“destroyed any chance of health care” Actually, that was the Republicans with the help of complacent left-wing Democrats"

Oh it gets better. The adviser who killed the Clintons' health-care reform because it did not have enough goodies for insurance companies was Jim Cooper, an insurance company lobbyist. Guess who is Obama's health-care adviser? The same Jim Cooper.

These Obamadrones don't know the first damn thing about their Messiah's actual polcies. Most of them just gape when I tell them that he wants to privatize social security (his adviser on THAT issue is that well-known fighter for the little guy (hahaha1) AUSTAN GOOLSBEE.

Do the 'bots know that Obama actually wants to have Colin Powell as one of his advisers? Yes, Colin "My Lai" Powell, hero of the neocon warmongerers, wh oput his lifetime of credibility on the line to promote Bush's war (and later "regreed" it, too late for all those dead soldiers and Iraqis, of course). Only Georbe Bush has more blood on his nands than Colin Powell, but Obama's "anti-war" supporters -- do they know about this? Do they care?

I haven't even touched on Obama's rather shocking statements that he wants to return our foreign policy to the halcyon days of George Bush I and Ronald Reagan. He didn't mention whether that included selling weapons to terrorists in order to fund the slaughter of pacifists, civil rights workers, priests, nuns, and children, by a group we called "freedom fighters" (Iran-Contra, for those baby bots who need to review their history). Is that what we are going to "return" to?

Spare me, 'bots. Many of us, by virtue of our very age, lived through the horrors of the Bush I and Reagan regimes and we have NO desire to return to them.

YES! Pm317, that's what I've thought from the get-go. I think everything about Obama is overrated: his intelligence, his "speechifying", his accomplishments (a thin gruel when compared to Hillary's meaty stew), and his appeal. I never found him inspiring but have always found Hillary deeply so. But then, unlike a lot of Obamaphiles, I'm a pragmatist, a realist, and I believe in researching candidates.

And, just as with first one progressive and then another, from Larry and Susan, Taylor and Jerome, all the way to Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame [!]--each one was vilified in turn for supporting Hillary Clinton. So, too, with Kristen.

Reading the comments in response to her Huffington Post piece, was a shocking display of Obama-Mania. Hateful. Ugly. Nasty. It was a crawl through the sewer.

The responses from Obama supporters could not be distinguished from the comments of Ann Coulter.

That is who these people are: Ann Coulter.

I am no longer a part of this "party of Coulter-Clones." So, I have no compelling reason to show party loyalty and vote for a nominee who is as corrupt as they come. Bush=Obama.

John Judis has yet another sign of the Bush-Clone Corruption we'll see with Barack Obama. Read the full column to see why Obama is really just OBush. Here's a taste:

The Wall Street Journal recently reported that last summer, Illinois Senator Barack Obama told officials in the Teamsters union that he favored ending the Independent Review Board (IRB) that was created in 1989 by the federal government to rid the union of organized crime. Tommy Vietor, a spokesman for Obama, confirmed the story, saying that the candidate believed that the IRB had "run its course" because "organized crime influence in the union has drastically declined." The Teamsters subsequently endorsed Obama for president, in late February.

Obama and the Teamsters bristled at suggestions that any deal was made. The Obama campaign also circulated a tape of a speech that Senator Hillary Clinton made last March to the Teamsters saying "at some point the past has to be opened," but Clinton's statement, like those made by Senator John Kerry in 2004, stopped well short of committing her to end oversight of the Teamsters. Based on the statements the newspaper quoted, it is fair to assume that The Wall Street Journal got the details right.

There are two reasons to be concerned about Obama's actions here. The first is procedural. Obama's promise to close down the IRB suggests a Bush-like contempt for the customary relationship between government and the judicial process. The president himself can't shut down the IRB. He can only recommend to his attorney general that he recommend to the U.S. Attorney in New York that it be shut down. But in these kind of touchy matters, presidents usually defer to the judgment of their attorney generals. By coming close to promising a shutdown, Obama was putting politics above judicial procedure--which is just the kind of "Washington" behavior that he likes to criticize his opponents for doing.

The second reason for concern is more substantive. Labor leaders have made plausible arguments for shutting down the IRB, but a Chicago politician should be extremely wary of acceding to them. If there is continuing mob influence in the Teamsters, it is probably centered in the Chicago area. And in the last decade, the Teamsters in Chicago have shown little enthusiasm for rooting out corruption in their ranks. As a veteran Chicago politician surrounded by a veteran Chicago campaign staff, Obama had to have known this--and that makes his warm words to the Teamsters all the more disturbing.

[...] ‘Obama is Bush Redux’ found at NO QUARTER: “The Obama supporters’ biggest insult, in these pages and others, is that Hillary supporters are Republicans, as if recoiling from disenfranchisement, racial politics, and blatant sexism makes one a Republican.
I won't vote for Obama in NOV. or in 8 years. I did not feel that way at the beginning of the primary season. My opinion is NOT the result of racism, religous fanatisism, or old age. I have formed my opinion of Sen. Obama because of his obvious racism, sexism, and lack of respect for the average person. He has shown himself to be a phony and a liar. I will NEVER vote for this man. The DNC obviously does not want my vote or they would stop this nonsense and nominate a canidate that can actually win the whitehouse and be an effective leader. If the choice comes down to McCain or Obama, I will vote for McCain. Hillary Clinton is clearly the most qualified to be POTUS. In a FAIR fight she would win the nomination and I believe she has the best chance of beating John McCain in the GE.
