most of the people I know who support Obama do so because they really think he can move people — and he does. He’s not been packing the stadiums with thousands and thousands of people because he’s a dud.

The other thing he does, very well, is convince people of his sincerity — and I think that’s what sunk Hillary and will sink McCain. Not necessarily that any of these candidates is any more sincere deep down than another, but it’s like the longer you talk, over the years, the less able you are to speak from the gut, and the more you have to clear it with your head. I would like to find a way to bring more people into it, via the Internet aspect. Very few people actually know these strong pro-Hillary anti-Obama blogs exist. They must feel even more powerless than we do. It would be good to spread the word about these blogs to as many people as you can.
I called my local Congressman and told his office about a few of them, so they would know the level of the passion and anger. They don’t hear it on the media and it would be impossible for us to email them often enough for them to understand fully. So inform them of the blogs, let them read to understand.
These blogs are the start of the revolution to defend democracy.

No.. considering the tape is in the hands of various people, seemingly unrelated, it’s not doctored. A doctored tape is easy to spot as it shows up mysteriously to ONE person, and they post it or give it to the media. Like Wright or Pfleger’s sermon tapes, many people have them.

I hope the video is real. I’m skeptical enough that I think Father Fpleger’s sermon last Sunday at Trinity was actually planned ahead of time by Obama and his campaign. Why? Wouldn’t THOSE relationships (and in McCain’s case, sometimes quite intimate) be more relevant to how a president will govern? Rashid Khalidi isn’t a member of the PLO. He is an invaluable, forthright scholar and professor. Have you ever sat in on any of his classes? I am a Jew from NYC who went to the University of Chicago and studied the history of the Middle East with Khalidi. I had tended towards a strong pro-Palestine ideology before that class because I saw Israel as the aggressor in the middle east. It was Khalidi who put the history of the land in perspective and made me realize that I had overshot my bias. First of all, some priests were removed, but only after many, many people complained, and then the priests were moved to other parishes, sometimes several. Settlements were paid, but usually after lawsuits and legal wrangling involving much pain and humiliation for the victims. How many priests can you name that have gone to prison for child rape? One, maybe two? Most of these cases are settled quietly and the priests are protected and “retired”.

I would like you to find one quote of Obama’s where he demonizes whites. Considering his mother is white and he was brought up by her and his white grandparents, I think you are overreacting to the brown pigment in his skin. This is not a normal reaction, but has been known to afflict certain individuals who have not been exposed to many diverse cultures. Catholics believe in Sacraments. Theologically this is what binds the Church and all Catholics. In the Roman Catholic Church Tradition holds equal weight to Scripture in the development of the theology. The oldest written form of the Mass ( except for the Diache ) dates to before 236 AD. The Didache goes back even further to at least the end of the first century.

I think the videos we have seen of Wright and Pfleger at Trinity getting wild approval from the congregation for their hateful words about white Americans do show that, at least at those times, Trinity did cross the line into racist territory. I have 2 suggestions for people as disgusted by the democratic Party as I am should the pre-ordained nomination go to Obama:

1) While it may be too late for Hillary Clinton to run as an Independent in some states, please don’t forget that there are other parties that may already have filed for space on your state’s ticket (ie: Liberal, Working Families, Green, etc.). Find one and figure out what it will take to have Senator Clinton as their nominee, then let everyone in your state know how they can still vote for her in November. They will be thrilled to have wide-spread support and publicity for their party.

2) When voting for down-line candidates, DO NOT ever vote for them as a democrat; select them on any other party line. In most states, the party with the most votes gets placement at the top of the ballot so let’s be sure the the “New” democrats never get that placement again. If you support a state/local candidate, make sure they know you will not vote for them on the dem line so they ask for the support of another legit party and you can vote them in. BTW – this strategy also will work for Republicans who are unhappy with their party’s behavior of late…

Please feel free to share/post these suggestions with anyone and everyone. The America we love is disappearing right before our eyes. This fight is over more than a candidate – it is about our way of life and the Constitutional right to vote. Do not let your voice be silenced!

Question: How many of you are christian and do you have a church home? If so, do you attend church regularly and if so, what is the average number of hours a typical sunday service will last? I am a christian (but im far from perfect), I have a church home and service last on average 2 hrs per service, per Sundays.

Now, If I attend church every Sunday for 20 years, that would be a total of 1040 (20 yrs * 52 weeks) but since I do not attend every sunday…maybe I say on average twice a month, then my total would be 480(20 yrs * 24 weeks). At two hours a vist that would make my total hours…say 960 hours. Since preachers rarely every Sunday, I would hear my preacher’s message say 80% of the time; thats (960*.8) 768 hours of preaching I am exposed to which is 32 total days in 20 years (2.4%) Since a preacher’s message varies…the frequency of hearing the same message for 20 years would be miniscule.

I know you all know where Im going with this. It is a fallacy to protray Barack Obama as sitting in a church for 20 years, every Sunday, listening to the same message. It is a fallacy to assume this church teaches hate/seperation. Yes he was a member of 20 years, yes some contraversial remarks were made in this church by Rev. Wright, but to what frequency? Im sure there is not one church in America that has never had a preacher make any contraversial remarks, but to insist Trinity is a racist-based church is simply ludicrous (If you’re ever in chicago, pay them a visit and see for yourself).

Although Hillary may feel she must do that to unite the party (I don’t fault her for that), it should be remembered that the classless Obama and his wife Michelle made it clear in several interviews that they would have to think about supporting Hillary.

I have to say, I knew about the whole Trinity thing a year ago.. but then, and before then, Obama basically seemed like a relatively decent guy who had come out of nowhere.

I’m not a Democrat by any strech of the imagination – I’m a small-L libertarian. But while I didn’t much care for Obama’s policy choices, it looked like I could respect him as a man and, just maybe, count on him to honestly put his position out there.

Ha, right. His bungling of the Trinity thing was a disappointment; I can understand the initial decision to join them, but his subsequent actions both stabbed them in the back and insulted us. His PA comments (I lived there for years, that state is BLUE) were the final nail in the coffin, painting him as just another arrogant elitist.

I think the reason why Larry is waiting until tomorrow to release the bad news for the Obama campaign is to do so at the start of the news cycle for the week. Quick, name another presidential nominee that had to deal with a major motion picture that was played in movie theaters all over the country during election season that portrayed them as an evil moron? Add to that the fact that A-list celebrities were being interviewed on shows like Entertainment Tonight and giving their thoughts on the movie as they attended the star studded premieres in Hollywood, New York, Cannes, etc.

When John O’Neill, the man behind the swift boat vets, held a press conference prior to the launching of his book “Unfit For Command” and a series of TV ads, none of the major networks bothered to showed up to cover it, let alone Cameron Diaz, Madonna, and Sean Lennon. Why? Because the Kerry campaign wasn’t worried about the swiftboat vets. So his supporters in the media figured “hey, why give these guys any free publicity”.

Imagine if someone made a movie like that about Bill Clinton when he was running for re-election? Liberals would burn down the theaters where it was being shown, and the media would place the blame at the feet of the theater owners for showing the movie. But that was back when the media still loved, or pretended to love, the Clintons. Before George W. Bush destroyed the legacy of the 1960′s counterculture movement by inspiring a revival of World War II style patriotism, which facilitated the need for a “pure as the driven snow” leftist saviour amongst the Democrat party’s activist base.

In the end, the American people obviously found the swiftboat vets to be more credible than Michael Moore.

I’m worried we’re just not getting it.

Obama is being effectively swift boated by the right; people on the left fixated on a Clinton candidacy are joining in because it seems expedient. Witness the marvelous use Sean Hannity was getting out of Geraldine Ferraro on his FOX broadcast this evening.

Once Obama is sunk, they’ll turn their full attentions on a similar destruction of Clinton. They’re well-practiced, after all these years of Clinton bashing. That particular game plan was no doubt in place and ready to roll long before Obama arrived on the scene.

Clinton has already tapped out her campaign funds. She’s going to have to lay claim to the energy and enthusiasm that was behind the Obama campaign, in spite of the perception that she and her supporters helped to do him in. Without that, she’s sunk too.

Get the picture? I’m sure Karl Rove does. That’s why he could barely keep from chortling like a happy little chipmunk the other night.

So, convince me we’re not being skillfully manipulated to keep a republican in the White House. Please. I’m an Obama supporter–having actually listened to what the man has been saying–but I’d vote for Clinton just as quickly. I want to be convinced I’m wrong, and that we’re really not as stupid as I’m beginning to suspect.

I cannot adequately express the pleasure I feel at seeing the Democratic party coming apart at the seams. Not that I am particularly happy that the Republicans will profit from it.

But the Republicans are merely corrupt. The Democrats are not only corrupt; they are insufferable busybodies who just can’t leave people alone to live their lives in peace.

The Democrats are going to win the House & Senate because, well, it actually IS the economy, stupid. And paradoxically, the Bush administration’s success in preventing another 9/11 has had the effect of convincing people that there really is no danger of another 9/11, so the Republican national security card has been devalued.

But at least, at the presidential level, McCain – who is really that almost vanished species, a national defense Democrat – will beat back the Clinton menace and the Obama naivity.

This is being released now so that the Republicans can redefine who Obama is before the real campaign begins. This and the other stuff that’s come out make it inescapably clear who Obama is.
McCain won’t have to say a word about (unless asked). No ads will need to be run and no money spent by the McCain camp trying to redefine Obama. He will not be able to shake the perception a lot of voters will have of him.
And like it or not, the Democrats are stuck with him because by their rules, Hillary doesn’t have the delegates to be the nominee.

Apparently you’ve never given your full attention to a Barack Obama speech. The man is charismatic, highly personable, extraordinarily intelligent, and unusually eloquent. The man is a natural-born communicator and a natural-born unifier. Assuming, of course, that those listening want to hear the message and want to unify to serve a higher purpose and a greater good. Some of us have forgotten or never known what that sort of message sounds like. Maybe some have become too cynical to believe.

Clinton would also be a damn good candidate. She knows the political ropes and knows how to get things done. My only concern about Hillary is that she sometimes seems to be putting her own success ahead of the principles of the party she represents. However, I will give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she truly believes herself to be the stronger choice. Assuming that, I have to admire her for her determination. Hopefully Bill will behave himself. Sometimes there’s a thin line separating a great man from a loose cannon.

Some are threatening to skuttle the boat if they don’t have their way with the choice of the captain. If you feel that way, you’re probably in the wrong boat already. I think one of the saddest facts about what Hillary has done with this campaign is that the whole world has seen a woman candidate in an American election who will lie, cheat and steal in her attempt to gain the nomination.

For the record, sometime in the future there will be Democratic presidential candidate – a woman of strong character and ethics – who will win because she deserves the nomination. Hillary fought hard and had my undying respect for most of this Primary season. But her actions in recent weeks have shown her true character and I no longer trust this person could be effective a world leader.

For those who say they’ll vote Republican: Be prepared to lose Pro-Choice and other hard-fought battles for women’s rights. Between 2 and 6 Supreme Court Justices will be appointed in the coming Presidential term. If McCain appoints them, we as women will take a giant leap backward.

Of course, if you don’t care about anyone but yourself or if your real agenda is to destroy our party – go for it. Just be prepared to live with the consequences – and to explain your actions to our Grandchildren.

With all respect, the sentiment you’ve just expressed is what I’m having so much trouble comprehending. Here we are–with the nation teetering on the brink of disaster–and some of us are openly saying: “If we can’t have our democrat of choice, we’ll give the republican policies that have done so much damage another 4 years.”

I don’t get it when a Clinton supporter says that. I don’t get it when an Obama supporter says it either. What I do get is this: At a critical historical moment–a possible last chance for America moment–when all else appears so favorable, this is our Achilles’ Heel. And we’re apparently going to allow that fatal flaw to be exploited to our collective ruin.

Compare Obama and Clinton positions on virtually any issue of importance to us: They’re so similar that the two would be close allies, were it not for the current competition. How could any right-thinking democrat prefer Bush Phase 3 to either? Choose the Bush Phase 3 option–or allow it to occur through petulant indifference–and we may never get another chance.

I think it’s perfectly legit for Clinton and Obama to fight this out right down to the wire. However, at the end of the day, we should all be prepared to support whoever wins out, or whatever form democratic reconcilliation might take. I won’t allow loyalty to a particular candidate to override my loyalty to basic principles or the greater good of the nation. Would you?

Okay we’ve been hearing about this tape for weeks. Now it was supposed to be revealed by 9 a.m. today and… big surprise… it wasn’t. I think it’s safe to say the tape doesn’t exist. I’m ot an Obama supporter (in fact, with Hillary out of the race I will likely vote for McCain), but what’s the point of making up things about a tape if you can never show the tape? As a scare tactic to get superdelegates flocking to Hillary “just in case?” That’s ridiculous. They haven’t been moved to their side by ACTUAL controversies, they’re not going to be swayed by the rumor of one. Like I said, every time the tape is supposed to emerge, it doesn’t, and we get some stupid explanation about how someone is holding on to it until a later date. I wonder what the excuse is today. If there really was such a tape, the Clintons would have found a way to get it and would have released it before now (since now it’s too late for them to get the nomination). If the GOP had such a tape they would be releasing it now, to send the Dem race into further chaos through the convention and wound Obama severely before he even gets the nomination in a severely divided party. But neither the Clintons nor the GOP have released such a tape, most likely because it does not exist. I think we will hear about this nonexistent tape through November and it will make as little a difference then as it is making now. I don’t like Obama, but can’t we find more constructive and less childish ways of campaigning against him that the “I know something you don’t know” method?

Yes, there ARE some awful Obama supporters (just as there are apparently some really awful Hillary supporters) but there are also a whole hell of a lot people like me who are supporters not because we’ve taken a sip of the Obama “Kool-Aid” but because we’ve come to the conclusion, based on an analysis of the issues, that he is the best person to put in the White House.

I can’t speak for others, but while I prefer Obama, I think the most important thing is to get a Democrat in the White House. I would gladly support Hillary if she ended up with the nomination. (By-the-way, I’ve also supported her right to pursue the nomination through the conclusion of the primaries–just as Obama has — though I think it would be a mistake for her and the party for her to continue her campaign into the conventions).

I think the fact that you guys were so eager to believe this Michelle ‘Whitey’ video was something real without any evidence whatsoever (when it clearly is a complete fabrication), suggests that you may be losing a bit of perspective. Why are you so anxious to destroy this man who shares so many of the same positions as Hillary?

I think if you really thought about it (those who care about the ISSUES that Obama and Hillary care about and largely are in agreement on) you might see that at some point this politics of personal destruction (on both sides of the campaign, by-the-way) in order to get YOUR CANDIDATE INTO THE WHITE HOUSE above everything else may not actually be the best thing for the country.

Very thoughtful comments. I am sorry but for me the most important thing has become keeping Obama from winning. Between Obama and McCain there is no decision. It must be McCain.

I have many issues with Obama’s policies but the real problem is his character and values. I cannot support a candidate who loathes the America that I love. And no one who truly shares my values could have exposed his children to the hatred and beliefs of TUCC. No one who shares my values could have known William Ayers without denouncing him.

I do not hate Obama supporters, even trolls, but I hate him as much as hate Jeremiah Wright, William Ayers, and many of his other long term associates.

The country I love will survive McCain (he’s not as bad as Bush) but I do not think it would survive Obama.

As for the tape, which I do not care about, remember no hard evidence for or against it yet exists. Let’s not be sure ’till we see it or until the day after the general election.

i did want to also point out to some of you who seem really confused about what happend on Saturday at the Rules Committee meeting, that what was agreed upon with regard to the delegates in Florida and Michigan represented a compromise on the part of Obama. It is in fact a completely arguable point whether Hillary deserved to have even a single, solitary delegate more than Obama for the state of Michigan.

I DO understand and appreciate why she was fighting for more delegates in Michigan and FL in order to keep her hopes alive, but let’s try to be reasonable people. The compromise on Michigan — the outcome of a nonexistent campaign between Hillary and a ghost candidate (which she herself has previously described as “meaningless” until it was convenient to state otherwise) — is not exactly deserving of the outcry of “cheating” and “stolen delegates” you guys have turned it into.

The roots of many of us are in the turbulent days of the ’60s and ’70s, friend. I marched in an anti-war demonstration in Washington DC in 1971. I’d served my country on the ground in Vietnam throughout the entire previous year. I’d volunteered. So what does that make me? A patriot or a political extremist?

Simply knowing a one-time 1960s radical means nothing. Barack Obama was only around 7 years old when Tom Hayden was a radical. Barack Obama was not even acquainted with the man until after Hayden had become an elected public official.

You really honestly believe that Rev. Jeremiah Wright hates America? Jeremiah Wright was in the United States Marine Corps from 1961 to 1963. From 1963 to 1967 he served in the United States Navy. He was a cardiopulmonary technician at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. He personally attended to the care of President Lyndon B. Johnson, and received a personal letter of thanks from the White House Physician, Vice Admiral Burkley. Wright has criticized certain aspects of American culture from a black man’s perspective, and has said some things that sound more extreme out of context than in, but he most certainly doesn’t hate America. Nor is Barack Obama somehow contaminated by having attended Wright’s former church.

Why don’t people seek out the facts for themselves? Why are they so eager to swallow prepackaged opinions whole, like hungry goldfish? We all know the news is being twisted by people with hidden political agendas, but we’re still so damn trusting.

If Obama should really underdstands that trying to become a nominee by stealing delegates is the worst possible way to win a primary. He MUST reject the DNC decision. He has no legal, moral or just common sense authority to declare himself the nominee. The power to nominate belongs to the people not the DNC. So far, the people have not given him that power as the popular vote shows. The best thing for Obama to do is DROP out of the race for two reasons: 1) He has not won the popular vote. 2) He was awarded stolen delegates.

To date there has been no tape but there has been no shortage of hatred or divisive words from both sides. Regardless of who you support, what makes either side or us any better when the majority of our comments are based out of aggression and not in love.

Yes our world is imperfect. We as humans are imperfect yet perfect in our creation. Sexism, racism and many other human maladies exist. The basic tenant of loving one another as brother and sister also holds true. We are commanded to love one another as children of our creator and to forgive as we have been forgiven. We are to be angry at the action not the person.

If this report is/was inaccurate, whether intentional or unintentional, it is not for us to judge the person. We can however, discuss in a manner that is glorifying to God.

Attacking someone based on their actions, support or comments is not the answer. We should instead be looking at how can we move beyond with resolution and respect, if the difference is one which can be resolved. Differences in opinions will always exist. These differences can be rejoiced while still being respected and discussed. They, and the ability to openly discuss them, are what makes Americans unique to some parts of the world.

These are all tough lessons I am still learning.

Some who read this may choose to ignore its intended message or they may choose to attack my atrocious spelling or inadvertent misuse of words. That is OK. At the end of the day and time I hope my love for everyone approaches that, of which, I have been shown. We are all equal in the eyes of the Lord and we should remember to treat as we have been treated.

Republican and Libertarian friends, I just want to THANK YOU for all the preceding comments, and for reminding me of all the good reasons why I left the lifelong party embraced by both sides of my family (wealthy government-welfare farmers on mom’s side, and embarassingly-bigoted, ultra-Christian real estate cheats on dad’s side).

Growing up Republican, I grew to understand intimately the true selfishness, bitterness, hatred and aggression that fueld the inner-party workings, and it’s been a blast to revisit the Grand Old Party members and see that business is still being conducted as usual.

Ah, I have good memories of that time period. What a lovely feeling it was, deluding myself that, as a Republican, I was right all the time. Only the strong should survive. All poor people are dumb and/or lazy. Health care is not a right. Might ALWAYS makes right. Reagan wasn’t lying when he said, “I do not recall…”, ketchup is a vegetable, and George Bush’s refusal to appear on MTV was justified (I wanted to cry when Clinton kicked his ass later).

But the two things that didn’t jibe were welfare (why are we alleging we care about life, when we kick newborns and their mothers off welfare, because we also outlawed abortions?) and the environment (I thought we were conservatives! You know, as in conservation? As in, don’t shit where you eat, even when it doesn’t directly involve duck hunting?).

But what a surprise, right? Tradition and history are the GOP’s brand–especially when the GOP manual for white guys is to stick their fingers in their ears and hum really loud like the 21st century isn’t really happening.

Republicans especially seem to embrace traditions like the 80-hour work week, slave wages, rich getting richer and destroying markets for their own gain, and promoting a society in which, generally speaking, the older generation eats its young.

Oh, wait. That last part is new. Prior to this, most generations wanted ensuing generations to have it better.

It particularly makes me laugh (not as hard as white GOP members, though) when I see Jews, blacks, gays, and anyone making under $50,000 a year identify themselves as Republicans. They have NO IDEA how much the members of their own party would like to shovel them into hellfire, but they’ll take their votes, as long as they can take control of the nation for their own uses.

So, yeah, I’m waiting for that tape, too, if only because it’s going to be hilarious to see how “OUTRAGED!” the GOP is, that some “uppity” just impugned the white race!

Based on the way the Republicans conduct themselves, it might be the only kind of language they can truly appreciate or understand– hatefulness. They don’t seem to be speaking the same language as the rest of the nation, anyway.

Not that it’s pretty reading much of this, but it’s surely out there and it is so necessary that our politics and our culture grow up beyond the need for mudslinging and aggression. From what we have been shown about what our young people are doing to each other (the beat down of a fellow cheerleader, the participation of a parent in bullying a young lady to suicide, etc.) I am not surprised about some of these bloggers maturity. I had hoped we would find bloggers with some degree of intelligence, sound reasoning, acceptance of diversity and proud of two history making presidential candidates. I am saddened that we have come so far but yet has so far to go. Whether this site is the right place to fight smears, it gives us a view of some of the sickness still inherent in American society.

I had hoped the same as you – that I would find an air of civility on this site but I think this is the last time I will visit. I plan to read, research and study for myself and not rely on someone else to make my November presidential decision for me.
