I wish no ill will against any man...
Just maybe Letterman needs to learn a few life lessons.
Just maybe he will learn that he is not beyond common sense criticism.
Just maybe he will learn that making fun of people in sexist, racial or criminal ways is not really funny but demeaning.

Well, it was our misunderstanding. Right?

What gets me is he said he checked to make sure the palin's older daughter was in fact 18 now. If he could do research, why couldn't he manage to find out who was at the ball game?

I was all excited when I saw a quote on Yahoo, but later when I watched the actual apology, I thought, "No, that still won't do."

Good point.
I guess I meant that while I don't believe he's sorry, I hope the ones who laughed at the jokes believe it.

In a related story, I heard this AM that Joy Behar has changed her tune and instead of saying it's okay to laugh at the Palin daughters, now says she would've done the same as Sarah Plain if it were her own daughter.

It's all about the ratings. At least we know our complaints can make a difference.

Commission on Wartime Contracting

The Kabul embassy contract was dwarfed by the sheer number of projects that were examined by a different oversight body at a hearing the same day in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Commission on Wartime Contracting in Iraq and Afghanistan, an independent bipartisan body that was created by the U.S. Congress last year, issued an interim report on the shortfalls in 154 billion dollars worth of contracts issued by the U.S. government in Iraq and Afghanistan which employ 240,000 individuals, about 80 percent of whom are foreign nationals.

The commission did a peer review of 537 reports that had been issued to date by 11 government oversight organisations like the Special Inspectors General and the Government Accountability Office. All told, the commission staff calculated that investigators had issued 1,287 different recommendations to fix waste, fraud and abuse in the Pentagon but many had never been implemented.

The 111-page report also documents poor management, weak oversight, and a failure to learn from past mistakes as recurring themes in wartime contracting.

Hey BO, what are you gonna do about all this? Seems like a no brainer if you need money for Healthcare.

Yes, Imus apologized a lot and still got fired.

I recorded the Letterman show and watched the apology. Letterman looked exhausted and way older than I can recall. He's in a lot of trouble.

Thanks for the link, Kat. It is a very weak supposed apology, imo. He apologized for being misunderstood--that he didn't make clear he was joking about an 18 year old doing lewd acts out on the field with an old guy. Subtext--because she's 'obviously' incredibly loose? Oh yeah, and because it's perfectly ok to rip on an 18 year old private citizen who never hurt anybody.

He still doesn't get it by a mile. And I still don't buy he didn't mean the 14 year old--it was all over the news. Plus there was nothing about the 'slutty' so-called joke. What an a******.

Open thread -- good place to cheer about Letterman FINALLY offering a true apology. Sincere or not, at least he made the gesture toward the Palin family and those who were offended. (I still won't watch him, though.)
