McCain is working for our votes – Obama Isn’t

It has come to my attention that John McCain is actively meeting (in private one-on-one meetings and conference calls) with Clinton supporters, including women’s and GBLT groups. Senator Obama isn’t lifting a finger, and his high-level campaign folks are simply assuming that everyone is going to fall in line.

Democrats are not necessarily going to vote for McCain, but in a close election every vote counts. The fact is that many people are pissed off at the DNC and do not feel that Obama can win in November nor that he is qualified or trustworthy enough to be President. McCain can exploit that.

On a recent conference call that John McCain moderated himself, explicitly stated that he is a “fan of” Sandra Day O’Connor while not going so far as to say that he will nominate judges that will respect stari decisis and honor Roe v Wade. The danger is that he could meet the “good enough” threshold. He is also earning people’s respect.

Compound that with the brown shirt tactics that are being used to suppress anyone that expresses anything other than 100% orthodoxy and a shit storm is brewing.

In fact, it reminds me of when the neocons took over the republican party and silenced moderates.

This is troubling to me; arrogance does not win people over. Hell, Obama was out golfing during Hillary’s concession speech. Bullying does not win people over either. I’m not won over, but I will not vote for the old man because he backs awful policies.

I sincerely hope that the Obama campaign stops resting in its laurels and pays more than lip service to uniting the party. Wake up Senator Obama – we need to win back the White House, and that takes hard work.

          I voted for George W. Bush, but I actually thought that Hillary would have made a pretty good President. The woman is smart. (smarter than Obama or McCain in my opinion.) You Hillary supporters, consider this. McCain is old, he won’t be serving more than one term, if he even makes it through one term. Hillary can run in 4 years again, she’ll only be 64. Hillary is one tough woman, I am in my 40′s and really admire her gutsy campaigning and how she refused to give up. I actually could see her as McCain’s running mate, but I know the Republicans wouldn’t go for that, or would they? As far as the health plan Hillary proposed, I am having second thoughts about Univ. health care. Maybe it’s not such a bad idea, why should people lose their life savings in middle age if they become seriously ill? (women like Elizabeth Edwards who get breast cancer, they can lose their jobs or have to work while they are sick.) What about a plan where Middle Aged Americans were offered a way to buy into Medicare before age 65? We pay for our car insurance, why not pay into medicare if we don’t have insurance through our job. It could be an option. Also, McCain wants to give a tax credit of $2,500 per person or something to offset paying for health insurance. (What is medicare worth in dollars per month I wonder?)That would lower the cost to the gov’t because there would be younger, healthier people in the gov’t pool. It could work the way that the Fed. Flood Ins. Program works, but you would have to buy into it. This might even help out the gov’t Medicare plan which is stressed by the baby boomers becoming eligible for Medicare starting this year. Also, we need to do more drilling for oil in this country off our coasts. I wish John McCain would push for this. This is a very important issue for middle class voters, the cost of gasoline. Canada is drilling for oil and they are now mining their shale oil (American Union Carpenters are going to Canada to do this work). We get much of our oil from Canada. We need to become more independent of OPEC and oil from countries in the Middle East. As far as windfall profits on oil companies are concerned, it is doubtful this would work (economists have said so already, it was tried by Jimmy Carter, did not work). The oil companies would drill less if they had to pay a windfall profit. People (and companies) become less productive if they are punished for being sucessful. We need to start drilling to kill the speculators from bidding up the price of oil so much. Demand has gone down due to people driving less, also we are starting a recession.

      It means that a public “Thank you” that day or within the last week for his endorsement by Hillary Clinton would have been nice. Saying the obvious, that she was a formidable candidate, is not a thank you as he has offered numerous other backers.

      It is not Hillary’s job to sell us on Obama. It is his job. He had ample power, to get a public statement thanking Hillary on the MSM. He did not make or take the time to do this, which was really bad strategy. He gave McCain space and time to seek Hillary’s supporters support.

        I was in New Orleans so I really wasn’t paying much attention to Bush, frankly. But I do know who has visited us and helped us since then and it’s not Obama. The only thing he’s done down here is given two speeches at private universities.

        strawberry — I felt the same way about Bush as I feel about Obama now. They are both careless — they creat chitstorms and then walk away smiling. How dare he say (referring to McCain)–if he bring a knife I will bring a gun. Then he said cause winning is the most important thing.Sounds like he is telling young people as long as you win anything you do is ok. He needs to grow up and stop listening to all his father/mentors who have conditioned him to be a radical.

          S.Hall, this is a life lesson for both of us, I really believed if one claimed to be a liberal, one would not give in to hate and violence, and the might makes right tactics. I truly thought we were the better party because we didn’t do things like that…Damn. I was wrong. These whack jobs have destroyed my party. But I must admit, many democrats didn’t just fall in line like the republicans did for Bush. That gives me a little hope.

            I had the same reaction. Seeing people who questioned everything suddenly fall in step was an eye opener. What Bush did in 2000, and 2004, Obama is doing now. And many people don’t even realize that it is the same tactic. They bought the story, hook, line and sinker.

          Are Hillary’s supporters really voting for McCain in large numbers in the Fall? Do her supporters really hate Obama that much? McCain isn’t really a typical Republican, he is actually pushing for this Global Warming carbon credit, cap & trade which I am against. I feel it will hurt U.S. industry, and more jobs would be lost. Haven’t we lost enough jobs to China & India already? Why does McCain want cap & trade? The cost of cap & trade will be passed on to us, the consumer. Also, the windfall tax on oil companies will discourage oil companies from producing enough oil and there could be shortages (it has already been tried, I remember the 1970′s lines for gas). You don’t punish businesses for being successful in my opinion. It just doesn’t work. On the other hand, McCain wants to lower the corporate tax rate, which is good for business. We have the second highest corporate tax rate after Japan. Ireland lowered their corporate tax rate which attracted alot of businesses to Ireland. We are competing globally now. These corporations can move out of the country to more tax friendlier countries. McCain needs to realize this and capitalize on it. We need to encourage drilling off our coasts. China is drilling 50-60 miles off the Florida coast in cooperation with Cuba. If China is drilling 60 miles off FL we should be drilling 60 miles off FL. We are now in a recession, we should not be raising taxes on people, McCain needs to appeal to Hillary’s voters more and also appeal to the Republican base, which is tricky. Hard core conservatives are not happy with McCain but they are terrified of an Obama Presidency. They don’t want their successes to be punished. When Obama says things like: “We can’t drive our suv’s as much as we want, or eat as much as we want or keep our thermostats at 72 degrees because other countries won’t like it.” this strikes fear in the hearts of conservatives who don’t like the thought of collectivism. Hell, even Bill Clinton was more friendlier to businessmen than this Obama (he seems like a Marxist to me). Also, when he says things like, “we need to raise the capital gains rate to 28% because that’s “fair” it strikes fear in the hearts of conservatives because we know that if we owned a 2nd home or some stock that may have done well, we know when we sell it and we make our lousy $50,000 or $100,000 profit after years of sacrifice, we’re going to get whacked by Obama’s 28% capital gains tax. That was the money we were going to use to retire on and he’s going to whack us. In other words, we took the risk, and now the gov’t reaps the benefits of the risks we took. How is that “fair”? Also, a high capital gains tax is going to discourage people from investing in things like a second house to rent. (Which would hurt poor people who rent that houses.) We’ll put our money in municipal bonds instead. Or ask our accountant to put our money in another tax shelter device. Now, I am not a so-called rich person, I have a net worth under $500,000. It used to be higher, but the equity in my houses went down. I need money to retire on. Why does Obama want to discourage people like me from investing? Also, I am a person that put down 20% on my first home and 70% on my second home after I sold the first house. Why do people who put no money down on a house and took a subprime mortgage expect a bailout? Also, the banks that made these subprime loans should not have been bailed out, they should have to pay that money they were given back. I am tired of bailing out businesses for their lousy business decisions. The gov’t should be encouraging people to buy these foreclosures (people like me who actually sacrificed to have a nest egg in the bank). We could then fix them up and rent them out to people who don’t know how to manage their money and kept taking out equity loans when they had no equity. But no bank should be giving loans to people who put $0 down. Also, interest only loans are a bad idea. Didn’t these people read a book on how to buy a home? Didn’t their lawyer who did the closing tell them it wasn’t a good idea? Also, who didn’t know we were in a housing bubble? We all knew the housing bubble was going to burst. Anyone with half a brain knew it was coming for the last 3 – 4 years.

      From what I’ve observed so far, Senator Obama doesn’t seem to be a fan of hard work.

      If Senator Clinton’s ‘unity’ speech could not hand him over all her supporters, I suspect there was not a backup plan…certainly not one that involved Senator Obama actually getting out there and working for the votes.

They did go after the fundraisers and apparently the large fundraisers jumped over to him because that’s what they do. They’d jump to the devil if that would get them in the power loop.     court goes, any nomination would have to get past

      You make a good point about McCain’s supreme court nominees. A Democrat controlled Congress will not allow McCain to nominate a Supreme Court Justice who is pro-life. Even though I voted for Bush, I don’t want Roe-v-Wade overturned. I am a woman who is pro-choice. No one has the right to interfere with women’s choices regarding pregnancy in my opinion. Even though I am not thrilled with partial birth abortion, it really isn’t my business. Also, McCain isn’t an Evangelical, so I doubt he is that much of a pro-lifer. He also doesn’t seem to be that religious, he doesn’t even go to church and he doesn’t talk about his church at all really. The Obama people think that women who voted for Hillary will vote for Obama on that issue (they don’t want Roe overturned.)

      I’m not sure why you say that. After all, Obama did best in very progressive and feminist states like Oregon and Wisconsin. He also won women under 50 in nearly every state. And he is currently leading among women voters and has been endorsed by Planned Parenthood and NARAL. He also had more women Senators endorsing him than any other candidate.

        NARAL’s endorsement, timed at a critical point in the campaign for no reason other than to give Obama’s candidacy a boost and Clinton’s a kick in the pants—that is, for no reason germane to its own mission—has apparently cost it a significant exodus in membership. In response to my own e-mail of resignation, I received a disingenuous and carefully crafted letter from NARAL’s president. Surely I’d not have warranted all that effort had my resignation been the only one. I’m volunteering time with the local but will never give NARAL a penny more: collateral damage, I’m afraid, of Obamist manipulation.

      I spend hours on youtube everyday, commenting on videos of Obama. A lot of people go on youtube, it’s the #3 most visited site, his videos get hundreds of views. There are hundreds of videos of Obama’s comments posted on youtube. I also spread the word of websites such as dontvoteobama.net which has links to other websites that are against Obama. The guy who runs dontvoteobama.net was also a Hillary supporter, now he supporting McCain. You should visit that site, it is really funny and creative. He also has a blog on that site that you can vent on. Spread the word. I could never vote for Obama, the man is the biggest opportunist I have ever seen.

    The DNC has taken women for granted for decades. They feel that all they have to do is be marginally better for women than the Republicans and we’ll just do all their phonebanking, precinct work, and voting on that basis alone.

    Women’s votes aren’t the only ones Obambi feels entitled to: Latin Americans, Jewish Americans, Work Class Americans … the list goes on and on. HIs advisors read like a whose who of the Financial crisis and he thinks folks will vote for him because he wears the DNC label. Well, even the Unions are worried with his bringing on of Walmart loving Jason Furman to the Economics team.

    This is a presidential candidate who says one thing, advisors do another thing, says another thing, DNC says don’t pay attention to the man behind the curtain..

    They must think we ALL fell off the proverbial turnip truck yesterday!

      My husband is in a Union, Carpenters Union in NYC and I am voting for McCain. I don’t think McCain is anti-union. McCain needs to allow drilling though, off our coasts. Would that not create many more Union jobs for Americans?? I don’t understand this country’s environmental policies that are so restrictive. Also, what are these “green jobs” that Hillary was talking about? Do Democrats think that everyone is going to want to put solar panels on their homes? If so, we need a tax credit to put them on our homes, they cost over $20,000 to install. Also, how long does it take to re-coup the costs of these solar panels? Do any of you Hillary supporters have a problem with drilling off our coasts? If you do, why? We need to become more energy independant as Brazil is doing. Also, China is drilling off of FL. We cannot control China and Cuba drilling 60 miles off of FL. We should be going after that oil. Also, I live in a blue state, NJ, there is no chance that McCain is going to win NJ I fear. We have the highest tax rates in the country, as a result people are moving out of NJ. Consider that, if you live in a Democrat controlled state, you are going to be hit doubly hard by Obama’s tax & spend policies. I am now paying over $8,000 a year property tax on a 1900 sq. ft. house and Corzine will be raising that soon. We also have a 10% tax rate on our earnings. He raised the rate on non food purchases from 6% to 7%. He is raising taxes on everything to fund the pensions of all the gov’t jobs in NJ. We are a state of mostly gov’t jobs. Also, we have NYC close by, so we benefit from that relationship, but Mayor Bloomberg wanted to charge people $8 to drive into Manhattan. That on top of paying $8 to go through the Lincoln & Holland Tunnel. So, I feel that I pay enough in taxes, also, I live in a blue state, surrounded by blue states of NY, Connecticut, Massachusetts, etc. So I feel that needs to be offset by someone like McCain. Hopefully NJ will wake up to that fact. Their union jobs are not threatened we have Democratic governors and legislatures. We need to keep jobs in this country. More jobs will leave if the tax rates on corporations are raised, you can count on it. The company my husband works for is pro union, but they won’t want to build condos anymore if they are hit with more taxes. We need to be pro business, we should not be punishing businesses for success. The main thing about Bush was that he was pro-business as was Bill Clinton. We are competing with the world. Corporations can move to other countries, they are global.

    Roe v Wade is a non-issue and always was. It’s used as a wedge, nothing more. If Bushnut could have changed that he would have. He can’t and nobody can. If not the Federal, then the States, pure and simple. It never was a federal issue to begin with. BUt since it has been made one, how come the coward Nancy Pelosi doesn’t carve it in stone from her legislative branch? How come Nancy hasn’t done a lot of things?

      Listen everyone. I lived before Roe vs. Wade. Women still had abortions. They’ve had them since the beginning of time. Yes, when they are illegal, they are more expensive and harder to get and more dangerous. But with the morning after pill, the need for them should be less. Women would certainly be more careful, as they were before Roe.

      Besides which, I agree that McCain is not going to go after Roe. What would he gain from doing that? If he’s already President, he most likely will go back to his natural self (instead of the awkward and embarrassing act he’s been putting on the last four years in his fake lovefest with GWB) which is a person who compromises with Democrats.

      In fact, I would imagine he would be easier for the Dems to work with than Obama. Who the hell knows what kind of President Obama would make? He came out of nowhere and he tells everyone what they want to hear (he’s against Nafta unless he’s talking to the Canadians, he’s for one-payer universal health care when he’s running for the Senate and against it when he’s running for President, he’s damned mad about those energy companies and their obscene profits unless he’s voting for the 2005 and 2006 Energy bills which gives the energy companies everything they want. As far as Roe is concerned, why did he think it was a fine idea to vote for SC justice Roberts until his political advisors told him that maybe it wouldn’t be if he wanted to run for President as a Democrat?

      The man has no soul, no beliefs, no class. He is a go along to get along crooked Chicago politician who doesn’t care all that much where his money is coming from and who gets hurt (like his constituents in his district who were living without heat and water because of his support for Rezko, their slumlord?)

      This man is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Don’t vote for him. McCain, with all his faults and his crazy ideas (believe me, I have a hard time with this myself) is the only thing standing between us and an Obama Presidency. I will vote for McCain and I’ve been voting Democratic and working for Democrats since I could first vote in 1964.

        I voted for Bush, then I had buyer’s remorse when we had an unneccessary war with Iraq. I liked that Bush was pro-business though. We are living in a global economy. Corporations can re-locate. So putting a windfall tax on oil companies won’t work. I am old enough to remember Carter doing that and the long gas lines. I am too old to get pregnant(I think!). I doubt that McCain will be able to overturn Roe. There would be a huge outcry from women. Also, the states can do what they want regarding abortion. I live in NJ, we will always have abortion in this state. I am voting for John McCain because I cannot pull the lever for Obama. I feel that Obama is evil. Also, re: Iraq, we will be leaving that country, but we are going to have to leave some troops there (at least 20,000 no matter if McCain or Obama is elected, we are not leaving that country to de-stabilize the Middle East). We are there, we cannot in good conscience leave till their military can do the job themselves). Hopefully, that will happen soon. We have troops around the globe, that is the nature of the U.S. Obama is not going to bring all the troops home. However, if we elect this man who has Muslim blood, who knows what will happen in regards to Israel’s situation? I am not Jewish, but do want to have a war where Israel would be destroyed by Iran? Would Obama allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon to be used on Israel? Or a suitcase nuke which could be used against us? Also, he was being advised by Zbigniew Brzezinski and his son, the man was Carter’s advisor, Brzezinski has some very controversial views regarding Israel and Russia from what I have read of him. He also was the one who got Russia involved in the Afghanistan war in the 1980′s and called it Russia’s Vietnam. He has some kind of hang up about Russia since he is Polish and Poland was controlled by the U.S.S.R. soviet bloc. Also, McCain is old, he is only going to have one term. Hillary can run again in 4 years. I don’t like the way that Obama has disrespected Bill & Hillary. Bill Clinton was a good President when all was said and done.

      You are right. If Roe v. Wade did not get completely overturned in the last 8 years, it will not be overturned under a McCain presidency. And, whether McCain publicly states that he will only select nominees for Supreme Court Justice that “believe in stare decisis” is irrelevant. All judges believe in stare decisis; that is what common law is about. The issue is really WHEN a judge deems an issue to be settled.
      Arguably, since Obama was in favor of legislation legalizing third-term partial birth abortions (when the baby was actually alive for up to 30 minutes after being removed from the mother’s uterus), this extreme position would do more to outrage those on the far right and mobilize them. In my opinion, when you have a moderate person in office, these kinds of wedge issues have less traction.

But just the same, when he says something charming it’s like being punched in the stomach, because he says the same words so many of us democrats desperately wanted to hear from Obama. We never have. Obama has never said he values us, he wants our votes. He’s never condemned his preachers for their language against Hillary. He’s never talked about how much respect he has for Hillary’s historic campaign and she herself as a politician. He’s never spoken about increasing women’s representation in government when he is president.

      Yes, her compensation pay is large. As large as Jim Johnson’s when he left Fannie Mae. The difference is that what she did at HP made it profitable. What Jim Johnson did at Fannie Mae left it nearly bankrupt and contributed to the subprime mess. But you’re right, these corporate heads should share in the losses as much as they do the profits. These compensation packages are outrageously big. Why is it losses are passed on to shareholders and workers, but these people don’t have to be bare any of it?

      I forgot to say, her duties as CEO of HP was to make the company and its shareholders money. Her role as adviser to McCain is to help him create an economic policy that will profit American and the American people. I don’t see her being any problem with her advising him. I think it is a good thing. He has other economic advisers. I’ve heard one of them on CNN and she was very knowledgeable.

      I will vote for McCain. If there is no security, there is no chance for economic prosperity.

    There is a lot we can speculate about. Here is my OPINION: The DNC is not, repeat, not, interested in winning this election. If the Democratic Party wins the White House, it will just be icing on the cake. Dean and other “Tops” are interested in Party Building, which includes fresh blood and fresh bread ($$$).

    Baby Boomers, who make up a HUGE number in the Party, are headed out the door, so to speak. This is the DNC’s chance to win younger people. Obama does that for them. Thus, the “Rock Concert” feel to what are supposed to be political rallies…politotainment, if you will. It is laying a whole new foundation for the Party (one I am not comfortable with, but so what?). This new foundation is the future of the Democratic Party, folks. So, get used to it.

    Obama is starting a 50 state strategy. Whose idea is that, you think? The fact that he is going into red states is groundwork for the future. It may not get votes, but it will get a younger Republican crowd thinking about following Obama, even if he is a Democrat. They are after new members and new $$$ in the red states. Cults are a powerful thing! LOL

    That is why Dean and the rest of the Party is ignoring the Backbone. 2008 votes are NOT important. Quite frankly, the fact that many Dems. are going to vote McCain or abstain, is of no consequence to the Party. The regular Democrats keep basing their arguments on old beliefs, the same premise…winning the election. You will not win the argument. That is not where the new Democrats are going. It is not about winning elections anymore. Power and Money. That is all there is now.

    What frosts me the most is the oft-repeated Donna Brazile line:

    To me it just reeks of the rationalizations of abusive husbands who know they can still grind their wives into the ground because: “Where else can they go?”

    Add Brazile’s “We don’t need the blue-collar vote to win,” and you get an even clearer picture of the subtext of their arrogance which reinforces the abusive husband sentiment.

    “I don’t need you, you need me. Where else can you go?”

    This is there message to Hillary supporters?

    Brazile, like many pro-Obama surrogates, is incredibly TONE DEAF to Hillary supporters.

    She and others, including Obama, are so drunk on their illusion of power, they are striking the wrong chords over and over.

    At this point the effect of the “Hope & Change” blather has expired as a message.

    Those who fell for it – well – already fell for it. That market is saturated, it has “crested” and (for those who understand marketing) it could now begin to ERODE if the Obama camp is not careful with it’s messaging.

    To capture the remaining Democrats who did not buy the “Hope & Change” themeline they have to offer something substantive.

    Offering: ‘Hillary asked you to support Obama,’ will only work with a small percentage.

    The rest of us, many in the majority on No Quarter, are going to be harder to move. Yet, even in this subset there may be fence-sitters still waiting for a reason to go for Obama because they don;t want to vote for the GOP.

    And what does the TONE DEAF Obama camp offer this week:

    - Comments about bringing a gun to a knife fight creating congnative dissonance vis-vis the Hope & Change message.

    - The decision to move the DNC to Chicago creating suspicion about his motives.

    - Refusing town hall meetings with McCain.

    - A flat out rejection of Hillary as VP.

    - Flip flops on his remarks about Jerusalem in less than 24 hours.

    All of which does little to raise the comfort level of independents and democrats still sitting on the fence about Obama.

    In truth their recent comments and actions are having the opposite effect causing BO’s “poll bounce” to disappear in less than a week.

    To me, it’s actually funny to watch.

    In this crucial, post-primary moment Obama & Company are dropping the ball and too arrogant to see they’re fumbling.

    The GOP is launching stage one of their strategy to attract Hillary supporters and the BO camp appears oblivious.

    I guess they still beleive Brazile’s rationale: “Where else can they go?”

    Someone should mention to Brazil, we have many options, including staying home in November.

    BO and company can knock themselves out registering new voters (who are unreliable on election day) and at the same time leak larger numbers of Democrats from the base, resulting in net zero.

    As the old saying goes, never get in the way when you opponent is destroying himself.

    I have a hunch that’s why Hillary and Bill have disappeared from public view and I hope they remain off camera until the Denver Convention.

    We their supporters will do the heavy lifting until then.

I’d like to see Obama buy & renovate some junky old house & then see if he still thinks it’s “leisure income”. Maybe he ought to try runnin some blue collar business for 30 yrs & then sell it to pay for retirement & give 28% to Uncle Sam. He & his brokers have had some real luck in the futures market parlaying $1,000 into $100,000. People who trade on line without a broker can’t even play the futures market! He must want the little fish outta the market. He claims he’ll nullify the entire federal income tax for people over age 50 making $50,000 or less, (WHY? so he can later tax their savings?) but plenty of senior retirees rely on interest income from CDs to subsidize SS, pay med gap insurance, utilities, etc (maybe he’d rather they all go on the combo dole of medicare/medicaid & cost the tax payers more.) He’ll screw them into poverty to punish them for saving, interest income has already been cut in half. NAW! NAW! NAW!     I’m not going to vote for Obama. NOTHING could convince me after witnessing how he and his surrogates treated Hillary. I remain steadfast in my vow to send the DNC and the press my tiny rebuke by refusing to vote for the guy on whose behalf they lynched Hillary, hijacked the nomination, and rolled out the full battalion of sexist hate speech for.

    But beyond that, Obama is arrogant (as ignorant and unqualified people often are), two-faced, secretive and dangerously uninformed.

    My dilemma is simply that I really dislike McCain’s stance on several issues. I’m still hoping to write Hillary’s name in – because I think that is more powerful than simply not voting – but if I have to, I will vote for McCain.

    If we had a united PUMA front, I think that we could indeed send a powerful message. But right now PUMAs are considering different strategies. It will be interesting to see how the dialogue develops between now and November.

    Heard Eleanor Clift on McGlaughlin last night say that Hillary supporters are going through the stages of grief and that we will all come back and support Obama by November. This theory explains why Dean, Pelosi, Brazille, and Obama have done nothing to reach out to disaffected Democrats. They think we are going through a phase and will return by November. Are they in for a rude awakening.

    I am an educated and independent woman. I want to vote for John McCain but he hasn’t earned my vote yet. This is not the 1700s and I will not sacrifice my personal freedom so that religious zealots can be appeased. It will be heartbreaking for me if I have to sit out an election, because there is not a party that comes close to representing my values.

    I am not willing to tolerate the teaching of “creationism” in public schools. I want to point out to the McCain campaign that the fastest growing religion in American right now is Islam. How would these same Christians who want to impose their religion on all Americans feel if other groups asked for similar accommodations? Our constitution upholds the principle of separation of church and state for good reason.

    John McCain has an opportunity to redesign the Republican party for a modern, era and the issue of gender equality may be pivotal to its survival. If the Republican party takes a moderate position it might happen that many of the women who have left the marx/dem party for this election as a protest against Obama, might find a new home. I suggest that John Mcain also reach out to the young women in his party and ask and how they feel about these issues. He might be surprised to learn that his, is a party in exodus.

First order of business – eliminate your opponents, by any means. No one can criticize Obama, certainly a police state in the making.

I for one will be giving McCain a serious look-over, especially if he picks a moderate Republican as running mate. Also, before you throw Roe vs Wade around, there are other matters on the plate. If Roe vs Wade has survived 35 years, it’s not going get over turned. And there are always the states: I very much doubt that California, New York and Massachusetts are going to abandon abortion rights.

    FYI: it’s “resting on one’s laurels”, not “in one’s laurels”.

      CA and NY won’t ban abortion. However, about 30 states will. Others will partially ban it and will have huge fights about banning it.

      Roe has only stood this long because the Court was pretty favorable. Once O’Connor left it has been hanging on by a threat. Just look at the 5-4 this week. If any of those 5 go and are replaced by McCain, that’s the end of Roe.

    I actaully was one of the people on the conference call with mccain yesterday. I am a hillary supporter WHO WILL UNDER NO NO CIRCUMSTANCE VOTE FOR THAT FRAUD.

    I have never ever voted republican, but I was sort of leaning towards mccain. What I heard from Mccain yesterday was pure honesty. I am left of center liberal, and mccain I have found to be a right of center repubs. I can live with that.

    During the call, he was asked about roe/wade, stem cell research, the iraq war, healthcare, judges.

    I have to say, I disagreed with him on a few points, BUT what amazed me is he knew he disagreed with me on those points but he was willing to meet me half way.

    I can live with that!!!

    So, if hill is not the nom in august, I will be able to a vote and support mccain. I cannot vote for an incompetent novice like that fraud.

Small on line investors, who don’t get broker advice, aren’t even allowed to play in the futures market. And it’s next to impossible to get a real (not quanatative) brokerage account for less than 150,000 to 200,000K It’s all about “fairness” isn’t it? I’m startin’ to like this NAW! NAW! NAW! rant. I want to know why is Wall Street giving so generously to Obama? I think it’s cause business is tired of paying for health care & want to shuff off the cost of employees’ health onto the gov. Who knows? maybe they just want the little fish outta the market. Currently Freddie & Fannie are on the line for close to 80% of subprime & ARMs, maybe he can stick the taxpayers with 100% of foreclosures too. All of Obama’s 60 Billion in new programs are based on 5% interest, guess he’s betting Bernake/Paulson will have to double the rate between now & January to take pressure off the energy markets & sacrifice housing. She answered that women should look at McCain’s policies and realize that his interests do not reflect theirs and therefore should not vote for him.

    Does anyone have news about Dean’s refusal to let Hillary have her name on the Convention ballot? I was out raged the RBC stole 4 votes from her. Now this…cheating Hillary AGAIN! The DNC is clueless if they think this is a path to party unity. They are no better than Bolsheviks. The Democratic Party no longer represents democratic values of fairness and inclusion. I am more determined than ever to make sure that the Marxist cancer growing in the belly of the DNC is absolutely destroyed. PUMA!

    Hillary did what she had to do and strongly endorsed Obama. I would have been appalled by her political naivety had she done otherwise. Now I and other loyal Hillary supporters must do what we have to do; namely reject her advice, work against Obama and for John McCain.
    That is the paradox. It is also the realpolitik.
    This is about more than just Hillary’s base within the party – it is about the vital national interest.
    I will try to simplify matters:
    Suppose a completely off-the-wall Phelps-type character, who had an even more extreme wife, managed trough a combo of spellbinding oratory and the ability to disguise his true colours to swing the Republican nomination.
    In that scenario I would hope that there would be patriotic, sober Republicans with enough gumption to put national before party interest, forswear the habits of a lifetime and vote Democrat.
    Hillary simply did what she had to do in calling for support for Obama and I respect where she is coming from. That said you could almost see a balloon over her head during the speech containing the words ‘like f**k’!
    On listening to her endorsement I was reminded of words from a Gordon Lightfoot song:
    ‘If I could read your mind love,
    what a tale your thoughts would tell’
    But I and other patriotic Clinton supporters must now do what we have to do.
    Mention has been made of an ostensible policy overlap between Clinton and Obama. It simply has to realised that Obama’s policy agenda/worldview/platform is……..Obama. The rest is just window dressing.
    There are also other yardsticks relevant to an individual’s suitability for the presidency – experience, integrity, moral courage, etc. In all of these he slips badly. For reasons that are patently obvious for anyone who has not been living in a cave these last four months an Obama presidency would represent a security risk to the US as well as retrospective validation of Dean/Pelosi/Brazile’s Tammany Hall politics. If they get away with this one then it’s going to get worse and worse and the term ‘Democratic Party’ will become an oxymoron.
    *Thank God* we have a second chance of stopping Obama and the DNC cabal in their tracks and that is to grit our teeth and vote for JM in November. This is the *only* option – matters are far too serious for half-measures like staying at home or voting 3rd party. OK, there is a lot about him that I don’t like but I frankly see no alternative. Better the devil who spent five years rotting in a POW camp in the service of his country to the devil who spent 20 years in a pew listening to a USA-hating demagogue.

    While I did vote for McCain in the 2000 primaries (against Bush) I was blown away at the disrespectfully treatment Bush heaped on McCain.

    I cannot see any difference in how BO is running the DUNC train wreck, between him and Bush. If you did not know any better you would not be able to tell how much real damage BO has done in so many ways.

    The damage cannot be undone. McCain was not who I would have voted for but BO has made that choice for me. Not a pretty thing but taking about guns and knives in the context of running for POTUS is beyond stupid judgment. It is a glaring example of indifference.

    I can’t vote for that, regardless of qualifications.

    I am waiting for the story about the debates. The story is how Obama is trying to run from those too. He can’t win an election by running away. He has to be able to do town hall meeting and roll with the topics and the punches.

      You’re wrong. There is another way- and that’s to vote for Bob Barr. It’s still early enough to get a grass roots movement going. Barr can definitely get the Conservative votes (McCain is NOT a true conservative). Barr will easily win over all those Evangelical voters that McCain has insulted. Barr’s policies and values can/will appeal to those hard-working under-educated white voters that are so attracted to Hillary. Why would anyone want to vote for McCain. He changes positions every other week (a sign of senility?). Like most of you, I don’t want Obama either. But I also don’t want some old geezer that smells like Ben-gay, wears Depends, and makes smacking noises with his gums as my president.
