Democrats Who Reject Obama

If Hillary Clinton had no other reason to keep running for the Democratic presidential nomination, it would be to demonstrate that Tim Russert, Keith Olbermann, Maureen Dowd, David Broder and the Beltway media gasbags don’t decide American elections.

Last week, Sen. Barack Obama, the supposedly inevitable Democratic nominee, lost the West Virginia primary by 41 points. Democrats haven’t taken the presidency without winning the Mountain State since 1916. To use a geographically appropriate metaphor, if there has ever been a canary in coal mine primary, that was it. Naturally, the media consensus saw a meaningless result in a race they’d already called for Obama. Evidently, bitter West Virginia rednecks don’t watch cable-TV.

In 2000, the same pundit chorus urged Al Gore to quit in Florida for the sake of the country (and the Republican party). Everybody knows how that worked out. Today, Gore’s a Nobel laureate. George W. Bush, like Obama a uniter, not a divider, became the most unpopular, ineffective president in U.S. history. Ever heard any media princelings explain how they went so comprehensively wrong? Me neither.

If nominated, Obama can’t possibly defeat Sen. John McCain without bringing Clinton voters to him. Recently, however, I’ve been hearing from many passionate Democrats who say they can’t and won’t vote for him in November. So I asked a few to explain why.

Mine is no scientific survey. Ranging from 26 to 86, my correspondents live in seven states, north, south and midwest. They don’t know each other personally. None participates in politics except on a local, volunteer basis. I chose them because they’re unusually articulate.

Most think Obama a sure loser in the McGovern, Dukakis tradition. They believe he’s totally unqualified. “I‘ve voted for every Democrat from President to dog-catcher since 1952. That will end with Obama,” insists H., in Maine. “He won’t get 150 electoral votes, more than he deserves. The Democratic party’s been teetering on the edge of extinction. Obama’s arrogance will kill it…

“Just four years out of the state senate. If he were white or female, his candidacy would be a joke. Imagine if he’d opted to run for vice-president with Hillary. McCain would lose, Democrats would come close to 60 Senate seats and pick up 35 in the House. The Democratic left’s need to swoon after eight years of a moron, coupled with unbridled Clinton-hatred, will produce a disaster for the party and country.”

It’s the Obama campaign’s cynical use of race beginning in South Carolina that’s the deal-breaker for others. “He is making his way to Denver by dividing our party over race, which is maybe the most idiotic campaign tactic ever,” writes C. in Kansas. “This time the witch hunt is coming from our side. It’s heartbreaking. Obama supporters want you to think Bill and Hillary Clinton are lifelong members of the KKK. The audacity of hope campaign has had to audacity to go there…This fall, they’ll try to make nice and talk unity, but the people they alienated in the most hateful way won’t be there. They deserve to lose for being so callous and childish.”

J. in Florida agrees. “Obama and his supporters’ use of the ‘race card’ against the Clintons (with the help of the in-the-tank media) is sickening. Now we have vile, racist, crazed-for-power Hillary. Obama means to avoid the ‘divisiveness’ of the Clinton years by blaming it on them. That’s a despicable lie, and he knows it. The only way of avoiding divisiveness is to cave to the Republican agenda, which I believe he’s more than eager to do.”

“He and his supporters,“ J adds, “have systematically sacrificed the central constituency of the Democratic Party–the poor and working class–on the altar of constituencies who look to politics for reaffirmation of their identity: college students and childish Sixties neolibs. (The African-American constituency makes sense, so no gripes there.)”

By abandoning the principle of universality in health insurance, most think Obama has guaranteed that meaningful reform cannot be achieved. Z in Georgia adds that Obama’s vagueness on economic issues foretells disaster. “He has no perceptible position on the economy other than: ‘We can do better. Yes we can. Say it with me.’ I foresee broken campaign promises followed by belt-tightening austerity measures in a one-term Presidency. In short, Jimmy Carter in a better-tailored sweater.”

“I view the Obama candidacy as a narcissistic endeavor by a mediocre politician dividing Democrats along social vs. economic progressive lines,” J insists. “He’s forcing a choice between winning in 2008 and possibly saving Roe vs. Wade and promoting gay marriage versus abandoning the poor and working class.”

“I’ve decided I won’t help Obama and his personality cult transform the Democratic party into an organization that represents only the interests of rich social liberals.”

What do I think? I suspect most will grudgingly return by November, but that non-African-American working class voters won’t.

Initially, it was simply about his inexperience. But after seeing some of his success, it took me by surprise and I started digging into his background and voting record. Then I began to get concerned, and a bit suspicious. Which then escalated to outrage with his passive aggressive tactics against the Clintons, and ultimately the voters.

I’m not entirely sure what I will do in November except for one thing…I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR BO!

  • xdcc

Just flush the DNC already. The Hillocrats are a HUGE voting bloc and don’t need Obama nor the DNC. The Republican party is moving toward the left of center already (lookup McCain, Schwarzenegger, and GOP rebranding) and they are not as good as democrats in marketing to minorities and they will be happy to appease disenfranchised Reagan-Dems/Hillocrats. There are better options out there than turning our country’s sovereignty over to the UN and other wackoness that is Obama. McCain is not going to cause anymore war than Obama and his Afgan/Pakistan/war/escalated-Russian/China-meddling plans (see Brezinski) the US occupation of Iraq will not end no matter who gets to the White House. Issues like abortion, gay marriage, etc are not in jeopardy. McCain will have his hands full cleaning up Bush’s mess of the economy etc.

Don’t be fooled by a Hillary VP slot. Voting against Obama helps her in the long run. Voting against Obama nearly gives Hillary the White House in 2012. So voting against him is actually voting for her. What more do you need?

Plus it’s the biggest and most powerful message you can make. It’s payback time!

Remember Remember the Forth of November.

Of all the threads going today the conference call one is the most important! I urge my friends here to focus extra attention to it! I just posted this there:

Susan you might want to make this the top thread for the rest of the night. It is very important!

The absence of troll poop in this thread proves it scares them. They know Hillary will do fine in the rules committee so they won’t want to point attention too much to this topic. “Mission accomplished” indeed.

Please participate heavily by clicking here.

And listen to the conference call. You will find great solace and strength after listening! I guarantee!

I,m a lifelong dem, fiscally conservative, strong on defense, progressive on social issues, particularly civil rights,in favor of help for less fortunate(school lunch, educational grants, middle class tax relief, etc.)and don’t have a racist ,sexist or for that matter a homophobic bone in my body.I would be delighted to vote for a qualified african american for president, but will not be bullied or tricked into voting for the allmighty MSM’s latest feel good, unvetted flav of the month. The media coverage has been a complete disgrace and has risen to the level of affirmative action for BHO. He is far more liberal than the American public, comes from a radical background and is currently unprepared to be president .The use of the race card against the Clintons of all people, while hiding J. Wright in his bacground is nothing short of astounding.

Everybody can vote for who they want. Talk to y’all later–when Obama’s in the White House.

  • Cindie

The DNC, Main Stream Media and Pundits, and Obama Supporters and Super Delegates.
It seems to me that you hear what you want to hear and you see what you
want to see, but let me be extremely clear on what has gone on during
this primary season and what will happen after it is over.
First of all to the Obama voters, I cannot speak for the White Obama
voters someone else would have to speak to them. However, I can speak
to the African American Voters because I am an African American. It is
easy for you to try to justify 90-92% of you voting for Obama, but the
truth is the truth. You are voting for Obama simply because he is an
African American. Let me ask you a question. How many of you did what I
did and researched both candidates equally; How many of you pulled down
the policy and voting records and evaluated them against each other?
How many of you sat down and thought about the things that are
affecting you on a daily basis and then took a good solid look at both
candidates and made a decision? How many of you, if your life or the
life or your children depended on it, can easily list two or three
bills that Obama has voted on or written? How many of you know his
stance on Healthcare, the Economy, and Education? If your life depended
on it right now today, how many of you know exactly what Barack Obama
stands for. How many of you know what the change is that he has
promised? If your life depended on it could you explain what the Change
actually is? I say this because I find it offensive that my own
friends, family members and co-workers choose to call me a sell out
because I am a Hillary Clinton Supporter and I simply say to them, I am
not interested in making History. I am interested in the future of this
country that my nine year old child will grow up in, period. I have
done the homework. I have made a decision and I am sticking to it. It
offends me even more when fellow African Americans feel that it is ok
to walk up to me on the street or at my Childs school and say to me,
’so do you think he is gonna do it? Do you think Obama is going to
    win’? What makes them think first of all that I am an Obama Supporter;
and when I tell them I am not, why do they have the audacity to say to
me, ‘come on sister we owe it to him’. How can you just assume because
I am an African American that I will automatically vote for Barack
Obama?. Ask yourselves the tough questions. Step back and take a good
look at yourselves and see what you come up with. To those supporters
who have been so vile and disrespectful to Senator Clinton, you are the
reason why the party is being torn apart and it shows your lack of
knowledge in what your candidate stands for, because according to him,
he is the great unifier. But his followers seem to be the great
dividers. All you have to do is take a look at the blogs. Debating the
issues is one thing, but vile personal attacks and nasty rhetoric is a
sign of the characters of those who support him. This says to me that
if he were to be elected to office, you would not hold him accountable.
You would continue to bury your heads in the sand. How can you Unify a
country when you continue to use the Race Card. Everytime someone
disagrees with Senator Obama, they are labeled racist. His
Administration would be mired in constant back and forth about race. If
you do not agree or you speak out against him, you will be considered
racist. This is the type of White House we would have and nothing would
    get done.
To Senator Obama: Your arrogance is not becoming. The way that you talk
down to people is not attractive. You are asking us to put you in
charge of the people of the United States of America, yet you act as if
you are Superior to us. You take us for fools, by expecting us to
believe that you had no knowledge of what your Pastor was preaching for
20 years. You expect us to believe that you and your campaign did not
inject race into this campaign, but those of us who viewed this primary
with clear open eyes, know what you have done and we will have our
voices heard in November. It is not your race, take it from me I am a
sister, it is your lack of substance and your inability to come up with
your own views and your own policies, and we will be heard in November.
You are supposed to be a Uniter, but you have caused more division in
this country than I have seen in the past 30 years.
To Senator Clinton: I support you 150%; I know in my heart of hearts
that you are truly a champion for the people. I have known your work. I
have researched your policies and I have watched you during this
campaign. In times of trouble you are the one that I would want to have
my back because I know that you would go down fighting for us. Thank
you for your body of work for the American People, although it may not
feel as though they appreciate it right now. Those children that have
healthcare because of you Thank you; those women that are able to spend
time with their children after their birth; or those children who are
able to take time off work to take care of their elderly parents,
without fear of losing their jobs due to your hard work on FMLA Thank
you. The people of New York Thank you. This country is lucky to have a
fighter like you, although they do not deserve it. Thank you for your
    brilliance.
To the Main Stream Media and Pundits, you chose to praise this unknown
man without thoroughly vetting him and now it is too late. You, I hope,
will take full responsibility for this when he tanks this country. You
all do not even have the common decency to act as if you are trying to
    be fair and balanced. Chris Matthews cannot stop salivating over Obama;
Tim Russett seems as if he gets angry every time Hillary wins, his eyes
just bug out of his head. It is a sad thing for me to say that I have
gotten all of my fair and balanced news from Fox News Network, which is
totally unbelievable. You have assailed Hillary Clinton and tried to
make a Mockery out of Bill Clinton. You along with Barack Obama and his
camp, have made the case that Bill Clinton is somehow a Racist because
he said something that was totally true. Because of your dislike for
the Clintons, you have trashed them constantly. and you are the ones
who started the whole ‘The Clintons’. I do not see the name Bill
Clinton on the ballot. It is totally disrespectful the way that you
have treated President Clinton and Senator Clinton; absolutely no
respect. You have failed the American People and it will come back to
haunt you; let me see you spin the disaster which is Barack Obama.
To the DNC: For 22 years I have been a loyal member of this party, a
party that I thought was the party of the people. But I now see that
you all are nothing but the good old boys club. You have totally thrown
Senator Clinton under the bus. Someone who has been loyal to this party
and fought for this party; someone who has shown so much strength and
passion for the people, because you cannot break away from the good old
boys club. It took this long Primary season to see just how flawed and
undemocratic your system really is. First of all you penalize the
American People, the voters, for what their legislators did. You did
not have the common sense to say, ‘ok we will fine the Michigan and
Florida Democratic Party monetarily for moving up their primaries’. No,
you chose to take away their right to have their votes counted. How
undemocratic is that at a time when we have soldiers coming home in
body bags because they are fighting in a country to give others the
right to simply vote. Yes the candidates agreed, but why should they
have had to in the first place. No one had the common sense to say that
we cannot disenfranchise millions of Americans? You have a system where
someone can win an entire state and come out with only 10 or 13
delegates more that the person that lost. How is that Democratic? That
means that the notion of one man one vote is not the what this party
runs off of. You have a system of Caucuses, which does not allow for
elderly and hardworking Americans to participate in; is that
democratic?, You put Super Delegates in place to make decisions and
vote how they want to, but mid game because it does not benefit the
candidate that you want, you strong arm them into voting how you want
them to vote. This is the party of the people? You have a system where
you have a number of 2025 delegates and neither candidate has reached
that mark; but you declare a winner and then the good old boy network
decides that they will come out in droves to back him up, even though
millions have not voted. So then you are saying that the Super
Delegates make the decisions? Which is it?
To the Super Delegates: There is something to be said about Character
and what I have seen in the last couple of months has no signs of it.
For those of you who backed Hillary Clinton in the beginning and then
felt it necessary to throw her under the bus when she was behind in the
delegate count or was being declared down and out by the pundits, you
are the reason why the Democratic Party is divided; those types of
antics are unprofessional and disingenuous. It is one of two things:
You were backing her because you thought she would win, or; You backed
her because you believed in her candidacy, her policies and what she
stood for. If it was the latter, no matter what the numbers said or
what the Pundits said, you would stick with her. It is called courage
and conviction, something that her true supporters have shown. For
those African American Super Delegates who have been threatened and
brow beaten by your fellow African American Colleagues, Talk Radio and
constituents, thank you for having a back bone and standing up for what
you believe in. That is what true Character is all about. I suspect
that the turn coats will hear from their constituents in the future.
Jumping on the winning bandwagon does not take any effort, but standing
firm to your convictions takes everything.
What will happen next? The Pundits, the DNC, and Barack Obama
Supporters have all said, ‘Oh people are just saying that they will
vote for McCain or stay home in November, but that will not happen. The
party will come together’. Understand this loud and clear. We did not
vote for Hillary Clinton because she is a woman. We did not vote for
Hillary Clinton because she is White We voted for Hillary Clinton
because we felt that she was the best person for the job and that she
would fight for the people of this country. We did not vote against
Barack Obama because he is Black or he is a Man. We voted against him
because we felt that he was not the right person for the Job. We felt
that he is not experienced enough; We felt that he was not honest about
the way that he feels about this country; We felt that he has no
substance; We felt that he gives great speeches, but has not backed
them up; We felt that he gets defense when he is questioned about his
policies and his way of thinking. What makes you think that that has or
will change? We will Not vote for Barack Obama. We will take our
chances with John McCain because at least we know that he loves this
country without a doubt. At least we know that he has the National
Security background in the event of any issue; At least we know that he
has a record of reaching across the aisle, even at the dismay of his
party. We know absolutely nothing about Barack Obama. We will not vote
for him no matter how you wave it off or dismiss what we would or would
not do. It will not happen. Common sense tells us that in the next four
years nothing but clean up will take place. I will take my chances with
someone that I know where he is coming from (McCain), as opposed to
someone who has shown no substance and only the promise of Change in
Washington (Obama). Obama? who is supported by all of the very
Washington Insiders that he chastises, Obama? who will be so indebted
to the old Washington Insiders he will not know which way is up. Now
you ponder that. Pundits, say what you must for ratings and see what
happens in November. And by the way, if and when Hillary Clinton gives
her Concession speech, it will be the last time that we will watch the
mainstream media again until election night. No convention, no
commentary, no Sunday shows. We are not interested in the Dog and Pony
show that the Democrats will make Hillary Clinton perform for the so
called good of the party, after the party turned their backs on her. We
love Hillary, but we will not vote for Obama because she said so. We
are not robots and we will not drink the Kool-Aid. Keep this in the
    bank until Election day.
    Sincerely,
    An Ex-Democratic Voter,

    Marla Jo

At the Iowa rally on tuesday night, only white, middle-aged working class people were allowed on stage with obama. However, the handlers were choosing everyone by how they looked, alone-so you could presumably be rich as long as you looked the part. This came straight from one of his Iowa workers who was calling all over and trying to recruit white middle class people to sit on stage-I got called because I knew this guy who thought because I was liberal, that I would be supporting obama.

How can we find out who the downticket candidates are?
    http://www.sourcewatch.org/index

lists all of the SD’s by state and indicates which candidate they’ve supported. If any of them are up for reelection (that voted for Obama) it might make them rethink their choice if they know that hillary supporters will NOT vote for them.

It’s a neat site. It breaks down and lists all SD’s, state-by-state and by district.

Good posting. Thanks. But I disagree about one thing: It’s not just the white working class that won’t return to vote for him- neither will Hillary’s women (and some are not white or working class). And… the more the media heads insist we “will come back to the fold” the more it encourages me to convince others not to vote for Snoboma.
Howard Dean and Donna Brazile should be given a one way ticket out of the party for shoving this candidate down our throats.

Of course its bizzarro world. Obama is supposed to be the Washington outsider. But what have we seen? We see all thr DC pundits and democratic politicians who’ve been in office way too long and some who’ve been beatin kissing his feet for a job or to gain power. The corporate media salivating over him and repeating his talking points. Why do you suppose all these “insiders” are trirling around him. Its all an illusion that he will bring new people, especially the youth into politics. Here comes Summer. As vacations begin and people go home from school, they will get busy playing, partying, etc. Thats why they want Hillary to drop out. As soon as Obama is the candidate, they can go back to downloading music and chatting on Facebook. The party will become an afterthought after this election and the down-ticket races that really make a difference will suffer. You think any of these college students will pay attention to school board elections?

  • Jeremiah “God Damn AmeriKKKA” Wright

If you are a Hillary supporter and they deny her the nomination.

I know this great lady will ask you to vote for Obama.

And this great lady knows that in our hearts we can’t.

    So you have 3 Choices:

    Vote Obama
Write in Hillary or Abstain (same thing)
    Vote McCain

For every vote cast for Hillary as a write in Obama has to do nothing.

Here is why you vote McCain. For every additional vote McCain gets Obama has to get two votes to offset it, one to negate it and one to compensate for us not voting for him.

    Mr. Lyons,

If the DNC is reckless enough to nominate this man, you have my word that neither I nor my family will grudgingly return anywhere.

Senator Obama will never get my vote. I did’t vote for him in February and I won’t vote for him in November.

He was not qualified in February — before he was vetted — and now that we know about Wright, Rezko, Auchi, Ayers, Bitter Gate, NAFTA Gate, Sweetie Gate and the salient fact that this wishy washy dissembler doesn’t even bother to do his homework on the issues before er umming his way in front of the American people, you can bet that he is thoroughly unelectable.

McCain will make mincemeat out of him.

Let us hope the DNC wakes up. They ignore these facts at their peril.

Great to see someone is offering proposals rather than just the vague idea of “change.”

    5/22/2008
Senator Clinton Heralds Fix To Student Crisis

It’s a good day for American students and their families, who will no longer have to worry that they won’t be able to finance their college education. I’m pleased that the House and Senate passed legislation similar to a proposal I made on the campaign trail, to address the student loan crisis, and that the Bush Administration implemented the measure in a timely fashion. This measure improves access to student loans by allowing the Department of Education to purchase loans from lenders. This legislation will help ensure that America’s economic crisis does not stand in the way of students seeking a college education.

Since early last year, I have been calling for action to address the subprime mortgage crisis. Instead of listening, President Bush stood by as the subprime crisis spiraled into a larger housing and credit crisis that is driving our economy downward. This year, the economic crisis threatened to claim another victim: student loans. I’m very pleased that instead of ignoring the problem and hoping it would go away, this time, the President listened, and is now implementing a commonsense solution, passed by Congress.

I’m also pleased that the Direct Student Loan program has doubled in size since last year, and that the Department of Education is taking action to ensure that it has the capacity to administer those loans effectively. I called for the Department of Education to enact a temporary, fast-track alternative to expedite new applications to the Direct Loan program. The Direct Loan program is a cost effective, simple alternative to private loans that has proven to be a real lifesaver during this time of turmoil in the financial markets.

As thousands of students prepare to start their college education for the next school year, Wednesday’s announcement by the Department of Education sends a strong message that the students loans they need will be there when they need them. Congress sent that message with the passage of the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act of 2008, and I am pleased that the President signed the bill into law and that the Administration acted on the authority it was given.

This campaign has really helped me find myself. Although I was raised in a college town with a professor dad and bookish mom, have too much education myself, lived my whole adult life in lefty east coast cities doing hi-status intellectual labor, I am, apparently, a racist, ignorant, working class, aging, bitter, middle-aged female bigot. How else to explain my support for Hillary Clinton? So thanks to Obama and his army of blogging and broadcasting bullies for helping me finally understand who I really am ;-)

    • Bleeding Heart

Don’t forget…you didn’t vote for Hillary, you voted against Obama. Because, you know, you’re a racist and all that other stuff.

      • Kay Green

Uh huh, same old accusations, and drivel. The race baiting won’t work, We don’t have an obligation to vote for Obama because he is black.. Does he have the qualifications and the character to be president? Can he withstand the heat in the White house if he wimps out when the pressure comes down on him? Ok so call me racist if you want, I know I am not.. But if you are saying I have to vote for a black man because that now makes me non racist, you are full of it. Why should I vote for the color of someone ‘s skin, does that make him somehow qualified to lead the country??? Can you even give any rational sane support why I should even vote for Obama other than if I don’t I am a racist? Isn’t that a pretty lame and weak argument to support him????A ya’ll vote for Obama if you don’t vote for him you are all a bunch racists? I thought a person’s skin color here shouldn’t be an issue here.I’m supposed to vote for a black man not based on his merits but his skin color , how laughable.

    • http://deleted AnninCa

amen. I was even told by another respected blog that I was race-baiting because I brought up Wright.

Good grief. Nobody who has ever met me in my entire life has ever suggested that.

My young friend, a Latino guy?

He keeps saying, “That can’t be.”

      (He’s a fan, obviously. *haha)

But yes, I’m with you. It’s been insulting to the point of making me take a stand.

      I’m not the race-baiter.

      Others are, however.

And they will have to own it.

Let’s consider why Obama is having difficult convincing working class citizens that he’s on their side. Maybe it’s coming from instinct or maybe it’s coming from the incredible number of folks in his finance committee and economic advisor committee that clearly profit from the financial losses and job losses of ordinary Americans.
    For your consideration:

Today, “Obama has asked former Fannie Mae CEO Jim Johnson to begin vetting potential vice presidential picks, Democratic officials said Thursday. Johnson did the same job for Democratic nominees John Kerry in 2004 and Walter Mondale in 1984.

Obama refused to acknowledge Johnson’s role when The Associated Press asked the Illinois senator about it in the Captiol Thursday. ”

    source:http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/O/OBAMA_VEEPSTAKES?SITE=DCUSN&SE CTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

COMMENT: Weren’t there some issues concerning Mr. Johnson when he was in charge of FNMA? Seems to me there were some accounting irregularities involved. I’m trying to go back into old press releases to find information, but I recall Mr. Johnson is a big politics and usual guy and mostly got the job at FNMA because of his DNC fundraising talents for Mondale.

FNMA is one of the places were mortgage securitization occurs. The very market at the core of the current financial crisis that is taking homes from so many disadvantaged households.

WHO is Obama’s Finance Chair? None other than Penny Pritzker. She and her family were central to the innovation known as “Mortgage Backed Securities,” which are now at the center of the financial crisis and real estate melt down.

    source:http://gdaeman.blogspot.com/2008/02/who-is-penny-pritzker-and-why-is-she.html

Let’s not even get started with infamous Slum Lord Tony Rezko or the University of Chicago Economist Austin Goolsbee whose publications include “The Impact and Inefficiency of the Corporate Income Tax”. This is the same guy that assured the Canadians that Obama’s position was all political rhetoric.

So, a few of us Economists that are progressive Democrats are not hopping on to that Obama Bandwagon just yet. You should be known by the company you keep not by the words you read from the teleprompters.

  • Bleeding Heart

Why is it always about women supporting Hillary, Obama has a problem with women, women might not vote for Obama, etc.? This seems like an attempt to marginalize Hillary’s support. The MSM are trying to make everyone believe that only grandmas support her. Obviously women are an important base of support, but only part of her coalition. Brace yourself — I’m young, well-educated (M.D.), male, very ideologically liberal, definitely an “egghead,” and an elitest (guess what, I can be because I’m not running for president). All of that and I support Hillary! Even though the media tell me every day that I should be supporting Obama because of my demograhpics, I still don’t. Hillary’s support is very wide and deep — don’t buy the hype.

    • http://deleted AnninCa

It’s cheap journalism, that’s all. Paint a broad picture. Ignore the nuances. They work off of one another. So-n-so says this, they respond.

Journalism is like any other industry in our country. They are going through horrible times with cutbacks that severely limit their ability to do good work. Welcome to our world.

So they go for the quick and dirty. I compare it to when I worked in the Financial Industry as it was going down the drain. We compared our company to a corpse. We had the name. We put rouge on her. Dressed up up. And managed to find a merger partner before we got closed down by the Feds. *haha

But there was only a shell of a company left. The commercial loan portfolio? 95% bad loans. Credit card offers? Completely outsourced. We made more money off of bad checks than off of credit card sales.

Same thing now going on in journalism. It’s a collapse.

The LA Times, for example. Everyone is mad at their editorials being so in the tank for Obama. They have gone through 3 editorial managers in less than a year. LOL* They are in complete chaos.

And that’s the only paper I’m truly tuned into. My guess is the same is going on at the NY TIMES.

So it’s just a part of the economy collapse.

      • Bleeding Heart

I think you let them off too easy by giving the economy as an excuse. The media have sucked for a long time. As I said, I’m young, but I get the impression that journalism actually used to mean something. But, people are lazy.

        • http://deleted AnninCa

Well, I was around a lot of young journalism majors for years. They really are passionate. Today, they are’t so passionate about objectivity, true.

But journalism has always been in and out of yellow journalism. The myth of Billy the Kid is a great example.

We did have a heyday of objective journalism, but it got pushed aside as being boring.

          People love drama.

Bleeding, I love REAL progressives. These obama hacks are imposters. Real progressives aren’t misogynists and sexist pigs. Thank you for being here.

Don’t you just love that bunk about how Obama supporters are educated and the rest of us are all picking beans? I laugh every time I see it, since it’s raw BS.

      • Bleeding Heart

Yeah, I don’t get how the guy who wants to cave in to all the Republicans is the poster boy for so many liberals. I guess after 8 years of darkness, people just want to feel good. What makes me feel good is Hillary crushing the “vast right-wing conspiracy.” You make a good point about sexism — this race proves that some amount of sexism is ok in most people’s eyes, but racism isn’t. As a white male, I suppose I don’t really have a dog in the racism vs. sexism fight. But, those Hillary nutcrackers make sick. People think they’re so funny, but an Obama lawn jockey would be (rightly) criticized beyond belief. Now excuse me, I’m going to spend the next 20 minutes tying my shoes (knots is hard!).

  • AC-n-NC

I honestly think the DNC wants to lose. I am planing to change party affiliation on June 2nd if they try to restrict the votes of MI and FL. The voters did nothing wrong. I am already pissed at B Hussein Obama and his cult for trying to suppress the turnout by pretending it is over and hoping Hillary supporters stay home. They better think again. Hillary or bust baby.

If you are curious about who is on the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee that will be deciding on Florida and Michigan, here’s the list with their affiliations. (Don’t laugh, it lists Donna Brazile as “uncommitted”)

The tally: Hillary has 13 supporters, Obama 8 and 7, in addition to the 2 co-chairs have not yet endorsed. The member from Florida is an Obama supporter. One of the co-chairs, Alexis Herman, was one of Bill Clinton’s cabinet members.

    Co-Chairs – no endorsement
    Alexis Herman (co-chair, Washington , D.C. )
James Roosevelt, Jr. (co-chair, Massachusetts )

    Members – Clinton supporters (13)

    Hartina Flournay (DC)
    Donald Fowler (SC)
    Harold Ickes, Jr. (DC)
    Alice Huffman (CA)
    Ben Johnson (DC)
    Elaine Kamarck (MA)
    Eric Kleinfeld (DC)
    Mona Pasquil (CA)
    Mame Reiley (VA)
    Garry Shay (CA)
    Elizabeth Smith (DC)
    Michael Steed (MD)
    Jaime Gonzalez, Jr. (TX)

Members – Obama supporters (8) [More...]

    Martha Fuller Clark (NH)
    Carol Khare Fowler (SC)
    Janice Griffin (MD)
    Thomas Hynes (IL)
    Allan Katz (FL)
    Sharon Stroschein (SD)
    Sarah Swisher (IA)
    Everett Ward (NC)

Members – no known endorsement (7)

    Donna Brazille (DC)
    Mark Brewer (MI)
    Ralph Dawson (NY)
    Yvonne Gates ( NV)
Alice Germond (DC) – DNC Secretary
    David McDonald (WA)
    Jerome Wiley Segovia (VA)

One to keep your eye on: New York lawyer Ralph Dawson. It was his idea to strip the states of their delegates. He contributed $1,000 to Obama. He says he’s also given to Hillary. Can he really be uncommitted at this juncture? Maybe… he says his primary goal is nominating the one that is more electable in November, rather than his personal preference.

Another “uncommitted” , David T. McDonald of Washington has already nixed Hillary’s idea publicly:

McDonald said he wouldn’t respond well if Clinton wanted to seat delegates based on the contests that already took place in the two states.

“If she makes the motion to allocate ‘beauty contest’ delegates, she will not get support from me,” he said. “If she gives [the states] a chance to comply with rules, I will consider it, but they were given 30 days to comply already.”

Here’s an oddity: Jerome Wiley-Segovia. Although from Virginia, he was appointed by Dean to represent the Latino vote. He thinks Obama has a better chance of winning but praises Hillary’s campaign for its “competency.”

Homework for the willing googler: Are any of those supporting Hillary on record as being in favor of counting MI and FL as is?

    • http://hyper-educated-uppity-woman.blogspot.com Uppity Woman

The bylaws committee is not the problem. It’s the next step to Credentials committee that’s the problem. They are stacked with Dean’s arbitrary “appointees” One of them is in college for chrissakes.
