Tuesday JUNE 10 is INDEPENDENCE DAY.

The day voters will switch their registration from Democrat to Independent.

You can still vote either way. It’s a protest move about the way the DNC has treated Hillary and her voters.

About the way Obama and the DNC shafted Hillary. First by cutting her FL & MI delegates in half, but leaving South Carolina (Obama’s state) in tact when they broke the same rule.

Then by giving Obama MI when he wasn’t even on the ballot. He made a strategic decision to remove his name in order to gain favor with Iowa, which he did. He won the Iowa “caucus”. He should accept the MI loss along with the IA win. His decision. Hillary had nothing to do with it.

The DNC gave Obama ALL the uncommitted in Michigan meaning the votes of some people were hijacked. Example, if you voted for Mike Gravel who took his name off, and your second choice was Hillary – too bad, they gave it to Obama.

Then, if that wasn’t enough, Obama stole an additional 4 delegates directly from Hillary.

So, INDEPENDENCE DAY is to protest all of that, the Texas ripoff, the other corrupt caucuses, continually trying to force her out, pushing SDs to push Obama over the top knowing Hillary won the popular vote, etc………

I’ve been reading this blog for several days now, especially the comments section.

I’d like to comment on a few things.

Firstly, I support Obama, not McCain.

I hope I won’t be flamed, abused or sneered at because I support Obama in the General Election. I expect I may be, because I’ve seen some terrible mean, angry, and dare I say it, bitter comments here.

I’ve been quite distraught at the sheer meanness I’ve seen in some of these comments, and in fact in a great number of them. They’re not worrying because they’re anti-Obama, but because they seem so utterly angry. Many are sarcastic, cynical sneers.

Again, I hope I am entitled to post without copping flak based on who I support. I expect I’ll cop some anyway, but I just hope I can write and hopefully appeal to some of you on a personal level.

I’m not trying to get anyone to change their votes or their support.

I don’t want anything I say to appear condescending or sexist or discriminatory in any way. I don’t mean to discriminate in any way.

But what I want is to address a few things that I’ve seen here, and perhaps get some commentators to view their own comments in a light less influenced by anger or cynicism.

- I don’t want to appear to be rubbing salt into wounds or attacking or sneering or savaging anyone at all. I want to be as sincere as I possibly can be.

- I’m not an Obama worker or paid by Obama.

- Because I felt I needed to make that point, doesn’t mean I’m an Obama campaign worker or paid by Obama. I make it because I’ve seen many posts by Obama supporters attacked as being put up by ‘paid Obama trolls’, and the like.

- I can’t understand precisely how some of the Clinton supporters who post here feel. But I can certainly understand in general terms how it feels to support a candidate, to want that candidate to win with all your heart and mind, and then to not see that achieved.

-I don’t think Senator Clinton has had her nomination ‘stolen’. I cannot see why this was a theft if Senator Clinton agreed to “participate” or “campaign” in the Michigan primary, yet participated and won with no other names on the ballot paper. I know this is a sore issue for many and I’d like to be corrected in a civil way, but I apologise if I’ve offended anyone uncivilly.

- I don’t feel Jeremiah Wright is racist. I can’t see any comments he made which were ‘anti-white’: although I haven’t read all this comments or seen all his comments and so I stand to be corrected. I saw Reverend Wright as a bombastic, paranoid, anti-government preacher who felt persecuted by an America he didn’t feel part of. I saw him as the kind of person who needed to defend his congregation against an America that he felt, that they didn’t feel a part of.

- I am an African-American. The statement by Harriet Christian and others, that black people are somehow mindless followers is not true. Black people do not vote for a candidate based on the color of their skin any more than white people do.

Black candidates tend to appeal to black Americans because black candidates are seen to be looking out for black interests: they often address racial issues more clearly and more directly than candidates of other race.

Remember when Hillary had half of the black Primary votes? This shows that black people do not vote mindlessly.

-Us or them: racism, discrimination, even the vitriol that has been cast from some Obama supporters upon some Hillary supporters, and vice-versa, comes down to an ‘us or them’ mentality. In fact, almost every social conflict comes from this mentality. It is the feeling that the group we are most familiar with will protect us, and that a threat from another group is not only a threat against us collectively but against us individually.

Which is why it is hard to feel an attack on the person we support, is not an attack on us. That stands for any candidate of any party of any race.

- I have seen plenty of commentary directed both ways, from Obama supporters to Hillary supporters, and from Hillary supporters to Obama supporters.

- I don’t think the ‘Whitey’ video exists.

I don’t think the fact that Obama supporters are addressing the issue of it’s existence means they are somehow aware of it’s existence and trying to cover it up.

If the tables were turned and a rumour spread that Hillary had been caught on tape making racist remarks, I think Hillary supporters would certainly address the issue. This has no bearing on the probability of the tape’s existence.

Obama supporters would, of course, hope the tape does not exist. Some might even be scared that it COULD exist.

The tape is too perfect a fantasy.

It is confronting for people who have never seen a black church, compare that church and a pastor like Wright to, for example a Catholic mass with all it’s solemnity. It is confronting and I think it makes people afraid and I would hope that people would be honest with themselves when they see these videos – honest enough to admit whether they are afraid of the WAY in which Wright conducted himself, or the content of his speech.

The ‘Whitey’ tape is too perfect a fantasy. It appeals to those who believe Michelle Obama to be anti-American based on her statement that she had not been proud of America. Some have talked of an anti-American thesis. How many have read it? How many of the people who talk about it have read it? I suspect, again, very few.

The ‘Whitey’ tape rumour has been conceived. Either by Larry Johnson or others. It is realistic enough to appear believable, but you will never see it, you will only hear vague threats of it’s use ‘in the Fall’.

It is realistic enough a rumour because of what people have seen of the Trinity Church – it’s bombast, it’s ‘blackness’ – and what people in their own hearts believe of Michelle Obama and the Church (that they are anti-white – of which there is, really, no evidence. Because it is not true. Be honest, open minded when you think about this.).

- I don’t think it can be used to reflect upon a particular candidate’s perspective or point of view or regard for a group of people.

This campaign has been immersive for people on all sides: Hillary supporters, Obama supporters, McCain supporters, Ron Paul supporters – both most especially for Hillary and Obama supporters.

We have invested so much emotionally in both our candidates. At least, I feel this, and I know others who have felt this way and expressed it to me, both Hillary and Obama supporters. It has been tiring, exhausting, trying. It has been long.

But the facts are these:

That Obama supporters do not hate Hillary supporters. That we can speak only for ourselves and presume for others – hypocritically, falsely or correctly, and I admit I, as a hypocrit, make the mistake of generalisation time and time again. It is difficult for anyone to overcome thought patterns of generalised nature: whether they be regarded as socially discriminatory or not.

That a number of Hillary supporters see Obama as a crook, as rotten, and as worse.

I encourage you not to listen to the pundits on Fox or ABC, the editorials in the newspapers, the posts on blogs, when you make such an important decision about someone, but rather investigate the claims yourself: investigate the claims about Rezko, and Ayers, and anyone else who Obama has supposedly been tainted by – and certainly tainted subjectively in the eyes of some supporters here.

Don’t take the word of somebody else. You owe it to yourself, really, to make a determination based on your own investigation and not what someone else has told you.

I strongly feel that many of the anti-Obama claims are utterly baseless, or spurious at the very best.

Claims of caucus lockouts, of Obama’s criminal associations, of Obama’s Islamic background or his black liberation theology or anything else: it is too easy to accept the notion that someone you don’t like would commit a criminal act or act in a criminal manner. Investigate the claims. Don’t just believe them. I cannot implore you enough, I beg you to seek the truth yourself rather than to accept the claims that someone else has made.

Too long have rumours influenced voters. Baseless rumours. McCain’s black bastard child. Kerry’s cowardice in Vietnam. Now a ‘Whitey’ tape.

I’m truly sorry that this has turned out the way it has. I’m truly sorry that a number of commentators feel disenfranchised by the party. I’m sorry that people have clung to their respective nominees – Obama supporters more so, in my opinion, than Hillary supporters.

I’m sorry that the nomination race has ended like this. I couldn’t think of a worse way for it to end.

But I implore you to read through my post, my whole post, and think very closely and very deeply. I’m not attempting to attack you and again if I have I am sorry.

I am only asking you to justify a hatred for a man based on more than what someone has told you about him.

How many Republicans hate Bill Clinton with a passion, based on spurious and baseless evidence? I am sure there are few who hate him based solely on what he did with Monica Lewinski, and many more who hated him long before that – because they accepted what they were told and didn’t think critically.

I see people of different opinion here, when they post, painted as ‘trolls’. I’m not sure what this means, but I hope it isn’t someone who posts an opinion that is different to the normative one.

I don’t mean to stir up passions or incite flaming attacks. I only hope that you’ll read my post and think about those things that I’ve mentioned, and seek for yourself those reasons for why you dislike Obama – rather than repeating what you’ve been told.

Actually, I came here because I heard about about a tape of Michelle Obama making racist comments and wanted to see if it was true. And then I got sidetracked by sadness at how angry my fellow Democrats are that we are going to win the Presidency this year.

One of the Democratic campaign’s great misperceptions has been that Clinton held an overwhelming advantage among women voters. But that isn’t the case. As expected, Clinton captured the over-65 vote, and Obama won over younger women. But women in the middle split almost evenly between the two. Clinton won just over a majority of women’s votes.

The blurb I read said it had to do with the nuclear error of last June, though I don’t know if that is correct.

Here’s a quote from someone I know who saw the whole thing evolve first-hand. As many of you suspected, HRC was strong-armed by the DNC. What you might not have suspected (as I did not) was that the media kept reporting she was dropping out (without checking first with her campaign) as a form of pressure; which seems extraordinary to me. If you ever needed confirmation that this guy is being shoved down our throats—for all the wrong reasons(by all the wrong vested interests)—here it is, I guess.

“Okay, so now that Hillary has issued a statement to the press, I’ll elaborate on what I know:

Basically, on Tuesday Hillary spent the day at home calling superdelegates. In doing so, she discovered that Obama supporters, Uncommitted supers and a
few of her supporters had essentially made a pact with the DNC that they would not support Hillary at the convention. She was essentially told that she
needed to get out of the race asap. Someone told the press that she was going to get out last night, but Hillary didn’t want to exit the race when someone
else told her to do it (the media) and instead, decided she would exit on her own time, under her conditions. I think it was her last opportunity to
actually call her own shots versus having the DNC, party officials and media do it. In fact, during the meeting today, she joked that she had realized
that she wanted to be a person who “talked for a living”, as you always had work and the things you said didn’t even have to be true. Anyway, apparently, the idea that Obama isn’t going to be able to win the nomination came up while talking to the DNC/supers and the response she received was that Obama brought
in a lot of new Democratic voters (and ultimately, a lot of new Democratic money) and thus, while the party might lose the election in the short term
(the presidential election, that is), the long term would be good, as the party would have lots of new voters and money. The belief was that even
though Obama might not be able to win the presidency, the fact that he had all these new voters” would help to ensure that the party won the
congressional and senatorial seats in play in November. I asked if Hillary had read the comments posted by her supporters and was told that she did and
that if she felt she could win the election (garner the superdelegate support at the convention), she would have stayed in the race. However, the DNC and
supers made it very clear to her that they would not support her and that she needed to get out.

The airwaves today were full of Obama supporters demonizing Hillary for not dropping out of the race last night. They went on and on about how selfish
she is and how “dare she strong arm for the VP position”. I was told that she has never once asked for the VP spot AND that she hasn’t been talking to the
Obama campaign at all about what to do next. She came to her decision on her own, but did indicate that she would use some of her delegate support to get
the healthcare plan on the Obama platform. In typical Obama fashion, he allowed the media to go on and on for the last two weeks about how Hillary is
staying in the race so she can be the VP. Today that rhetoric reached a ridiculous level and the hate directed at her was completely over the top.
Again, no statement from Obama regarding the truth: That she had NOT asked or the VP spot. (In fact, from what I understand, Hillary has no obvious
desire to be a part of the Obama campaign whatsoever. This seems good, as right now, people love her and she can exit this looking like the queen that
she is. If she goes with Obama, then the media will say that they were right all along-that Hillary stayed in this after March because she wanted the VP
spot…his supporters will also go crazy with that logic, as they have no idea that she stayed in for us and because she should have been able to win had the
supers and DNC not been in Obama’s pocket.) Regardless, around 6:30, the media began reporting that Hillary would concede on Friday. Apparently, she
hadn’t reported this to the media and they were again frustrated with the media’s attempt to strong arm her into conceding on Friday. Despite the fact
that she was going to concede, she wanted it on her own terms. Thus, she decided to set a date to concede, but scheduled it for Saturday-one last
opportunity to stick it to the media (we love Hillary for that). About one hour after that, Obama issued a statement admitting that Hillary did not
negotiate anything before indicating she would concede. Once again, he believed it would make him look good to appear “gracious”, but clearly fails
to realize that her supporters are not the idiots that he and his supporters think we are. It seems that today, his supporters are starting to figure out
that they will need her supporters to win the election (though it’s too little, too late in my opinion…) and are attempting to opportunistically seize upon the moment.”

What my friend does not mention, was that HRC did not concede Tuesday because the Obama camp said they were over the top but refused to provide any proof. Since most of the supers had promised not to come out until Wednesday, The HRC camp suspected (rightly, I think) that he was not actually over in terms of committed delegates. But, because Obama wanted to shift the focus away from his unexpected loss in South Dakota (they had predicted they would win by 15 points) and further media hand-wringing over his inability to capture the ‘working class white vote’ —and towards the “historic” character of his nomination—they claimed “victory” before they actually add the votes. A small thing, perhaps, but indicative of the dirty politics we have seen all along.

A question was just posed (on the Hillary board) at to the overall purpose of PUMA.

Wanting to share it with you and open it up for discussion, this is my take:

I would contend that PUMA — for at least June through November — exists primarly to prevent Barack Obama from winning the White House in 2008.

After November — given a McCain victory — I would contend that PUMA would strive to reform and rebuild the Democratic Party to be the party that America had *thought* it was voting into power in 2006.

Or — given an Obama victory — I would contend that PUMA would strive to become a 3rd Party that would draw in Centrists, Moderates, Independents, Conservative Democrats, and Liberal Republicans… with Election Reform at the top of its platform.

Well, I voted for McCain in the 2000 primaries and would have considered a vote for him in the general that year. But that was then, this is now. McCain has turned right in a major way. The principles he once stood on are now watered down. At one point, he was against the tax cuts for the rich – now he can’t live without them. At one point he was against intolerant right wing preachers like Robertson and Falwell – now he sucks up to them. At one point he stood firmly and unequivocably against torture – then he watered that down to get the nomination. He’ll fill the Supreme Court with right-wingers. I once had a lot more respect for him than I do now. No way he gets my vote this time.
