Keith Olbermann – Useless

Wednesday evening, Keith Olberman named Katie Couric “Worst Person in the World.” He apparently did this in response to a particularly egregious statement by Couric at the extensively covered Alice Award Luncheon and Gala, where Couric spoke as she accepted an award for being the first female news anchor and for her work to get more people screened for colorectal cancer.

During this luncheon gala, Couric stated about Senator Clinton:

However you feel about her politics, I feel that Sen. Clinton received some of the most unfair, hostile coverage I’ve ever seen.

Couric followed up this startling revelation by adding:

. . .that latent sexism contributed, in part, to Hillary’s defeat.
She referred to one “prominent member of the commentariat” who said he “found it hard to be objective when it came to Obama.”
“That’s your job,” she remembers thinking when hearing this, before suggesting that he “find another line of work.”

Naturally, Keith promptly named Katie Couric the “Worst Person in the World.”

Worst? Worst Person in the World? Dude, you have sooooo many choices and you pick Katie Couric? For THAT?

Read the rest ->

You do realize, don’t you Keith, that Couric’s assertion about the sexism thrown at Clinton has been widely reported on? That regardless of the punditocracy absolving itself in this matter, many people (and NOT just the old bitter ones) feel the media itself was the low point in the campaign?

This primary demonstrated that the footing will remain unequal for the next woman in line, said in Ari Melber in The Nation’s The Notion blog. Clinton fought an uphill battle against an American political media that is “slanted, sexist, and dominated by men.” She and Obama broke down barriers, but “the race was still refereed, scored, and narrated by white male commentators, an influential constituency in presidential politics. Pundits talked a lot about gender and racial progress during the campaign, of course, but the elite opinion media continues to employ, groom, and promote a commentators corps that is disproportionately white and male,” and until that changes the political playing field will remain uneven.

Don’t you remember, Keith, that you YOURSELF were implicated in Clinton bashing too? Don’t you remember, Keith, any of the many “objective” comments from YOUR colleagues?

Well, we do. It’s a short list, but it will have to do.

Where is your outrage when attacks against Senator Clinton were not hidden at all but were out in the open? It must not have bothered you when on his radio show Glenn Beck called Senator Clinton “. . . the stereotypical bitch” or when he said “After four years, don’t you think every man in America will go insane?” or “. . .there is a range in women’s voices that experts say is just the chalk, I mean, the fingernails on the blackboard.”

Where is your outrage when in reply Mr. Andros says, “Oh my gosh, she could be talking about how she’s giving every American a million dollars, and I’m hearing, “Could you take out the garbage now?”

Where is you outrage when Marc Rudov said, “You know what? The woman is not called a B-word because she’s assertive and aggressive; she’s called a B-word because she acts like one,” and “Men are depressed, and it’s their own fault, because men are allowing women to take over the world.” How about he says when asked about the downside of having a female president, “You mean besides the PMS and the mood swings, right?”

Where is your outrage when CNN’s Alex Castellanos asserted, “And some women, by the way, are named that [white bitch] and it’s accurate” or when he suggested that if Clinton were Sen. Barack Obama’s vice president, “I think Barack Obama would have to hire a food tester …”
Where is your outrage when Fox’s Mort Kondracke said “Well, this person says Hillary’s a vampire. She’s sucking the blood out of Barack Obama.”

Where is your outrage when NPR’s Ken Rudin stated, “[L]et’s be honest here, Hillary Clinton is Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction. She’s going to keep coming back, and they’re not going to stop her.”

Where is your outrage when on MSNBC David Shuster presented Tucker Carlson with “a Hillary laughing pen” where the mouth moves and the pen makes a laughing noise. In response, Carlson stated: “I can’t tell you, David, how much I appreciate this. . . ”
Did you even flinch when on MSNBC Pat Buchanan asserted that when Clinton “raises her voice, and when a lot of women do, you know, it’s — as I say — it reaches a point … where every husband in America … has heard at one time or another.” or when he said,”It’s very difficult for women to reach those kinds of levels effectively, as it is to make them sort of a rally speech. They’re not good at that.”

Where is your outrage when Tony Hendra, at the bastion of quality political thinking known as Huffington Post, imagines, “Wednesday morning, a crazed grin splitting her Chucky-like cheeks, Clinton told her staff: “All my life I’ve felt I was a man trapped in a woman’s body!” No-one disagreed.” or when John Eskow says, “Her cause is herself. Her feminism is a feminism of convenience. Her concern for kids — which surely once must’ve been real and profound — has turned into a breezy willingness to “obliterate” them,” or David Rees titles his carefully researched article “Journey To The Center Of Hillary Clinton’s Mind: ‘Why Would I Drop Out Before Barack Obama Is Assassinated?’”
Where is your outrage when the NYT’s Maureen Dowd compares Senator to Lord Voldemort and then imagines that “Democrats are trying to sneak up on Hillary, throw a burlap sack over her head, carry her off the field and stick her in a Saddam spider hole until after the Denver convention.”

Where is your outrage when Mike Barnicle on MSNBC said Clinton “look[ed] like everyone’s first wife standing outside a probate court,” when Bill Kristol on Fox News said that among the only people supporting Hillary Clinton were white women, and “[w]hite women are a problem, that’s, you know — we all live with that.” when CNN’s Jack Cafferty likened Clinton to “a scolding mother, talking down to a child,” when MSNBC’s Tucker Carlson announced that “when [Clinton] comes on television, I involuntarily cross my legs.”

All that is missing from these worthy political commentaries is the odor of sweat, acne and towel snapping, followed by the disclaimer, “aww, we’re just kidding, can’t you take a joke?”

Where was your outrage, sir, when your colleague at MSNBC, Chris Matthews, repeatedly dismissed, insulted and belittled Senator Clinton? What did you think when he said “I hate her. I hate her. All that she stands for.”

Presumably, working for the same outfit, you were aware of Matthews’ considerable and extended bouts of verbal diarrhea related to Senator Clinton. Surely we have no need to go into all those comments all over again, since it must have been so clear that those remarks about a presidential candidate and sitting senator were and are without a doubt totally inappropriate and just plain wrong?

Or maybe not. After all, on MSNBC, referring to what Democrats needed to force Senator Clinton from the race, you said, “Somebody who can take her into a room and only he comes out.” Did you really say THAT? Did you really think a not-so-subtle allusion to beating up a woman was an acceptable thing to say?

Really? About a PRESIDENTIAL candidate? About a former FIRST LADY? About a woman who still gets millions of votes despite comments like these? Or possibly because of them? About a woman who still wins primaries by large margins even as other democrats call for her to give up, bail out, go home, slink away and shut the fuck up. Really? That’s worthy of a punch or two or twenty? Who else have you singled out for a back-room beating, Mr. Olbermann?

Oh, but your anger at Couric for her terrible statement is not directed at her concerns about sexism. You completely dismissed that with:

A little Kool-Aidish but her opinion and she’s entitled to it.

No, Keith, what got your tushie in a bunch was the SECOND part of her statement. You know, the part where she vaguely referred to a comment by another journalist that she found professional troubling.

What followed, she was not entitled to. Couric referred to one, quote, “one prominent member of the commentariat” who had said he found it hard to be objective when it came to Obama. “That’s your job,” she says. Then she suggested he “find another line of work.”

She didn’t name him, maybe because she didn’t bother to look it up. But the supposed member of the “commentariat” who said that was not, in fact, a commentator. It was NBC News correspondent Lee Cowan, who covered the Obama campaign throughout the primaries, and who, as Ms. Couric would have found out had she bothered to examine the context of his remark, was speaking with refreshing honesty, acknowledging that the environment of that campaign, and the ferocity of the candidate`s supporters in the primaries, challenged a reporter to be especially professional and vigilant in separating the hype from the news.

So, Keith, what drew your righteous wrath is that Couric seems unimpressed with the supposed hypervigilance of your friend and his “refreshing honesty.” Sounds like she simply expected the guy to do his job and do it well or make room for someone who would.

Maybe, Keith, Couric was a bit courageous in calling out, however subtly, a member of the talking-white-boy-club. But we’re simply astounded you can get all upset about this comment when so many other comments provoke nary a single nostril flare, much less a throw down from the great Countdown Pontificator.

Identifying much, Keith? Maybe it IS all about you. And maybe if you keep that tushie in a bunch you’d better get a colorectal screen too.

Today’s NYT has a quote from Keith regarding Clinton coverage:

Keith Olbermann, the host of “Countdown” on MSNBC, said that while there were “individual, sexist, mistakes,” there was no overall sexism.

Any suggestion that MSNBC “was somehow out to ‘get’ Senator Clinton is false and unfair,” Mr. Olbermann wrote in an e-mail message. “We became a whipping boy.”
He said that after Feb. 5, when Mrs. Clinton went on a losing streak, her campaign strategy was to blame the news media, which he said was “its only fuel.”

Still, he said, there was “constant reflection and analysis at MSNBC, and I must say there was constant good faith in trying to make certain Senator Clinton was not treated unfairly.”

Good old Keith. Classroom monitor on the towel-snapping planet. What would Murrow say? Not much.

Breaking News: Andy Martin Holding Press Conference On Obama Birth Certificate

(NEW YORK)(June 13, 2008) Legendary Chicago Internet columnist and Obama author Andy Martin will hold a New York news conference Friday, June 13th to announce a new blog intended to counter Senator Barack Obama’s new web site that denies Obama was a Muslim. At the news conference Martin will also issue a surprise challenge to Senator Obama.

I bet Olbermann is hurting right now.
He pissed on his LOYAL viewers by sucking up to the Daily Kurse – not realizing the thousands of people who post there are actually a few frauds with multiple sock puppets.
There is no longer reason for Repugs to keep his ratings artificially high.
His viewership has probably plummeted to his mother, his 14-year-old girlfriend, and David Axelrod.

First, I don’t necessarily agree that it’s the requirement of a journalist to be objective. The current paradigm is “Smith says the sky is blue, Jones says the sky is green. The controversy continues. Back to you in the newsroom, Chuck.” That scenario is totally objective but gives a completely false context because it presumes that both sides are equally credible. If the journalist KNOWS one side is right and one is wrong, there’s nothing wrong with saying so.

Second, I see nothing wrong with commentary or punditry, provided it’s clearly known to be such. As an example, I expect Katie Couric to provide news, but I expect Keith Olbermann to provide commentary. There’s nothing wrong with that, provided those involved and those who receive the information know which is which.

The problems come when journalists mix commentary with reporting, or when commentary has no basis in fact.

Two easy examples — In the first scenario, Candy Crowley from CNN speculating on the significance of the gesture Obama made in going to Hillary Clinton’s house to meet with her after she conceded the Democratic nomination. OOPS! Turns out the meeting took place at Senator Feinstein’s house. There can’t be any significance to the Obama gesture of going to Clinton’s house, because it never happened. Crowley’s speculation still hangs in the air, though.

In the second scenario, Bill O’Reilly uses the WW II Malmedy massacre to illustrate a point, but gets the basic facts wrong. O’Reilly has US soldiers massacring Nazis. The event happened the other way around. Not only did O’Reilly get it wrong, he refused to make a correction and then altered the transcript of his own show to try hiding his error.

So, I say take a pass on “objectivity” and instead let’s go for a clear delineation between news and commentary, and let’s let facts, not speculation, drive both.

KO is a discrace; I amazed there is a US channel that allows that kind of trash on National TV.

But I am not surprised…I met yesterday a guy who’s supposed to be well informed in politics and kind of smart. He was originally a supporter of Biden, then when he dropped he was for HRC. During the primaries he had complained to me how he couldn’t talk to his friends any more b/c they were all BO supporters.
Now he tells me he didn’t care either BO or HRC and starts talking to me excitedly about sth. KO said against McCain. So I interrupted him abruptly and simply said: “Don’t talk to me about that guy; he is a misogynist pig and should have been fired.”

he was sooo taken aback; “why do you say that? I don’t see that at all” he kept repeating. I mentioned a few things; still he “never heard that” “doesn’t see that at all”,etc etc etc. He didn’t even believe me about the CBS nutcracker being sold at airports…
And this guy watches cable TV !! (I don’t).

I was glad I was in a hurry b/c I kept on biting my tongue not to tell him: are you that stupid?

This guy was supposed to be one of the open reasonable ones…. What an idiot.

No wonder things are at the stage they are.

Wonderful article! I used to love Keith Olberman, I watched him all the time, until early Feb.

I thought he was a progressive man. Then the truth came out. What a sexist!

I have not watch msn since Feb (except for the primary results). and don’t miss it a bit! It’s all a pack of lies anyway.

The female pundits weren’t any better. The jealousy & envy of Hillary Clinton was incredible!

But remember, millions of men voted for Hillary Clinton! Not all men are stupid, and sexist Beaver Cleaver’s.

Men who hate women are afraid of them.
Men who love women are empowered & stronger for it.

Hillary Clinton proved she could take anything thrown her way & deal with it. The kite flies highest against the wind. And she did!

In years to come she will be seen as an iconic figure, while Keith Olberman will slip into obscurity.

The problem, though, is that in traditional newscasts (back in the olden days when the names of Huntley, Brinkley and Cronkite represented journalism at its finest) was that, even when an anchor wanted to provide an op/ed piece, it was FULLY acknowledged as such (there was usually a screen blurb that read “opinion” or something similar, or the anchor would make a clear statement to that effect, such as “and now, I’d like to offer an opinion” with an ending disclaimer of “the preceding does not represent the views of this program/network”). Nowadays, however, most so-called journalists, of whatever background, feel a need to offer their “expert commentary” without making sure to note that. Such attitudes are fine when covering sports “news”, where armchair quarterbacking is part and parcel of the coverage (and where Olbermann got his start in broadcasting).
When you cover news stories solely through the lens of op/ed, you’re not covering the news. All that happens in this case is you give the briefest background, often just enough so that viewers can back your position without knowing enough of the “other side”.

  • NoObamislamists

I emailed Larry, but I received no reply. Any suggestion for getting Obama-Wire.com as a link to Larry’s site?

  • Lucinda

Technically, I think she was the first solo female news anchor. Barbara Walters was the first, but she shared the anchor desk with Harry Reasoner. And I also believe that they’re referring to the network evening news—not daytime or magazine-style news programs. I’m sure the Alice Award committee did their research.

  • J.J.

I stopped watching Olbermann for the same reasons. The two things that pushed me over the edge were the disgraceful attacks on Hillary the night of the South Carolina Primary, and then his distorting of the facts concerning the contacts between the Obama aide and the Canadian government.

Olbermann is entitled to his own opinions, but not his own facts. At one time I viewed Olbermann as a modern-day Edward R. Murrow. I now view him as a cross between Shawn Hannity and Senator Joseph McCarthy. “At last, Mr. Olbermann, have you no shame”?

  • Diane

I was an ardent MSNBCer for a long time but gave it up for good when the ridiculous attacks and loco commentating began. I too checked in from time to time to see if they may have seen the error of their ways but they only got worse and worse.

I believe that those viewers that they lost have been replaced by Obama maniacs so they have found a niche for now but they have totally lost their reputation and credibility which is bound to catch up with them once the election is over.

I also think that because of this Matthews will not be able to run for Specter’s Senate seat as he desires because Hillary was particularly popular in PA.

  • Linda

“The overall image consultant for Obama is none other than Zbigniew Brzezinski, now
joined by his son Mark Brzezinski—a veteran of the Clinton National Security Council—
plus Mika Brzezinski, who is leading the charge for Obama at MSNBC. Zbig is also
Obama’s foreign policy controller. Zbigniew Brzezinski’s entire life has been dominated
by his consuming, fanatical hatred of Russia. As he approaches 80 years of age,
Brzezinski feels that he has one last chance to dismember the Russian federation and to
partition European Russia. This will be the great foreign policy project of a future
Obama administration. It is certain that Zbigniew Brzezinski will join Napolean and
Hitler in failure, but what will become of our country? The Bush neocons have been
addicted to aggressive war, but they were at least cunning enough to pick countries which
had no ability to strike against the continental United States. Brzezinski lacks this
cunning. He proposes to court confrontation with Russia, the one country, which
maintains the capacity to incinerate the United States several times over. The Brzezinski
project to be carried out under an Obama regime is a project of incalculable folly, tailored
to the obsessions of a clique of old central European revanchists left over from the
1930’s, not to the needs of the United States in the twenty-first century.”

““If Senator Obama possessed truly exceptional qualities of leadership or morality, it
would not be necessary to make this argument against him. But he possesses no such
superiority. Quite the contrary. He has called very explicitly for the bombing of
Pakistan, a country 2 ½ times larger than Iran. Obama spoke against the Iraq war in 2003
when he was not required to vote on the issue, but he has also voted for every Iraq
military appropriations bill in the Congress, until this year. Most important, he is a
Manchurian candidate, reminiscent in the many ways of the disastrous Jimmy Carter of
1976. Jimmy Carter had been chosen and groomed for the presidency by David
Rockefeller and Zbigniew Brzezinski, the leaders of the Trilateral Commission. When
Carter reached the White House, he turned US foreign policy over to Brzezinski. The
results were the seizure of power by the Ayatollah Khomeini, the Soviet invasion of
Afghanistan, and the founding of Al Qaeda by the CIA (Brzezinski’s strategy) as an Arab
Legion to fight the Soviets in that country. Carter turned economic and financial affairs
over to Paul Adolf Volcker of the Federal Reserve, who raised interest rates to 22%,
thereby destroying the industrial potential of the United States, and contributing to a
disastrous fall in the standard of living. Volcker, by the way, has just made a rare
presidential endorsement-of Obama. Our left liberal friends are in a united front with
Volcker of the Federal Reserve. The chilling image of Carter as a failed puppet president
who set the stage for two decades of reaction, labor rout, and national decline should
remind us that a candidate like Obama must be carefully scrutinized.”

    ….OOOOPS….too late.

All of us Clinton supporters should use our viewing and buying power to ruin our enemy… they Obama nuts. I wouldn’t even go see Sex and the City because all I can remember is Sarah JP on talk shows gushing about Obama… screw em… they can have their millions but not one dime from me. I am also selling Michael Moore’s books and movies on ebay and any other shit I once thought was great but now see what fools they all are. I might even sell my Alice Walker novels just because Obama plagerized her saying ‘we are the ones we have been waiting for’ and I can’t read them without thinking of Wright… no more Oprah book club books… ebay too. Good thing Prince is okay, I hope he never comes out for Obama, he is a nut but I don’t think he is that nutty. I would hate to have to get rid of all his albums. I refuse to watch MSNBC, it is FOX for me… They are biased but at least O’reilly has the people on there he opposes.

  • Jane

The best revenge will be to see that MessNbc go down in smoke, and I think they will.

What a freakin disservice to the American airwaves, and as someone alluded to above, it culminated to its peak level biased propaganda and ugly commentary during the Clinton campaign, but its downward spiral had started long before that and throughout the entire democratic campaign, like someone said, out nout ignoring the other candidates and shaping the horse race they wanted. They are a bunch of unprofessional hacks and as said, I hope we get to watch its painful demise along with the paid hacks it employs.

  • Zeke

Senator Obama had a physical recently and the MD’s asked him for a stool sample. He said, “I’m in a hurry. Just wipe down Keith Olbermann’s nose.”

  • MikeB08

I’ve never been much on conspiracy theories but Olbermann and those of his ilk have made their name (however slimy) because of 8 years of Bush. If we have a Demacratic Congress and a Dem in the White House, Olbermann’s limited usefullness would cease to exist. So pushing a candidate who could actually win the GE would be somewhat self defeating. A good example is Limbaugh. His radio show may still be popular, but it was during the Clinton years that he became a national figure and even had his own TV show. If Obama won (and I don’t think he will), Rush would celebrate all the way to the bank.

  • db

When the misogynist’s reared their ugly heads! That’s when.

Can you imagine calling Obama the n-word, or having a figurine of him eating a watermelon on national TV?

The double standard is incredible! Call a woman a bitch, a ho, on national TV and it’s fine. Make a racial remark & you’re fired!

Barbara Walters was the first news anchor woman. Her partner quit (I forget his name) because of it.

As John Lennon said, “Woman is the nigger of the world.”

  • kat in your hat

I quit watching MSNBC in Feb. Olbermann is just a sleazy ex-sportscaster who totally lacks credibility. I’m not joking when I say that I would curse him out big time if I saw him in the street.

BTW, I must say, I did find it rather amusing to learn that KO is horrible in bed from that blogger who dated him. That doesn’t surprise me. He’s got serious woman issues…and is it true that he asked out some kind of porn star and she turned him down? I believe KO is currently dating a college student, which makes sense since he probably cannot cope with a mature woman who can plainly see that he is a complete degenerate.

  • Seattle Moss

I have enjoyed systematically disassociating my self with any media, organization or company that played a part in fixing this nomination this year.
It was a pleasure to unsubscribe to the Obama campaign this morning with a little rant.
what I found interesting was that I received an e-mail at the same time from ‘Hillary Clinton supporters for McCain’ warning me of the Obama e-mail.
    How Sweet!!!
This is a real movement against the thugs, sexists and fixers at the DNC and MSM who thought they could take us for granted.
    Olbermann…Your a sexist pig!!!
I vow to never watch MSNBC or Buy GE products again!!

  • kat in your hat

I learned about Andy Martin a few months ago.

Andy Martin has proclaimed that he is “the man who will bring down Obama.” I guess he is in Chicago, and I believe I read that Andy Martin started having a problem with Obama when he learned that Obama was taking credit for certain community efforts and lying to others about his background and life experiences.

Andy Martin has it out for Obama–no doubt about it.

  • Uppity Woman

    Got a link, artist?

  • Uppity Woman

Oh Man, Richardson must be freaking out!

  • Daryl

The numbers say it all. MSNBC and CNBC combined have lower ratings than those Nu Wave Oven informercials.

  • jwrjr

Couric has shown herself to be a better journalist than KO. Naturally he can’t tolerate that.

  • sowsear

Today I saw a copy of the NY Times and forced myself to read the front page article on sexism in the media. Not only was I angered at the media in general and Olbermann in particular for making Couric the”worst person in the world”, but I was astonished again that Dean’s now trying to say that he has seen sexist bias and wants BO to address the issue. BO, that’s a laugh and a half.

  • Hope Floats

I thought Yoko said that. :P

  • gregg

    lol

  • Annie Oakley

Last time I tried to watch him he was stumbling over a line: “I don’t know how to say this, but are the Clintons BITTER?” ( At the time KO was helping Ob’s campaign remake the Clintons into crackers, and it was before the Obomination adopted bitterness.) I saw that and thought, “Keith Olbermann, you’re no Edward R. Murrow.” Haven’t watched since.

  • MaryPat

Rupert Murdoch recently described KO as “crazy.” And if anyone would know crazy, it would be Murdoch, right? Word is that the other on-air talent (I use the word loosely) at MSNBO can’t stand him, especially because Keith likes to throw his weight around in very petty ways (like refusing to introduce Dan Abrams’ show). He tends to implode every few years, and I believe he is now officially overdue. You can practically see him spitting on the camera when he is “delivering” his so-called Special Comments. Not a rational man.

The irony is Keith constantly ridicules O’Reilly when he can out-bloviate Bill any day of the week.

Edward R. Moron and his BFF Barry have the market on arrogance and ego cornered. I despise Olbermann. He can’t self-destruct soon enough for me.

  • elsie

I certianly enjoyed Olberman before the primaries and MSNBC but when I heard him bashing Sen. Clinton, I stopped watching… He has a female sub who also started ranting against Sen. Clinton. I used to watch her too when KO was out. I heard she a Brown alum and I got interested because my family has Brown alums. But she became so disgusting and I switched channels. Now as I reflect, she is black and how could I miss her anti Clinton stance. Maggie Willians, Sen. Clinton,s trusted aide is black and she is not like this KO sub. I understand she has a radio show on NPR.. Great, another Gwen Ifil who is also anti Clinton.. You can’t win for sure. Then, a host of Clinton haters have been prominent not because they are doing their job as reporters of facts but they are enamored with Obama, How disgusting is that. Russert who defends their programming content is so ugly, I can’t bear to watch him everytime he is on. I have trouble following him because he is not blessed with good looks. Matthes is despicable and I also wish his ratings will plummet just like KO’s

But I do hope Obama lose the election. I for one will vote for McCain, My only consolation for voting for Mc Cain is that I will not be taxed to death unlike the liberal Obama. I do not need Roe v Wade since I am past child bearing age and I don’t care about Supreme Court Justices because they are beyond my control.. i did not vote for them and even if Obama selects the next justice, I probably end up not liking his decisions too.

Keith Olberman is a disgrace to broadcast journalism. At this point in my life, I do not expect it to be any better. I have admired many journalists in the past but I don’t think they will have new journalists just like them..

  • db

No John. Yoko was at his side. Bet she came up with it. She’d sure know. At least he had the guts to say it!

  • so sad

lets play pretend.(everything they say about women hurts us just as bad as an african american person hearing this:) the only thing is our feelings dont matter to them.

“You know what? The black person is not called a N-word because they are assertive and aggressive; they are called a )N-word) because they act like one,” and “whites are depressed, and it’s their own fault, because whites are allowing blacks to take over the world.”

“And some blacks, by the way, are named that [N word] and it’s accurate”

“when [Clinton] comes on television, I involuntarily grab my purse.”

,”It’s very difficult for black people to reach those kinds of levels effectively, as it is to make them sort of a rally speech. They’re not good at that.”

It must not have bothered you when on his radio show Glenn Beck called Senator Clinton “. . . the stereotypical N-word” or when he said “After four years, don’t you think every white person in America will go insane?” or “. . .there is a range in black peoples voices that experts say is just the chalk, I mean, the fingernails on the blackboard.”

  • db

Yeah, but why did Katie wait until AFTER the primaries to say anything? Why didn’t the women spew news-makers stand up for Hillary while she was being bashed?

Where is the courage on the parts of women!

  • sowsear

Just saw that Tim Russert has died.

  • DancingOpossum

Don’t totally give up on MSNBC–Joe Scarborough (Morning Joe) is still terrific and he seems to have reined Mika’s Obamadoration in. This morning she, Harold Ford, and Mike Barnicle (blecch) were ripping into the BO campaign’s “ageist” tactics against McCain.

When I first started watching KO, my boyfriend said “That guy is insane, he just rants and raves, how can you like him?” And when he heard the Murrow-lifted line he said, “Oh come on, how dare he?” At the time I was swooning for KO’s anti-Bush screeds so I didn’t listen, but obviously he was dead-on. Now that I’ve regurgitated the Kool-Aid I feel so much better.

  • Laura

“Maybe, Keith, Couric was a bit courageous in calling out, however subtly, a member of the talking-white-boy-club”
    ………………………………………….
The fact that they are white has nothing to do with it since the media’s coverage of the primary benefited a black male candidate and hurt a white female candidate. Racism isn’t a factor amongst the talking heads, the problem is sexism.

  • beebop

    That is SOOOOOO good!

  • sowsear

This is not “so sad” who used to post at TM. That was me. ???

  • beebop

I don’t put the channel on AT ALL … I was flipping the other night and left the room to take a call. When I came back, I had inadvertently left it on MSNBC … Abrams — a KO wannabe was on and quck as a bunny SNAP! Gone!

  • beebop

Maybe Russert’s heart attack will calm him down.

  • beebop

If you are thinking about Walters, she was a co-anchor. Facts are not an obamasnot’s friend, are they?

  • Zeke

    But Wait!

  • wry

    Lute…you are funny!!!

A friend of mine dated him once, but she was an adult so they had problems. She said he was “weird”. I think that sums it up nicely.

  • wry

She doesn’t have a husband or a wife or a child. At 50 something she’s still chasing the latest fad in spirituality.
No, I wouldn’t be her for all her “numbers”.

  • wry

What does this mean? Did I miss something?

  • wry

I agree, db. My Brother has raised three children to adulthood and is still married to his wife and is crazy about her. He built his own house and can service his own car.
He’s a real man and he loves Hillary. Strong men totally get her.
As to Olbermann, he may be having a mental breakdown like Brittney Spears. I just never watch him, ever.
It’s better if we all do that. We’ll be happier.

  • Mary

    Me, too.

Have you noticed he never has anyone on his show that disagrees with him?

And the handful of guests are always the same people now, who nod their heads a lot while Olbermann gives us his “wisdom.”

Rachel Maddow is like a pathetic puppy dog on his how.

Sad, really, what Keith has become.

  • Mary

I took MSNBC completely off my remote’s favorites list. Been that way since February.

  • DirOfTheObv

I could not believe that those words were coming out of Couric’s mouth. It was the single most intelligent thing she has ever said, imo. It is the first time she’s ever had balls!

Olberman is a mental midget. “Bluntly put” as Matthews would say.

Today’s passing of Tim Russert is so symbolic to me. A Blue Collar democrat, once the voices of the DNC…gone. THE VOICE for NBC. Is gone. A symbol of every thing sacred in journalism and he was dedicated to it to his core.

They’d better look hard. God’s telling them that they ain’t been living right, and that they didn’t deserve a man with such intellectual honesty. He called him home.

Now, they can name a new DC chief for journalism and betcha he’s buyable, betcha he believes in giving passes, and I betcha he’ll be a good little Pravda style talking head.

  • JP49

Well bally hoo for Katie. Why did she wait until after the primaries? Well because her bosses like all bosses of the mass news media give these people their talking points. They had to make sure Hillary lost and was despised so Obama could be the one. God I want to puke even typing his name. Murdoch, Mellenscaife and Soros are the ones that need to be brought down along with the corporate news media. And don’t fool yourselves O’Reilly is no friend of Hillary. He still says snotty remarks. Don’t watch their shows don’t tune into those channels. Hit them where it hurts the worst and gives them a reason to listen, don’t tune in their channels. Watch anything but them. They’ll get the message and lose money to boot. There were plenty of black women and men making sexist and derogatory remarks about Hillary as well as outright lies. I don’t care about the democratic party anymore. It can’t be saved and neither can the news media until the cartel is taken apart. Surely you have heard of the oil cartel. Well the news is a cartel as well. The only way for citizens of this country to make them listen to us is to hurt their pocket books. Tune them out. No Obama on any ticket. I will vote republican this year for the first time in my 59 years and so will my entire family. I will only vote for those democrats who stood behind Hillary. Otherwise I hope they all lose their seats. The democratic party has been taken over by the power hungry Clinton haters.

  • JP49

Are you kidding? He was despicable in his treatment of Hillary Clinton. He might have been a good reporter at one time in his life but certainly not the last few years of miserable life.

  • susan

Olberman is a very ANGRY guy, so let’s continue to provoke him. Maybe karma will decide to give HIM a stroke! I used to admire Russert, but now the only way I will remember him is circling the table, trying to avoid contact with Clinton after the debate in which he was so incredibly rude and condescending. Just before her speech suspending her campaign, Olberman’s comment on seeing activity outside Clinton’s home, before her arrival at the National Gallery,”Oh, we have some frantic activity there now; a couple of PANTSUITS going into the home!” So we are now just “pantsuits”, are we, crybaby Keith??? Let’s see who is crying again in November! Unless, of course, karma intervenes before then. Couric, the worst person in the world?? You dont’t give yourself enough credit, Keith. Surely, you’ve earned that title yourself, and nobody can take that away from you!

  • http://360.yahoo.com/ommotherlifeforce fred heidrick

katie couric!!! and ellen goodman!!! are the only pro-clinton reporters i know.

and as for the pro obama spokesman tim russert….hope you are injoying the after life you REPUBLICAN S.O.B. did more to destroy hillarys campaine than most any other sourse

  • John

I have a brother who is 16 years younger than me (I’m 54). I have been a devoted Democrat for most of his life. He is a successful businessman and a Republican. He doesn’t fit the stereotype of a Republican that you often see bandied about – he is kind, considerate, never heard a racist or sexist comment from him. He just happens to like the Republican Party’s ideas. He was critical of President Bush when he saw the mismanagement of domestic & foreign affairs coming from the White House.

However, that’s not my point. About a year ago, he asked me if I was voting Republican. When I said “No”, he smiled and said, “You will. I give it a year.” I told him he was nuts!

I called him the other day and asked him why he said that then. Because it turns out he was right. He said, “You have always been smart. In spite of everything that George Bush has done wrong, the Democrats have run out of any ideas. They are just offering vague promises now. I knew you were too smart to fall for that.”

  • Momar of Iran

Keith seems just kinda nuts, doesn’t he?

Why bother, it’s more fun to sit back, and just laugh.

He doesn’t even make sense, anymore, arguing his ego, and paranoia, moreso any ideas.

As an OT, is the color white, in any culture, a harbinger of death, does anyone know?

Not to do with Olbermann, I was thinking of Russert, in conjunction with Kat, from China,(who posted here, on the Bolsh. thread) which made me think of an old St Elsewhere, where “Kathy” wore white to funeral, saying it was the Chinese color of mourning.

  • gentlerabbit

You know I used to really like Keith Olberman, as much as I used to like Huffpo, but now I can’t stand either, lol. I stopped liking Olberman because he did what I call twat cam, you know, shoving cams up the skirts of nubile young women, Spears, Hilton, and the like, which seemed to be his only entertainment news, nubile young white women. I got kicked off thebigorangegreasespot (dkos) for writing a diary on that. lol. Then he did those bombastic spots of his and at the end likened himself to Edward R. Murrow, who must be spinning in his grave abut that. Isn’t he just a fired hasbeen sports caster? Lately though, the man seems to really have gone totally quackers, almost foaming at the mouth and writhing in the floor as he makes some of his pronouncements, as if anyone is listening to this rabid dog. Doesn’t he need to be put down?

  • Kinky Ogremann

No wonder everyone who works with him, especially women, all say he is a huge misogynist and treats women like dirt. I’m glad this campaign has exposed this disgusting side of these people.

I am ashamed of my namesake.

  • StatBabe

That bit that Olbermann did with Katie Couric was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me! I had turned off Olbermann when he did that “Special Comment” on Hillary, but then, I figured that Hillary did express herself rather inartfully when she made that reference to RFK’s assassination so I started watching again. I am not even a “fan” of Katie Couric, but what she said about the overt sexism and misogyny that was constantly injected into the campaign was SO TRUE! No one would DARE to use a racial perjorative in reference to EITHER of the Obamas, yet it was perfectly “okay” for commentators to refer to Hillary as a “she-devil”, a “bitch” and every other vicious term that could be applied to a woman without so much as raising some small objection! The ONLY time that ANY of them got disciplined for their overt sexism was when David Shuster referred to the Clintons’ “pimping out” Chelsea. Exactly how this was so much worse than Chris Matthews referring to Hillary as a “she-devil”, I will NEVER know! Yet, that earned Shuster a short suspension.

If there had been ANY objectivity in their reporting, the media would have blasted the Obama campaign for their ridiculous attempts to paint the Clintons as racists. TO THIS DAY, there are Obama supporters posting the most vicious lies about the Clintons, and what really galls me is that the Clintons actually worked for civil rights! One Obamabot actually had the audacity to tell me that Hillary was trying to “demean MLK and Barack Obama” when she talked about LBJ’s role in civil rights. The assertion about MLK is a stretch, but the latter claim about Barack Obama is clean out of the ballpark! The ONLY relationship that Obama has to civil rights is that he has accrued the advantages of the civil rights movement without lifting a finger!

And I cannot help but go back to the op-ed that Gloria Steinem wrote. If Obama had been a woman, white or black with his lack of experience, he would not only NEVER have become the junior senator from Illinois, but there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell that he would have become a viable candidate for president!

  • CAE

I used to enjoy the Bush rants too. BUT it was like eating Twinkies for dinner. Not very satisfying in the long-run and you knew it really wasn’t good for you. His reluctance to have anyone who disagreed with him was really disturbing (and yet prophetic for his role as Mr. TV Obamabot). The most apt comparison for him is the liberal version of Bill O’Reilly. Although like BOR, I doubt the political sentiments really run very deep. Certainly not much deeper than the next contract extension.

If you don’t have a ratings meter, you can still make sure someone knows you refuse to watch MSNBO. Just v-chip MSNBO on your cable or HD receiver. Trust me, those companies keep tabs on what channels are being deleted by users, just like Tivo does.

  • Felix Polanski

    Countdown Beats out O’Reilly ratings

Evidently the rumors of Olberman’s ratings ‘plumet’ are a bit off.

  • DirOfTheObv

Russert was tough on everybody, regardless of party. You could never really tell what his political offiliation was. However, Russert was always searching the person in the other seat for the truth. He was never rude. He didn’t demean the other person.

Olberman, Matthews, all those others at MSNBC, are just no where near his league. They treated Hillary completely unfairly. Their behavior was beyond unprofessional, it was assanine!

Like I’ve said, today they have lost their VOICE. Maybe it will make them pause to think about it.

  • DirOfTheObv

    LMAO! Put down…that’s good.

The truth is NOBODY is watching. I’ve seen their ratings some nights and it’s as low as 400,000 people ….NATIONWIDE! That’s awful.

  • DirOfTheObv

It’s one day. Keith will probably use that as justification for why he should now get Russert’s old job. He’s a loser that’s remade himself 900 times. He wears more makeup than any female news journalist on television. I bet he spends ten grand on the gray highlights in that hair. And what is up with the tight closeup shots on his mug? His head is the size of a pumpkin on the widescreen!

  • Dutch

Olbermann needs to be medicated and hospitalized. Anyone with that much anger should be under watch.

  • politicsIsdirty

Haven’t turned in to MSNBC for almost 6 mos now. Can’t stand them. Would rather watch Fox news..used to hate Fox news until I noticed that MSNBC and CNN are part of the Obama media army.

    Karma to them.

  • http://bluedawgdemocrat.wordpress.com BlueDawgDemocrat

Identifying much, Keith? Maybe it IS all about you. And maybe if you keep that tushie in a bunch you’d better get a colorectal screen too.

Speaking a gay man I actually I think his anal sphincter muscles are so restricted it’d be hard to get a toopick in there much less a medical instrument!

I have wanted for a long time to see KO cry, but I wanted it to be over BHO’s crushing defeat in Denver or November. But, how can you kick a guy when he is grieving? I’ll give it a shot, cuz I just can’t stand him,

I doubt they were real tears, after all he is the heir apparent to the throne. After all it was his sick mind that took HRC’s RFK comment and blew it way out of proportion and proceded to rant for 10+ minutes. Maybe he was projecting his own sick machinations because he felt he wasn’t getting the props his overinflated ego craved.

  • Fred C. Dobbs

“Another product of CRAPCO. Wherever a******s like you buy s**t like this!”

  • Fred C. Dobbs

It has become harder and harder to discern Olbermann’s speech, what with Obama’s testicles resting upon his chin…

  • Fred C. Dobbs

You MUST learn to loosen up and let your feelings out!!

  • Fred C. Dobbs

    >>> Can you imagine calling Obama the n-word,

It’s just a word; if it doesn’t describe you, then let it go by.

    >>> …or having a figurine of him eating a watermelon on national TV?

Myself, I prefer the Obama Bobblehead, which portrays him in jockey silks and holding up a lantern.

  • http://deleted AnninCa

I didn’t like him even when he hated Bush. I thought he was uncivilized about it.

    Ditto with my candidate.

He’s not even as fun as Rush L. can be.

  • Fred C. Dobbs

Couric wouldn’t make a wart on a journalist’s ass, if we could FIND a journalist in this country any more.

For Olbermann to have LESS acumen than she is a sad commentary on what sort of dreck we Americans will tolerate.
