Just another example from NPR today; although I know by now that this is the DNC/White House’s “strategy,” I still go ballistic every time I hear it:

Talk of the Nation program on NPR. Caller calls in and says something to the effect of: “I talk with lots of farmers every day and they are opposed to this health care legislation because they don’t like the idea of the government getting so involved. Farmers are traditionally very independent and take the idea of personal responsibility very seriously.”

The “moderator” (and I use the term loosely, more like the “biased media Obama spokesperson”) then turns to the flavor-of-the-day “only-the-government-can-solve-our-complex-problems” professor who says (and I kid you not): “Well, you know, a lot of these white rural males are members of these dangerous right-wing militias – not I’m not saying that all farmers are members of these militias – but, you know, these white rural males are very angry that we have elected an African-American as President of the United States.”

Once I stopped screaming at the radio, the biased media Obama spokesperson said she had some “expert” on the line from Chicago; a female who intoned: “Well, of course, we do have to acknowledge that there is some concern about moving toward universal health care, but we are talking about those people who are angry and furious that we have a person of color in the White House….” She went on and on about how all the anger is “racist” in origin and orientation, without one shred of evidence.

Will someone out there please, please tell me that this strategy is going to backfire and that good, well-meaning, open-minded, color-blind, average, nice Americans are no longer going to put up being labeled “racist” simply because they oppose somebody’s policies.

I come here for solace and a little sanity-check as I did during the election; then when I’m thrown back out into the big bad world that has now become “official America,” I continue to suffer shock after shock as to what’s happening in this country.

Well, most of my male relatives, including my father, were white male farmers. Many of my cousins still are. I will have to be more careful at family reunions since I never once suspected their membership in right-wing militias. They also hid pretty darned well their obvious racist tendencies.

But I do have to admit that they couldn’t afford much insurance, being farmers and working for themselves. Most of the time, the women folk would have to drag them kicking and screaming to visit a doctor, and our doctor was one of the old breed. WASHINGTON — People are flooding members of Congress with so many e-mails that they are overloading the House’s primary Web site.

Capitol Hill technical support issued a warning Thursday to House lawmakers that the Web site may be slow or unresponsive because of the large volume of e-mail being sent to members.

Our family has gone the HSA (Health Savings Account) route. It’s affordable and doesn’t require deposits into the savings account (although that’s where the tax benefit lies). More people should be aware of this option. And there should be more in the way of HSA-type products for consumers.

My feeling is healthcare reform, in addition to what this op-ed talks about, should mainly focus on helping the working poor who nevertheless earn too much to qualify for Medicaid. Perhaps public clinics or even incentives to create private clinics that provide affordable primary care would help with access. But before government takes on the task of providing any more healthcare, it should first clean up problems and waste within its existing programs.

Not long after Obama arrived, he sat down for a cup of coffee in Hyde Park with a fellow organizer named Mike Kruglik. Obama’s work focused on helping poor blacks on Chicago’s South Side fight the city for things like job banks and asbestos removal. His teachers were schooled in a style of organizing devised by Saul Alinsky, the radical University of Chicago-trained social scientist. At the heart of the Alinsky method is the concept of “agitation”– making someone angry enough about the rotten state of his life that he agrees to take action to change it; or, as Alinsky himself described the job, to “rub raw the sores of discontent.”

Kruglik remembers this episode as an example of why, in ten years of training organizers, Obama was the best student he ever had. He was a natural, the undisputed master of agitation, who could engage a room full of recruiting targets in a rapid-fire Socratic dialogue, nudging them to admit that they were not living up to their own standards. As with the panhandler, he could be aggressive and confrontational. With probing, sometimes personal questions, he would pinpoint the source of pain in their lives, tearing down their egos just enough before dangling a carrot of hope that they could make things better.

My highly respected Democrat Congressman came home, attended a public Meeting and said He was glad the helath care bill wasn’t voted on before the August Break because Members of Congress need to hear from thier Constituents..

He also said he would not sign it, if the bill does not pay its own way..and is revenue Neuteral..and the CBO says it is..

He also says that Medicare reimbursements to States have to more Equal…Washington doctors for example get Far less distribution than thier Texas counterparts..

Ah..The XK140..Theres a Classic…was yours a convertible or hardtop..?

Front reminds me a little of the TRIUMPH and the Back of My Old Austin Healy 3000KL..

My father bought it for $2000 back in 75 and was my first car. My father restored the car and made a pretty penny on the deal.

Later I bought a Firebird 400 with ram air which furthered my image with the girls.
