A Lack of Taste (Typical of Obama’s Followers?)

When I told my 86 year year old mother that Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky is calling for Obama signs and supporters to fill the crowds at the Park Ridge Memorial Day Parade on Monday May 26th, she was appalled.

“No,” she said. “Surely, not in Hillary’s hometown?”

“Yes, ” I told her. “It is in the worse possible taste.”

And my mother, who is known for telling it like it is said, “Not only is that in the worse possible taste, it is just plain mean.”

Mean, it is.

But then I have hardly experienced civility from many Obama supporters during this election. I was spit on in the course of my volunteer work in Portland, have been accused of being racist from long time friends because i support Hillary and am now getting anonymous hate mail about Hillary at my home address.

So much for a politics of transformation.

This Memorial Day, as we remember the many people who gave their lives for democracy, I renew my commitment to Hillary Clinton, who has given most of her life to public service, who truly believes in democracy and understands that democracy is not just a matter of rhetoric and fanciful thinking. It depends upon critical thinking, commitment to the needs of all Americans, an ability to ask hard questions and the willingness to do the work.

There is a wonderful group of Hillary supporters who are planning to spend their Memorial Day in Park Ridge. I am grateful that they will be raining a little Hillary sense on Jan Schakowsky’s tasteless and mean-spirited Obama parade.

  • Shainzona

I wish I could be there with you! Thanks for supporting Hillary…for all of us.

    • Meg

I and some of my friends will be at the parade to support Hillary!! We love her and hope she continues to feel our love and support!

EXCELLENT JOAN OF ART…love the moniker….happy memorial day to all…

  • tennessee

I think that for some folks this is their first attempt to be involved in the political process and they haven’t had the experience of losing to keep coming back another day. I wonder how many will just really drop out for good, like in the 70s.

  • blobert

There is a socially maladjusted personality that is attracted to the kind of elitist campaign that Obama is running. Sanctimony and sadism are key traits.

    • bert

That’s a nice term for what I call fascist personality.

  • http://deleted AnninCa

Hard to believe the level to which some people are willing to stoop.

But I’m pretty much done with warning Obama folks. It didn’t do one bit of good.

This last over-the-top reaction toward Hillary shows why she never bothered to speak up about the disrespectful way she was treated. Why waste her breath? They just all jumped right back on the same hate-filled rhetorical bandwagon, including Obama, who now is accusing HER of stirring up the FL/MI problem. That’s rich. He hasn’t taken any accountability or even had a real discussion beyond the most superficial level about this issue.

I watched as newscasters actually had the audacity to talk about people in PA, WVA, OHIO, KY as though they were all uneducated racists and wondered why in the world their bosses didn’t come down and immediately fire them or get them off the TV. They wonder why he’s tanking worse in NC even after he won?

And the networks will wonder where all their viewers went.

The sheer stupidity makes me fear for our country. We can’t begin to compete globally with this kind of short-sighted thinking going on.

    • bert

“watched as newscasters actually had the audacity to talk about people in PA, WVA, OHIO, KY as though they were all uneducated racists….”

And what gets me is that these people are American citizens, too, who just want to live their lives and be good Americans and live the American dream. If this what Obama and his followers think about these Americans what will they DO for them if he were ever, God forbid, become President? And they make it no secret, they don’t even want, or feel they need, their voye. There is a new coalition. Yeah, sure.

Don’t forget his charming comment about Iowa:

“They’re much less ‘ingrown’ and more educated than I expected.”

Iowa??? Where has he been all these years?

  • victim.of.violence.of.obama.supporters

I also notice many Obama supporters are very violent. I hope the savages do not ravage the good people of Park Ridge, Illinois.

They only ravage people at caucuses.

Mike Allen over at Politico blames Drudge for fanning the Bobby Kennedy issue:

As the New York senator was delivering her stump speech in the grocery store, reporters began receiving messages on their BlackBerrys from editors wondering about a New York Post story posted prominently on the Drudge Report that referenced the senator’s mention of the assassination.

    Obama is toast.

Let him steal the nomination with threats of riots and racism.

The DNC may be dumb enough to let that happen but the GOP will stomp his ass.

You can steal the Nomination Obamboozlama but you wont steal the November Election…Not This Time.

screw obama…..i am getting so sick of him and all his supporters tactics and bullshit. it just goes on and on endessly. everyday its hillary said this and its wrong. then its obama has more supers and the endless poll numbers for obama. the media, the press, the pundits going on and on……..everybody knows what is going to happen to obama in the general election, but they continue to try and push hillary out. what ignorance we see. hillary stays in this thing because she knows obama cant win, and that is a fact that goes unmentioned by all. i hate this election and all that it stands for.

Joan, thank you SO much for allowing us to print your fine words on this blog. We are indebted to you for writing to us … and we have more similarly fine essays written by you that we look forward to posting!

WELCOME to the writing side of No Quarter!

    ::::::::::::::::::

P.S. We encourage readers to submit their writings for consideration and publication here — the more voices, the better! We cannot guarantee we will use what you write, but please do not be shy about sending us your work.

OF NOTE: It is critical that you submit your piece in plain text format — use TextPad or TextEdit, and attach it to your e-mail to susanunpc at gmail dot com …

You also need to use the basic HTML for embedded hyperlinks and bold, etc. emphases. I will be happy to give you the formats for those HTML codes — they are SO easy to learn!

ALSO: On my wish list for our new WordPress expert who we’ve hired: A way to allow all of you to publish diaries, as one can do at the orange place or our former friends at MyDD.com, which has allowed itself to be overtaken by Obamabots — but for the writings of Jerome Armstrong, and recommending my friends’ diaries, I would never go there anymore

      • Dakinikat

thank you thank you, I’ve had it with the Daily Kampf, and HuffPoop

Add a balance loader, too. If you’re planning to add more database intensive options, No Quarter will be needing it. Otherwise, it’ll be crawl city, worse than now.

–> NEVER ADD MORE DATABASE OPTIONS UNTIL RESOURCE/TRAFFIC CONGESTION IS RESOLVED!! <–

Important to remember this too: blogs are ad hoc net code. They aren’t optimized as finely as the top 2 forums (vBulletin and IPB), so they’re won’t operate with the best load performance.

If someone has to wait 15 seconds for a site to load (or get gateway errors), No Quarter will lose traffic — 15 seconds of page load problems is the cut off before losing viewership; even less for those with high bandwidth broadband.

Ideal server setup for a higher hit site (using LAMP) is a fat database server and 2 frontends managed by a balance loader. On the cheap a database server and one frontend and fitted to share internal bandwidth, but it’s important that the database is on it’s own server, as it demands the most resources. A Pentium 3 server can be even used as a frontend, if money is an issue (2 servers and load balancer, can be had for less than $400/mon).

Can’t stress this enough, because even with broadband and >30ms pings to the site, load times are dismal and with too many “hangs”. Image the fate of those without such good connections.

I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH NO QUARTER SERVER..

Chris offers sound advice, however I’m not experiencing issues with siteload myself — maybe this is something to consider for the future when NoQuarter grows and grows…

Judging from your SiteMeter I don’t think your load is that great IMO.

  • typicalwhiteperson

Obama supporters are the most arrogant assholes ever. Worse, much worse than anything from the right wing. They’re despicable brainless cowards on the net and in real life (when they get off the computer)

  • missE

    Joan,

If long time friends are accusing you of racism they are really not friends. I am sorry you are going through that.

I live in New Orleans. I am white. I have no problem with black authority. The positions of mayor, city council, police chief, sheriff, school board have all been predominately black since I moved here in 1991.

My own neighborhood is just about an even split of blacks and whites with some Latinos arriving after Katrina. My black neighbors do not accuse me of being racist because I support Hillary.

Many people do not play the race card because it is not in their deck.

Apparently the Obama campaign has quite a few if anybody needs one.

    • Dakinikat

I also live in the ninth ward of New Orleans. I teach at a primarily black school. No one I know down here in my neighborhood thinks my support of Hillary Clinton makes me a racist either. Hillary was down here with our Senator many times after Katrina. She went back to Washington DC and worked hard for wetlands restoration and levee protection for his. She came down here for Tavis Smiley’s State of the Black Union and was the only candidate to do so…

Barack Obama came down here once to give a speech to the graduating class at a small black college and later on a primary day to give yet another speech at another small elite college. I teach at the university here that graduates the most black students in the state of Louisiana. I also teach at the public university where most poor folks go, because if they do well in high school, they can come here free. He’s never been on my campus. We were the first university in the state, chartered in 1959, as integrated. Yes, even during the Jim Crow law time.

Bill Clinton and Bush 41 came down right after Katrina with a huge check and visited our campuses. Edwards and the Carters work all the time down here with Habitat for Humanity.

Let me tell, you, Obama has only been down here to give a couple of speeches at very small elite universities.

That should be very telling. Who in this picture really cares about the disenfranchised? The race card was played in South Carolina by the Obama campaign and every one knows it down here in the ninth ward.

    • http://lkcampbell.blogspot.com Lucinda

I think that the race-baiting is coming out of his campaign offices but doesn’t necessarily transmit out to all of his supporters. My next door neighbors are black as are the people who live on the street directly behind us. Before we had our primary election, I put out my Hillary yard sign, and they put out their Obama sign. We still spoke to one another and were just as friendly toward each other as we have been since my husband and I bought this house. I think they’re good neighbors, and I hope they feel the same about us regardless of our political differences.
In the South, it has taken us a long time to get to the point where blacks and whites can live in the same neighborhoods and feel good about it. I hate the fact that Obama and his campaign are willing to tear down what we’ve accomplished in order to win this election. And the sad thing, which I believe with all my heart, is that he will cast aside the black community once they’ve served his purpose.

      • salliort

I am white. A couple of Obama’s people–both black–were campaigning outside the pharmacy I go to and asked me who I planned to vote for.

When I replied that I was voting for Hillary Clinton and would not vote for Obama, because I did not like the fact that he owes the Chicago Political Machine so much in favors to be repaid and financially, one of them accused me of being a racist.

I said, “How interesting that you would say that. I voted for Jesse Jackson. Does he look white to you?”

        • Lou

This isn’t the racist thing Obama campaign makes it out to be. It’s mostly whites spewing racist propaganda and Obama Campaign threatening those who don’t vote for him.

  • Catharine

The Obama campaign is doing an excellent job. First they totally convinced me that I will NEVER vote for Obama under ANY circumstances. As time goes on they manage to fire me up so much that I work as hard as I can convincing others NEVER to vote for Obama under Any circumstance. The Obama campaign is making that job easier and easier by the day! Thank you Obama and company!

  • hillarysmygirl

There seems to be two types of Obama supporters:

Type One: those filled with self-hatred, who at their core are mean and self-centered (see Olberman, Matthews, Alter, etc.)

Type Two: those who are naive or easily swayed (certain college students, certain liberals, etc.). I write “certain,” because there are many smart college students and many liberals (myself included) who voted for Hillary.

The first type are the ones who’ve dug in their heels, happy to jump on any bandwagon (“What about Hillary’s [fill in the blank] gaffe?”), slurping up the bile on MSNBC, wiping off Keith Obamaman’s spittle from their television sets.

The second type are more thoughtful, and starting to wonder if they’ve made a mistake. They are happy to vote for Hillary if she’s the nominee and agree that the media is being biased.

The first type include members of my family, with whom I can’t seem to have a civil conversation. But then, they’re looking for a fight with any conversation.

The second type include some very sweet, bright friends of ours. We don’t discuss politics, but they do want a Democrat in office.

Unfortunately, we only hear from Type One here on NoQuarter. And Type One seems to be the majority of them. My feeling is that they are like McGovern’s followers, active in the primaries, not so much in the General election. Which is why we, as the quiet, solid base of the Democrats need to stick by Hillary as she makes her way to the convention. Because I truly feel that as long as she makes it to the convention floor, even if we have to have a brokered convention, she’ll be our nominee. I’m actually excited to see our democracy in action!

    Happy Memorial Day everybody!

    • http://www.arguewitheveryone.com ChrisXP

My feeling is that they are like McGovern’s followers, active in the primaries, not so much in the General election.

Even so, the GE is run much differently than primaries, since then the two parties clash for the big prize. That’s when voters put down the tabloids, and start making WISER decisions on who’s the best for country, not just party (as now it can actually harm them personally — like in the wallet and with their lives).

Kids are eating this stuff up now, but come November, grownups start showing up for the real campaigning.

    • Lou

There is something brewing about the Texas delegates in Hillary’s favor. Hang in there gang.
      This is very pleasant news.

      • http://www.share-international.org drquack

Pray tell. Would a nice letter to them be of help? My precinct in Dallas was a rip off.

  • TeakWoodKite

    via CNN home page.

Obama said he wants a resolution of the controversy over the seating of the Florida and Michigan delegations so that they “feel that they’ve been treated fairly and they’re seated.”

“I want to be looking at them when I’m standing on the stage in Denver in August,” Obama said.

He said the “anger will go away once it’s resolved” and it will not be a deciding factor in the November general election.

    .

Obama is under the illusion that “the anger will go away”…big mistake. It is not the Clinton campaign that is “stirring” up Michigan and Florida voters. Get a clue BO.

    • so saddened

he forgot to say he wants to be looking DOWN at them.

he wants them to “feel” fairly treated? how ’bout treating them fairly, obaby? then they’ll “feel” that way.

of course, even if they count all of the votes now, the harm is done – the bell can’t be unrung. his victories after florida would mostly not have happened if florida had been considered normally all along. and the it’s over meme wouldn’t have been put over hillary’s head all this time, etc. instead, she would’ve clinched the nomination long ago.

obaby knows that. he just figures if he counts fl and mi votes, ONLY to the extent that it won’t hurt him now, the good people of fl and mi will look up at his big grin and see the messiah like all the obamaloons do.

      asshole!

hillary or mccain. no other option.

      • TeakWoodKite

Isn’t that so “him” don’t beat anything if you might loose.

And soon to be ahead in delegates at the convention.

      keep on keeping on.

  • http://www.bartcop.com/141-bombshell-sample.m3u Dave

Sorry, that’s a list of super delegates.

Listen to this audio if you want to be outraged about caucuses and delegates.

I thought everyone already knew this. The comparison was done when New Hampshire voted. New Hampshire: Hillary got 22 delegates for 300k votes.
Obama got 18 delegates in Idaho for 13k votes.

People are so busy complaining and doing nail biting that they are not paying attention.

There is no one paying attention the the vote count or the math.

I too am in Oregon. It’s like a cult. and for me, sitting in a group of supposedly enlightening liberals, the misogyny was outright scary. Almost all do not know his real positions, the money behind him and more frightening, they cannot see this massive media manipulation, which I saw and was completely turned off by it. I wasn’t working for any campaign, but over time, the Obama campaign made the hair on my neck stand on end. I find what is going on with these people as bad, if not worse than the Bush era and what’s going on also reminds me of the 1920′s in Europe, especially the media manipulation.

    • Lou

It’s scary even going to the grocery store in Portland with Hillary gear on.

No surpirse that you got spit on. So much for Obama uniting everyone.

The independents and their drug induced minds have taken over the cities.

  • kat in your hat

“Mean” is actually the perfect word to describe Obama, his camp and his supporters.

    Yes, MEAN.

  • kat in your hat

Oh, and his downright MEAN wife and Pastor, and on and on.

    MEAN!!

  • kat in your hat

Wow, read today’s Jake Tapper article on Obama:

What the FARC was Obama talking about?

(Obama is a one man gaffe machine.)

that self hating toad Jan Schakowsky is hoping Obama will cheat his way into the White House so she can get his senate seat…keep hoping you fucking piece of shit!

    • Lou

Seems everyone has their own brand of self serving motives in this election. What happened to being for the common good of the country?

Obama supporters scare me. They are motivated by emotion and impulse, not by thought.

The smear campaign against Hillary is being orchestrated at the highest level of the Obama cult:

    http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/ 05/25/clinton-defends-rfk-remarks/

George Stephanopoulos, the host of ABC’s “This Week,” asked David Axelrod, Mr. Obama’s top strategist, about the e-mail:

Mr. Stephanopoulos: You say you’re not trying to stir the issue up. But a member of your press staff yesterday was sending around to an entire press list — I have the e-mail here — Keith Olbermann’s searing commentary against Hillary Clinton. So that is stirring this up, isn’t it?”

Mr. Axelrod: “Well, Mr. Olbermann did his commentary and he had his opinion. But as far as we’re concerned.”

Mr. Stephanopoulos: “But your campaign was sending it around.”

Mr. Axelrod: “As far as we’re concerned, George, as far as we’re concerned, this issue is done. It was an unfortunate statement, as we said, as she’s acknowledged. She has apologized. The apology, you know, is accepted. Let’s move forward.”

Mr. Axelrod: “There’s so many important things going on in this country right now, George, that people are interested in that we’re not going to spend days dwelling on this.”

    commentary at mdd:

Barack “Both Ways” Obama Wins Again!
    by Jacob Freeze

As a media gamesman, Barack Obama is obviously good enough for the imbecile media that he plays, and he gets to play it both ways on almost every issue.

As soon as Hillary Clinton’s remark about Bobby Kennedy hit the internet, Obama’s spokesman was pushing the campaign’s “shocked” and inflammatory reaction:

Senator Clinton’s statement before the Argus Leader editorial board was unfortunate and has no place in this campaign,” said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

Why was this remark so “unfortunate,” except for the spin it acquired in the imbecile media? Does anyone seriously believe that Hillary Clinton was calling for the assassination of Barack Obama? Does anyone seriously believe that Hillary Clinton only continues to campaign because she thinks Obama will be assassinated?

The Obama campaign couldn’t sell either of those absurd scenarios, so Obama sent out his spokesman to hint darkly about something, anything that would promote the buzz on Drudge and MSNBC, and then…

After Obama had thrown all the gasoline he could throw on this ridiculous little fire, and it was becoming obvious that there was nothing to it, and after all the damage had been done to Hillary Clinton that this nonsense could possibly do…

Obama jumped on the last ripple of the wave of publicity with a “gracious” concession:

“Sen. Clinton says that she did not intend any offense by it, and I will take her at her word on that.”

So why didn’t you say the same thing at the beginning of the day, you manipulative, hypocritical invention of the imbecile media, Barack “Both Ways” Obama?

Barack Obama let his spokeman fan the flames around this non-story until it was ready to die, and then played “gracious” for the cameras because it’s automatic for Barack Obama to play everything both ways, just like he played Jeremiah Wright both ways, and NAFTA, and gun control, and everything else in the fictional life-story that he invented to dazzle the imbecile media.

  • Catime

Just wondering, but does anyone have a picture of the house where Hillary grew up in Park Ridge?

I keep hearing about her “affluent upbringing,” but her neighborhood in Park Ridge was pretty modest, wasn’t it?
