Thanks for the link. Its interesting that the subject of the memo is “Key S.C. figure takes issue with Clintons”. That is an odd title for a plan to use divisive racial politics in a campaign.

If you remember, just before that memo appeared, James Clyburn (D-SC) — the highest-ranking African-American in Congress — had said he might abandon his position of neutrality and endorse Obama because of remarks by the Clintons. I believe the obvious conclusion is that this memo was meant to provide examples of the type of remarks that upset Clyburn. The author over-reached a bit in my opinion because Clyburn did not say he was bothered by anti-Obama remarks, but by what he considered remarks that diminished the role of civil rights activists. Indeed, the the memo lists several such statement by the Clintons and their supporters. However, including the anti-Obama remarks put the type of spin on the topic that I imagine would upset Clyburn just as much as the Clintons. Perhaps that is why he still has not endorsed anyone (though it is rumored he will do so today or tomorrow).

It’s taken a couple of days for me to figure out what’s actually going on around here. The advertisment for “Obama: The Postmodern Coup” probably should have tipped me off, but I wasn’t paying all that much attention to the ads. I’d deluded myself into thinking that this was a site oriented toward the shared values and principles of the democratic party, where varied ideas about such things were being seriously and thoughfully discussed.

Apparently not.

The only thing I’m still wondering is whether or not most here realize exactly how much damage they’re doing and who and what they’re doing it to.

No doubt many believe they’re somehow damaging Obama. That’s an error of judgement. After two days of observation, I’ve yet to see a single post grounding any criticism of the man in fact of word or deed. It’s all entirely superfical, and a good part of it may actually be racial. Not once have I seen any mention of what the man has said, or what his actual positions are. I’ve seen it suggested that he’s a clumsy communicator and of marginal intelligence. Obviously no one who has ever listened to the man could possibly believe that–unless, of course, they’re a bit marginal themselves. I’ve seen him called a communist, a fascist, a racist, a radical, a sexist, etc, all without a single word or instance cited even remotely suggestive of any of those things–unless, of course, one is gullible enough to have been sucked in by the whole absurd Rev. Wright smear campaign. Just when I thought the bottom of the barrel had surely been reached, I’ve seen his wife attacked.

This, presumably, is all intended to convince somebody not already convinced of certain problems concerning Barack Obama. All it actually does is convince any thoughful person that he or she is wasting time listening to the rantings the politically unsophisticated.

The really sad thing, though, is the claim these people are laying to Hillary Clinton and her campaign effort. Ironically, it’s one of those guilt-by-association problems. What do you suppose Mrs. Clinton’s reaction would be to the assertion that Barack Obama is a fascist, a communist, or a radical–bearing in mind that their political ideologies and platforms are so amazingly similar? Or how would she react to those who push the idea that if Obama is nominated, we should abandon all democratic principles and vote in a republican, who is a proponent of most of the things she herself opposes?

Diehard Dems are saying “McCain” before Barry. They aren’t enthused, but they’ll go for even a bum with experience over a flouncing greenhorn with sleazy associates and an obviously padded resume.

Clinton can win MA without breaking a sweat, Barry is going to have to spend time and money. And he still may not win.

They can’t lead, they sure can’t follow the lead of the electorate, so what they need to do is get the fuck out of the way. They are both stupid and evil. Like Bush, only they should know better. The fact that they don’t leaves me so disgusted with them that I’ll “move on” to becoming an Independent after the general election.

You don’t correct bad behavior by continuing to enable it. I’ll rely on a Democratic Congress to correct Johnny Boy if he goes too far afield. But Barry ain’t getting my vote, the DNC ain’t getting my checks, and I’m through with working my ass off every four years. The Obama Crew can call those potsmoking little shits out of their mamas’ basements, and see how well they do calling little old ladies and ecouraging them to GOTV.

Also, Obama quoted the Malcolm X movie when he stated to voters in SC that they were “bamboozled and hoodwinked.” An African American journalist noted that those are code words that most African Americans recognize as referring to racism by White politicians. Also, Obama distorted Hillary’s comments and accused Hillary of undermining Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy when she correctly noted that Lyndon B. Johnson built upon Martin Luther King Jr.’s tremendous groundwork by maneuvering through Congress (something that required extensive legislative experience) to get the Civil Rights Act passed. I have been trying to understand the distortion of Bill’s SC Jesse Jackson comment. I always instinctively knew it was being distorted, but have not fully understood. Could you tell me where the full tape of what he said is? Thanks.
