Mirror, Mirror, on the Wall

webrmirror-toon_edited-1

Is President Obama a flaming narcissist?

Or is he just another ambitious wannabe who happened to wander on to the world stage when a cluster of extraordinary factors aligned to propel him to the top, much like in the 1987 movie, The Secret of My Success? (Our hero, played by Michael J. Fox, moves from Kansas to New York City, lands a job in the basement mailroom of a distant relative’s gigantic company, and lands up in the board room within hours.)

A little over a year ago, Charles Krauthammer stated in a Washington Post article:

Americans are beginning to notice Obama’s elevated opinion of himself. There’s nothing new about narcissism in politics. Every senator looks in the mirror and sees a president. Nonetheless, has there ever been a presidential nominee with a wider gap between his estimation of himself and the sum total of his lifetime achievements?

Psychologist Shmuel Vaknin, author of Malignant Self-love: Narcissism Revisited and a bit of a self-promoter himself, also believes that our President appears to be a narcissist.

Dr Vaknin laid out his reasons in an article also written around the time Obama received the Democratic nomination, Barack Obama-Narcissist or Merely Narcissistic?:

Obama displays the following behaviors, which are among the hallmarks of pathological narcissism:

1. Subtly misrepresents facts and expediently and opportunistically shifts positions, views, opinions, and “ideals” (e.g., about campaign finance, re-districting). These flip-flops do not cause him overt distress and are ego-syntonic (he feels justified in acting this way). Alternatively, refuses to commit to a standpoint and, in the process, evidences a lack of empathy.

2. Ignores data that conflict with his fantasy world, or with his inflated and grandiose self-image. This has to do with magical thinking. Obama already sees himself as president because he is firmly convinced that his dreams, thoughts, and wishes affect reality. Additionally, he denies the gap between his fantasies and his modest or limited real-life achievements (for instance, in 12 years of academic career, he hasn’t published a single scholarly paper or book).

3. Feels that he is above the law, including and especially his own laws

4. Talks about himself in the 3rd person singular or uses the regal “we” and craves to be the exclusive center of attention, even adulation

5. Have a messianic-cosmic vision of himself and his life and his “mission”

6. Sets ever more complex rules in a convoluted world of grandiose fantasies with its own language (jargon)

7. Displays false modesty and unctuous “folksiness” but unable to sustain these behaviors (the persona, or mask) for long. It slips and the true Obama is revealed: haughty, aloof, distant, and disdainful of simple folk and their lives

8. Sublimates aggression and holds grudges

9. Behaves as an eternal adolescent (e.g., his choice of language, youthful image he projects, demands indulgence and feels entitled to special treatment, even though his objective accomplishments do not justify it).

Coming up to the present, Jack Kelly writing for the Toledo Blade notes, “A person who wrote two autobiographies before he was 45 is no piker when it comes to extravagant self regard.” Kelly also interviewed Dr. Vaknin, who has not changed his mind since last August.

President Obama is constantly in campaign mode which, Dr. Vaknin said, is another sign of narcissism: “The narcissistic leader prefers the sparkle and glamour of well-orchestrated illusions to the tedium and method of real accomplishments.”

Then there are smaller clues:

If Mr. Obama is a narcissist, it would explain otherwise odd things, such as his notion that an iPod loaded with his speeches is an appropriate gift for the Queen of England and his frequent references to himself in virtually all of those speeches.

And, what happens when narcissists become frustrated because things don’t go exactly their way?

President Obama’s signature issues are foundering even in a heavily Democratic Congress, as moderate lawmakers fret about their cost. Mr. Obama has responded by lashing out at critics rather than by seeking compromise. Narcissists overreact to criticism and can quickly fall into a rage if their plans are frustrated, Dr. Vaknin said.

So what happens if the cheering stops? “Narcissistic injury inevitably leads to narcissistic rage and to a terrifying display of unbridled aggression,” Dr. Vaknin said.

That’s a little scary, given that our President is now feeling some heat.

I don’t know whether our President should be classified as having a narcissistic personality disorder. Only a qualified mental health professional doing a personal evaluation can make that call. The bigger insight might be to understand that all politicians are attention-seekers to some extent, and all will revel in their power.

The REAL issue is us, the American voter. When will more voters be able to set aside the glitz and hype and see candidates for who they actually are without their wide smiles and good-sounding talk, backed up by clever handlers who care more about winning than governing?

  • imustprotest

Yes Mr. Obama, you are a narcissist.

    • Ferd Berfle

      I’ve seen this picture before.

    • elizabethrc

Actually, far worse. I think he is the compleat stalker, and what he is stalking is our democratic way of life. He is out to do what so many stalker end up doing…killing that way of life.

If we allow him to succeed, we deserve what will be left…a way of life that Americans abhor.

Do not, under any circumstances, stop the rebellion at the town hall meetings and do not let the Pelosi/Hoyer attacks resonate to any but their adoring Obamaites. Consider them the superfluous flotsam they truly are. They’re nothing more than the poster children for self-interested, just plain bad politicians who need to be removed from office.
      Let that happen in 2010!

      • proud mobster

Ben Cardin’s town meeting tonight was supposed to show us all the Obama supporters for Health Insurance Reform. However, the protestors still outnumbered them 6 to 1. Yes this is real. The passion stems from the fact that these Seniors worked hard and played by the rules so that in their Golden Years they would be able to have decent low cost Healthcare. Instead rationed care is based on a Seniors value as a human being along with right to die counseling.

By the way, now Congress wants another 700 Bill Stimulus Bill. They have no shame.

  • pm317

    Great toon, as usual.

So what happens if the cheering stops? “Narcissistic injury inevitably leads to narcissistic rage and to a terrifying display of unbridled aggression,” Dr. Vaknin said.

That’s a little scary, given that our President is now feeling some heat.

May be they will give him zoloft or something. Kidding aside I agree with your conclusion. They all are attention seekers. I remember one time in the movie theater, Henry Waxman stood in the last row and surveyed the room as if trying to see if people noticed him. Same thing happened with another politician (retired now) in a restaurant, loud and pretentious. I commented about it to my husband and he made exactly the same comment. Politicians want attention.

About the 1987 movie and how Obama rose so quickly to power, I marvel at the culmination of an Ivy League education, a white heritage and AA appearance, what a fantastic luck of the draw for him and his enablers to exploit. All I can say is what could have been if things were done right. But the product is defective and you can’t get past it. It is shiny, looks nice and you want to take it home but when you do it does not work.

    • Thinker

That one has been coddled throughout his whole political career. Others have to turn over document after document after document about their lives. And he for example, is allowed to turn in a a few paragraphs from his doctor while Biden/Palin/McCain had to turn in their entire medical records.

Other candidates have to take a stance on key issues, but this clown gets to vote present more than any other politician, and he gets away with that kind of behavior.

Other candidates in Chicago put his name on bills that THEY worked on so he could pad his resume.

The list goes on & on.

I remember watching some news story and the talking head made it seem like we have made some sort of progress in this country when a Black man can be viewed as an elitist.

People know that he was arrogant but once again, he was given a free pass.

    • oowawa

I remember one time in the movie theater, Henry Waxman stood in the last row and surveyed the room as if trying to see if people noticed him.

HaHaHa pm317. Henry Waxman get noticed? Did Quasimodo at the Ugly Contest get noticed?

Obama even named his dog BO you don’t get more narcissistic then that.

  • Tammy

I’ve heard so many stories from Hillary supporters about how this poser stole the election from her.
    I’ve always wanted more details.
Has No Quarter written about this?

If Obama can strong arm Hillary folks, he’ll certainly do the same to the Health Care protesters.
This is going to get even more ugly.

And I’m still appalled that the MSM can ignore it.
Selling their souls for a seat next to the devil.

      Where have you been?

      • Tammy

I just found this site about I think 3 months ago.
I saw the craziness on TV during the primaries, but that was all that I was aware of until one of my Hillary supporting friends told me more.

Is there a good back issue on this site?

        • lorac

Are you the Tammy from Hillbuzz?

          • Tammy

            Not the evil lorac. LOL

          • lorac

Well, I don’t know if you are the same Tammy or not, but just fyi, there are republicans who come here, but they treat the majority Hillary supporters with respect. No one would get away with calling Hillary fans “trolls” or chasing democrats out of the comment section. What happened on Hillbuzz could never happen here. This is not a personal attack, just a polite fyi. If you’re a different Tammy, please disregard.

            • SnarlingCur

I, myself, am a long time republican who came to this site during the election to avoid all the “lop-sided” views of other blogs, and I agree; this is THE MOST even handed, open minded blog on the net. Bar None. I still read the site daily, and if a post comes up that I don’t particularly agree with, I just think to myself “I know these people, they are good people, we just have a difference of opinion” and leave it at that.

                Bar None.

                • Seattle Moss

                  Hey Teak,
I talked to the CFO today and showed him our posts.
                  His reaction…

How the fuck should I know!

There are 12 different versions of the Health bill and I haven’t a clue how this will effect us.

                  • TeakWoodKite

I must say that when “discussing” this volatile subject with my sanehalf, I make a point about “da bill” and the response is “there are many versions of the bill, I will wait until the conference report is voted on.”, at the same time referring to the House Bill as a way to say “it is not in the bill.”, when I bring up any number of issues.

By then it will be too late. The damage will be done and STILL, I bet there will not be Three days to read any part of the bill, much less print and distribute the conference bill to members of Congress or the public that actually WANT to read and inform themselves.

I believe wether intended or not, the mere fact that there are not any “solid” vantage points from which to navigate this monster as a business owner must be a nightmare.

Seems to me if BO is engaging in some insider trading.

              • Hermione

Here Here, I came to this site as I like to hear both sides of the aisle. I can’t believe all the Hillary supporters caved and voted for Obama.
To vote for Obaman, knowing he is as manufactured as a Ken doll is quite moronic.

                • Peggy Sue

All the Hillary supporters “did not” cave for Obama. NQ represents a number of Clinton Democrats, myself included.

On the other hand, I support the Ken doll analogy. Quite fitting!

                • Seattle Moss

We are a unique site of formerly passionate democrats that saw the fraud and the hijacking of a once great party by the internationalist’s, commies and socialist along with the Chicago thugs and a complicit DNC and media.
The democrats kicked the Clinton centrist wing to the curb and left us behind.
We were the first to sound the alarm and as the campaign continued many republican radio hosts visited this site to get their daily talking points.
There are millions of Hillary supporters that went for McCain and now they form the most outspoken resistance against Obama at the town halls and tea parties. Most people I have met at these events are ex democrats.
One reason Fox is beating the rest of the networks by 300% is because we found a home over there. Even Greta and her husband were for Hillary but now are hard core against these New DimoRATS.

            • Tammy

Hmmm. I don’t think I’ve called anyone here a troll, unless it was in the past, and they were an obvious Obamabot.

How do you chase someone out of the comment section? I don’t know how to do that.

Are you the director of this site? I didn’t get your rule book emailed to me.

I don’t have to respond to Lorac. She likes to dictate how people are supposed to post, and that’s why I asked her if she is the boss of this blog.
It’s sarcastic, but I think I make my point.

I learned a lot today from reading the links from Pm317.

                  • lorac

Tammy, you know exactly what I’m talking about. You know what happened on Hillbuzz a bunch of months ago. Republicans coming to a blog (run by democrats, Hillary supporters, who had even named the blog for Hillary) and calling Hillary supporters “trolls” and literally telling them to go away.

Many Hillary dems (as I explained on HB at the time) had a home at Taylor Marsh, and she became an Obama supporter overnight and allowed bots to take over the comment section and attack the regular posters until they left. It was traumatic to many when it happened, and to have it happen later from the other side on Hillbuzz was re-traumatizing.

People are explaining to you now, long after the fact, how Obama suppporters treated Hillary supporters. It wasn’t any prettier when those particular republicans (and you were one of them)swarmed a Hillary blog and attacked Hillary supporters. To this day, the vast majority of Hillary supporting regulars no longer post there. It used to be a thriving blog.

NQ is a huge blog, home to many people. And it’s safe for Hillary supporters, in large part because the republicans who come here are very decent people.

              • TeakWoodKite

How do you chase someone out of the comment section?

Depends on where you wish them to go.

BO could drop into any one of the frames and be a blank slate all over again. Everyday is another alternate reality with this guy.

I left wondering if there are two mirrors or two faces.

                Tammy,
I noticed you and a few others attacking Justme as an Obama troll today.
Justme has been on NQ as long as I have and was very much a Hillary supporter and later for McCain/Palin.
Just because she wants universal health care the same as Hillary doesn’t make her a troll.
Just thought I would clear that up.

                • Seattle Moss

                  As for me….

Any government that can pass Tax and kill legislation against business during an economic collapse has completely lost my support when it comes to passing any legislation especially Health care.

These folks are stupid and a threat to the republic and need to be deposed.

                • Tammy

Thanks for the clarification. I am fairly new here, and don’t know who is whom.
I apologize if I was nasty, but I’ve read a huge part of this bill, and since I had cancer and my elderly father has cancer(starts treatments tomorrow) I think this bill will kill people.
Especially people like my father, who is 73. Obama’s bill would tell him to take a pill and go home. That’s bull.

If someone comes up with a decent bill, and STARTS FROM SCRATCH, I will listen.

But too much of this bill is all about NO choice, and government control.
My father in law is British and died because of this kind of program.
I will not be silent, and sometimes I go over the top.
                  Apologies to JustMe.

                    Tammy,
I respect and agree with most of your posts.
Justme is British and lived in the same small town west of London that I lived for eight years back in the seventies.
We were American capitalist’s setting up international business for US companies.
I have experienced socialized medicine as a kid. When I was sick I was forced to stay in wards with 30 other patients and could hardly stand the sterile impersonal service.
Looking back on my English experience all I can see now are shades of mausoleum gray.

                    • Tammy

Why would anyone want the crap care that they get in the UK or Canada?

                      Get in line, old man.
That’s what killed my father in law.
                      I miss him very much.

                    • Seattle Moss

Experiencing UK health care as a boy really left a lump in my throat.
I felt abandoned at these hospitals. The stench and the mental patients in the same ward and the screaming throughout the night.
                      I kept saying to myself..

I will never make the mistake of getting sick again…Very bad!

                    • Hermione

Yes, but at least the UK system, though of course, a socialized medicine program, was set up in the 40s, long before these nihilistic types came into being, and it was socialism with a lowercase s. We live in a brave new world now, many of our politicians have sinister intent, so I believe it is too late to set up a universal health care system, ie single payer, without sinister intent coming through, ie kill off the old and infirm.
My concern is that people should be able to pay for what they like, read Ed Koch’s article, “falling out of love with Obama” he goes into the fact that at 84 he should be able to pay for whatever he wants, triple bypasses etc. – under Obamacare, there will be no such option.
another thing about the NHS – UK healthcare system- is that the govt. does not come knocking on your door to check on whether you are raising your children or to give you end of life counseling every 5 years!
If you have read the bill – you will know exactly what I am talking about.
                      Ciao

You don’t chase someone out at NQ for a difference of opinion or honest debate. If there are obnoxious trolls who want to instigate a flame war then the admin will deal with them. Even so, some former trolls have been rehabilitated so that they can engage others in a respectful manner here. Of course, tempers and POVs will flare from time to time, but on the whole this site allows for differences of opinion. I’ve posted comments that have agreed with the majority and have posted some where I was definitely in the minority, but I’m still here and haven’t been banned.

Well after reading what went on in Texas, I really had no idea that Acorn was so unbelievably organized and just did whatever they pleased. I’m assuming that those people in Texas were from Acorn(or some other Obama support group, since there are hundreds).

I didn’t come to this site until I think about 3 months ago, so I didn’t see all of the “bots”.

This man is just plain scary, and his tactics are so Stalinist. I believe that he will eventually be exposed. The MSM is starting to crack a little. I think they realize that they’ve been had.

Super delegates paid off, Acorn, and sloppy poll counting, the caucus system in general:
            What a mess!
I’d forgotten that Hillary had 175,000 more votes. And with all of the obvious corruption, she probably had more than that.

Has the DNC done anything to change this, or are they all completely hypnotized by this phony, Obama?

Tammy, a lot of republicans have no idea what went on during the Dem primaries. What you are seeing with the SEIU thugs at these town halls is just a SMALL part of what happened regularly to us during the primary.

It is long (3 or 5 parts), but there is a full documentary of all the caucus fraud. Here is one of them, about the intimidation of voters. You can access the others from there”

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4XFvq5XMk8&feature=related

Also, see here how the rules committee completely broke all their own bylaws and both GAVE Obama delegates whose voters did not vote for him, and TOOK AWAY 4 delegates from Hillary who HAD in fact voted for her. Hillary supporters were literally thrown out of the DNC meeting when they protested.

        OH MY GOD.

Now I know how that joker, loser, Franken won in my State.
I knew it before, but I never realized the strong arm tactics of this EVIL man, Obama.

How do we fight this, people?
I believe that we will prevail, but HOW, if our own Government in charge is this corrupt?

        HOW?

        • WMCB

Tammy, there were over TWO THOUSAND complaints of voter fraud and intimidation in Texas ALONE, and the DNC did NOTHING about any of it. Not a damn thing. Shoved it under the rug, told us all to sit down, shut up, and support Obama and the party.

They shoved this man down our throats, and now they are shoving him down the country’s throat.

NOW do you understand why “party unity my ass” became the rallying cry?

      • oowawa

WMCB, please note that the We Will Not Be Silenced film, watchable in parts on YouTube as you note, directed by Gigi Gaston, was produced by Bettina Sofia Viviano, a commenter who used to appear regularly on NQ. Most of us will remember her under her blogname OIAF (won’t spell it out–might get filtered). I don’t feel I’m betraying any secrets because she talked about this project under her original blogname. Anyway, if you’re reincarnated under a different guise Bettina, greetings. You’re missed. And thanks for We Will Not Be Silenced. File this under credit where credit is due.

True! Obama looking into a mirror seems so….him! I bet that’s one reason he likes the teleprompters so much, he can read his speech and see his own reflection at the same time.

Yes, but besides “The Secret of My Success” the best one I think is “How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying” where Robert Morse gazes into a mirror in adulation and sings “I Believe in You” to his image.

Please check it out – I think it’s perfect for Obama. It even has a chorus of Republicans.

Vaknin is not just a “self-promoter,” he’s a Narcissistic Personality Disorder. But, he’s also a man who has come to terms with his own diagnosis; and he’s a man who has earned the requisite academic credentials to identify another NPD. So, dismiss him at your own risk; in my view, Vaknin’s right on the money here. I’ve read his essay on Obama; I’m a retired mental health professional and if I had the chance to diagnose Barack Obama, I am fairly sure the diagnosis would end up being NARCISSISTIC PERSONALITY DISORDER. Of course, you’re right; it’s not really possible to diagnose someone without having even met them, but BUSH ON THE COUCH did a pretty good job, and that book was written by a professional as well. Obama fits Vaknin’s diagnosis so well, and so clearly. There’s no doubt in my mind.

Read a little book called The Sociopath Next Door, by Martha Stout, PhD. It’s a good way to tune up your danger antennae for Narcissists; and that can only be a good thing. But, it will help you see the insidious, banal, but blazing red flags Obama shows constantly. It’s almost like he’s subconsciously screaming his NPD status, if you know what to look for. It is complex, but it’s not impossible. Just go to YouTube and watch the clip of Obama brushing Clinton off his shoe–watch the long clip of it, so you really get a sense of how this man relates to the world, to other people. At the point he made that speech, he felt threatened, he had just blown a debate. His ego was wounded, threatened. He lashed out with barely concealed rage. That’s a narcissist. They can be dangerous when cornered–and that’s always when their ego is threatened.

People have the wrong idea about narcissists–they think arrogance is the only feature, and that the arrogance prevents narcissists from feeling shame. That’s not true. Narcissists feel so much shame that the arrogance is their defense mechanism.

Obama’s NPD. You can bet on it.

I can not understand why some people including us just do not get ” the great wonderfulness of backtrack”

his over the top health sorry that is secret too.
All his friends growing up, maybe they are like Harvey and only he can see them because the rest of us sure can not.
His work ethic, wait a minute he only had part time jobs with no records
His great speeches, no ahh and ummh do not count and the teleprompter committed suicide.

I feel like I am back in high school, we had a teacher who as punishment would make us write 500 word essays on nothing.

I felt like I was watching a middle school student council election last year. “Who is the most popular candidate?” “Which candidate makes the most promises that he/she has no chance to fulfill, but they sound good?” “Which one is not too nerdy and doesn’t study or know too much?”

So many of the people going to the poll seemed to have been trained to vote based on middle/high school voting systems or American idol voting standards.

I can pretty much guess that many of the winners of those so-called elections are also narcissists. But at least their not being asked to run our country.

    • TeakWoodKite

His other punishment was to write 500 words on how roses grow in the Arctic. This was during the 1950s and I still remember that teacher. Nobody messed around in his class. He even counted the words and you better have 500.

Blue Dogs, PUMA’s and Disgruntled Republicans/Conservatives couldn’t derail Ozero in 2008. It’s time to seriously get down to nuts and bolts grass roots, get together, and figure out a way to join up to take back our government beginning in 2010. We’re not Republicans, We’re not Democrats. We’re Americans. Don’t Tread On Us.

    • hermione

Yes, I like that, unfortunately nobody trusts anyone, and with good reason: remember Ralph Nader (2000) Nader supporters were betrayed by Dems.
Anyway, if we all agreed on one thing, it would be to send Congressman and women who were strict constitutionalists to Washington, that’s the whole point of the constitution, it allows us all to get on with our liberty intact and agree to disagree. As long as we keep sending party affiliated politicians to Washington, we are doomed. Remember the Republicans who wouldn’t say a bad word about Bush? Now we have Blue dog democrats who wont say a bad word against Obama!
People need to be intellectually honest, that is why I like this site. Hillary supporters who have turned on Obama because he is a fraud.
Out of interest,do you all think that Hillary should not have taken the Secretary of State position? I think she is being shut out of the limelight, if she hadn’t taken the job, she could be attacking Obama now, and be ready to challenge him in 2012! Just a though.

I mean, I just want to respond, “Well Duh?!” to this analysis.

The thing that fueled him was being the first black president.

He doesn’t care about leading anything…and he’s only worried about not being a one term first black president.

And that goes for his wife as well. She was only interested in being the first black first lady.

These people were never interested in being a servant to their country.

The Madness of King George (Jr.) has now turned into the Narcissism of Malik Barack Hussein Obama.

The bigger insight might be to understand that all politicians are attention-seekers to some extent, and all will revel in their power.

Not sure I agree. All politicians are probably alpha personalities (go-getters) and attention seekers, which isn’t a problem. That One, however, isn’t an alpha personality but rather a manipulator with a passive/aggressive personality, which are character flaws and not characteristics to which one would aspire. His complete obsession with himself (narcissism) is also truly disturbing. The bottom line is that he should be in therapy and not in the WH.

    • imustprotest

Yes Ferd. Perhaps the term narcissist has been thrown around too much as has, someone is “hyper” or “bi-polar”, and then it begins to lose it’s impact. Obama is not, IMO, merely “overconfident” or spoiled and attention seeking, I think he has NPD, a very real disorder.

      • Ferd Berfle

I love everything about this post, Pat. The ‘toon is wonderful, as always. My contribution to the mix:

from Mirror Star by The Fabulous Poodles

    Mirror, mirror, mirror star
He posed in front of every car
They all called him crazy kid
He ran up to his room and hid

He greased his hair with Vaseline
    And practiced looking really mean
He saw a face that’s going far
He posed right there with his guitar

Head’s in the clouds on school reports
He’s always lost in other thoughts
Made no difference, shut them out
He’d be a star someday, no doubt

    (CHORUS)

    Mirror, mirror on the wall
You never treat him like a fool
Here in his room, he is the king
    The wild applause is deafening

You see his face on every wall
    From Camden Town to Liverpool
He lays a groupie when he’s down
And rents the best hotel in town

The kids hang round to see his face
And wish that they were in his place
    Reflections paid, the mirror made
‘Cause posings helped him make the grade

Barack Obama is not real. He is some grotesque phantom…a nightmare creature. I think the recent Joker image of him presents the most accurate picture of his essence. Somebody really needs to take a look at his closest puppeteers, the people who are really running this government. Rahm Emmanuel, Larry Summers, Nancy Pelosi are the names that come first to mind. I think all three of those characters would give Obama a good run for his money in a personality disorder competition.

Well as the newly released book “The Battle For America 2008″ points out, Obama has always been thin skinned:

•David Axelrod’s November 2006 strategy memo to Obama outlining the candidate’s strengths and weaknesses. Axelrod was concerned about his candidate’s ability to withstand sustained criticism, writing “I don’t know if you are Muhammad Ali or Floyd Patterson when it comes to taking a punch. You care far too much what is written and said about you. You don’t relish combat when it becomes personal and nasty. When the largely irrelevant Alan Keyes attacked you, you flinched.”

    • Docelder

Axelrod was concerned about his candidate’s ability to withstand sustained criticism

He owes his very job to the media because without their full protection he could never make it through a campaign cycle. People like Palin are going to chisel little pieces of his facade off continuously until we see what is in there. Some people aren’t going to like what is left showing.

      • indigogrrl

Obama wants to title, not the job.

He’s still trying to define who he is. He thought that being President would finally end the doubts about who he really is. It hasn’t and it’s starting to show. People are starting to pick away at Obama’s bubble.

    Obama Bogus Birth Certificate

The supermarket tabloid the Globe features a cover story this week proclaiming Barack Obama’s “official birth document” a fake and suggesting the president may actually have been born in Canada.

The Globe, known for sensationalism and entertainment scandals, cites reports by unnamed document analysts as claiming the Hawaiian certification of live birth the Obama campaign distributed to select news agencies and websites is fraudulent. The blogosphere has been rife with such allegations for 10 months.

It also cites WND’s reporting about the changing stories about the hospital in which Obama was born. Despite assertions Obama was born in Honolulu, officially no hospital claims him. A letter from Obama saying he was born in Kapi’olani Medical Center in Honolulu was used in fundraising brochure earlier this year and posted on the hospital’s official website, but when WND asked for confirmation, the institution pulled down the letter without explanation.

The Globe also quotes Canadian broadcaster Brian Barron as saying Obama’s mother gave birth to the child in Vancouver, Canada, before transferring as a student to the University of Washington in Seattle.

Hey dont laugh, the Inquirer outed Edwards!
    Who knows!

    • Thinker

      I know, RIGHT??

The Nat Enquirer got it right when they said Edwards was having an affair, they even got it right when they said that MJ only had a few months to live.

We will see how this unfolds but the Enquirer is doing the job that “mainstream” media should be doing.

      • Diana L. C.

Wasn’t it the National Enquirer or another supermarket tabloid that got some of the first really good information on O.J., too, during that whole debacle?

    • TeakWoodKite

      MIB intel.

    • lorac

That theory has been around awhile. I think it’s the one that supports the report that when his mother appeared in Washington, she still didn’t know how to diaper the baby. The theory is that she gave birth in a maternity home and the diapering was taken care of while she was there.

  • http://! stodgie

the point is obama will never define who he is because there is no one home. he is a splintered personality. both parents had major issues and were mostly not available in his life. hence he becomes a manipulator as a young barry to survive. he likes it so well it becomes his lifetime mo. the question in my mind is how can so many american people vote in such an incredibly stupid manner for the last two so called presidents?

Pat, interesting that you show him as a shadow of himself, which I have suggested he is afraid of.

Your art is on the money, but I left wondering if that reflection you paint is what BO “sees”. Does he see the facade or the indifference that is Obama?

Understanding the irrational mind is a difficult task.

    • oowawa

interesting that you show him as a shadow of himself

Thanks for this observation, Teak. I’ve noticed that Pat’s ‘toons are often deceptively simple, and the more I look at them, the more I see. As you note, the figure looking in the mirror is only a shadow–the reflection, the phony image, is everything. The figure being reflected is a dark mystery.

Here we’ve been talking about this all day, and another detail I just now noticed is the frame: an ornate and garish golden halo! How many images of Obama have we seen with golden halos?!?! A golden halo encircling a phony image projected by a shadow. Very cool, Pat!

      • Pat Racimora

oowawa–sometimes I think you know me better than I know myself!

        • oowawa

I read an article on Obama and Michelle prior to the so called election. It was from the Asia Times and it made perfect sense. Wish I had kept it.

omg I cannot believe I googled it and found it. :)

    Obama’s women reveal his secret

“Cherchez la femme,” advised Alexander Dumas in: “When you want to uncover an unspecified secret, look for the woman.” In the case of Barack Obama, we have two: his late mother, the went-native anthropologist Ann Dunham, and his rancorous wife Michelle. Obama’s women reveal his secret: he hates America.

    snip

Michelle Obama is a living witness. Her February 18 comment that she felt proud of her country for the first time caused a minor scandal, and was hastily qualified. But she meant it, and more. The video footage of her remarks shows eyes hooded with rage as she declares: (link to video on the site)

For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country and not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change. And I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment.

Great toon, Pat. Made me laugh and laughing is at the premium these days. Is Obama a flaming narcissist? I don’t know but if you read Dr. Vaknin’s list, the symptoms seem eerily familiar.

We’ve seen or read about these narcissistic personalities before, know how things frequently play out when they’re in power.

Not a pretty picture! For anyone.

Btw, I read an amazing headline on a diary entry [another blog that will remain nameless], suggesting that opposition to Obama’s healthcare programs was the “white man’s last angry, gasping breath.”

I knew it was only a matter of time until race was brought into the so-called “discussion.”

    Incredible!

  • I’m a Linda too

    The answer is YES.

…Excellent post Pat. This is all so spot on, it’ IS scary.

your “I don’t know whether our President should be classified as having a narcissistic personality disorder. Only a qualified mental health professional doing a personal evaluation can make that call.” Well, that sure won’t stop Obama’s team of non experts, will it. And thankfully, Obama won’t have to worry, but if it were one of us, we would be facing a “panel to make the care determinations” and “stakeholders making decisions for the patient”.

Pat, if you had noticed that comment was not even worth Ferd’s time, so pay it no mine.

He was talking about himself, with himself.

            It just confirms your point.

            • Onofre’s arm

Teak, I’m watching the President’s town hall right now. Much like a salesman sensing that his long and practiced sales pitch is going sour, even in front of an obviously friendly audience, Obama is sounding shrill, defensive, and DESPERATE. His false persona is fading, and short of completely removing him from the public eye, there is little that his handlers like Axelrod will be able to do. We’re starting to see the angry little Barry Obama that I always saw lurking behind his phony pacific facade.

Narcissists easily spend most of their energy maintaining their image, because an attractive, but false image is all they have in the absense of real accomplishments, and meaningful interpersonal relationships. When the Narcissist is confronted with more than a small circle of acquaintences that he/she needs to impress, the efforts of concealing the ugly and deceitful inner person become exhausting. Meltdown. It WILL get nastier before it get’s better.

              • TeakWoodKite

Were it that I could watch this weeks installment of “Blue pill, Red Pill”, produced by BO Industries INC., I would know that when the antagonist starts , as you put it, “sounding shrill, defensive, and DESPERATE. “, the TOTUS is out of material.

If Obama is truly a narcissist, would he be jealous if he thought Michelle is covered by the media more than him?

Is this why Michelle so suddenly has not been in the limelight as as much anymore?

    • tzada

Bet she won’t ever talk about his stinky feet in public again.

  • Betty

Or is he just another ambitious wannabe who happened to wander on to the world stage when a cluster of extraordinary factors aligned to propel him to the top

No, early in his life he bumped into that fella whose picture is to the immediate right of the cartoon. From then on he was molded and shaped for this role.

  • Clara

This is a great ‘toon and a timely topic. His disorder has been on display full force into the 8th month. Obama would prefer the job to be alittle more focused on him, his speeches and his interviews instead of all this messy name-calling, rabble-rousing healthcare stuff.

Obama has an unseemly side waiting to erupt.

  • foxx

I don’t care whether he is a narcissist. Bill is too. He is a crook and a fraud and a corporation puppet who is selling out the country to his rich handlers.

He could be a flaming narcissist as far as I was concerned if he was a good president.

    • imustprotest

I disagree. Bill is not a narcissist. He has other issues to be sure. And I don’t think there’s sure a thing as a flaming narcissist. If you think about it, they are not in touch with reality, and that’s not the kind of personality you want in such a powerful position as POTUS or CIC.

      • imustprotest

        I don’t think there’s such a thing as…

  • Clara

Just starte reading Dr. Vaknin’s article describing BarryO to a T. I particularly liked these paragraphs:

In general, the narcissist always prefers show-off to substance. One of the most effective methods of exposing a narcissist is by trying to delve deeper. The narcissist is shallow, a pond pretending to be an ocean. He likes to think of himself as a Renaissance man, a Jack of all trades. The narcissist never admits to ignorance in any field – yet, typically, he is ignorant of them all. It is surprisingly easy to penetrate the gloss and the veneer of the narcissist’s self-proclaimed omniscience.

Bragging and false autobiography – The narcissist brags incessantly. His speech is peppered with “I”, “my”, “myself”, and “mine”. He describes himself as intelligent, or rich, or modest, or intuitive, or creative – but always excessively, implausibly, and extraordinarily so.

The narcissist’s biography sounds unusually rich and complex. His achievements – incommensurate with his age, education, or renown. Yet, his actual condition is evidently and demonstrably incompatible with his claims. Very often, the narcissist lies or his fantasies are easily discernible. He always name-drops and appropriates other people’s experiences and accomplishments.

the harder he will fall is very true. the pathetic press will turn on him like they did bush. now bush for all his faults was less concered about what we mere mortals thought, but obama is totally dependent on it. how can you be a cool kid, when no one else believes it anymore. think about that.

Stodgie, the sound of silence is all the noise BO can make.oops, the mute button is on

Sorry to inform you , “as your laywer” your words will be held over for trial, pending a review by the FISA court and the outcome of the NSL which you can’t talk about. To make matters worse, your words have been deemed “enemy combatants” and before any thought could be given to releasing them for trial, (to the 2nd circut), they would need to be waterboarded to get the truth out of them.

After that, they will erase all the tapes of the “interviews” like some bad Mission Impossible.

In the end they may end up in a maximum security prison in Montana.

BPoor BO he was born with a silver spoon…in his mouth poop shoot.

(All comments are those of the poster. No inference or claim of sensorship by NQ is meant or intended, however due to being called “Un-American’ this tape will self detruct in 5 nano seconds, (hey technology ok?!))

Has anybody checked to see if BO is using the DNC mail servers and that the White house mail servers are being backed up? Just wondering.

      • Seattle Moss

        Teak,
Obama’s plan is to replace Un-American bloggers with names like Seattle Moss, Teak and Justme with paid obamabots peddling their socialism.
        Sorry… I guess I’m a racist for saying socialist.

I think we are seeing the invasion of the blogger snatchers…That’s what I think could have happened to my friend Justme.

If you’ve been damaged terribly in your personal life by having to live with a narcissist for any length of time, you develop a sixth sense that allows you to recognize them in advance. Since, I had lived with a raging narcissist and had also to deal with his awful narcissistic mother, I got that creepy, skin crawling feeling every time I heard O’s voice or saw him on t.v. I just wanted to run in the opposite direction.

But I also know that if you haven’t had that experience, you can easily be pulled in by a narcissist. It’s also one of their characteristics. They really can seem so charming and nice at first. Then, after being trapped, so to speak, in the narcissist’s web, a person is thrown off guard the first time that charming person does something or says something that makes his victim step back because of some kind of cognitive dissonance. But the poor trapped person first rationalizes that it was just something wrong with him or her, that he or she misunderstood the situation, etc. This goes on for a while until the poor victim just can’t rationalize any more.

That is what’s happening with all those so-called journalists now. People are just finally realizing that they can’t go on rationalizing.

    • Solara 9

Agreed DLC–I know that one the hard way also. The thing that got me was the incrdeible ability to detatch, to see others as mere shadows that were both loved (as in needed) and hated (because they were needed). Emotional vampires.

      • http://deleted BuzzisbackLatte

As a professional that worked with people with mental health and learning issues, I concur.

My radar went immediately to mental health issues the first time I paid attention to Obama last year.

Why aren’t his medical records made “available”, you ask? Guess…

        • Diana L. C.

The Tom Eagleton syndrome, perhaps. Probably not a diagnosis of depression–probably one more serious than that.

He may not be a President, but he plays one on TV.

Unfortunately, he didn’t sleep in a Holiday Inn last night.

I found an article and linked it here the other night about an old 1957 movie called A Face In The Crowd.
It was like someone looked into the future and saw the 2008 election.
The way the press was used and forgot their real job.
How people were fed a line of BS that sounded good.
How the candidate began to believe his own hype.
Yes there was a public meltdown of epic proportions.
If you get a chance to see the movie it is worth the time.

      Hey Helen,
I remember back when you started that phrase. You were wondering back then with all the sexism and misogyny against Hillary if there were any real men left to defend and support the advancement of women in power.
I enjoyed you calling me Bubba back then and I’m still passionate about seeing a Woman become president.

      • helenk

Most of the bubbas I ever knew stood up for what they believed in and did not fall for a lot of BS.
They worked hard, asked for little, and did the job.
They came from all walks of life and understood that life is not a free lunch.
        They earned respect and trust.

Suggested variation on the cartoon – 2 frames
1st frame: Ozero facing a mirror saying “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the best President of them all?”
2nd frame: show the mirror with WJ and HR Clinton’s pictures in it.

    • Pat Racimora

      LOL jwrjr. Love it.

  • Lindy

This whole thing isn’t the least bit funny. When you have “Madame Marie Antoinette” Pelosi saying people are protesting with swasticas, and are downright unAmerican, slurring her words, and Obama in the pics I saw of the Mex conference, where he looked like he had the most sloppy grin and bugged out eyes, either happy and high on drugs or totally insane….I mean if I looked like that I would get arrested for being under the influence of something….even insanity. I think these people are under the influence of major meds (and I have worked all my life in health care, doling out Class III narcotics to people who NEED them). How can anyone overlook Obama’s admitted crack habit, which in my experience is neverending. Seems these people all get script drugs to ease their “pain” and are total “legal” addicts. I think the main problem with all these people is their big time “legal” prescription drug habits. Just my opinion, but I am probably right. Hitler was a well known amphetamine addict. Hitler’s troops were well dosed with amphetamines, to help them fight and kill better. Know your history, know your destiny.

    • Thinker

I think many people were so desperate, you know.

How else can people rationalize voting for an “ex”-crackhead President?? He told people to their faces that he used coke.

Now he admits to being addicted to cigs throughout the entire campaign season, and but has “never smoked in the White House”

Dude has an addictive personality and I don’t doubt for one second that he’s still using drugs.
