Joe Tells It Like It Is

I’ve often been criticized by my lefty friends for having a soft head when it comes to sticking up for people whose political views I find silly but whom I’m fond of personally. Here’s a case of someone I’ve liked since his days as a Congressman (one who reminded me of Jeff Spicoli with brains). We’ve had some laughs and we’ve had knock down drag outs (he was a big supporter of impeachment. I disagreed). But I get a kick out of the guy. Surprised? Give this a listen:

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that John McCain and Barack Obama are tied again at 45%.

McCain is viewed favorably by 50% of voters nationwide and unfavorably by 46%.

Obama’s numbers are 48% favorable and 49% unfavorable

      Clinton Maintains Lead Over McCain

Despite the fact that Obama is considered to be the highly probable Democratic nominee, Gallup Poll Daily tracking continues to show that, at the moment,Clinton is performing better against presumptive Republican nominee John McCain than is Obama.

Clinton’s five percentage point lead over McCain is statistically significant, and considerably stronger than Obama’s 2-point loss to McCain among registered voters nationwide.

    • Nathan

Ooh! Rasmussen! Ever-so accurate, especially with Clinton out of the picture (Remember, we’re supposed to elect the strongest GE candidate).

And this is before the GOP and media start its hit job on Obama.

I sincerely hope that Joe’s wife is and their (unborn?) baby are doing ok. But MAN, I wish he would return to Morning Joe!

The same thing he did to his grandmother and his spiritual adviser, let’s throw him out under the bus.

    posted on wrong post sorry

I started emailing Morning Joe (back when I use to watch MSNBC Obama Network) about 8 months ago. I asked why Mika Brzezenski was drooling all over Obama. I found out when I saw her bring her father Zib (works for Obama as does her brother) and he was making me sick with his lovefest with anything Obama.

Mika is one of the worst along with Chris Matthews, Keith, David and most of the media oh, not to forget Roland Martin at CNN he makes me gag. She is not as hot as she thinks she is and has gone out of her way to push Obama down the throats of the democratic party. She always like to say she is not in the tank for Obama but it is so clear she would live to jump his skinny bones. Of course, Michelle Marxist would have a thing to say about a whitey woman getting her man.

I am totally shocked that she is not called out just like the boys for their treatment of Hillary.

I have stopped watching Obama channel a long time ago and except for Joe the whole lot of them are so “in the tank for Obama” I cannot wait til they cover the election and he loses in a landslide and then they go back to their prison stories and pedophile programming and find that their ratings are “in the tank”. Do they really think the Obamanots are going to continue to watch their sorry network after the election. They will be back to their online games and ipods.

NO OBAMA NO WAY NOW HOW

    HILLARY OR MCCAIN 2008

    • Elizabeth Reilly

How right you are about her! She used to speak her own mind when she first came on the show and I respected her for that. Lately, she’s like the music director on David Letterman (Paul, something), who is like an irritating yes man who jumps in with approving comments on just about everything Letterman says. She keeps a steady stream of interruptions going and seems really to have lost her way. She wants so much to just come out and blast Hillary, but lacks the courage to do it and instead, skates around the edges. Sad and cowardly.

    • mimi65

I have to agree with you, I also stopped watching
Mika reminds me of the mean girls on the playground
didn’t like them when I was in school and like them even less now

  • It’s Not Me

A friend of mine would call me every morning and tell me to turn on Morning Joe because he was defending Hillary. I kept telling her “NO, I will NEVER watch Joe Scarborough’s show because he’s a RW shill.” She kept insisting and pushing me until one day I finally gave in and was pleasantly surprised by what I heard. Joe has changed.

Now, Mika, on the other hand, is big time Obamarhoid. She always tried to hide it and played “neutral” (badly, I might add…I could tell she was a part of the cult), but she has gone over the edge now. She is and has been in the BO camp from day one. I detest her. I haven’t been watching the show since Joe has been off. I cannot take her and the BO love fest so early in the morning.

I send my best wishes to Joe, his wife and their baby…I pray everything ended up well for them.

    Hillary needs her “boyfriend” back…SOON!:)

  • Swift Loris

Boy, those clips of Scarborough are refreshing! I’m an old leftie, but I’ll take him any day over the rest of the crew at MSNBC. Thanks for posting those.

    • Lisa

      Me, too.

BTW, Joe needs to drop that cohost!!!

  • Dawnelle

    Joe is bipolar.
or has a bad case of Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde

I happen to like the half of him that loves HILLARY

but the other half that sits behind GW and cheers at rallies makes me vomit
or has he been “cured” of his “alpha” bet disease called GW?

He is a fellow Floridian so he has some CRED there. Gotta love the panhandler! LOL

  • AC-n-NC

Obama and his cult are gonna set democrats and progress back 20 years. The DNC , which in my eyes, are Howard Dean and Donna “neutral” Barzile, and the MSM, which are part of the cult, and will be fully to blame for this colossal failure. All the great progressive causes and opportunities that will never see fruition. I am not gonna vote for McCain, I am going to vote against Obama. My vote doesn’t matter though because by the time the republicans are through, I doubt if he wins 3 states. I talked to people today that did not know his middle name was Hussein and said flatly that it was a lie. A quick Google, used wikipedia, WOW, then I said look up “Ayers-Obama-flag”.There is the picture of Obama’s’ friend, mentor, boss, contributor standing on the flag. What a hoot, you should have seen the faces, one said ” he’s standing on the flag, that’s un-American”. Then I mentioned how angry M. Obama considering she is a millionaire, graduate of 2 ivy league schools,6 figure income, husband a state senator then US senator but now says she is proud of America for the first time in her adult life. There goes another 4 or so converts, on to work to discuss events, history and our futures. To sum it up, I don’t know how many times the republicans are gonna play these ads but they will play them enough to do the trick. Passing out noquarter.com as an interesting site also.

She was the one on MSNBC who sounded like she was chocking making those funny noises when something is said of Hillary of just 1-word of kinda nice.but that was because they knew msnbc was bisa,so they had to pretent.
Senator Hillary Clinton is the best candidate!

  • Madison

But what joe and pat are saying on this video is true.Hillary is the best candidate.about time they say that

    • workingclass artist

It seems to me that some folks just don’t like the tenor of this campaign.
You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see fascism and it’s corruption and this is upsetting to lots of folks across party lines…I’m glad Pat and Joe et, al…are’nt afraid to speak up about it. It is what it is…Thanks for the post..

Thank you so much for posting these. I hadn’t seen them.

I used to DVR Morning Joe every day, because it airs here from 3am-6am. But then I got sick of Mika and that sidekick twerp Willy mocking Hillary all the time.

Joe has been uneven re Hillary but it seems, more and more lately, that he has been GRIPPED by what a superb candidate she has become and how EMINENTLY qualified she is.

Pat Buchanan is another favorite of mine — and has been for 20+ years — even when I’ve disagreed with his views. He strikes me, always, as a straight shooter. That he REALLY MEANS what he says. And he has a heart, and a great sense of humor — and the BEST LAUGH on television. He always makes me laugh along with him. I bet he’s a sweet guy in real life — just a hunch.

Mika I instinctively do not trust. Besides her father’s involvement in BO’s campaign, she strikes me as always insincere.

One more thing about Joe Scarborough: He seems to have TERRIFIC POLITICAL INSTINCTS. Sometimes I wish he’d be on board the Clinton campaign to advise them …. his ideas and criticisms are that good.

Maybe I’ll start DVRing M. Joe again.

My first job in television was interning on Crossfire from 1992 – 1993. I was there when Pat returned to his co-host chair following his bid for the presidency. I was scared to death at the thought of meeting him – what with that scary GOP convention speech he gave in Houston in 1992 – but he was a sweet, funny, gentlemanly guy with a great wit who treated everyone around him with respect. Politically he’s as crazy as a bedbug but personally he’s just wonderful. Again, a view I get a ton of grief for, but it’s the truth.

DCMediaGirl, many of us know what it’s like to be criticized by our lefty pals for liking what certain conservatives and/or Republicans say, but dammit — if they’re telling what we need to hear, it’s worth listening.

The weird part about their criticisms is that it’s like they fear we’ll somehow be brainwashed by the rightwing. That we haven’t the judgment to listen to ALL sides, and learn from them.

One of our writers called me yesterday. She regularly debates with a good friend who’s for Obama. She said that their debates serve to STIMULATE her thinking, and to sharpen her abilities to argue on Hillary’s behalf.

(Which – digression here – is one reason I don’t think we should ever ban Obama supporters here, unless they are cruel or threatening Their statements serve to make US think about why we support Hillary, and force us to work up arguments to defend her.)

It reminds me of a Ben Stiller line in Zero Effect.

It’s not good guys and bad guys – it’s just a bunch of guys!

      ;)

  • NoBama

    Hillary knows her onions-Pat Buchanan.

    I loved that quote.

    • http://akpmedia.com David Axisrutt

I believe ‘onions’ in this context is a Gallic thing? As in ‘that’s your onions’ or ‘that’s not your onions’. Meaning ‘that’s your business’ or ‘not your business’.

  • fran

Watching those clips of the interview (I saw it originally) reminds me of the thought I always have: What the hell are other people looking at? Like Joe, it is SO OBVIOUS that she is the superior candidate. Mike makes a lame attempt about BO’s “halting style.” Yea, that’s called stalling, because he doesn’t know the answer. This whole primary is so damn sad.

  • Charles Lemos

I’ve been staying up until 4AM (I live in Calfornia)just to listen what Joe Scarborough has to say. Thankfully he has been on vacation the last two weeks. He gets it.

  • stodghie

that mika is just plain irritating. she reminds of the wife at a dinner party who never lets her husband get a word in. she is so busy interrupting with what she consideres her more worthwhile thoughts. (of course that goes both ways, but it is what i think of when i see her)

    • http://akpmedia.com David Axisrutt

Well DUH – you KNOW who her father is, right? DUH! ;)

  • http://akpmedia.com David Axisrutt

Wow. Just watched the 2nd Joe clip. Finally. Finally somebody with cool and brains comes out and tells it like it is. Finally!

  • DancingOpossum

I’m not surprised. I’ve liked Joe Scar since I started watching him by accident on weekday mornings…He was excellent during Katrina and has been as tough on lousy Repugs as he is on Democrats. Plus he’s smart and funny. And he luuuvs HRC. :)

  • Karma

    DCMediaGirl,

I’ve been fond of Joe for a while now also. The worst thing to happen to Joe is that Imus thing. It is a shame he doesn’t have a whole hour during the evening (without Mika) to make these objective points.

He calls it like it is. Despite that…even the ‘fair’ Bill Maher really gives it to him when Joe appears on HBO. Joe will be making a point and Bill Maher practically ridicules him, even if Maher has made the same point himself. They are only seeing the guy who supported Bush, and not listening to what he is saying. And not the reality of Joe, being one of the first Republican talking heads who did speak out against Bush regularly.

Pat Buchanan is also someone who I will stop the remote for. Even when I couldn’t stand what he said in past decades for the Republican machine, he made excellent points. Now that he is more of a talking head, I agree with him more and more, and that was long before this election. He has made excellent points in regards to the Bush Admin for quite sometime. He can quite easily discuss the Repubican or Democratic talking points and go back to an objective political analyst, in the same thought. Not many of these talking heads can deliver such a range or with the same integrity.

Could you imagine Obama and Buchanan in a debate? If he thought Hillary was hard…Buchanan would steamroll him.
