Why We Fight: Because She’s “The Only One”

She’s asking for just $5. Let’s make it $5.44, okay?!

In case you never saw it, this is the piece that Larry Johnson wrote in December 2007 about why he said he’d NEVER VOTE FOR HILLARY CLINTON — and THEN HE MET HER, and it changed everything:

Several of you are wondering who I am backing to be the next President. I have not decided on a final choice because, to be candid, I have little say in the matter. I live and vote in Maryland. By the time primary season rolls around in my neck of the woods and bay inlets, the die will be cast.

Of the current field of democratic candidates I like three in particular–Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and John Edwards. If I were participating in an Iowa caucus or voting in New Hampshire, I’d go for Joe. But he is not getting any traction. So that leaves me with Hillary and Edwards.

I favor giving Hillary more coverage at No Quarter for a very simple reason–no other candidate for president in my memory has been subjected to as many vile, baseless attacks as this good woman. You don’t have to be a rightwing nut to know or believe some of this garbage. According to these critics Hillary is a murderer, a practicing lesbian who is getting it on with her Saudi chief of staff, a swindler, a cheat, and a coverup artist. Oh yeah, her and Bill employ, so we are told, their own hit squad who run around silencing critics.

What I find amazing is how inept that Clinton “hit” squad is? If they were worth a damn (or REAL) then critics like this bozo in Texas, Robert Morrow, would be a worm buffet by now (I will not link to anything written by Morrow). Ain’t it amazing that Bill and Hill are known to kill their opponents and yet so many opponents and critics are still walking around unscathed?

The evil witch, bitch caricature of Hillary is a lie readily embraced by many in America. But it is not the Hillary I have met. I am not a good friend nor a close advisor. And I am not lobbying for a slot in a Clinton Administration. I’m not ready for a pay cut and I like to sleep until 9am. But I have been in her office twice and briefed her on issues concerning terrorism and Iraq. If you had asked me before my first visit in 2005 if she could be president I would have said, “There are two ways–no way and no way in hell”. Sadly, much of my initial opinion about Senator Clinton was based on the filth I had heard about her lack of character and private behavior.

The briefing occurred shortly after I had testified on the Hill about the harm done to Valerie Plame. Senator Clinton was aware of my testimony and congratulated me on standing up for Val. The Senator was very gracious, engaging, and charismatic. And she does not have fat legs (the number of guys who have dissed her for not having great gams is obscene). She is an attractive 60-year-old woman. But that was not what stood out for me. She is scary smart.

I was not alone at the briefing–there were two other participants who are well-known experts on the Middle East and Iraq. We had not submitted our briefings in advance. We made our respective presentations and had a genuine, in-depth discussion about viable options. She asked us tough questions and could think on her feet without having to look at notes. She focused on what could be done to achieve U.S. interests in Iraq without bleeding our country’s treasury and military.

As we talked about the limits and efficacy of using military assets to go after terrorist targets, the Senator brought up the book, Not a Good Day to Die by Sean Naylor. She did more than bring it up. She described in detail the challenges that special operations military forces actually face on the ground. I was stunned. This is not an easy book to read. It is an excellent work and provides enormous detail on special operations and CIA military activities in Afghanistan during Operation Anaconda. But it is tough sledding for folks not familiar with military terminology. She had it nailed, and it was not a mere pre-planned politician’s trick. She knew what she was talking about.

I came out of that meeting and realized I could be seeing the next President. If people could always see the real Hillary she would win in a cake walk. I admit her main failing is to over-think the politics of every situation and, as a result, she has at times appeared rigid, robotic, and programmed. But that is not the real her. She’s funny, quick, and can think and talk on her feet without choking on a pretzel.

So if No Quarter appears to be a pro-Hillary site, it is simply me trying to balance out the mountain of shit tossed her way.

I also like John Edwards. But he has not tasted even a hint of the personal and political attacks that have been launched against Hillary. Therefore I do not feel as much of a need to “defend” him. However, I have given my friends–Wayne Williams and Brad Parker–full permission to publish any John Edwards piece they want. They are rabid Edwards promoters.

Who would be the strongest national candidate for the Democrats? I think it is Edwards. That’s my analytical conclusion. I worry that the hatred and prejudice against Senator Clinton is so deep that it will be a tough obstacle to overcome. But then I think back to a time when I had accepted the anti-Hillary propaganda and what subsequently happened to my thinking after meeting her. The Hillary I saw behind the closed doors of her office is a genuine, smart, very likable person. If America is permitted to see that woman then she has a chance.

SOOOO we should vote for Barky?

      • so saddened

he does impress me as effeminate. but if he cuts both of them (does he have 2?) off and gets the full estrogen/surgical treatment, i still won’t vote for him.

        • oh no not effeminate

It’s awesome how this is apparently acceptable language from people who decry sexism at any opportunity. But if a dude looks effeminate, go at him! Ha ha! He’s probably TEH GAY.

When an Obama troll makes a comment, ignore it and never reply to it. They are here to change the subject by throwing out red herrings. Do not allow them to control any post.

What these jerks did on all the pro-Obama blogs was to make sure that people who didn’t agree with them were banned from posting.Larry does not ban on this site so they are using this freedom to spin and destroy dialogue.

    Ignore them, please.

Its not a problem if people engage them some. They tend to end up inspiring us to carry on and fight even harder and donate even more for Hillary!

  • Mr X

When I saw video of her in her plane talking to the press with a drink in her hand and joking around, that took me by surprise. She seemed totally approachable. Her small town meetings had similar effects. She has a completely different image when she’s talking to people as opposed to giving TV presentations or what the media portrays.

  • ritamary

I would not trust moveon.org. They are 100% in the tank for Obama. They endorsed him in February. I unsubscribed from their emails the next day.

  • jessie

I am asking all Hillary supporters to not go to DailyIdiots or any other site for Obama/Marxist supporters. They are only there to say the same things they have said since the beginning of the campaign about Hillary supporters. But now they want to try to sweet talk us into seeing the light. They believe we are saying we will not vote for Obama/Marxist out of spite and will not accept that fact that we will not vote for Obama/Marxist because he is not qualified to be president.

Do not give them any chance to verbally spar – we don’t like it when they come here so please do not go to their websites.

The time will come to vote and we will be heard then when it really counts in November.

    NO OBAMA/MARXIST
    HILLARY OR MCAIN 2008

This election has changed a lot of people in many different ways. I have never been active in a political campaign until I saw the horrible treatment of Hillary and her supporters on the blogs. Those same trolls who did that can kiss my ass if they think they can sweet talk me into anything.

I like Larry am involved to give Hillary a fair chance. I never bought into the propaganda against the Clinton’s. Hillary was on my list of next presidents years ago. Her proven dedication to public service is truly inspiring!

Ideologues brought us Bush. Now we have ideologues trying to ram Obama down our throats. I don’t trust ideologues. I trust pragmatists like Hillary who roll up their sleeves and get the job done.

    • mimi

It’s amazing. Just when we are inches away from getting one group out, then these asswipes show up.

      • RL

        The Democrats?

  • http://www.myspace.com/helenrose44 Pittsburgh4Hillary08

I think she’s the only one for me too

  • RL

Well no, she’s not the only one. That’s not how a democracy works.

    • http://www.hillaryclinton.com **== President & Commander-in-Chief Hillary Clinton **==

Is that the same democracy that took away 4 delegates from Hillary that she rightfully and fairly won? And “The Only One” implies “The Only One for us.

      • RL

No. A real democracy wouldn’t consider that a fair election.

You planning on moving to Canada?

        • http://www.hillaryclinton.com **== President & Commander-in-Chief Hillary Clinton **==

You planning on moving to Canada?

I won’t bother with you again.

      • mimi

Notice how this is about as nice as they can get. These people have no idea how tough I’m going to personally make it for them.

        Democracy, huh?

Funny how that word comes up now. It never did in all these many months when I, as a Hillary supporter, maintained the right to my choice and was called vile, vicious names.

Where was democracy at the caucuses where little old ladies were manhandled and Hillary supporters pushed and shoved against the wall?

Where was democracy when Tavis Smiley was called an ‘Uncle Tom’ and he and his aged mother’s lives were threatened?

Where was democracy as day-after-day women were verbally assaulted with the most sexist insults?(Some troll was just here a little while ago letting the c-word fly. See how hard the Obama supporters are at making nicey-nicey? C-word, indeed!)

Democracy! That’s not a word you should dare let fall from your lips. The devil must be having a good laugh about that.

Go to your corner and suck your thumb till November, ’cause you ain’t gettin no traction from me pal. I’ve put the Dumocrats and all the rest of you in the political landfill of my soul.
The Party is dead to me. Obama will have to:

        WIN WITHOUT ME!

So hurry up and get all those dead people registered, you’ll need them. Because somewhere along the line Dean, Brazile, Pelosi, and all of you simply forgot to do the math. And it’s your ass now, because the majority of America just ain’t feelin your Messiah.

Stick his own pitchfork in him. He’s done!

OT: I think I figured out why the trolls keep coming here even after we tell them they are second only to Obama why we fight on. They consistently make up total bullshit in their arguments and don’t believe most of what they say. Because their brains are mis wired this way, they assume when we tell them their presence is actually inspirational to fight on, they don’t believe us.

I think this article expresses the feelings of so many – who also bought into propaganda. It’s very powerful the narrative the media is able to set, and the saying is true that if you repeat something enough, people will eventually believe it. I, too, was not a Hillary supporter, but given the option of her and Obama, I finally did my homework on her – watched all the debates, watched youtube videos of her campaigning, checked out the people who endorsed her and more importantly, their thorough and specific reasons for why they were (unlike the hope and change crap of Obama’s supporters – I mean Obama has top govt officials who are supporting him who can’t even list ONE accomplishment – that’s when you know he’s running on B.S.). The more I saw of Hillary, even with all the negative programming conditioned into you about her by the media, I realized I was wrong. She was really genuine, smart, knowledgeable, creative, brilliant, practical and truly caring. Not too many outside the finance world know this, but the Clintons actually converted almost all of their stocks into government bonds to avoid any signs of impropriety – even though there are many other ways of making a lot more money. Hillary has always been admired since she was in high school. She’s incredibly smart, and most importantly, capable. Even Bill has to bow down to her. She was always his closest adviser, and though he has made mistakes – no one can deny he did bring us peace and prosperity for 8 great years. I’ve found that many of us who are so passionately defending Hillary now are mostly newly converted Hillary supporters, who have all seen the light. If you give her a chance and sweep aside all your previous bias notions, and just truly assess her based solely on merits and not previous conditioned judgments, I am positive you too will see what so many of us have.

That video clip at the top of this post is the reason why big money is backing Obama. There’s a reason why BO want to Greenberg Traurig last year to get some money. You all know about them. If not, look them up in sourcewatch.

One of the most significant things Obama did in the US Senate was vote for Cheney’s energy bill. Think of the reemergence of Big Nuclear: GE, Excelon, Westinghouse. GE => NBC/MSNBC/CNBC, Westinghouse => CBS, Washington Post => NewsWeek -> MSNBC hosts it online.

    Media ownership tool:
    http://www.cjr.org/resources/index.php

Big Money, Big Nuclear, and Big Media are behind Obama for the same reasons they were behind Bush in 2000. The same people who brought you Bush and the Iraq war are now trying to bring you Obama, the next Bush. Did you think McCain was the next Bush? Nope. It’s Obama.

Why would they want us to vote on anything? They have been behind Obama/Marxist from the beginning.

George Soros/Marxist is trying to establish a New World Order and we are not part of it. A man who manipulates countries all over the world via their economy for his own gain is a piece of sh*t.

Moveon.org knows Hillary is the best candidate just not the best candidate to push the George Soros Agenda.

I believe the comment that most of Hillary’s supporters are pretty much new is correct. I know that initially I was looking @ Edwards, but as the race went on something did not add up with him and I really started to look and listen to Hillary. Yes, she was and is scarey smart. She had plans and ideas, workable solutions. Geez, she gave me hope.
I found myself inspired by her. Then when she found her voice, I was hooked. It slowly became a love affair. I feel like I know her so well. I feel that way because I see part of me in her. She became the woman I did not have the courage to be. This woman was made to be president.

  • http://deleted AnninCa

I’m convinced that the only true politician who can be a successful “populist” are like Hillary. One cannot actually be uninformed and relate to people well. One must be on top of the truth of the matter and THEN relate that to people in a way that is bite-size and appropriate to the adience.

I personally see Obama as far less bright and articulate. He talks around issues. He can’t be clear. He lacks clarity on nearly every subject I have heard him discuss beyond a few superficial points.

But Hillary is also faced with the same challenge any politician would be who sought to build a broad-based national coalition. She couldn’t let the elitist make her appear stupid. It’s one thing to make it easy for her audiences. It’s quite another to let him waltz her around the room on that.

I thought she handled that challenge brilliantly, and it showed in almost all of the debates and in the interviews.

I’ve waited for so long for her to run. I have always known how brilliant she was. This was a job she was literally born to do.

However, it may not be. I am sure of this point. She and her team have recovered from early mistakes and put together an outstanding campaign that has staying power. She has made her mistakes, but they shouldn’t have been deadly. This year, maybe, but that’s the function of the determination of so many to make Obama into some kind of idol rather than a politician and to, frankly, treat him like the new kid who shouldn’t be “hurt” by having to answer hard questions or take criticism.
She has no reason at all to feel she left a stone unturned.

She’s presented a fabulous case to the SDs and has solid evidence to back her claims.

The rest is beyond her control.

I said this on another site about how the msm had set us up. First they talked ad nauseum since January 22, 2005 about Hillary being the front runner. They played this despicable game of cat and mouse, while poll after poll suggested that she was the likely Democratic nominee. And once she announced, the slow steady demonizing of Hilllary began. Always with the polls about her being divisive.

How often did they post a poll about that? How often did I hear a sound bite with usually some Hillary-hating woman saying how she hated her guts and that she was divisive. I mean they hammered this home daily.

And once Obama won the Iowa Caucus, the msm went batshit with this. And began to hammer home this message: “She needs to drop out. The country doesn’t want her or a return to the Clinton era. She is divisive. A liar” yada, yada, yada.

I don’t blame Hillary for crying in NH. I would have too. The freakin Primary had just started and here was the chorus from the msm along with the Party big dummies screaming for her to get the fuck out.

And then she shifted gears, revved up her game and stood up on the issues and that’s when Obama’s game became softball. Because he can’t compete with her knowledge and command of what is really going on in this country and the world. He can only posture in acomfortable setting.

And once his Carnival Act of Militant Skeletons came tumbling out of his closet, he’s been in deep meltdown since before Ohio and PA.

The SDs can be willfully ignorant all they want to. I gotta believe that in a lot of those Primary votes for Obama pre-Wright and now Pfleger, that there’s got to be significant ‘buyer’s remorse.’

But the worse part, the most idiotic part is that none of these people took the time to do the simple math. They were so busy steamrolling this nomination, they didn’t care who they insulted in the process, and they forgot the one not-so tiny little detail: they’re going to need Hillary’s voters.

Well now you can’t have me. You burned those bridges and none of you can walk on water. It’s over.

It’s 1972 again. You can Recreate68 all you want to but maybe you should bear in mind a little thing called the Patriot Act. During the Republican Convention here in NY a lot of folks were detained. Some for days and they couldn’t do a thing about it. Not even sue.

Bush has something for your asses before he leaves office. So rock the fuck on!!!

I think maybe we should all buy stock in Orville Redenbacher. Between baseball and the Obama Riots, I won’t need to rent movies.

And check it out: Your so-called REVOLUTION WILL BE TELEVISED and it’s going to go oh so well with a Coke.

Are Bill and Hillary Clinton a stronger candidate than John McCain? Can they beat McCain in the General Election?

    I dunno.

After all they had an enormous headstart of a 16 year lead, had all the money in the world, and the greatest of insider level support one could get in the Democratic Party and yet they still couldn’t beat a relative unknown and newcomer like Barack Obama.

If they can’t beat a rookie like that, then how in the world do they expect to go toe to toe with a seasoned political professional like John McCain?

It wasn’t the attacks on The Clintons that did them in, it’s that they ran a lousy, godawful, lousy, crappy, second-string campaign that’s been a complete through and through embarrassment and they can point and wag fingers all they want, but the fact is he Clintons have no one but themselves to blame for their loss.

Now, that may be a bitter pill to swallow for some of you, but when Bill started wagging his finger around and hectoring us and Hillary tried to double back on her Bosnia misspeaking because she was sleep-deprived after it was she that made the big deal about being ready at 3AM, it became a real turn-off for a lot of people. And that’s just a small list of the reasons that people don’t want her anywhere near a White House phone at 3AM.

Very sad to see two otherwise intelligent people diminish their reputations like that.

Now, Obama, on the other hand, ran a very clean campaign even with all the golden opportunities he had to get down and dirty in the mud with these two sociopaths, he chose not to and that’s why he’s the nominee and they aren’t.

Is Obama a stronger candidate than The Clintons? Can he beat John McCain?

Probably, after all now he beat The Clintons at their own game, didn’t he?

Bill Clinton left a $urplus for the People when he left office. That is what matters to voters.

She really IS the only one for me too.

I remember reading that Kos his very self, described Hillary as one of the warmest, friendliest persons he had EVER met. And yet knowing this he still decided to revisit his republican leanings and attack her mercilessly.

When I hear Hillary discuss an issue I am so completely blown away by her depth of understanding. Obama couldn’t even carry her books to school.

Lesser of two evils based on what we know about Obama versus what we know about McCain. There is a huge volume of research on this blog which can be verified independently. Have you done so?

We are still fighting for Hillary but push comes to shove our country comes before party affiliations.

And you won’t sway anyone with that line about us sounding like Republicans and the fear card about McCain blowing us away.

And after yesterday’s performance by the DNC don’t expect people to be too happy with the party.

The DNC leadership chose a loser candidate and keep insisting on ramming him down our throats. Get used to the idea the regulars on this blog will NEVER vote for him no matter what argument you put forth.

    Hillary or McCain.

    NObama. No way! No how!
