Milbank And Cillizza Video Series Canned

Recently I had the following video in my post, “Hatred Rears Its Ugly Head.” It is the not-at-all-funny video of Chris Cilliza and Dana Milbank making a blatantly sexist statement, among other not-funny “entertainment”:

And I wrote this:

I said all along that Obama, the DNC, and the MSM declared open season on women. There was little or no comeuppance for ANYONE who made disparaging, sexist, or misogynistic comments about Hillary Clinton or Sarah Palin. I knew it was going to continue, and possibly get worse. Here we are. With these two sexist pigs suggesting Clinton, who can run RINGS around these two intellectually, politically, and HUMANELY, drinks “Mad Bitch beer.” What a couple of _______ – you fill in the blank…

Back to Milbank and Cilliza: WHY DO THEY STILL HAVE THEIR JOBS???? I guess the same reason people like David Shuster does – he can call Hillary Clinton a pimp, and her daughter a whore, and keep his job with just a little slap on the wrist. So I guess what Milbank and Cillizza did was mild by comparison? Their comeuppance cannot come too soon, and it SHOULD come for this blatantly sexist attack on Secretary of State Clinton. Now. They should be fired.

Lo and behold, the “Mouthpiece Series” has been canned. And Cilliza and Milbank have apologized.

Well, big whoop-de-doo. They have already spewed their sexist BS. They still have their jobs. Hell, Milbank even had the nerve to say this:

“I regret that we put up that image,” Milbank said Wednesday, “and while I highly doubt the secretary of state has seen ‘Mouthpiece Theater,’ I would be honored to have the opportunity to apologize to her over a beer.”

I hope she tells him what he can do with his beer. Just freakin’ spare me already.

Oh, they go on and on about how they didn’t mean any harm, they don’t want to discredit their paper, the Washington Post, blah, blah, blah. Well, too late, guys, you already have. And the Washington Post has discredited itself by keeping these guys on their payroll, IMHO.

In their own words:

As for the dozen videos they have made in what was designed as a summer tryout, “it’s clear there was an audience for it out there, but not large enough to justify all the grief,” Milbank said. “My strength is in observational, in-the-field stuff, and that’s what I should do. I’m sorry about the reaction it’s caused, but I think it’s important to experiment. The real risk to newspapers is not that they take too many risks, but that they don’t take enough risks.”

Oh, yes – that’s what we need. MORE media outlets willing to allow two of their big names to spew sexist tripe against the Secretary of State and ALL women. Oh, Dana – you are just misunderstood, right???

Unfortunately, there is more:

Cillizza agreed that the plug should be pulled, saying: “We’d hoped the self-deprecating humor of me and the irreverent humor of Dana would combine to make something funny and interesting and on the news. It wound up not working. . . . Ultimately it wasn’t funny.”

The Clinton joke, Cillizza said, “was inappropriate, over the line and highlighted the broader problems with the show. I’m personally apologizing on The Fix. It’s not consistent with the Post brand, but more important to me, it’s not consistent with the Fix brand I’ve worked to cultivate — insider, straight-dope journalism that tries to shoot down the middle.”

You’re damn right it was inappropriate. And very telling, Chris.

Feel free to click the link if you want to read more from, and about, Chris Cillizza and Dana Milbank. Frankly, I’ve seen all I need to see of them.

Good for the Washington Post for canning this series. Of course, it didn’t happen soon enough before a spoof of the video above came out (h/t to NQ Writer, pm317):

As I said to pm317, the only problem with THIS video is that is is more professional (!) than the original…

  • Tricia Spiegel

OMG–That spoof is wonderful, and YES it is far more professional that the first outragous mess!

That the so-called professional original guys couldn’t figure out what the response might be, well they need to be in some other line of work that doesn’t involve a lot of forethought.

    Thanks RRRA!!! Good job!

    • pm317

And what they did with the Hillary bit is priceless. It is a spoof but the reality is not that much different when it comes to how the media and the bots act/acted toward Hillary.

      • pm317

Priceless because ridicule is one effective way to get back at the media lapdogs and stupid Obots.

    • jbjd

Yes; and even worse, I wondered what IS the corporate culture at WaPo these days, that would either not give these men pause as to whether they should go forward with their ‘spoof’; or, if they did seek prior approval or advice, not give other men pause, to say, ‘Maybe you shouldn’t do that…’

Thanks, Tricia, and pm317! I appreciate it, and appreciate the heads up, pm317! :-)

This Crap has got to end.

      Patrick,

Don’t worry..This crap is ending soon.

The democrats don’t realize that conservative women have taken up the mantle from the men the left has demonized.
As a Man I never thought I would feel this way..

An attack on a conservative woman or Hillary is an attack on me.

On the right we don’t see men or women..Only patriots willing to defend this country.

    • http://rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

      Wow, thanks, PH! Much appreciated.

And I love your comment – such passion! :-D

  • Lily

Unbelievable. I thought Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann were bad. Have these people lost their minds?

  • fif

What are these guys, 17? Events like this reveal how juvenile the MSM boys’club really is, right Tweety?

  • jbjd

R3A, did you squint your eyes in disgust when you typed this posting? In the ‘spoof’ video, I was waiting for the men to fondle the breasts of a cardboard cut-out Hillary. But this beat everything. We get another non-apology apology, instead of a real apology, which begins, ‘I am sorry for referring to Secretary Clinton using such derogatory terms, and for offending so many people with my poor judgment.’ Instead, we get this.

The Clinton joke, Cillizza said, “was inappropriate, over the line and highlighted the broader (emphasis added) problems with the show. I’m personally apologizing on The Fix.

    and this, from Milbank

I highly doubt the secretary of state has seen ‘Mouthpiece Theater’…

As for reflecting poorly on the WaPo, was anyone still loyal to that paper for whom this fiasco could have been the last straw? Rather, I would imagine, anyone still in tow would not have taken offense.

    • http://rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Well, I admit that it took me a while to watch the original after I first heard of it. Then when I SAW it, I just couldn’t believe it. Wow…

I agree – what a poor “apology” offered up, especially by Millbank. He doesn’t get that he didn’t offend just Secretary Clinton, who may not have seen this horrible piece, but he offended those of us who recognize her for the stellar person she is, and ALL women with that kind of sexist tripe.

As others have said, it was pathetically juvenile.

  • TeakWoodKite

    I think it’s important to experiment…

    ,
A working hypothesis is usually required, even Frankenstein had one.
    -

..insider, straight-dope journalism that tries to shoot down the middle.”

Is he talking about his evening at the carnival?

Funny how the truth can ricochet.

    • Julia

      it’s importyant to experiment??

To experiment WHAT? Sexism? They really don’t know that they can’t “practice” sexism that this is discrimination??

    • Patrick Henry

No wonder it was SO BAD Kite..

What did they call It..”STRAIGHT DOPE”..and “DOWN THE MIDDLE”…Thats exactly How they Acted..

Two DOPY Guys..who were down in the Middle of a Sewer..They acted like The “FUMES” had gotten to them..They sure seemed “SICK” to me..and they STUNK Really…Really Bad..

Children like that need The “NANNY..”.

      Just Sayin..

      P.H.

  • candymarl

At least the two guys in the second video were actually funny.

  • TeakWoodKite

How low will the corporate media desend?

I used to enjoy “The Spin Room” but CNN took it off the air. Satire has it’s place but not in the “news” room…

Rev.Amy do they not understand they can’t compete with SNL?

  • Texas Playwright

Another lesson that the masses, person by person, can get used to anything if not confronted. As a Baby Boomer female, I’ve experienced enough sexism already, and call out both men and women on their disrespect for women. Damn straight the DNC, MSM and bho the fraud all colluded to disparage Hillary, Sarah and all women who dare to be fully themselves.

Another boffo post, R3, Amy. Keep on keeping on, girl/woman/lady friend/HUMAN BEING.

    • http://rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Thanks so much, Texas Playwright! I appreciate that, and will certainly try to do what I can…

And you are absolutely right – if we don’t speak up, they take that as tacit approval, and we saw what happened with THAT this past election…

Teak, no, they think they can do ANYTHING, apparently. Heck, they got away with it before, why not NOW???

Please post addresses — particularly emails — where we can respond directly to this, and insist on the sacking of sexist media men.

  • Jackarooty

I knew it, I knew it, I knew it!

Amy, I saw and read this mess the other day and wanted to send it to you for future blogging but somehow I also knew that it would NOT escape you!
Great catch and great article as always.

I’ve been watching Roseanne re-runs and there was a great one on last night “That’s Our Rosey”. It was a spoof on 50s sitcoms and how women were portrayed as second class citizens (morons). I guess some things just don’t change.

  • Daisy Mae

I already wrote my heartfelt feelins to Millbank. Drinkin his Silly Prick Beer. Mah goodness, them boys shor need some traipsin around out doors with all that beer and things theyre stuffin down their lil gullets.

  • JMM

Thank you for posting this Rev. Amy. These guys just don’t get it. They should be fired, but of course, that will never happen.

    • http://rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

No, sadly, it won’t. It seems men can continue to say incredibly misogynistic/sexist things abt women and at best, get a slap on the wrist, like David Shuster did when he got a (short) suspension for calling Hillary a pimp, and Chelsea a whore.

I cannot understand how we got here – as it all a smokescreen that attitudes abt women were changing, and these attitudes were just being glossed over for the past 20 yrs? I mean, there was sexism, to be sure, but not this overt hostility toward women that we are seeing by MS “journalists.”

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, this past election made it open season on women. And women need to stand up TOGETHER, along with the real men who are not threatened by women, to put a stop to this crap. IMHO, that is… :-)

  • Katmoon

Good post Rev Amy; I have to say it was probably the icing on the cake yesterday. Lately, I seem to have become sensitive to the ridicule from all sides.(usually I can go right back at those dishing it out) It seems there isn’t much time to take a breath anymore when someone isn’t beating another down for who they are, (gender specific, or political affiliation, age or opinion) At some point that last straw will come.
I guess what I am trying to say is when is enough enough? When does the general population stop cheering on the bully? I like to think there are people who can see they have made a mistake in going along with this treatment of others; I know that awareness has to be self evident.
I am disheartened with the lack of conscience we have as a people and eargerness so many have in inflicting a harm to the specific “type” of person that is targeted. I know if this does not stop soon, and enough people grow a spine and a soul the ability to repair the damage done will become further and further out of reach.

It is all sport to the msm; we need to stop agreeing to being spectators and create an alternative that circumvents any form of participating in generating ratings or jobs or future soapboxes for these irresponsible ego-oids on two legs.

    • Ladydawnelle

      “Applause, Applause” Katmoon!

      PUMA W00T!

    • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

Katmoon, I could not agree more. Well said, friend.

I am disheartened, too. When the meme abt Americans is that we are good hearted people, it is so difficult to see the sore winners; the siding with bullies; the acceptance, even encouragement of, sexism/misogyny; and pitting one group against another, as you so aptly said.

BUT – there are those of us who do NOT condone that behavior, and if we continue to stand together, at some point, I have to believe that WE can make change happen – REAL change, not the empty rhetoric spewed by Obama (and Axelrove). Dare I say it – yes we can! :-)

  • LisaB

Fun!! Journalists should never try to be comedians. They take themselves and their position in society WAAAAAYYY too seriously.

    Sooooo glad someone “posted” them.

  • mary

    Rabble Rouser Amy

Great post, once again. Just spent time reading the letters to Washington Post editor on these clowns’ blog. Incredible! Unbelievable! Absolutely heart-warming! Why do I say this? Because 42 out of 50 posts were in favour of Secretary Clinton’s integrity not being slandered by these 2 monkey-journalists.

How life-affirming and gender-affirming to have *most* responders protect the right of this outstanding public servant who happens to be a woman to be reported on without slander or hatred.
But still, racism gets you a pink slip, but sexism a slap on the wrist.

All Women OWE A DEBT TO HILLARY on this sudden reversal of our equality fortunes. It started with Milbank and Cilizza’s post. It was ACKNOWLEDGED to be SEXIST and they got reprimanded.
In all honesty, do you think this could have happened BEFORE Hillary appeared on the national scene as presidential candidate and exposed all this misogynist crap that goes on daily? No way.

We owe Hillary big time. A pioneer, as always. And she doesn’t even have to try. Her example–or should say CRUCIFIXION by the media misogynist fratboys–during the Infamous Campaign was the catalyst that will make some real changes in women’s lives.

How about anti-woman-hatred “hate speech” legislation? Now’s the time to push. Brian Vallee’s book ‘War on Women’ states more women are killed in “domestic” disputes and hate crimes than any other group, including soldiers in Vietnam and all police officers in last 5 years! The stats are staggering.
