Obama’s Media Edge

Rasmussen’s latest poll shows the public largely thinks the media is biased. Also, this report notes that an earlier survey found:

that 30% of voters believe having a friendly reporter is more valuable than raising a lot of campaign contributions. Twenty-nine percent (29%) believe contributions are more important and 40% are not sure.

While older surveys found that the public perceives a liberal bias in news reporting, this survey drilled a little deeper, finding that the public feels Barack Obama (54%) has had the most favorable press while Hillary Clinton has had the worst (43%).

Interestingly or not, depending on your cynicism, 44% of voters feel reporters will try to help Obama, with 13% feeling McCain will get help. Democrats themselves recognize this and 27% of them think reporters will help Obama.

44% of unaffiliated voters feel Obama will get reporters’ help, with 14% thinking McCain will get it; and among Republicans, fully 70% expect Obama to get deference.

    Here’s some more poll results:

Although it’s still very early in the campaign, the latest NBC/WSJ poll has Obama leading McCain 47 to 41. I believe this is the bump that we all expected after the primary wars finally finished. The last poll was in April, which had Obama 46-43, within the margin of error for the poll. What’s really interesting, though, are the ethnic and voter group breakdowns: Obama leads with African Americans 83-7 (7? – geez), Hispanics 62-28, women 52-33, Catholics 47-40, independents 41-36, all women 52-33, and blue collars 47-42. Among Hillary supporters, Obama leads 61-19. Among white men, as you can imagine, McCain leads 55-35 as he does with soccer moms at 44-38. Among the respondents, 54 to 30 say that they believe Obama will win the election.

Another interesting fact is that if you add Hillary to the ticket, he picks up 3 additional points over McCain/Romney.

This is for everyone here who have loved and voted for Bill and Hillary Clinton for years. There is a thread running through posts by Obama’s supporters. It goes something like this; you were never a Democrat or you would never think about voting for John McCain. If he is elected, there will be a hundred years of war, the economy will collapse and the biggest stick of all? We will lose Roe V Wade. Every election year we have heard it and every year we have walked precincts, donated money, made phone calls and voted for Democrats to avoid the calamity that is the Republican Party and every election but three, in the last ten elections, we have seen Republicans take the oath of office.

How many watched the Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting Saturday, May 31, 2008? How many saw them spit in the face of two people who have dedicated their lives to public service and the Democratic Party? Have you asked yourselves why the RBC would refuse to seat all delegates from Florida and Michigan for the unity of the party given the fact it wouldn’t have changed the outcome. They had decided long ago to use the superdelegates to decide the nominee. And in spite of the repeated statements of one Donna Brazil she would leave the party if that happened, she is still there. Has anyone been able to find out why they awarded four of Hillary’s delegates to Obama?

Further, does anyone understand why an article appeared in the Vanity Fair Magazine about Bill Clinton without a single named source a few days before the last primaries which were predicted to be won by Obama and one of which he lost by a large margin? Is it possible they wanted the final numbers to look more impressive? Have you asked yourselves why, after more than fifteen years, Jennifer Flowers and Paula Jones have decided to make a video describing their encounters with Pres. Clinton with the gigantic price of two dollars a piece? Does anyone know if they were paid to do this? You and I know what the media has done to Hillary and so do the naysayer no matter their protestations.

Why have members of the Democratic Party allowed some of its members who support Obama to ask a candidate to leave the race and members of the media to use the full force of their positions to do so as well, beginning with Jonathan Alter in Newsweek magazine before the primaries in Ohio and Texas? And why have certain members of the media been forced to apologize time after time for improper and untrue statements only to go back and take up where they left off.

Has anyone in our “free press” questioned why the speaker of the house, senate majority leader and the Chairman of the DNC have been allowed to inject their opinions when it is traditionally forbidden they do so? Can someone tell me why the City of Gary, Indiana, a moderate town of 300,000, took eight hours to report the result of the vote? And why is it a senator stated publicly the results were suspicious and there has been nothing said of a recount?

Why is it that our Democratic Party (my former as of last Monday) has been unable to investigate voting irregularities in different states, but especially Texas where people are allowed to vote twice? Lack of funds, time, interest or intimidation?

I have a theory, for what it’s worth and it isn’t about Barack Obama. The Democratic Party didn’t just want to defeat Hillary Clinton in this election. They want to completely destroy any influence the Clintons have now or in the future and that includes personal destruction. Dean, Pelosi, Brazil et al are insane of course. They have set the fire which will ultimately result in a system with one party. We, supporters of the Clintons, along with unhappy Republicans, have no where to go. Just as the Internet is slowly closing its door to dissent,. Every place we can meet for discourse is being contaminated. I have no proof of this, but I believe moveon.gog is responsible for much of this. They are technically savvy and they raise a lot of money.

Two observable things. In 2006 the Democrats gained a majority in the senate and house. Though moveon.org claims to be nonpartisan, it probably was made easier for the Democrats by their intervention. One of the first pronouncements by the speaker of the house was, “Impeachment is off the table.” Bush has been a lame duck president for over a year, yet the Democrats have failed to do anything but put up token resistance to funding the war, passage of the second Patriot Act and nothing on repeal of the odious Military Commissions Act. Bush has managed to centralize power in the executive office more than any president has dared to do. Will a Democratic president give that power back to the other branches of government? Doubtful.

During the protests of the sixties and seventies, underground newspapers sprung up because the government and press were not trusted. Watching any cable news show is a waste of time now. There is nothing but propaganda and it distracts from the real issues. Trying to communicate on most blogs is an exercise in futility and the end blurs the truth.

There is one more thing I would like to point out. Very early in this election cycle, exit polls were wrong and they have been wrong consistently. According to Charlie Cook, they are a combination of surveys filled out by voters who have just voted and the most recent polling conducted before Election Day. There is no way to validate the answers given in the survey. For example, anyone on this site can create a profile which is entirely fictitious and bears no resemblance to the truth. It is the same with the exit poll surveys. We have been told by members or pundits on the cable news channels, wealthier, more educated people supported Obama and a certain number of voters said race had influenced their vote. These repeated pronouncements by Bill Schneider, Wolf Blitzer, Keith Olbermann and the rest are blindly believed by the population and it has become a self fulfilling prophecy in many ways.

But, I have read many blogs in the last few months and I have found Sen. Clinton’s supporters present their case logically and are well informed where many Obama supporters simply repeat what they have heard from the biased media or complete trust in the words of other Obama supporters or his website..

We need to organize and determine a place where all can meet for news or consolation. We need to agree not to engage Obama supporters no matter how tempting it is. This is not over even after the convention in Denver. We need to organize boycotts and protests. We may even at some point, need to establish a third party. I have not given up on Hillary and she is not going away. I read somewhere about a Supreme Court nomination and though some might like to silence her voice, that won’t happen.

    Here’s more poll results:
WSJ/NBC Poll Shows Change Trumps Experience

Susan Davis reports on the presidential race.

The latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll results will be released later today, but an early teaser offers a snapshot on how voters are sizing up the John McCain-Barack Obama contest.

Asked to respond to two statements, 59% of voters said they believed “This is a time to have a president who will focus on progress and help move America forward,” while 37% of voters favored the statement, “This is a time to have a president who will focus on protecting what has made America great.” Just 4% said they weren’t sure.

What’s more, 54% said the statement that “This is a time when it is important to look for a person who will bring greater changes to the current policies even if he is less experienced and tested,” identified more with their personal view, while 42% said the statement that “This is a time when it is important to look for a more experienced and tested person even if he brings fewer changes to the current policies,” was more in line with their view of the race.

” When members of my party refused to compromise not on principle but for partisanship, I have sought to do so. When I fought corruption it didn’t matter to me if the culprits were Democrats or Republicans. I exposed it and let the chips fall where they may. When I worked on campaign finance and ethics reform, I did so with Democrats and Republicans, even though we were criticized by other members of our parties, who preferred to keep things as they were. I have never refused to work with Democrats simply for the sake of partisanship. I’ve always known we belong to different parties, not different countries. We are Americans before we are anything else.

I don’t seek the presidency on the presumption I’m blessed with such personal greatness that history has anointed me to save my country in its hour of need. I seek the office with the humility of a man who cannot forget my country saved me. I’ll reach out my hand to anyone, Republican or Democrat, who will help me change what needs to be changed; fix what needs to be fixed; and give this country a government as capable and good as the people it is supposed to serve. There is a time to campaign, and a time to govern. If I’m elected President, the era of the permanent campaign of the last sixteen years will end. The era of reform and problem solving will begin. From my first day in office, I’ll work with anyone to make America safe, prosperous and proud. And I won’t care who gets the credit as long as America gets the benefit.

I have seen Republicans and Democrats achieve great things together. When the stakes were high and it mattered most, I’ve seen them work together in common purpose, as we did in the weeks after September 11th. This kind of cooperation has made all the difference at crucial turns in our history. It has given us hope in difficult times. It has moved America forward. And that, my friends, is the kind of change we need right now. ” -John McCain

On October 24, 2007, Obama announced the launch of African Americans for Obama in Nevada, featuring Floyd Mayweather, the International Welterweight Boxing Champion, in a free event in Las Vegas.[1]

    [edit]Controversy: Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
However, John Aravosis of AMERICAblog wrote the following on October 24, 2007, about Floyd Mayweather, Jr.[2][3]:[4]

“In 2004, Mayweather was convicted on two counts of battery for punching two women at a Las Vegas nightclub the previous year. He was given suspended prison sentences, $1,000 in fines and ordered to complete impulse control counseling.

“Mayweather in 2002 pleaded guilty to two counts of domestic violence in one case and battery in another. In 2005, a jury acquitted him of a third domestic violence charge, a felony, after his accuser changed her story. He reportedly was convicted of battery in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Mich., and he has also been the subject of civil lawsuits accusing him of battery.”[5]

Update [2005-9-30 10:38:41 by Armando]: From the diaries by Armando. Since it is not our normal practice to promote diaries from our representatives, I think I should explain why I chose to promote Senator Obama’s diary. Simply put, Sen. Obama’s diary addresses in substance an issue that has been a major focus of discussion in our community. Given the source, the topic and the specific thoughts, and the discussion sure to ensue, it is my judgment that promotion was the right thing to do.

The Co-Chairs of University of Iowa Students for Hillary have just sent out a Facebook message imploring the group’s members to vote for John McCain — or, if that’s too hard to stomach, presumptive Green Party nominee Cynthia McKinney.

It’s unclear, to say the least, how many of the group’s members will listen.

The author, Cody Eliff, has long been disdainful of Obama. He talked to Ben in December after he went to the comments section of Hillaryis44.com, a blog and hub for Clinton die-hards, to boast about anti-Obama talking points that he created.

The letter attacks the media, Obama campaign workers in Iowa, and Obama, and claims Obama didn’t actually win the nomination but was “appointed by the Rules and Bylaws Committee of the DNC.”

  • JoseyJ

I would never vote for a candidate indoctrinated with white supremacism or Black Liberation Theology!
Voting for Obama would be comparable to voting for David Duke.

    Obama/Wright08

  • Hank

I don’t care what McCain does. I’m still voting for him. Just like Obama doesn’t care.

  • Hope Floats

I missed that! There have been a million indications that He-Who-Shall-Remain-Nameless-But-Is-Not-A-Muslim is full of shit when it comes to Iraq, but it must have been good if it incurred such wrath.

  • Doomandgloom

Okay, a couple quick points not really related to this specific topic (the new topics have disappeared!).

One, as far as stolen cyber identities, I’ve been victim to that also and I’m an Obama supporter (and no, not a “paid troll” as is the mantra of one of the more obnoxious bloggers here. Seriously, some of you give Obama omniscient supernatural powers which winds up deflating your stronger points and making you look silly). Several times I’ve had Hillary people (presumably) assume my regular name and say savory things like “Hello, I like to take it up the ass by Barack Obama.” Now, is that fair?? That’s why I’ve had to change names a couple times.

Secondly, I don’t watch television, in fact refuse to subscribe to cable and highly recommend it to others–it instantly improves your mental health–so I was not privy to some of the sexism many of you have pointed out in the MSM’s primary coverage. So, when I was first brought to this site (due to “whitey tape” rumors), I honestly had no idea what you were talking about. Based on the newspapers, magazines, websites and non-commercial radio (Democracy Now and NPR primarily) I consume everyday, I thought if anything the Clintons were playing into racial anxieties white America was having about Obama. Even Rush Limbaugh, whom I’ve listened to since I was a kid, just to know what I’m arguing against, was very early on in the tank for Obama and pointed out instances where the Clintons were being racist. However, after reading the blogs here and elsewhere, I checked out some youtube MSM clips and did in fact find some instances where individual MSM reporters made comments about Hillary which could be construed as sexist, and I should say here that I am a woman who studied Sociology in college with a minor in Women’s Studies and that I come from a VERY working-class background. I also observed many instances where MSM reporters could be construed as making racist comments, the point being that the way in which one views the MSM depends entirely on the sociopolitical lens through which one is looking.

I won’t rehash all the reasons I voted for Obama over Clinton here, but I do have one lingering question for some of you who seem to reject Obama exclusively for what you see as his deviant masterminding of every whiff of sexism in this primary. That is, how can you support Hillary, give her a free pass, after she stood by the most reckless and publicly sexist president we have ever had, and that’s saying a lot when you take JFK into account?? I can tell you that she lost a lot of my respect back then, the way in which she failed to rise to the defense of her husband’s TRUE VICTIMS, particularly a young, needy intern named Monica Lewinsky. She called her a bimbo for chrissakes, and more importantly, allowed the same MSM she is crying foul against now to ridicule and lambast a 24 year old to the point that her name will forever be the punchline of a bad bar joke while her husband gets to call Obama a sexist. And I’m curious, where were you all when Lewisky was being assassinated at the age of 24, being called vile, despicable names much worse than anything launched at Hillary Clinton during this primary??? I’m genuinely interested in any responses.

While older surveys found that the public perceives a liberal bias in news reporting, this survey drilled a little deeper, finding that the public feels Barack Obama (54%) has had the most favorable press while Hillary Clinton has had the worst (43%).

Usually, you see a rough balance in people’s perception, with one group that think the media are biased to the left and another group of roughly the same size that find they are biased to the right. In recent years, the former group has been bigger, but not by so much. Liberals tend to see conservative bias, and conservatives liberal bias. In 2000, Democrats thought the media were unfair to Gore and Republicans thought they were unfair to Bush. People tend to think the media is biased against their own views.

This seems unprecedented, that a majority thinks that Obama has gotten better press. One thing to take away from this survey is that people don’t immediately accept the media slant.

  • ginaswo

we are CLINGING to DEMOCRACY BABY

    get used to it…

Maybe our kids will look like Janet Reno! LMAO Obamalosers. I got a man, and he’s voting for Hillary, too!

Wow, grow up. Don’t get mad, go get your glass of Koolaid refilled. Are u upset, why did you blog twice.

  • Doomandgloom

I agree with you bluesky, but one thing I think people are forgetting is that consistenly in exit polling, Clinton was seen by supporters and opponents has having run a more negative campaign. Why doesn’t anyone talk about that here?

    Credit Suisse losses

The Swiss bank, Credit Suisse, has announced that it made a loss of more than two billion dollars in the first quarter of the year. The losses were due to problems in international credit markets. Our Economics Correspondent Andrew Walker reports:

    Listen to the story
Much of the bank’s business was profitable. But a loss of five billion dollars in the credit markets – following three billion dollars last year – pushed Credit Suisse into the red overall. Some of the losses were on financial assets related to the American housing market. But the bank also lost money on commercial property and loans to finance company takeovers.
Credit Suisse is in good company. Its bigger rival in Switzerland, UBS, has made even larger losses in the credit markets and has twice sought extra capital – from its own shareholders and from outside investors – to make good the losses.

The British bank RBS has recently announced credit related losses of 12 billion dollars for this year. Many American banks have also been severely affected.

Labor Day’s still a long ways aways, and that’s when most middle-of-the-road voters actually bother with the election. I wonder what would happen, if we went to war with Iran before September? Think anyone would trust Barky with our military? I bet those polls would look very different.

Nah-actually GWB & the Cabinet would f*ck up so bad people would do anything rather than vote GOP. And it would remind them about the 4000+ casualties. Unless McCain actually prevented another catastrophe.

Oh, okay, classic blame the woman, Hope. Got it. Bill can bang anything not nailed down WHILE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, blame the media, Hillary calls the women tramps and stands by her man but Obama’s a flagrant sexist for calling a reporter sweetheart????!!! Clearly, we are all biased…

At the time I called it State Rape. Ken Starr did a job on her.

She does deserve the sadder-but-wiser award for the most extravagant youthful folly of the 20th century tho. She had no idea what she was caught up in.

I hoped she would go to law school. Doing well is the best revenge.

    Why do you ask, sweetie?

geez, that is the fouth blog you’ve type the same insult tonight. the trolls are really getting dumber. do they pick them up off the street and give them a paper with quotes of use? yeah, they do.

  • http://www.justaintright.blogspot.com HelenWheels

Well, part of the reason I can have such a hearty laugh is watching all you racists try to blame you Obama hate on something else. Your I.Q. isn’t high enough to appreciate it; you may want to go back to your trailer and think things over. But I really doubt that will happen. Been to any good KKK meetings lately?

I find it interesting that you all argue Hillary should get the feminist vote, then you make really skeezy misogynistic comments like this. My guess is, if Hillary is indeed a feminist, she would take offense. Live in a parallel universe much? Got cognitive dissonance? My guess? YES. Hilarious.

  • http://www.http://unityindiversity-spiritedpolitics.blogspot.com jmk

Of course she was SEEN as running a more negative campaign, moron. Duh. that’s the image that the paid off MSM obama freaks put out. And how stupid do you think we are, a hole? You never watch TV but you keep track of their polls on how people who do watch them perceive candidates? And then you believe those polls.

Go away. You are not wanted. Collect your pay and lie, like your boss, and tell him you were here and how we loved you and worshipped you and how clever you were and how you fooled us all – especially with your streak of genius diversion of bringing up unrelated old dirt on your opponent’s husband.

If you think a few blow jobs are the peak of mysogny then you don’t know you boss man very well. Go check out the records on his father routinely beating his later wife – the African one who is still living. Oooops, that wouldn’t be relevant. Genetics are as meaningless as guilt by association.

    Sicko, go get a life.

WILL ANYONE ELSE HERE PLEASE NOTICE THAT we could have had a valuable discussion about the present and future if not diverted by the podman – just as he intended.

    Good night.

  • http://www.justaintright.blogspot.com HelenWheels

Yeah. Isn’t it frustrating? NO M.O. “whitey” video plus gas prices escalating?! OMG! Guess what… pssst… shhhh it’s OBAMA’S fault! Sure, he’s not in power yet but you can bet it’s his fault that people are getting tossed out of their homes & foreclosures abound, the middle class is disappearing, the dollar is tanking, global warming is causing record floods and heatwaves, food is tainted like never before, our infrastructure is crumbling, there are billions of dollars going into failed wars in Afghanistan & Iraq, the world sees the US as a big bully, health care is a joke, veterans are treated like crap, our air & earth is polluted, and there are more “dead spots” in the ocean as never before, all things that escalated in the past 8 years but some that started with Reagan “trickle down” (e.g. pissed on) economics 30 years ago.

Oh wait, it’s not Obama’s campaign that did all this at all! *GASP* It’s the idiots in the WhiteHouse now! BUt….but.. they are *winning* the war on terror! So how could THAT be?

Earth to idiots: A war on “terror” is impossible. It’s as doable as a war on decency or a war on beauty or a war on ugliness. It’s impossible and only a moron believes it.

I expect lots of comments to the effect: go away you don’t love Hilary and we win troll! LOL!

    That’s great, Mark.

  • http://www.justaintright.blogspot.com HelenWheels

WHoa. Are you crazy? did they state when they donated that they liked Obama because he’s black? WTF? Have you ever donated to a white candidate? STFU.

  • elise

He was absent for the Kyl Lieberman Resolution also.
He said he was campaigning. He has never taken a position on whether or not the Quds should have been labeled a terrorist organization, but that hasn’t stopped him from criticizing Hillary Clinton’s vote.

  • http://www.justaintright.blogspot.com HelenWheels

So, lemme get this straight. So, if I have a, let’s say, online site where anyone can donate, like every candidate has, with the fill out thing & all that. And a person, let’s say, Jack the Ripper, decides “hey! Il ike that candidate for whatever reason, and I’d LOVE to donate to his/her cause!” So, Jack the Ripper fills out the form, puts the MasterCard info in just so, and hits “SEND”. NOW, his murdering beliefs belong to that candidate’s!

Thank you so much for clarifying that. I had NO idea that was how it worked. IN the future, whoever donates to ANY campaign immediately tells me what the goal of that campaign is, no matter who is running and what they say!

Oh that makes things sooo easy!!!

  • campingoutindenver

Yah, I feel liberated by Christianity every time I have cramps and have to hear the shit in my head that Eve at the fucking apple.

  • http://www.justaintright.blogspot.com HelenWheels

I agree that anyone who ever knew Obama and goes to jail should immediately mean that Obama goes to jail and can’t run for president. That makes lots of really logicalistic sense.

    LOL!!!

  • http://www.justaintright.blogspot.com HelenWheels

SNiff. Get help, Hank. None of the candidates care about you, personally. Or is that news? geez you people are pathetic. OH but I forgot neocon nuts don’t like “therapy” so you just wallow in your weird psychoses. Good luck w/that.

  • http://deleted AnninCa

I think it’s simple judgmentalism on your part regarding Hillary’s decision to stay in her marriage. I’m old enough and was married a very long time and know that each of us must make some tough decisions in any marriage as to what path to take.

I’m always amazed at women who claim to be feminists who bring this topic up. Frankly, it’s just being a busybody.

  • http://www.justaintright.blogspot.com HelenWheels

I find it interesting that the same crowd who claims folks who voted against Hillary were anti-feminists or misogynists call people “bitches”. Hmmmm. My guess is, there is some disingenuousness going on.

  • http://www.justaintright.blogspot.com HelenWheels

OOh more racism. Keep ‘em coming, I too save them for my blog. That was a keeper!!

  • campingoutindenver

We are not voting for Obama.

    You’re violating the blog rules.

  • http://www.justaintright.blogspot.com HelenWheels

Once I publish all the racist comments up here in her name, and I will, because you all can’t resist making them, and send them to the press, I suspect things will backfire… probably NOT just a tad. I already have a boatload of “Brown” and “Kunta Kinte” comments from up here (and those are the mild ones). That ought to look good if Hillary is behind this site, eh? Well. I’m not surprised she’d pay Larry to shill for her; I’m just surprised what he’d stand behind, which is blatant racism and giving voice to such imbecillic vitriol. All I had to do was tell it like it is, and just look at what I’ve reaped. You people are suckers. It might be a good think for Larry if 2 days got deleted because man, when this data gets out it might really further hurt Hillary’s cause.

Talk about not very smart. Sheesh.

  • HillaryDidWin

Straight out of the Obama playbook..if your not for obama..your a RACIST…you peeps need some new material cause that line is getting old..btw…Obama is half white..you know..the part you all try to ignore..he is mixed race, not the first Black NOM..it is in fact..the first Mixed Race NOM!! Stop throwing the race card..it has lost it’s meaning!!

  • http://www.justaintright.blogspot.com HelenWheels

Well, I may not fit into THOSE groups you mentioned, but I DO fit into groups that aren’t bigots, misogynists and racists, I’m happy to say!

  • elise

They actually met while he was still in law school. There is an interesting article here and I’m not sure if you can pull it up, but go to Rezkowatch and click the first line.

I’m not sure how Obama is involved, but this video shocked me. It is from 2004 while he was still in the Illinois State Senate and I’ve never seen it before. It was posted on Youtube, but isn’t there any more. It repudiates his position on Iraq in his own words. It is a really bizarre example of his duplicity.

I wasn’t able to move it here, but maybe Larry can.

    http://rezkowatch.blogspot.com/

Just one question. Do you believe the exit polls and do you remember when you first heard those remarks about Hillary Clinton? Guess that’s two questions. sorry
