And yes, I don't think good policies are enough... I think if you look back at Carter's admin. you'll see he was actually right on target on a lot of things - but he didn't have the charisma to get the people behind him. He didn't have the political skill to get things done. It takes more than just good ideas and good intentions. Now does that mean I'm sold on Obama's intentions and good ideas? No. Not at all - I'm concerned that he is far too much in the pocket of big business. I'm concerned that he is too much of a centrist. I'm concerned that he's not a true progressive. But at the same time... I think it's possible that he really is a progressive and he's playing political games ... pragmatic games ... in order to get what he wants done. He obviously has taken a close look at what Clinton did at the beginning of his admin and is trying to avoid those early traps... Clinton started off left and swerved to the center... I'm hoping Obama is going to slowly push this country left (where I believe it should go) in a way which allows him to keep his popularity and actually get things done.
