msnbc upset because *fierce advocate* obama not such a fierce advocate after all

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow is finding out that President Obama is not such an advocate of gay rights, after all. The funny thing is that Rachel couldn’t see through Obama all along. Now, she is complaining because the President msnbc helped get elected, pined over, and well, hell, got all tingly over, defended the Defense of Marriage Act. (I’m having a deja vu…)

    I make it a point NOT to watch any NBC station. They lost me early in the last election with the HRC bashing. They got the hopey changey POTUS they wanted. Now all of us are suffering.

              Unfortunately we have more women to blame for Obama than men.

              Ladies we have to work together to better things and we cannot lie down for one man in hopes that he will treat us nice and they react in outrage when he treats as objects like other bad men.

              We have to insist in total respect and demand the dignity a potential mother deserves. We cannot turn a blind eye to women who bash women with whom they disagree.

              Women were some of the worst attackers of Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton.

              These women are the ones who we must blame…they are willing to submit to sexism and abuse for the attention of a man who doesn’t value them at all. What a travesty.

      lurkin, Warren, anyone, anyone??????? Rachel couldn’t play with the sexist likes of Olbermann and Mathews if she had supported Hillary, so she sold out and supported Obama to get her show.

      Too bad, because I want to like her, she’s smarter than the rest of the boys club on MSNBC, but no integrity apparently, or maybe she isn’t really that smart after all, and didn’t notice Obama had no record supporting gay rights, and that Hillary did? Plus Obama isn’t 1/16th as bold as Hillary as to actually stick to something out of principle not just popularity.

    You could have supported the candidate that actually marched in gay pride parades and is instituting equal privileges for gay couples in the State Department.

    Did Ms. Maddow really think that someone who hung out with the likes of McClurkin would stand up for someone like her? Talk about naive.

      There is no doubt that anti-gay sentiment is higher in the black population. And we now have a black Attorney General whose first speech called us all cowards in dealing with race.

      There is an old Scottish saying:
      “He that has a big nose thinks everyone speaks of it.”

      So that means race and black racial views trump everything?

I remember when Biden said something about he and Obama getting HIV tests together on a debate ( I remember vaguely…) and Obama never looked so uncomfortable. He will throw some bones out for the gay community, like he did the other day for federal employees, but he won’t spend one spec of his political capital on this issue. [Sorry folks - that doesn't mean ALL Black guys, but I would sure hate to be a Black male homo....some ethnic groups are much less accepting of this group than others. ]

      You’re right, of course, but it does bring me SOME joy, after the abuse I took from friends during the primary. Fortunately, I don’t have to say it to them, because they are seeing it for themselves every day.

      Tody he offers ‘some’ benefits (though not health care) to ‘some’ federal employees by presidential memorandum, which means when he leaves office, so do the benefits. Of course, same-sex couples pay taxes on these benefits, and I guess that’s good for the budget, as defined in the DOMA brief.

      Highly intelligent people are often drawn into cults by their offer of somewhere to ‘belong’. This is the only explanation I can give for some of my friends’ blind acceptance of everything Obama. Up to a point, and I think his attitude on GLBT issues is unexpectedly going to be a tipping point.

      Unmoved by the wars, the torture memos/photos, warrentless wiretapping, mountaintop removal, health care, etc, the GLBT community and its supporters are finally getting a taste of the contempt he has for anyone that he doesn’t think can do anything for HIM. Welcome to under the bus, folks. Fortunately, we’ve done some renovation and made it nice and roomy under here.

        On KGO this am, I heard a guy say, “I am disgusted and I won’t vote for BO again.

        I do not wish the “we told you so” on anyone but it is apparent that the truth and reason is not what got BO elected.

        Maddow can kiss my ass, for in her quest for achieving her own agenda much like Ed Shultz and the others in that barn yard, they are now surprised that The One and Dems are looking spineless? HUH? Were have they been?

        It is more of an insult by BO to “throw a bone” to the LGBT community, as an after thought than it is if he just said “see, I bamboozled
        you suckers and you just thought I was the answer to hope and Change.

    She must be a real idiot because all through the primary and the debates, Obama repeatedly said he believed marriage was between men and women … so did Hillary … and both advocated civil unions. So what did she expect?
    I’ve never watched Ms. Maddow but, from this clip, she sounds like she’s hanging out with Glen Beck as far as her delivery goes. As far as her logic goes, while she might be quoting Obama’s views on the DOMA and the position of the Justice Department, she apparently was not listening to Obama’s views on gay marriage during all of 2008.

    I haven’t read the brief on DOMA but I’ve picked up from other comments that the language is highly offensive, comparing homosexuality to incest and pedophila. If that’s the case then the Administration has no real respect for the gay community or their concerns and is simply giving lipservice, while attempting to reduce the pressure from his critics.

    Do as I say, not as I do, sort of thing.

    I want to ask a question: if gays cannot marry how are they going to prove they are a couple? Or this so called benefits will extend to anyone who fills out a form? I mean what will prevent a couple of straight roommates to pose as gays and apply for the benefits? Just curious…and ignorant. Thanks in advance for answers.

        Maybe they’ve set up the “conflict” to force the courts to decide. This might be the best way for any of these politicians to say “It’s not my fault, the court has decided.”

        at my office you can get domestic partner benefits for same or opposite sex couples who are not married. You both have to be on the lease or mortgage and you have to share a bank account and sign an affidavit before a notary that you are a “partnership.”

        A Gay Couple would be asked to produced a joint checking or savings account, a utility bill with both names, or a co-signed lease or mortgage.

        Any legal paperwork that shows financial interdependence between the two men or women usually suffices.

        A certificate of Domestic partnership or a civil union, of course, would also work.

        U.S. citzens married to foreigners have to do just that to get their spouse a two year conditional “green card”, and then they have to file another similarly documented petition two years later to remove the conditional basis.

      Frankly, there aren’t that many straight folks, especially guys, who want to pose as gay couples. I mean, that would really impact your love life, wouldn’t it?

      Black people occasionally will pass for white, but white people don’t try to pass as black. In the same way, gays pretend to be straight, but straights don’t pretend to be gay. “Benefits” don’t enter the picture. It’s a power issue.

      I just saw a movie on HBO based on this very premise – two straight firefighters pretend to be gay and get married so the one can have benefits for his children. Dan Akroyd was in it as the fire chief, and one of the firefighters was some currently famous actor, but I can’t think of his name, but his usually plays characters that have a juvenile personality.

    I do wish Rachel would have asked Dean why the Obama administration will be “changing their position” on these things later. Is he trying to argue that they don’t have time to do anything because of other more pressing matters (like tv interviews and speeches in other countries slamming America and having date nights)? I find that rather amusing since they did have time to put out this homophobic brief. Funny that a President has to have one position now and another one later. (Scratching head) But why??? Why??? When will that change in position come??? It couldn’t possibly be when the campaigns are inching closer to 2012, now would it????     In order not to completely haul BO out to the proverbial woodshed, Howard Dean, M.D., coyly pretends not to know his legal ass from his elbow. ‘I am more concerned that DOMA appears to be a violation of the Constitution’s “reciprocal contracts clause or whatever the lawyers call it…”‘ It’s called the Full Faith and Credit clause; and having spent so many years in the upper echelons of Party politics, and been Governor of the state that recently enacted the legalization of marriage between two people of the same sex, I am certain, you could have not only quoted the Clause – “Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State” – but also cited the section: Article IV, Section 1.

    Is it a coincidence the POTUS’ disappointing stance on gay issues has come to light at the very same time the fawning media are beginning to break rank? I don’t think so. Unlike many of his other flip flops, they can’t characterize his actions as “nuance”, or ignore them, or blame them on Bush. None of the usual excuses or rationalizations can be believably employed. His stance on gay issues is egg on their faces. Defending him would leave no doubt whatsoever about their bias and hypocrisy.

    So now he’s tossing out some crumbs to try to make amends — he knows he needs a fawning media more than they need him. He can’t maintain his charade without their complicity. We’ll find out rather quickly if crumbs are sustenance enough to get any strays to fall back in line and resume soldiering in lockstep on his behalf.

      I am thinking the line will be that it didn’t work because not enough believed it could work. It will be Limbaugh, Hannity and Fox News faults collectively that change didn’t come.       If Obama supporters do not like this, just wait until they figure out the health care stuff. It is so bad they are spinning before it is even coming out of Congress. They have to cut Medicare, research, tax employer health insurance to pay for the bank and auto industry bailouts.

      The centerpiece is what I call the Daschle doctrine which is roughly that the chronically ill and elderly should receive minimum (or none) treatment because it does not meet cost/benefit goals and they are going to die anyway. It is also a good way to thin the herd and cut the cost of Social Security, Medicare, and pensions because they (and everyone eventually) will die a little sooner. Saves a lot of money to pay off his contributors. This is the sacrifice they talk about.

      Obama is from the Chicago political compost heap, and that’s Richie Daley’s favorite excuse, “I did not know that my nephew was putting the screws to City and County worker pension funds to the tune of almost $70 million for dubious real estate investments” (that tanked) in partnership with Allison Davis, a partner in the law firm that had employed Obama several years back. Daley claims that he only found out when he read the story in the paper, and that he told his nephew to quit messing around with public pension funds, but his nephew ignored him, and what’s an uncle to do?

    Rachel Maddow and all the other Obama zealouts are not very good judges of character. If they could not see through The Chosen One and are just now getting “a little bit disappointed” then she is really brain dead. Haven’t watched CNN or MSNBC since they started the Hillary bashing and they decided to become a P.R. firm for Obama. Here in Chicago, when Obama did not attend the Gay/Lesbian parade last June (this was a VERY BIG DEAL here) and he was in town at the time, it was pretty obvious he didn’t give a darn about it at all. That was the signal for anyone who was interested. By the way, Hillary Clinton did attend this event.

      Reports at the time said he spent the day working out, getting a haircut, and getting a massage–OMG, how gay is that combination?!

      That’s when I started thinking the stories about him being gay are true. Then recently, when in France, he refused dinner with the French president and his wife, Carla Bruni. I ask you, what straight man would not want to sit a table eating french food and drinking good wine with Carla Bruni?

      Being a self-hating gay man would explain more than a few things about Mr. Fierce Advocate’s (cough, cough) treatment of the GLBT constituency.

        Sorry, I missed that one about the O’s refusing dinner with the French president and his wife. I am flabbergasted! Do you think it has something to do with his food choices? Since he “admits” to being a muslim at some time, perhaps he only like muslim style food and tries to cover it up when out in public. Just a thought. He pretends to eat American food like pizza, but who knows if he really does or not. Ordering pizza could have just been for show. When he is alone, maybe he eats nuts and dates like the prisoners at Gitmo are provided (they are given special food based on their religious preferences). The Obamas should be ashamed of themselves. Their rudeness to our European friends is outrageous.

    I am not impressed by Dean’s argument that O didn’t know the wording that was so offensive. O didn’t know much about the stimulus package he pushed because he didn’t read that either. How can “not knowing” something with his name on it be a good excuse?

    Somehow I don’t think so; and I also don’t think Hillary does anything much without KNOWING WHAT THE DETAILS ARE.

    As for belonging to the Democratic Party, there appeared to be two types of members before the primary: those who just looked at issues and voted for the party they peceived as having the same stance on those issues and those who, when looking at issues, still felt the democratic system set up to work fairly was the most important issue.

    I don’t belong any longer to the Democratic Party because it clearly showed me that it was NOT a democratic party, no matter what its perceived stance was on any of the issues.

    We can all believe in fairy dust if we want and maybe we can all believe people who perceive of themselves as journalists will quit thinking in terms of party and will begin looking at character no matter what political party the candidate belongs to.

    And all my friends and family who so easily voted for O without knowing anything about his character simply because of the stance they THOUGHT he took on issues are, perhaps, now the ones who will be more concerned about the character of the candidate–I did say “perhaps” because I also know many, many people who voted in this last election don’t take time to know either issues or candidate character.

    I find I belong best now to the great party of independents and am happy to know there are as many of us as are in each of the other two parties.

    I don’t think the POTUS really wants the general public to know about it, and his allies in the media seem to be obliging him, as usual.

    That One’s house of cards is falling and a lot faster than I would have imagined. Has it been less than six months? He’s on track to alienate everyone except the Africa American community by the end of the year. Hell, he might even throw THEM under the bus. Like he cares because “They have no where else to go.”

    Meanwhile in Foggy Bottom, I sense that a true mistress of 11th dimensional chess (who made that crap up anyway) is at work. Notice how she still has her finger on the pulse of the nation and leads by example, yet keeps her hands clean because she’s not involved in domestic policy.

    Mark my words, expect a high profile resignation in 2010, a re-energized candidate in 2011 and a fraud to be primiaried in 2012.

    And on Tuesday, Mariah Carey’s husband, Nick Cannon, was using the White House as a backdrop for a promo of the NBC reality show “America’s Got Talent,” which he hosts.
    The White House had cleared Cannon in to do the spot. The rapper/actor was on the North Lawn giving his pitch while the president of South Korea’s motorcade rolled by in the background.
    “Talent is taking over the world,” he shouted, as the pillars of White House gleamed in the distance.

    Nice to know the White house has been reduced to such garbage, I am going to an 11 on the piss off scale tonight!

    You know, Obama’s plan of extending benefits to federal government employees kind of seems like a form of “outing” federal government employees to me…

    Those who are perhaps afraid politically to come out are denied benefits, and those who apply for the benefits are forced “out”…

    And what about the rest of the country? Are federal government employees getting special treatment? (do all other partners get benefits around the country?)
