Are Your Representatives Chickening Out? UPDATED

(bumped up from early afternoon)

See the Update about how many of our Elected Officials will/not be holding Town Hall Forums at the bottom of the page.

Friend to NQ, Kathleen Wynne from HandCountPaperallotsNow made a suggestion after seeing the negative spin the MSM is putting on reports of concerned citizens calling out their representatives on the issue of health care reform, even if all they want is for them to READ the damn thing. Here are some of her suggestions:

After watching the reporting by the usual suspects in the media, who are turning these protests into orchestrated, manufactured outrage, it’s clear that having a number of town hall meetings where those reps either chose not to participate in one or who chose to have a conference call instead, will help prove that they are merely trying to discredit these protests and undermine the citizens true feelings about the health care legislation. Or how Senator Boxer ridiculed citizens voicing their concerns as trying to “hurt our president” and too well dressed for this NOT to be orchestrated

:

Another point that should be put out there for all to see is that during the primary and general election, it was Obama, himself, who told his supporters to have debates with those who did not support him and “get in their face.” Here is a reminder of Obama saying that, along with some other actions by his supporters

:

More importantly, we want citizens to realize how important it is for them to participate in democracy and recognize how important they are in making these reps accountable and to expose their total indifference to the citizens’ concern, not to mention their total lack of knowledge of exactly what’s in the bill. This is a pivotal moment to increase citizen involvement in “taking to the streets” and keeping the pressure on. The longer citizens stay engaged in these protests, the less the MSM can dismiss them as “astro turf” (i.e., not real grassroots concerns), as Nancy Pelosi refers to them in this clip

:

Ms. Wynne is:

asking citizens in those towns where the representatives have chosen NOT to have a town hall meeting or worse, canceled them, to “BE THE MEDIA” by organizing and conducting town hall meetings themselves and having a public discussion about what they don’t like about the health-care bill and any of the other bills that have been rammed down our throats and videotape the event. In particular, they should make it clear that they are having the town hall meeting despite their representative’s choice to not have one or to cancel one. That should be made clear at the beginning, and then say that they would not be silenced.

Then request that clips of these events be sent to NQ, here, and other websites of their choosing in order to make the people’s outrage at not being listened to be seen and heard by other citizens, so that we know that this isn’t just a group of fringe groups being sent out to disrupt town hall meetings.*

It’s an end-run around the MSM’s attempt to ignore and not report what the people are really feeling about the Obama Administration’s policies.

Now word is coming that unions are being sent in to counter those who oppose this plan. And videos are already rolling in, including footage of union members (SEIU) getting into it with Tea Party protesters.

This is our country, and we have every right to speak out, to dissent, to question. And we have the right to speak out without fear of harassment, violence, or intimidation by those in power or their surrogates. We have the right to demand accountability of those whom we have elected to represent us, and that they REPRESENT US. That is their job, after all.

So, are you game? If so, feel free to send this post to whatever sites you frequent, and let’s get this thing rolling.

UPDATE: Check out how many of our elected officials are NOT meeting with their constituents:

  • http://www.hillaryorbust.com Hillary or Bust

I campaigned for Boxer back in the early 90s. I still have my yellow and black Boxer t-shirt I got from volunteering!

I am sorry to say I will be voting against Boxer in 2010. She’s been in office too long; and her words in that interview anger me so much I will never vote for her again. I might have voted for her despite her support of Obama, but that clip put a nail in the Boxer coffin for me.

    http://twitter.com/hillaryorbust

  • helenk

    Hillary or Bust
i have not heard of anyone other than Chuck DeVore running against her. I do hope that someone a little more moderate will stand up and run against her as I refuse to vote for her again.

WOMEN WITH INTELLIGENCE AND EXPERIENCE,MEN WHO SUPPORT THEM AND COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS

    PUMAS,BUBBAS,EQUALISTS AND THOSE PEOPLE RULE

    http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections2/election_2010/election_2010_senate_elections/california/election_2010_california_senate

    Fiore 41%
    Boxer 45%

Under 50% for an incumbant is the danger zone. Let’s hope this pans out because Boxer and her super inflated ego needs to be sent into retirement. I hope Boxer has her Waterloo moment.

  • oowawa

I campaigned for Boxer back in the early 90s. I still have my yellow and black Boxer t-shirt I got from volunteering!

I also campaigned for Boxer back in the early 90s (true). I’m still wearing the unwashed black and yellow boxer shorts I wore back then while volunteering. I’m thinking of sending them to her to let her know what I think of her leadership lately.

    (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)

  • Peggy Sue

No one has to try to hurt the President. He’s doing a fine job of that himself, aided and abetted by the likes of Boxer and Pelosi.

The Administration is deliberately looking for a scapegoat for their own miserable performance in selling the message on healthcare, providing any leadership and making blatantly false statements. I think the hope is that as long as the focus is on the “lunatic fringe, the Mob, and/or American, gun-toting terrorists,” the electorate will stop demanding substantial answers about how this legislation will lower costs, maintain quality care and provide as many Americans with coverage that we can afford without bankrupting the Nation.

But it’s hard for Reps to do that when they don’t know themselves. I think people demanding our representatives Read the Bills before they sign them is rather modest.

I suspect there’s distraction going from both sides of the aisle. But the Dems can’t claim to be innocent in the shell game. And the more they blame the American public, the more enraged people become.

And this is what happens when there’s no single leader standing at the helm with a clear and convincing argument.

    What a disaster!

Is there something wrong with this site? Seems like the number of posts is down and things are going into the spam machine.

I know it’s not just me because I saw some other people saying theirs got eaten too.

Will try this, sorry for the OT This came in an email today. Do not know if it is true or not, but it came froma relative.

This Sunday Fox news, is going to air a very important documentary about Barack Obama, Sunday night at 8:00 PM central / 9 PM Eastern.
The report will go back to Obama’s earlier days, showing even then his close ties to radical Marxist professors, friends, spiritual advisers, etc. It will also reveal detail his ties to Rev. Wright for 20+ yrs. How he was participating with this man, and not for the reasons he states!
The report has uncovered more of Obama’s radical past and we will see things that no one in the media is willing to put out there. It will be a segment to remember.
Mark your calendar and pass this on to everyone you know: Sunday night, 8 PM. CT; 9 PM ET. Democrat or Republican, this report will open your eyes to how YOUR country is being sold down the road to Totalitarian Socialism. If you care about the direction of our country, pass this notice on to everyone you know.

  • http://www.hillaryorbust.com Hillary or Bust

Let’s hope it’s Carly Fiorina who runs against her.

Unfortunately, I think I will have to vote for whatever Republican runs against Boxer if just to stop Obama from having a rubber-stamp Congress. Had Boxer given me reason to vote FOR her I might still have, but this video gives me no reason to support her anymore.

  • b mathews

i read that obama is now trying to push thru a bill to create a private national army. could the healthcare issue be a distraction until he gets his private militia. why does he need this? to stop dissent from those who oppose him? he’s already called out his goons to disrupt townhall meetings and shut the dissenters up. maybe trying to scare the american public from speaking up and just quietly go along with whatever he wants. we MUST stay vigilant!!

  • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

ROTFLMAO…Oh, oowawa, you are too funny!

And Hillary or Bust, I hear ya. I really liked her, too. Though I don’t live in CA, I have contributed to her campaign.

But yeah, when she said this juvenile crap abt how people wanting answers were trying “to hurt our president,” I lost even more respect for her (like her upbraiding a general with a storied career for using the respectful terms military personnel USE, “ma’am”). When she decided to drink the Kool Aide, she mainlined it…

  • PamFlorida

    From Florida –
Sen. Bill Nelson (D) has not scheduled any meetings, although his offices continue to obfuscate as to whether he will. They say, “Go to his website”.

Rep. Robert Wexler (D) will be a “featured speaker” (according to his Boca Raton office) at a health care meeting held by a very friendly organization called the Florida Alliance for Retired Americans. As of this date, there is no mention of this meeting on his website nor is his name mentioned on the website of the aforementioned organization.

  • EWard

    Great post!

McNerney (Bay Area) had a “telephone” townhall meeting with George Miller. Close to 8,000 people joined in. I’m going to say it. These men are cowards. They are a rubberstamp for Pelosi and Obama.

FYI, Pres. Clinton is on record at the NetRoots convention slamming the Reps and promoting Obama’s HC lies. I don’t give a darn if Clinton brought home the two journalists from N. Korea, but now he’s on the “wrong side” of the government. The hell with the Clintons.

  • Texas Playwright

bho the fraud, his puppet masters and his sycophants in and out of Congress are a bunch of weenies. They like to lie, cheat, steal, bully and intimidate to “win” office, or in bho the fraud’s case, to squat in OUR WH, yet they are so scared of We the People that they can’t live through the righteous, raucous anger of ordinary Americans.

Democracy is hard work. It’s about time we stood up and hollered for it after 8 1/2 years and counting of corrupt D.C. politicians in Congress and two empty suits at 1600 PA Ave.

  • Daisy Mae

It could be worse, and it is. My Rep. in NM (Ben Ray Lujan) was hand picked by his daddy. Daddy being the Speaker of the House. I’m not even sure my Rep. can read the HR bill. No townhalls here–Sens. Bingaman and Udall also don’t do that sort of icky thing with real people.

Was a Dim., now an Indie. It’s my duty to vote them all out next time.

  • http://firefox Martha Washington Collier

We have the same situation here in Monterey County. Sam (Rubberstamp) Farr inherited his seat from daddy, Fred. Sam had our town hall meeting lined up way ahead of time with 2/3 of the room, his supporters; opponents in the back and in the “overflow” room off camera. People in the front rows all had supportive signs. Also the only signs outside shown on the local news were in support.

They will be surprised when it turns out that they have been singing to the choir all this time and ignoring that there’s a opposition.

  • getfitnow

Same here. I understand she had time for a book signing event.

  • Scout

“And this is what happens when there’s no single leader standing at the helm with a clear and convincing argument.”

And who might that have been……oh, yeah, Hillary.

  • Scout

do you have a link to the “private national army” source?

  • TeakWoodKite

b, Link on the Blackwater look alike?

  • Peggy Sue

Exactly, Scout. I’m sure she would have hit an absolute firestorm from the opposition. But I have no doubt that she could have seized the message and made a strong, clear argument. And she would not have outsourced the particulars to a lame and overly politicized House.

This is one of many subjects, Hillary Clinton knows inside out.

And now we have this–no health care reform at all or something that looks that a twisted sister, which will cost the public beaucoup $ with very little in real reform and much bad will spread everywhere.

    Makes me absolutely furious!

  • WMCB

Scout, I don’t know if you are still around, but I’m doing a three-part series on healthcare from the perspective of providers, over at The Confluence. I did the first installment here, if you are interested:

Heath Shuler, blue dog from western north carolina, is only having two tele town halls. One was last night; I boycotted it. You had to ask our question via an aid who would decide if he would forward on to shuler. He is a coward; I said that to his office last week and they hung up on me. He will never get re-elected unless there is massive voter fraud; this is a traditional GOP district and he is the first, and I will have to say last, Dem to get elected in a million years. He voted for cap and trade against the wishes of his constitutents and his reasons for not currently supporting the death bill are very weak: too expensive and not enough wellness stuff? We expect him to roll over and vote for it unless he gets the ok from Pelosi to pretend he supports his constitutents. He is a big fraud.

  • HARP

I`m waiting for the Democrats to finally lose all sense of reality and expand their program by turning in Grandma and Grandpa to the local ER.

They can slip it in under “cash for clunkers”.

  • oowawa

Well, HARP, I’ve seen what happens to those old cars in the “Cash for Clunkers” program, and I don’t think I want to participate. Besides, old broken down Grandma and Grandpa have been raising the grandkids for the past 12 years–cashing us in at the ER might not be such a good idea . . .

  • Seattle Moss

    Folks,
Pity me..I have the worst congressman in the United States

    Jim Baghdad McDermott.
McDumb is an anti-American terrorist sympathizing anti-business Marxist from a district where I’m outnumbered 3 to 1.
He blamed 911 on the United States and was against any kind of military action including against the Taliban
    What a disgrace!!

  • HARP

Well my paint job is pretty good but still too much “junk in the trunk”.

  • http://firefox Martha Washington Collier

My sympathies. My sister-in-law lives in Olympia and she feels surrounded by Lefties and people such as described above.

  • TexasMirth

Boxer objects to health care protesters? I wonder if people impersonating doctors at Town Hall meetings bothers her at all? A self-proclaimed primary care doctor praised the health care plan at Shirley Jackson Lee’s Town Hall meeting in Houston. It turns out the good doctor is not a doctor at all. Dr. Roxana Mayer is actually Obama campaign worker, Roxana Mayer. She received a big hug from Jackson Lee who then requested not one but two rounds of applause for the phony doctor. If Boxer wants to complain about attendees of Town Hall meetings, maybe she should start with Roxana Mayer.

  • Obamastolemycountry

I got that email, too, but I was wondering if it had just been circulating a while. Hannity did a show pretty close to the election about his radical ties and it was on a Sunday. It can’t hurt to watch Sunday, just to check anyway.

  • Vicki D

B Matthews, it was already passed and signed. It was called the GIVE Act. It was one of those “Look Over There!” moments and got very little fanfare.

    http://blatantreality.com/2009/04/21/give-act-signed-into-law-by-obama/

  • Vicki D

    EWard,

Our Central Valley Tea Party Patriots went to Miller’s office in Concord on August 13th. There were about a thousand of them. It got covered here in Fresno but I doubt any of the Bay Area stations covered it. We are really angry about his hatred of our farms here in the Central Valley and cutting off all the water to the West Side farms. We have a 40% unemployment rate, the state is bankrupt, and he and his enviroweenie colleagues cut off water to the richest farmland in the world.

Meanwhile, “Bleu Dawg” Democrat Jim “stab his constituents in the back” Costa (D-Madera) also refuses to have any townhall meetings. We were prepared to attend his meeting at UCSF in Fresno but he cancelled when he got wind we would be down there.

Potential opponents need to hold their own town halls and take questions as if they were holding office. That in includes challengers for the primary in 2010.

  • felizarte

One more vote here against Boxer. She really has lost me.

  • Confused American
  • Lisabona

I’m also very disappointed of both Clintons. Days after Hillary giving-up the fight, I was heart-broken. Now, I’m cured, especially after I heard Bill Clinton, praising 0bama’s HC plan. Plus what Hillary said in Nigeria about our election in 2000 in Florida mentioning Jebb Bush, like working behind the scene for his brother to be elected President. No matter if is true. Bu, Hillary as an intelligent women, should know, Nigeria is not the right country to denigrate your own country. How she can compare America with Nigeria??? Sorry, but I feel offended. I care less about Party and more about our Country.

  • Cathy in Ks.

Dennis Moore, another blue-dog democrat, is our congressional representative. I don’t think he has done any town hall mtgs. on the health care reform thus far. However he sent out a questionnaire to certain pre-selected constituents. We were not one of them nor were our friends who live near us. However someone we know stumbled upon the questionnaire sent out by Moore’s office and e-mailed it to everyone he knew including us.

We have responded to the questionnaire because we know it’s probably an “oversight” on the part of Moore’s office that we weren’t mailed the questionnaire from Moore’s office. (It should be noted that Congressman Moore has a substantial number of republicans in his district who have voted for him the last several elections. Although we are not republicans, we live in the republican part of his district.) It will be interesting to see if Moore is re-elected in 2010. I’m watching to see which way Moore blows on health care reform.

Vicki—–Many thanks for this link……I never heard about this.

    Cindy,
Obama Destroying His Credibility on Healthcare

Pundits are warning that a fact-challenged President Barack Obama is hurting his own credibility and further confusing the healthcare debate, after yet another litany of misstatements and dubious assertions during Friday’s town hall meeting in Belgrade, Mont.

    This moment should be called..
    The Revenge of Hillary!

Obama stole everyone’s ideas and made them his own. Now that it’s time to lead people have found that Obama is the emptiest of suits.

  • elise

RRRA, I have found enightenment on a grand scale. Next year in March, Pelosi will be seventy years old and in November, Boxer will be seventy. Can this be true? I Googled Pelosi and please believe me when I tell you, I got a pop up for Botox (been having trouble with pop ups recently).

According to Wikipedia, they were both born in 1940. If this is true, they must feel out of place in the “younger” party Brazil talked about during the primary. My mind is boggled by the implications.

FOX had a clip of Tina Brown’s comment on Hillary. She said Hillary is fat, her hair is bad and I don’t recall the other insults. Why am I always surprised that my reaction about Hillary is the polar opposite of some others? A diplomat isn’t supposed to be angry? That’s bull. Good ones have always used anger as a tool.

Sorry if the spelling is bad. There’s something wrong with my spell-check.

  • Seattle Moss
  • jangles

I too will not be voting for Boxer. A big problem for most of us is that the Republican party is not offering us much in the way of alternatives. I do not want a conservative ideologue who makes dumb statements any more than i want a liberal ideologue.

  • jangles

A few words FOR Bill Clinton.
I viewed the clip at the Confluence where Bill Clinton talked in support of health care reform. In that clip he supported the position that we really do need health care reform. He gave his advice about what he thought Dems should do at this point: go thru the legislation and throw out the parts that are subject to misinterpretation and major disagreement—get a workable bill together—make the bill understandable.

I think that is exactly what needs to be done.

  • Anon

And why didn’t she bring up caucus fraud in Iowa?

  • Obamastolemycounty

That was my thought, too. Why not be truthful about the travesty that happened in 2008? 2000 was a walk in the park compared to that and at least there was a mild attempt at looking at the law in 2000. 2008? Swept under the rug! But with all things swept under the rug, at some point they need to be dealt with or you’ll constantly trip over them.

  • Tammy

Here’s one in Arizona that chickened out.
She canceled her townhall and was replaced by the Republican Rep who gave step by step information from HC3200, the original bill.
    This is very good.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUini08olkQ

  • JS Ruby

My local congress person Suzie Kosmas/D-FL is having a $1000 a plate town hall meeting. That should be impartial.

She won’t even reply anymore to requestrs for an open town hall meeting. She has rolled over and played dead for BO. I wasted my vote, but not the next time.

  • waterstradt

Give our Congress people a break, what would have them do? Obama says he can save depending on the day between 300 and 600 billion dollars by stopping fraud, waste and abuse. OK, if that is true, that he can do that over the next ten years with all the baby boomers swelling the system what does it tell us about the last ten years. Your Congress person did nothing to stop this fraud waste and abuse, and if they admit that, we might not vote for them. If they had any honor other then the title on their name plates they would resign.

  • EWard

    jangles

BO and Dems do not want a “workable” bill. It doesn’t matter what Clinton states, BO is out to destroy our HC system.

How do you add 45 million people to a system when there are no plans to add more doctors or tort reform? BO/Dems plan to take close to a trillion dollars from Medicare. Every working person has paid into it. They should reimburse us, and then try to fund it. Also, BO/Dems plan to transfer HC benefits from the elderly to immigrants. I’m not for that.

BO is on record for a single payer system. Most Americans do not want this and that’s why we are objecting and fighting mad.

  • Kathleen Wynne

Here’s an example of how representative Ann Kirkpatrick of Aricons “controled” the dialogue in her meetings with her constituents and avoid open questions and answers regarding the healthcare bill and the citizens responses:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uN9P2plYVD4

Please send any video clips showing other methods used by reps and senators are trying to restrict any public exchanges between them and their constituents, in order to keep the public from knowing how Americans truly feel about this bill and other policies, for that matter.

  • Cindy

You make your Lost Pines Mama proud!

  • Cindy

“Revenge of Hillary” You are so right!

  • Regina

I also was disappointed with Pres. Clinton’s remarks. After all you can’t take the politician out of the politician. When he was assaulted for being a racist…..that was the end of the Clintons. “Black” and “leftist” Racists like using racism against their opposition to control the message. The average person doesn’t see color….he/she sees quality of the person. I am tired of the Chicago thugs using racism to disguise the real agenda….totalitarianism. The OBAMA Administration’s intended consequences is reparation. Don’t dismiss the billions ACORN is recieving.

  • Cindy

Seattle- There is something seriously wrong with Clyburn. Even for a Democrat, he’s a sicko. These people are so stuck in the ’60′s it’s pathetic! They might as well drive around in Edsells, sipping coca-colas through straws, wearing “All The Way With JFK” buttons! Jeeze!
This Aunt Pitty-Pat is tired of having the Dems play Prissy’s “birthin’ babies” scene.
    Enough!!

  • Lisabona

Nobody say, we don’t need a workable Health Care. Yes, indeed, we need, but not the 0bama one. More, the Health care proposal should be written in a clear understandable language. Not one, that has to be interpreted. I will do in one way, you will do in a different one, as convenient. Second, if Hillary dared to compare our Country with Nigeria, she should mention about Acorn, the millions of illegal contributions coming from Nigeria in favor of 0bama camp. What I aspect, do not be hypocrit, be fair. If you can’t,just avoid the subject.

  • Lisabona

Yes, indeed. We need a Health Care reform. But not the one presented to us. The reform should be written in a clear and understandable by anybody who will read it. Second, if Hillary dare to compare America with Nigeria’s elections, she should mention not just 2000 but 2008, Acorn and Nigeria’s illegal donations od thousand of Dollars to 0bama campaign. If you can’t be fair, just avoid the subject.

  • Chicago Joe

That was a fantastic post. I am in health care as well, and I know it from the inpatient perspective, which is addressed quite heavily in HB 3200. IT is too bad that these gutless wonders in Congress are finding every which way to skirt around the issues instead of dealing with them.

    Vote them all out.

  • Chicago Joe

No, they don’t. I suggest you head over to the Confluence for an excellent read on what it is really like at your doctor’s office. They are not interested in fixing that. They are interested in fixing things so all of their cronies have jobs, they have bought off special interests to support Obama’s re-election, and so that they can create more and more bureaucracy so the government has many, many jobs, which results in power and influence. The Chicago way. Clout. Power. Pull. Results. Yous guys on the outside–forget about it.

  • Wisewoman

Helenk. Let us not make the mistake of trying to decide if another candidate is “better” than Boxer or her kind. I supported her financially too. She does not deserve to be reelected and therefore should be voted out. End of conversation.

  • Wisewoman

EWard. Your interpretation of what Bill said is false and you know it. However you seem to be blinded by your hate of the Clintons which is why thanks to people of your elk, looney lefties, and right wing hooligans we have Obama as president. I would kindly suggest to you and the Repubs that you should make nice with the Clintons. In that way you may get some votes from the people who admire the Clintons and would vote against the Obama loving crowd if you took this tactic.

  • Wisewoman

LisaBorne. You are not truthful about Bill’s comments regarding the healthcare reform. If anything he gave a bit of advice to Obama saying he should scale it back. He did say that if Obama was able to pass something his popularity would rebound. Why do you Clinton haters like the Repubs have to delibeately misinterpret what he says? I don’t like it one bit that he even mentions Obama’s name and I am AA. I did not vote for Obama and I never will. However, I refuse to attribute statements to Bill that he did not say especially when he said the opposite to what you are stating. Please don’t spread untruths. It causes the reader to be misinformed.

  • Wisewoman

Lisabona. You very well know that Hillary was making the point that elections don’t always turn out the way people might want them to but the results have to be accepted without violence. She only used the Gore vs Bush as such an example of not resorting to violence. Try to get over your hatred of the Clintons. Its not healthy.

Honestly, the Spam filter has its own rhyme and reason. I can tell you that the word “idiot” in any variation will invariably get your comment put in Spam. Oh, you can use all kinds of other curse words no problem, but “idiot” offends the Spam filters sensibilities, it seems. Weird, right?

IF your comment gets put in Spam, PLEASE let us know so we can retrieve it. If you re-send the same comment more than once, the Spam Filter “learns” as it goes, and it will start to kick out your comments regularly.

    Sorry for any inconvenience!

  • TeakWoodKite

Any comparision to the word idiot would make the little man inside the spam filter feel it was not “learning” ?
