On June 24, Iranian Superstar Andy Madadian went into an LA recording studio with Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora and American record producers Don Was and John Shanks to record a musical message of worldwide solidarity with the people of Iran. This version of the old Ben E. King classic is not for sale – it was not meant to be on the Billboard charts or even manufactured as a CD…..it’s intended to be downloaded and shared by the Iranian people…to give voice to the sentiment that all people of the world stand together….the handwritten Farsi sign in the video translates to “we are one”. The thugs are winning, unfortunately, in Iran but this is a good gesture.

    Thank you Larry. Everything going on there rips my heart out. I hate feeling helpless to help. I wish there were more we could do to show our support. I would not make a very good agent or politician. I could not sit back and watch anyone being mistreated.

    That video sums up my feelings and I hope the majority of American’s. My hope is that when our time of need comes we will have others to stand by us. And come it will.
    The WH already has made an agreement with Canada.for their military to come in and quell any coming “food riots” Has anyone read the wording on that agreement?

    These countries are rejecting Acorn, Saul Alinsky and Bill Ayers form of power, when will it become Americas turn to finally stand up, after it is completely destroyed?

    Today everything Obama, Pelosi and the other screwballs in Washington have done can be undone with no major harm to the country, a year from now, it will be too late!

    “Amnesty International is gravely concerned that several opposition leaders detained in the wake of the 12 June elections may be facing torture, possibly to force them to make televised “confessions” as a prelude to unfair trials in which they could face the death penalty.

    “If our fears are born out, this would be an appalling tactic on the part of the security services to silence high profile political leaders once and for all, and to send a clear message to others with dissenting views that they should expect dreadful consequences if they speak out,” said Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa Programme.

    Senior political leaders Mohsen Aminzadeh, Abdollah Ramazanadeh and Mostafa Tajzadeh were taken away from their homes in the early hours of 16 June, coinciding with the arrests of many other opposition leaders and supporters. According to reports received by Amnesty International, all three are believed to be held in Section 209 in Evin Prison in Tehran which falls under the control of the Ministry of Intelligence, and where reports of torture of detainees are frequent. It is not clear whether they have been allowed to contact their families. In ‘security’ related cases, detainees are routinely denied access to a lawyer during the interrogation period which can be prolonged indefinitely.

    On Friday 26 June, cleric Ahmad Khatami, who is a member of the Assembly of Experts, in a sermon at Friday prayers at Tehran University, called on the judiciary to punish, “severely and without mercy”, those involved in the demonstrations. He said that “agitations, destructive acts, setting fire to mosques and buses, destroying people’s property, creating insecurity and terror, and harassing people” could be considered to be instances of moharebeh or enmity against God, a charge which can carry the death penalty.

    On 16 June, following the arrest of Mohsen Aminzadeh, Abdollah Ramazanadeh and Mostafa Tajzadeh and other leading opposition figures, Intelligence Minister Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejeie reportedly told the Fars news agency that 26 “masterminds” suspected to be involved in post-election unrest had been arrested. It is not known whether Mohsen Aminzadeh, Abdollah Ramazanadeh and Mostafa Tajzadeh are among the 26 referred to.

    “Such statements, including by those in influential clerical positions, add to the already worrying signs that the authorities in Iran are preparing to eradicate any form of peaceful political opposition, including by trying these political leaders on trumped-up and vaguely worded charges,” said Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui.

    “We call on the Supreme Leader to give clear instructions to all government and judicial officials not to torture people within their custody, and urge him and the security services to guarantee the safety of every detainee, including by clarifying their whereabouts, allowing immediate access to families and lawyers and any medical care that may be needed.”

    Amnesty International considers the three leaders to be prisoners of conscience who should be immediately and unconditionally released.

    At the very least, those arrested must be promptly informed of any charges and brought before a judge to assess the legality and necessity of their detention.”

    Also, Amnesty International is pleading the case for dozens of detained journalists.

    “The Iranian authorities must immediately release dozens of journalists arrested since 12 June and who are at risk of torture in detention, Amnesty International said today as it adopted all of them as prisoners of conscience.

    “It is shocking that journalists – whose job it is to provide information to others – are being detained, on top of all the other draconian measures the authorities have taken to restrict the free flow of information about what is really happening in Iran. Rather than trying to investigate alleged abuses, the only message the authorities are sending is that they are seeking to hide the truth, both from their own citizens and the rest of the world.”

    Progress on 2 fronts.Neda now has white highlighter at her inner eyes on a NYT foto .This is a professional makeup trick to stop the eyes looking too close together- cannot have that on an icon of freedom. By fotoshop it shows they moved the eyes & cant quite get them looking natural spacing so do the white light that avoids a definite start point.

    Furthermore the chances of a military strike at Iran has diminished to nil.Yay because the collateral damage (Iranians) is now unacceptable because we now LOVE them.Even the Israelis can’t bomb them !

    Neda’s headscarf is becoming the eqivalent of a miniskirt. Soon it will be a gypsie style then a hippie scarf then a bandanna then a princess band.

    Iranians are now Pet People. Iran lives!

      Interestingly at wiki, the photo of Neda with her headscarf on has been suggested for deletion, leaving only the one photo of her with no headscarf. We can’t have an icon no matter how pretty who’s actually a muslim, can we?
