Love this guy! (& open thread)

There was a hero’s welcome for Bill Clinton in New York after he saved two damsels in distress.

Consider this an open thread.

  • Mandelay

Wow! Thanks for posting this — a real treat!

    • Shainzona

Gave me chills – THAT is, indeed, the Big Dog.

  • AF catfish

    Awesome.

  • SoCalDem

How nice we still have a President who has the ability to make us all proud.

  • bho boo

I still want to know what the ransom was.

    • felizarte

You should ask this of Obama. Bill Clinton is not in a position to promise anything to the N. Koreans. Obviously the N. Koreans also knew this. But perhaps just having those photos with Bill Clinton (whatever their propaganda goals are) was worth the lives of those two journalists. Face it, Bill Clinton put his life on the line by going to North Korea. He is the only president who could truly say, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

      • d2i

        you betcha!!

      • Ferd Berfle

You should ask this of Obama.

        Ding, ding, ding!

        You get the cigar.

    • FranSC

I still want to know what the ransom was

bho boo, you obviously have not been paying attention. It was shocking enough that B0 signed off on this trip for Bill Clinton. I suppose in light of the dictator asking specifically for Bill, B0 had no choice but to let him go or risk these young women’s lives even more. Aren’t you aware that B0 is terrified of being upstaged by either Hillary or Bill? I’m sure Bill puts up with B0 only because of Hillary’s position. Regardless of what he or even Hillary says, I would bet the ranch they feel about the same as the regular people here at NQ feel.

Bill had a bad enough experience with former President Carter going to North Korea in 1994 while Bill was president. It created very bad blood between them that has never been resolved.

I thought Bill hit the right tone from beginning to end with this mission. He did not utter a public word even after landing in Burbank. He waited inside the plane for the women to greet their family members without him being a distraction. By the time he came out, the crowd and families were very welcoming.

At the Clinton Center the next day he was asked if he promised, gave, or whatever anything to the NK government. He made it very clear that he went on behalf of “my government” and that it was not his place to negotiate anything other than the reason he went. He and Hillary without fail, always know exactly the right words. There will never be another Bill and Hillary. Amazing people.

      • felizarte

You said it all! FranSC. I especially liked:

” . . . B0 is terrified of being upstaged by either Hillary or Bill?”

The irony is, all Bill Clinton has to do is stand up and he UPSTAGES BO.

        • TeakWoodKite

B0 is terrified of being upstaged by either Hillary or Bill?”

BO is upstaged by his own shadow. Such are narcissist, thieves and fools. Your on the money FranSC.

          • Seattle Moss

            Hey Teak,
            Good Evening to you!

I have been thinking long and hard about which democrats I still respect and consider representing my values.

I can think of only two….

            Hillary and Bill,

All the rest betrayed me and our country.

            • imustprotest

Hill and Bill Seattle, that is it for me too.

              • Seattle Moss

                Hey Imustprotest,
I draw a blank when thinking of any other democrat that I could support.

I have been busy, but in my travels to certain sites I have seen, read and agree with your posts.

                • Onofre’s arm

Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Scoop Jackson? I think they’re great. Oh yea, they’re dead. Well, I guess the only good democrat is a de…….. maybe I should quit while I’m ahead.

                  • imustprotest

@ Seattle Moss! I can’t think of any either….perhaps as Onofre says, they’re a “dying” breed….You were right Seattle, when you were happy for Hillary accepting the position of SOS many months back! Hillary has been a FANTASTIC SOS and has elevated this country not witnessed in years! I was worried about her, but as you said, she’s a patriot and has the needs and concerns of the USA first and foremost….thank God we have Hillary as SOS and Bill ready to lead when needed!

                    • Seattle Moss

                      Hey thanks Imustprotest!

I also said that she was going to have some fun in the job.

Watching her toasting and dancing over in Africa sure lit up my day.

            • TeakWoodKite

Good day to you. Seattle, I respect those who by there actions show a respect for the constitution and the oath they took to defend it.
As President, Bill Clinton personally went to bat for my dad and my step mom over health care coverage, which they paid dearly for. My step mom had cancer and was being refused coverage for what the doctors at Sloan were recommending. He went to Moynahan first and then President Clinton took up my dads issue after Moynahan’s office brought it to his attention. He cared, it was resolved.

Next we see former President Clinton do what Obama is incapable of, getting two American citizens out of North Korea. Now some may argue that it was a political error but the bottom line for him was to “leave no one behind”, a concept that is foreign to BO. Now people might argue that BO made all this happen behind the scenes, then why did his White House distance themselves from these efforts?
SOS Clinton was at WTC on 9/12th making efforts like everyone else, she looked after the people that are being denied care from this event in our history. There are any number of other examples in her portfolio of action, born of intellectual honesty and true grit, that confirms what many “critical thinking” Americans and world leaders know.

Might I add Senator Whitehouse to this list? BO? It was reported he was driving to his paperless state senate office. He did NOTHING.

BO is an immoral fraud. He would rather profit personally, than make ANY attempts to not have his constituents freeze their asses of in a Chicago winter. When asked about it, and claim ignorance and that he did not know his charges were suffering at the same hands he was profiting by, makes me NOT trust ANYTHING he says OR does. And this fool thinks I will trust my “health care life” to his BS?

Wouldn’t be prudent!, but then BO has been doing a lot of “read my lips” since Jan 21st.
              —-
I am curious Seattle, from your perspective, how you would deal with the healthcare you provide to your employees? Or is there not enough information available for you to plan accordingly? If you are forced to pay the 8% penalty, and your “private” healthcare cost are more expensive than the 8%, would not a straight forward calculation be to pay the 8 percent and have the employees go the “Public” route? I am not suggesting, as I know you care about your employees, that you would make this choice, but as a whole many would given the same set of circumstances.

              What say you?

              • Seattle Moss

                Hey Teak,
Glad I checked in to see your post.
Our company provides the best health care available and the CFO spends much time finding the right coverage each year. Whether it be Aetna, United Healthcare or others each has to compete for our business. As a result premiums have gone down each year for the past five years. Hard to believe for some I guess.
As a result of providing full medical, dental and eye care we have the lowest turnover in the industry. In fact we are family, because most have been with the company over 7 years.
After 5 years the company picks up the complete tab for the weekly amount for the employees. Our employees also have the option to not have any healthcare plan and some of the under 30 crowd decide to do just that.
Considering that I’m still clueless on what this socialized system will bring in my gut I know it’s going to be a burden and reduce our margins and increase our prices.

                • TeakWoodKite

I’m still clueless on what this socialized system will bring…

This is exactly what I am concerned about.
1600 is not clearly communicating what is in this bill, and as a result it causes a lack of support and dare I say mistrust and resentment even before getting to the meat of the BBQ?

I admire the fact you have decreased the costs, but as you say your CFO has thier shit together and plays the vendors.

At what threshold would 8% penalties be considered a “cost of doing business”?
If the goverment is going to drmatically change the nature of the “risk pool” and undercut “private” healthcare, would not make your CFO’s job more difficult and with more costs and less choices?

                  • Seattle Moss

At what threshold would 8% penalties be considered a “cost of doing business”?

You crafted the question rather well. I will ask him in the morning and get back to you.
Interesting as a Hillary supporter I was completely behind her version of Healthcare.
I was supportive and not in fear.
                    The big problem today…Our currency!

Obama’s failing because he is anti-business at a time when they need a break during a severe recession.
Socialist’s don’t understand that if you break the dollar the least of your worries will be healthcare as a loaf of bread could cost in the thousands.

                  • OWG

As writer and author Larry Schweikart has chillingly documented, Obama’s monstrous “healthcare” Bill includes, among hundreds of other horrors:
Page 22: A mandate for the Government to audit the books of all employers that self insure.
Pg 30: A Government committee that will decide what treatments/benefits a person may receive.
Pg 42: The Health Choices Commissioner will choose your HC Benefits for you. You will have no choice!
Pg 50: HC will be provided to ALL non-US citizens, illegal or otherwise.
Pg 58: Government will have real-time access to an individual’s finances and a National ID Healthcard will be issued!
Pg 59: Government will have direct access to your bank accounts.
Pg 65: Sec 164 is a payoff subsidized plan for retirees and their families in Unions and community organizations like ACORN.
PG 85: The Government will ration your Healthcare!
Pg 95: The Government will use groups, i.e. ACORN & Americorps, to sign up individuals for Government HC plan.
PG 85: Specifics of Benefit Levels for AARP members – your Health care WILL be rationed.
pg 124: No company can sue Government on price fixing and there can be no “judicial review” against Government Monopoly.
Pg 145: An Employer MUST auto-enroll employees into public option plan. NO CHOICE.
Pg 126: Employers MUST pay for healthcare for part time employees AND their families.
Pg 149: ANY Employer with payroll $400k & above who does not provide public option pays 8 percent tax on all payroll.
pg 150: Businesses with payroll between $251k & $400k that don’t provide public option pay 2-6 percent tax on all payroll.
Pg 167 ANY individual who doesn’t have acceptable HC according to Government will be taxed 2.5 percent of income.
Pg 170: Any NONRESIDENT Alien is exempt from individual taxes. (Americans will pay).
Pg 195: Officers & employees of the Healthcare Administration (the GOVERNMENT) will have access to ALL Americans’ finances and personal records.
PG 203: “The tax imposed under this section shall not be treated as tax.” Yes, it says that.
Pg 239: Government will reduce physician services for Medicaid. Seniors, low income, poor affected.
Pg 241: Doctors—doesn’t matter what specialty—will all be paid the same.
PG 253: Government sets value of Doctor’s time, professional judgment, etc.—literally, the value of humans.
PG 272: TREATMENT OF CERTAIN CANCER HOSPITALS – Cancer patients – welcome to rationing!
Pg 317-318: Government will mandate that hospitals cannot expand.
Pg 354: Government will RESTRICT enrollment of Special needs people!
PG 425: Government mandates Advance Care Planning Consultations for seniors… end-of-life prodding.
Pg 425: Government will instruct & consult regarding living wills, durable powers of attorney. Mandatory!
PG 425: Government provides approved list of end-of-life resources, guiding you in how to die.
PG 429: “Advanced care consultation” may include an ORDER for end of life plans. AN ORDER from the Government to end a life!
PG 430: The Government will decide what level of treatment you will have at end of life.
Pg 469: Community-Based Home Medical Services/Non-profit orgs. (ACORN Medical Services here?)
Pg 494-498: Government will cover Mental Health Services including defining, creating, and rationing those services.

    “New York loves you Bill.”

Some journalist keeps floating the idea he should run for Mayor of NYC.

    • Obamastolemycountry

That would be awesome! I love Bill (and Hillary and Chelsea, too!). Are we ever going to have a leader like that again? One who loves this country and supports freedom and prosperity?

I sure hope Bill and Hillary have a plan because I would be so sad if they could sit and watch the destruction of our nation and do nothing about it! I’m praying that they know there is something about Obama to get him removed and they believe in the power of the people to uncover it! Can we just find the golden key faster, please?!

      • felizarte

Can we just find the golden key faster, please?!

Who knows? Maybe the key was given to Hillary during her visit to Kenya?

      • tek

Are we ever going to have a leader like that again? Not unless we get Hillary or Chelsea in the WH.

        • Ferd Berfle

Unfortunately, HRC will not run again, and frankly I don’t blame her. We can thank the extremists on both sides for this.

          • Jackarooty

            Ferd,
DO NOT RULE HER OUT in 2016!

            • Ferd Berfle

Well, Jack, she has already ruled out running for office again. I hope, though, that you are correct and she reconsiders.

            • FranSC

I would not rule her out for 2012 unless things get a great deal better. Running in 2012 if things are not good is more likely than 2016. However, she could never afford to even hint at such a thing. You remember how she denied, denied, denied that she would run in 2008. It’s the nature of the game.

              • ConfusedAmerican

Once Hillary signed on as part of Obama’s team she pretty much put herself on the boat.

If Obama’s boat sinks all aboard are going to sink with him, especially those on the cabinet, his Czars, advisors, and his VP.
I too once wanted to see her run in 2012, yet do not see her having a chance in H3LL now.

          • FranSC

The conservative pundits had a field day with this trip Bill made. I blessed Hannity out once again for his constant harp about the Clintons – told him I was finally pulling the plug on him like I had done on MSNBC and CNN – for very different reasons, of course. Karl Rove got his licks in as well. It would not matter what Bill or Hillary would ever do, they are going to tear them down at every turn.

It has made me almost be glad Hillary isn’t having to go through what she would be experiencing were she POTUS. It would be a daily blood bath.

            • jangles

O’Reilly was very complimentary of Bill Clinton for this mission. And this will drop your jaw—-he had Glen Beck on that same evening and asked Beck what he thought of BC—Beck thought the mission was done well and remarked about Clinton’s fiscal policies as a big plus for his presidency.

So I wonder what BO’s buddy Chavez has been upto…(“Fairydust, fairy dust, fairy dust”, ‘The Bird Cage’)

SEIU Thugs Want To ‘Stop The Violence’

Things are turning ugly. Town halls, which typically serve as open, safe environments to ask questions of elected officials, have degenerated into violent shouting matches.

Last night in St. Louis, Missouri, a reverend and member of SEIU was assaulted at a town hall. The incident, along with a town hall in Tampa, Florida, has been all over the radio and cable news shows. GOP operatives are rushing to paint it as SEIU “thug” violence. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

Cable news channels are broadcasting images of neighbors turning against one another in chaotic, sometimes frightening town hall meetings. Incited by extremist radio and TV hosts, “teabagger” protesters are yelling and chanting talking points that span from radicalism to racism.

Enough is enough. Click here to sign a pledge for civil, honest debates about health care reform:

Just look at who was allowed into the meeting the same people who started the violence.

Tzada everyone knows who started the fight. And you are coming on here asking people to sign a petition on an SEIU Union site.

It would be interesting to see where the SEIU people who started the fight were actually from. Where the SEIU members even from that representative’s district or state.

Mark your calendar – This Sunday on Fox Sean Hannity, of Hannity & Colmes ~ Fox news, is going to air a very important documentary about Barack Obama, Sunday night at 8:00 PM central / 9 PM eastern. He stated on the air this evening that no one in the news media was willing to do this. Hannity is going back to Obama’s earlier days, showing even then his ties to racial professors, friends, spiritual advisers, etc., he stated this evening that he will show in detail his ties to Rev. Wright for 20+ yrs. How he was participating with this man, and not for the reasons he states! He has uncovered more of Obama’s radical leaders and we will see things that no one in the media is willing to put out there. This will be a night that you will learn more about Obama than ever before Hannity is very passionate about this program and asked that everyone please, please watch!
Sunday night, 8 PM. CT; 9 PM ET on FOX

Please pass this on to everyone you know. Democrat or Republican, you can learn from this. It is critical for our country!

    HEALTH CARE…..For those interested.

Though not mandatory, as some on the right have claimed, the consultations envisioned in Section 1233 aren’t quite “purely voluntary,” as Rep. Sander M. Levin (D-Mich.) asserts. To me, “purely voluntary” means “not unless the patient requests one.” Section 1233, however, lets doctors initiate the chat and gives them an incentive — money — to do so. Indeed, that’s an incentive to insist.

Patients may refuse without penalty, but many will bow to white-coated authority. Once they’re in the meeting, the bill does permit “formulation” of a plug-pulling order right then and there. So when Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) denies that Section 1233 would “place senior citizens in situations where they feel pressured to sign end-of-life directives that they would not otherwise sign,” I don’t think he’s being realistic.

What’s more, Section 1233 dictates, at some length, the content of the consultation. The doctor “shall” discuss “advanced care planning, including key questions and considerations, important steps, and suggested people to talk to”; “an explanation of . . . living wills and durable powers of attorney, and their uses” (even though these are legal, not medical, instruments); and “a list of national and State-specific resources to assist consumers and their families.” The doctor “shall” explain that Medicare pays for hospice care (hint, hint).

      Thanks for the post, HARP.

Use of the word “shall” belies their claim to “voluntary”. I work with government regulations every day and shall does not mean may or even should. It means mandatory. Contracts are audited everyday against the word “shall”, which constitutes a directive. The only reason they even use the word is because they think it has more directive force than “will”, which only demonstrates their marginal understanding of the English language.

I just love it when partisan hacks attempt to redefine words and equivocate. They don’t fool me for a New York nanosecond. Levin needs to have his head examined, right after he gets his counseling.

NEW DELHI, India (CNN) — Indian investigators are investigating a North Korean vessel they say had ignored warnings and sailed close to an unusual location off its remote island chain in the Bay of Bengal.

The vessel, which had a crew of 39, was carrying a cargo of sugar, said K.R. Nautiyal, the deputy inspector-general of the Indian coast guard at the Andamans

    .

Sugar? Must be sweet for some one. Mother ship?

Charles Lane of WaPo has penned one of the sanest treatments I’ve read yet of the whole end-of-life counseling brouhaha. No, it’s not forced euthanasia. Yes, it is troubling.

Go read. SANITY! REASON! Whoodda thunk it?

I applaud this article because it mirrors my own thinking on it; it is not appropriate to incentivise doctors to initiate end of life planning. First and foremost, as one who has done this planning, I do not think it should be done with your doctor. The issues and documents are legal far more than they are medical. This kind of planning could very easily be placed on a government web site that people could access for free with their family members. They could go to many of the internet sites that provide template documents for a very reasonable fee. Or they could sit down like I did with a financial planner and attorney—probably paying way more than necessary, but working through the issues step by step. This should not be in a health care bill and Drs should not make money for initiating the discussion—that will only inflate health care costs more than they already are.

You’re spot on. Doctors should limit their concerns to the health of their patients and nothing more. As for counseling, if I wanted it, I’ll would initiate the process. The government can shove their program.

  • I’m a Linda too

That is just so great. I’m so happy, he is so deserving … and much more.

I always knew that we would be. It was about WHEN it would happen, not IF it would happen.

      • Ferd Berfle

Small consolation but it feels good to say, “We told you so”.

          Ferd,
          As they say…

If I had a dollar for every time I said..
          I told you so!!

I don’t care about being right.
I just want to save my country and capitalism.

I don’t care about being right.
I just want to save my country and capitalism.

I heartily agree with the second but I am also concerned with being right. For too long we’ve allowed people who are wrong to control things. Being wrong is equivalent to being incompetent in my view.

As someone said earlier, “Now THAT’S a President!!”

    Job well done Bill.
