Andy sent this to me. I don’t have a link, but agree that it sums up what a lot of us think about Obama:

“I don’t seek the presidency on the presumption I’m blessed with such personal greatness that history has anointed me to save my country in its hour of need,” [John McCain] said. “I seek the office with the humility of a man who cannot forget my country saved me.”

(Just as Hillary has always consistently expressed her undying gratitude to this country for all it has given her … the country which Hillary Clinton has always been proud to call her own.)

      The journey will be difficult. The road will be long. I face this challenge with profound humility, and knowledge of my own limitations. But I also face it with limitless faith in the capacity of the American people. Because if we are willing to work for it, and fight for it, and believe in it, then I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on earth. This was the moment—this was the time—when we came together to remake this great nation so that it may always reflect our very best selves and our highest ideals.       I am sorry if this offends anyone – no offense intended. It only points out that a good man, a gentleman will never be sexist, condescending or patronizing if it comes to women, or for that matter, anyone.

        I’m not offended. My eyes were opened by the respectful interview Bill O’Reilly gave Hillary Clinton. He argued issue after issue, but treated her as the brilliant adversary she is.
        Compare that to Olberman. ( of course we’ve all heard about his little problem).

The media often overlooked how compassionately she spoke to the concerns and dreams of millions of Americans, and she deserves a lot more appreciation than she sometimes received. As the father of three daughters, I owe her a debt for inspiring millions of women to believe there is no opportunity in this great country beyond their reach. I am proud to call her my friend. Pundits and party elders have declared that Senator Obama will be my opponent.

    A nice switch from “giving-the-finger” Obamessiah.

      John McCain is looking more and more attractive to this diehard Hill supporter. This sounds pretty sincere to me – and it means a lot. Especially after being trashed over and over again over these past months by nasty Obamabots, and watching Hillary get trashed by Obama himself, with the bloviator boyz and girlz enabling him all the way.     Obama is in trouble, he cannot compete with this rhetoric. Brilliant on McCain’s part, he is actually speaking to us 17-18 million who’s voices have been muted. LOVE to see how Mr. smoke and mirrors handles this. Oh, and a thought: do the all white love machine on MSNBC realize that the guy they love so much hates them? Funny how this works.

      Me, too. I watched his speech and thought that he had a lot of things stuff to say. Afterwards, the pundits were talking about how McCain’s delivery can’t be compared to Obama’s, but the content of McCain’s speech was much better and it was new material whereas Obama just repeated a lot of the same things he’s been saying for months.

    As far as I’m concerned, McCain is the real deal. Absent Hillary, if the choice is Obama or McCain, there is no question that the best man for the country is JMC.

    Besides, he’s hitting a lot of the hot button issues that we care about, like the environment. The best part is so many Republicans are angry at him for doing that.

    I thought McCain was kinder and more gracious to Hillary than the “forced down our throat presumptive nominee.” That says volumes about BO.

    We are not going to win this election by abandoning HRC supporters – if anything we need them now more than ever. Now I read that a longtime DUer and all-around great guy Deep13 is thinking of leaving DU. He’s an HRC supporter who feels that we are treating the HRC supporters like shit and personally – I can’t blame him.

    This primary season is done. Obama is the presumptive nominee. Time for us to mend the wounds and reach out to each other and bring unity back to this party. The enemy is not Hillary Clinton – it’s John McCain and the republican party.

    And Deep13 if you read this – please stay. Anyone who treats you like shit or calls you a liar should be alerted upon. You’re too good of a person to be treated like this!

          A McCain / Clinton ticket is as delusional as the possibility of a Kerry / McCain ticket was in 2004. Hillary would never run on a republican ticket and McCain would never ask her if she would agree. Bill and Hillary are democrats and he has a legacy to protect. McCain’s running mate will be a far right type to solidify the base. The repubs are as split as the dems are. They also have Bob Barr running on the Libertarian ticket. While not as much of a spoiler as Ron Paul would be, he could cause as much peeling of voters as Ralph Nader.

    His speech was good he just certainly needs to improve his delivery as no one is listening as he tried to smile more..the smiles were a distraction..He is going to have trouble with Obama just as Hillary did if he tries to go one on one for the speeches..
    But, he is right on target when he says this man…Obamie … thinks he was born for his position sought..He is the divine ONE..He has been groomed and schooled for it..
    Boy does he know how to deliver a speech and make a person want to feel again..but, you know what his background with characters that I feel are not the American way..well, I have trouble believing he Obamie believes himself..He spouts the words but, as has been shown when he truly could have STOOD UP AND SPOKEN OUT..he lost his voice..

        Right now in this time we need to work together, there is much wrong not just in our country but in the world, and will take all of us to put it together.

        Being a democrat or republican are just terms, that we use, and how do we use them? To tear each other apart, that is one of the biggest reasons we are in this mess, we refuse as apeople to realize that all of us , everyone is at fault here.

        Being bitter and angry will take us to the corner of the street, where once again we will refuse to cross this street to solve things. It is time to stop this crap.

    Obama has a long history of Sabotaging democracy for his own personal gain…

    At the very end of the above CNN investigative report John Kass states the connection between Obama and Mayer Daley.

    The only person set to gain in the theft of American’s votes is Daley.

      Here’s where I probably part ways with Larry and Susan. I think all this business about his past nefarious methods are just duplicating the Republican “think.”

      I don’t really mind that he came up through the Chicago politics methods. Everyone has to come from some place.

      However, I think it’s relevant when people aren’t focused enough on being of public service to leave that stuff behind.

      His actions in the actual primary season gave me the information. He is not leaving that tactical approach behind.

      I think my own confirmation really came yesterday. Timing the SD count so she couldn’t even win South Dakota was really, really a big slap in the face to me.

      I got it.

      He knows that it’s a slap in the face of her supporters. No question about that now. Her support is hardly “soft.”

      And yet, he did that.

      I will never vote for Obama or for any of his supporters again because of this one action on his part.

      I’m quite serious.

      I am going to make SURE that no SD of him in my area ever gets my support.

      I may decide to go further, and support financially their opposition. It depends. I won’t backlash without good solid evidence that it’s worth it.

      But I’m SURE. None of them will get my vote, ever again.

      Obama has insulted me to my very bones. I saw it early on, with the Reagan speech. I didn’t bite like a lot, “Oh, he loves Reagan.”

      No, that speech was all about hating the Clintons. I got it.

      And I’ve been proven correct. Even this tape?

      Look what Michelle is ranting against. Clinton.

      I simply think this is insanity talking. Bill Clinton has done fabulous stuff, even as an ex-president.

      I can’t even “get” someone who is so insanely jealous or race-oriented that they dismiss the efforts of people who are working for Africa and elsewhere.

      It’s just too flipping personal. It’ too out there.

      I am at ease today.

      I think, as in the past, Hillary and Bill are too advanced.

      They are the true progressives. Always has been.

      And that’s Ok.

      I’d rather they lose because of this than win being the jerks that I see on the side of Obama.

    I knew it. The DNC back-up has begun already. The leadership is pressuring delegates to state their preferences. If Obama is the nominee, why all of this pressure? Because they know that he does not have, and will not reach 2210, which is the number of delegates in the *real* world, not some ginned up, post RBC-new math concoction that could become the subject of a congressional investigation.

    Just as I suspected, reality is catching up with the media and the pro-Obama thugs in the DNC. Obama is dancing on straw, smoke and dust, trying desperately to explain why he should be the nominee when he doesn’t have enough delegates to hit 2210, the delegates he purchased to reach 2129 are on the fence (pending the tape and other pieces of dirt), and many other delegates are also on the fence, afraid of their own election battles down the road, saddled with a weak, divisive nominee who is virtually guaranteed to lose to McCain.

    There is no nominee, people. Nothing has changed. She has the popular vote lead (and there’s nothing that Dean, Reid, Pelosi, Clyburn or Brazille can do about it), and he lacks the delegates to claim victory.

      If anyone were to cover up the names on the resume’s of the 3 candidates (Clinton, McCain, Obama) and review the resume’s without the filters of age, race, and sex, it would be clear that this is how they would rank, in terms of experience/qualifications:

    McCain’s quiet dignity was quite impressive last night, particularly with regard to the quote you printed. Although it was a widely panned speech and appeared boring, the man has substance. I don’t agree with him on most issues, but I respect him and feel that he truly loves his country and has given the best parts of his youth to this nation. This is not something Obama can claim. Obama, although a magnificent speaker with tremendous charisma is merely mouthing platitudes that that illicit a Pavlo’s dog response from his crazed, youth-laden audiences. This is not to say that the guy isn’t something to watch, but SO WHAT!! I’m far past being mesmerized by this kind of rock star mentality. He still lacks experience, judgement (as evidenced by his myriad ministers and associations/friends) and is dishonest in his dealings.       I want to challenge the myth that he is a great speaker. What is so great about him looking from side to side at his teleprompters (like someone watching a tennis match). If you mute it and watch the speech, you see no eye contact or no way of trying to connect with the audience. He may do that in the rallies and stump speeches where he is moving about but his big speeches from the teleprompters are generally like a guy watching a tennis match.

Many have lamented the decline in educational standards over the decades, but every citizen from primary school to retirement should learn how the executive and legislative branches of our government are elected. You have given a master class in this topic, but it is not yet time for the final exam. Please, please, Senator Clinton, continue educating the country by going to Denver and seeking the nomination for PRESIDENT from your party.

    The super- or automatic delegates should do their job. I have seen too often how those with some amount of power become lazy–it is go along to get along in order to keep what they have and a ready acceptance of taking the easy way out of whatever conflict or challenge that might arise. You won the popular vote, and you won the (almost) winner-take-all system that will actually happen at the end of this year. The former is democracy, the latter is not. The in-between system of the Democratic National Party, using delegates is really a mixed bag. What has become painfully clear is that your party believes some votes are more valuable than others. The Rules and Bylaws Committee of your party also believes that the certified votes of states can be apportioned however they decide, not how the voters decide. How is this different in effect from changing vote tallies after-the-fact or stuffing the ballot box with fake ballots?

    I believe your campaign can clearly make the case to ALL of the delegates (Some pledged delegates are not bound.) that you are the best candidate, by the numbers, for president: popular vote, electoral college, ¿number of Congressional districts?, ¿number of counties?, and the vote:pledged delegate ratio. The numbers approach is a place to start; experience, history of service, and gravitas will serve to close the argument.

    While I believe there is a place for forgiveness on a personal level, not challenging unethical and possibly illegal conduct during elections serves only to re-enforce the notion that you can get away with it if you have enough money and to discourage further participation in the fragile representative democracy that exists in the United States.

    You are a role model for every American. Thank you for inspiring me.

    To those who may think that merely acquiescing to a VP spot for Hillary Clinton will ensure votes for the “presumptive” nominee, Barack Obama–think again.

    I have sent my message to Senator Clinton. If the VP spot if offered, I hope she refuses. Taking a second seat on the ticket is not worthy of who she is. Either way, if Obama is run as a Presidental candidate, I will vote for John McCain. It will be the first time I will ever vote for a Republican. Not because I agree with McCain on many issues but because I believe he’s an honorable man and my dissenting vote will be one small voice against a party system that is bankrupt.

    I do not say this lightly. But I will vote for McCain and I will vote down ticket to send a message to anyone and everyone in DC who thinks we “will all get in line.” I am disgusted with the actions of the party leadership. I am equally disgusted with the press once again relinquished its responsibility and any objectivity it may have once had.

    BO will never bring universal health care. In one of the early debates Hillary told him that his plan will be picked apart (I don’t remember the exact words) if he – as he intends – leaves it to the decision of the people. She is right.
