Barack Obama’s legislative accomplishments

A new, very amusing variation on a familiar theme that will delight Republicans and make Independents more and more wary:

Only 8,300+ people have viewed this video. No doubt it’ll make the rounds of Republicans’ mailing lists soon.

  • Shainzona

Perhaps I’m going soft after all these months…but I feel so sorry for that guy on the tape.

However, I love what it says (doesn’t say) about The Empty Suit!

  • WasLNbutNoBamaBotsKeepStealingMyName

And this is only the first of all the ammunition that the Repubs have against nobama.

    Let the vetting begin!

  • Freedom Fighter

Are these the devastating Republican 527 commercials you guys have been getting all excited about? What a joke! The Clinton campaign’s tactics make the Repubs look like boy scouts. For two decades, the Clinton machine are reknown as the nastiest and dirtiest in memory. If Obama can dispatch Clinton, Obama will slam McCain’s softballs out of the park.

  • GoHillary

He has been in the senate for 1.5 years not 4. Need to change that, otherwise very good!

  • catherine

Yawn. Obama is not going to win. What part of a vote for McCain is a vote AGAINST Obama don’t you understand?

  • GoHillary

Stupid fellow does not understand that the Repubs will hold their hand until end of august. These are just apetizers. They are playing nice until the democratic party shoots itself beyond redemption.

  • JB

Actually, they are not. Answered your question?

  • HARP

    Ignorance is your encyclopedia

  • prabhata

1.5 years? Obama was elected in 2004, same year was re-elected..

  • prabhata

2004, same year Bush was re-elected

  • alee21

You take the propaganda from the Obama camp way much too seriously. The Clintons are tough and they are fighters but Obama is in a league by himself, Chicago style.

FYI, “the Clinton machine are reknown as the nastiest..” This sentence contains grammatical and spelling mistakes.

  • WasLNbutNoBamaBotsKeepStealingMyName

obambi did not “dispatch” Senator Clinton, as you so “delicately” put it…he stole the election. And, because of his despicable tactics, he as alienated a good portion of the 18 million folks who voted for Hillary.

It’s not just John McCain and the Repubs that the Dalibama has to reckon with, it’s hordes of angry and outraged Democrats, who will help to shove Precious’ campaign off the tracks and into Lake Defeat.

  • bonita

    Freedom Fighter:

You spend so much time here I believe you’re a closet supporter. I’ll help you make the first step.

Repeat after me: Hi, my name is Freedom Fighter and I’m a closet Clinton support. I’m addicted to NoQuarter where I spend a good deal of my time because Oborg blogs are boring.

  • http://citizens.johnmccain.com/ Colin

Barack’s mother registered his birth a few days after he was born. She listed the hospital in Hawaii where he was supposedly born.

That hospital has no record that his mother was there. This has fueled speculation that Barack was actually born in Kenya, and that his parents rushed back to the United States to register his birth fraudulently so that Barack would be able to enjoy life as a US citizen.

    Heh. Priceless and so gentle…

The Republicans are just warming up – the true Swiftboating only begins after the nominee is chosen.

They won’t even have to try – they can just run the pastor disaster videos looped all together, then ask “Do you really trust Barack Obama’s judgement?”

    Hello, President McCain!

  • HARP

I will make you a deal.

I will vote for Obama if you can cite me exactly under what DNC rule, did it authorized them to take delegates from her and gave them to him.

  • GoHillary

You are correct. 4 years is right, Last hour I have been reading too much about 2006 elections and how the dems (the ingrates) owed it all to the overwhelming support of women and getting all agitated about the dirtbag dem party behaving this way this year.

  • Judith

I cannot connect to the radio interview. Anybody listening? Will there be audio of the interview on No Quarter?

  • Mary Kay

Those won’t come out until August, after the convention. Remember, neither Clinton nor Obama had enough PLEDGED delegates to give either the nomination. If the DNC had done what it was supposed to do, both would be going to the convention where it would be decided. The Super D’s who endorsed Obama are being counted in his final total, BUT, they can change their mind up until the the day of the convention vote… and still can. Hillary has retained her delegates. So if the RNC were to pull out all the stops now, the Super D’s could overturn this “presumtive nomination” and she would be the party nominee. They don’t want that because they think we’re all going to vote for McCain. So, they are waiting. Why do you think groups like PUMA exist. We know Hillary could still be the nominee. It’s a long short, becaused none of us have millions to burn on ads like the 527′s will, but we keep on working.

The Clintons played softball, honey. You ain’t seen nothin’ yet!

  • I Will Remember in November

    Legislative accomplishments…Que crickets.

  • http://obamafact.blogspot.com/ Mel

actually it is 3 years, he was elected in 2004, but was not sworn in, you know swearing on that bible thing, like not telling lies in church thing in 2005, so it is not even 2.5 yrs yet Bambi has been a US Senator.

  • HARP

    From Hillbuzz

THIS is one of those moments that exemplifies WHY we support Hillary Clinton and would do absolutely anything for this woman.

Despite everything Tim Russert did to her this past year, despite the glee he took in attacking her and trying to humiliate her on national television, Hillary Clinton is now working to honor Tim Russert by renaming Route 20 in Buffalo, near the football stadium, in honor of Russert — because his home town and football were two of his great loves in life.

Clinton doesn’t have to do this, especially not now. But, here she is, yet again, going to work doing the right thing, because Russert was a fixture in his home town and this is a wonderful memorial to him, and we’re sure a great tribute for Russert’s family in this difficult time.

Hillary Clinton does things like this every day that no one ever hears about: there’s a reason we’ll stick with her no matter what, and this is part of that.

  • Democrat

Neither had delegates from FL and MI beforehand so there wasn’t any taking from one and giving to another.

  • http://obamafact.blogspot.com/ Mel

opps, not even 3.5 yrs, let’s not over estimate Bambis time, since his clock in politics is running out fast!

  • HARP

It is a nice thing for her to do and will help her in her re-election campaign for Senate. Western NY is not her strongest area in the state.

  • kanaughty

hello all. i have been thinking about this for a long time… but no(bama) still means no(bama). this could be a good enough argument in court case from the victim, and i am still feeling like a victim here of this bo onslaught of lies, corruption and more lies…

  • Shainzona

But, but, but…Obama began his Presidential campaign a month before he was elected to the Senate…therefore, it could be argued (YUP!) that he has NO SENATE experience as he has never fully committed to his current “job” before campaigning for a promotion to a position for which he is TOTALLY unqualified!

  • Democrat

Obama won the majority of pledged delegates under every FL/MI scenario and that’s what the supers cared about. They were never going to give the nomination to a candidate who didn’t win a majority of pledged delegates. The race was over after Wisconsin.

    (voice over)
    “For twenty years”

Just a guess as to one of many ads. And guess what? If I can find a way to donate to them I will.

Damn proud to cast my first ever vote for a republican in November

Well Obama is seeking to rename cell block R as the Rezko wing at Cook County Federal Jail, in recognizing the great accomplishments Anthony Rezko did for the city of Chicago and the State of Illinois, in finding work for dozens upon dozens of people.

  • kanaughty

she won’t have to be re-elected to the senate cause i still believe she is going to be the nominee by denver… it is bo that will need help on his re-election to the senate.

  • Judith

Hillary Clinton is a wonderful, dignified, woman. She is full of grace.

  • jc

You have made this stupid point before. Under what rule does Clinton get any delegates from from Michigan in an uncontested election? I guess you think this is insightful. What difference would it have made? Obama won the most delegates and had the support of the superdelegates, which would have been the case if FL and MI had held their normal elections. You are like a basketball fan who whines about a bad call when his team lost by twenty points.

  • Democrat

How do you see that unfolding?

  • Madam DeFarge

I’ve been wondering where these “Clinton tactics” Obamazoids harp on exist.
I saw Clinton supporters called names like f*kwad and a*swipe. But Clinton people didn’t engage in that stuff.
When I turned on TV, the Clintons were being pummeled 24/7.
Exactly where was all this “dirty” stuff happening?
In the delusional crevices of your own drug rotted brains?
Or is this just a talking point handed out to paid operatives to parrot over and over?
Whichever, you have no credibility anywhere, so you should report back to DailyKrud, they’re calling you.

  • kanaughty

anyhoo, about this video i always knew this guy was a slacker. i wonder how long he will actually want to be president before he starts running for king of the world and how much he will actually get done as the us president while he has already started running for that next higher up position of king of the world… newsflash, the boat will sink bo, it is inevitable, we have all seen the movie and know how it ends…

Where is Rev Wright. We have been setup by the Obama Camp. They told Wright to act like that at the press club. Obama saw the polls after PA and said I have to get rid of this guy but could not unless there was a new development. Nothing else would explain this guy not coming out to the press. His head is way to big to stay away for no reason. The same thing happen with Father Pleger ! He now needed to get rid of the church before the GE. Rev Wright staying out of the public is like telling Trump to shut up and sit in the corner (never happening unless something is in for him)

ClintonDems has news of a Media sponsors boycott to start on June 23. Think NQ is part of it – but they have great sponsor lists there – including Subway, which is a chain whose backers include Rezko/Arab $. Also true of Caribou Coffee. Definitely places not to support. Tell friends or family who go to either where that $ is going!

I checked out the horrifying KIDS FOR OBAMA and while at the fake messiah’s website also saw a strange piece soliciting supporters who are not American – saying something about how you don’t have to be American to vote for US Pres?? Very STRANGE STUFF. Now this:

Staff members for Obama are posting on the DNC website looking for translators for their “global campaign” – since when are United States elections GLOBAL?

Think about it. This does not bode well. They aren’t working up these ‘NON-VOTING blocs for no reason. Any with time, check it out and contact Lou Dobbs and Hannity at Fox.

  • Democrat

Nearly every Democrat thought it was irresponsible to cut off war funding when troops were there.

Congress can’t withdraw troops but a president can.

But the president has to think that’s a good idea. McCain doesn’t – he wants to continue the war. Obama and Clinton don’t.

C’mon you guys & gals! The honorable Barack Obama expanded the Union to accommodate seven (7) more states, making them 57 in total. He also bridged the Christian/Islamic (at least the Nation of Islam) divide by bringing its leaders together – in their condemnation of whoever stands in their way and their creed of hate. He also made it a hate crime to criticize a person of color – but only if you were white, Asian or Latino. And because he is a genuine leader who walks the talk, he made himself a willing guinea pig for the most innovative mortgage around – the Rezko-Auchi home loan – the one that you don’t need to pay at all! Pretty significant achievements, don’t you think?

The Clinton ‘machine’ nasty? You’ve OBVIOUSLY never heard of a couple of guys, one goes by the name of George W. Bush the other calls himself Richard Cheney. You might want to google them, you’re CLEARLY unaware of who you’re dealing with.

Here’s how the Republicans work…first they attack you on your ‘strong’ suit. For BO this would be his much vaunted ‘new politics’, you know ‘change’. This particular line of assault was on display last week with the firing of the ‘guy who didn’t work for him’ VP vetter and self-serving insider Jim Johnson. Why was he fired? Because the Reps were on the attack.

Next up making people who might support a candidate feel like they are a bunch of dumb rubes if they do. Exhibit A the above ad. What does it do? Well it uses BO’s one accomplishment, some of his useful idiot celebrity supporters (Cameron Diaz, anyone?) and his only other accomplishment (a post office) as the punchline of a joke. What’s the joke? “Are you dumb enough to support this lame candidate?” “Of course you’re not. YOU are a smart, skeptical tough-minded person, who would not fall for this load of bull.”

After Labor Day….the Patriot Games will begin. If you want to know how the game is played, ask Max Cleland….he’ll tell you about a level of NASTY your feeble little brain cannot even fathom. He knows, he was on the receiving end of it.

  • Freedom Fighter

Here are the rules. Page 21 number 5 would suggest that the rules committee can assign delegates based on what they think is fair if a state does not follow the rules including violating the timing of when they hold their primary. Now that I have cited the rule, I look forward to you admitting you were wrong and pledging your support for Obama.

Actually, go watch a video of what McCain said will ya? McCain said that American’s didn’t care about having a presence somewhere, they cared about casualties. And here is the relevant part, he said he wouldn’t mind the US having a presence in Iraq for 100 years as long as we weren’t having casualties. In fact, he cited our presence in both Germany and Japan as an illustration. When you LIE about what someone says or the intent of their message that makes you have zero credibility. Obama, the DNC and all of you bots have ZERO credibility.

  • Dawnelle

he was being too simple minded with his response (McKook) but MOST knew what he meant…. I don’t think it will work personally. Iraqis are NOT at ALL similar to Europeans or Koreans.

Obama has said he would leave decreased troops in Iraq. They would be targets, have no support, and their lives would be unnecessarily endangered. Obama doesn’t have the experience or judgment to be CIC.

  • HARP

His name was not on the fucking ballot and did not meet the 15 % threshold, so I suppose you think like the DNC that rewarding him for that is OK. While you are at it, explain why 3 other states where not penalized for moving up their primary dates according to DNC rules.

Rule 11.A. of the Delegate Selection Rules for the 2008 Democratic National Convention states the following:
    11. TIMING OF THE DELEGATE SELECTION PROCESS
    A. No meetings, caucuses, conventions or primaries which constitute the first determining stage in the presidential nomination process (the date of the primary in primary states, and the date of the first tier caucus in caucus states) may be held prior to the first Tuesday in February or after the second Tuesday in June in the calendar year of the national convention. Provided, however, that the Iowa precinct caucuses may be held no earlier than 22 days before the first Tuesday in February; that the Nevada first-tier caucuses may be held no earlier than 17 days before the first Tuesday in February; that the New Hampshire primary may be held no earlier than 14 days before the first Tuesday in February; and that the South Carolina primary may be held no earlier than 7 days before the first Tuesday in February. In no instance may a state which scheduled delegate selection procedures on or between the first Tuesday in February and the second Tuesday in June 1984 move out of compliance with the provisions of this rule.

We already know that Florida and Michigan violated Rule 11.A. by moving their primaries to a date before the first Tuesday in February. There is no argument there, but what about Iowa, New Hampshire, and yes, South Carolina too.

Rule 11.A specifically set the date for the primaries & caucuses for those three states as “no earlier than 22 days before the first Tuesday in February” (Iowa), “no earlier than 14 days before the first Tuesday in February” (New Hampshire), and “no earlier than 7 days before the first Tuesday in February” (South Carolina).
Iowa held their caucuses on January 3rd. That’s more than 22 days before the first Tuesday in February. New Hampshire held their primary on January 8th. That’s more than 17 days before the first Tuesday in February. And South Carolina held their primary on January 26th. That’s more than 7 days before the first Tuesday in February.

Under Rule 11.A., five states were in violation of the Democratic National Committee’s Delegate Selection Rules, and as such, all five states should have been punished under Rule 20.C.1.a.

Violation of timing: In the event the Delegate Selection Plan of a state party provides or permits a meeting, caucus, convention or primary which constitutes the first determining stage in the presidential nominating process to be held prior to or after the dates for the state as provided in Rule 11 of these rules, or in the event a state holds such a meeting, caucus, convention or primary prior to or after such dates, the number of pledged delegates elected in each category allocated to the state pursuant to the Call for the National Convention shall be reduced by fifty (50%) percent, and the number of alternates shall also be reduced by fifty (50%) percent. In addition, none of the members of the Democratic National Committee and no other unpledged delegate allocated pursuant to Rule 8.A. from that state shall be permitted to vote as members of the state’s delegation. In determining the actual number of delegates or alternates by which the state’s delegation is to be reduced, any fraction below .5 shall be rounded down to the nearest whole number, and any fraction of .5 or greater shall be rounded up to the next nearest whole number.

Yes, you read that right; under Rule 20.C.1.a., Florida, Iowa, Michigan, New Hampshire, and South Carolina would have all lost their super delegates and had their pledged delegates reduced by half since they all violated Rule 11.A.

However, Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina weren’t punished fairly. In fact, they weren’t punished at all.
And what about Florida & Michigan?
Well, we all know what happened to them.

Instead of strictly adhering to Rule 20.C.1.a. and reducing their pledged delegates by 50%, the DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee decided to take it a step further. The DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee exercised the authority granted to them by Rules 20.C.5. and 20.C.6. which allowed them to “impose sanctions the Committee deems appropriate.” And what were those sanctions the Committee deemed appropriate? Stripping two of the largest states in the union of all their votes at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

Ladies & Gentlemen, this is what happens when the rules aren’t applied equally and fairly. And as I said before, this mess is a result of the DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee not applying the rules equally and fairly.
So, the next time someone starts talking about the rules, might I suggest two courses of action:

1.) Read the damn rules first!
    -and-
2.) Let them know that the rules were bent to allow for Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina to keep their preferred first-in-the-nation status.

  • Hope Floats

Actually, committee hearings would end the war, because the more European NATO allies we have in Afghanistan who are fighting with us, the less burdened our troops are and the sooner we could declare victory and end the war.

Afghanistan said today threatened to send forces into Pakistan, because they are sick of the deaths at checkpoints and insurgents hiding within their borders. The situation is definitely chaotic. If Obama had any understanding of this, he would not have made his imprudent remarks weeks before Bhutto’s assassination.

You are changing your argument. You said there was no rule allowing for them to allocate delegates. Now, you are saying they are not applying them fairly. Clinton had no problem with how the DNC was applying the rules until it worked against her. I give you credit for at least reading the rules, but the way I figure it you still owe Obama your vote.

  • Hope Floats

Because he’s inexperienced and incompetent. His foreign policy is shockingly uninformed.

Bush ran on a humble foreign policy, but the US president doesn’t know what they’re doing, we end up at war. The road to hell is paved with good intentions… a lot of Americans question what Obama’s intentions even are.

A few more tham one actually. What has McWar accomplished?

The Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act
Introduced by Sen. John McCain in May 2005, and cosponsored by Sen. Edward Kennedy. Barack Obama added three amendments to this bill.

While the bill was never voted on in the Senate, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Acts of 2006 and 2007, respectively, drew heavily upon the wording of this bill.

    The Lugar-Obama Cooperative Threat Reduction.
Introduced by Sen. Barack Obama, Sen. Dick Lugar and Sen. Tom Coburn.

First introduced in November 2005 and enacted in 2007, this bill expanded upon the successful Nunn-Lugar threat reduction, which helped secure weapons of mass destruction and related infrastructure in former Soviet Union states.

Lugar-Obama expanded this nonproliferation program to conventional weapons — including shoulder-fired rockets and land mines. When the bill received $48 million in funding, Obama said, “This funding will further strengthen our ability to detect and intercept illegal shipments of weapons and materials of mass destruction, enhancing efforts to prevent nuclear terrorism.”

Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006
This act of Congress, introduced by Senators Obama and Coburn, required the full disclosure of all entities or organizations receiving federal funds in FY2007.

Despite a “secret hold” on this bill by Senators Ted Stevens and Robert Byrd, the act passed into law and was signed by President Bush. The act had 43 cosponsors, including John McCain.

The act created this Web site, which provides citizens with valuable information about government-funded programs.

Democratic Republic of the Congo Relief, Security, and Democracy Promotion Act

This law helped specify US policy toward the Congo, and states that the US should work with other donor nations to increase international contributions to the African nation.

The bill marked the first federal legislation to be enacted with Obama as its primary sponsor. Following this legislation’s passage, Obama toured Africa, traveling to South Africa, Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Chad. He spoke forcefully against ethnic rivalries and political corruption in Kenya.

Honest Leadership and Open Government Act
In the first month of the 110th Congress, Obama worked with Sen. Russ Feingold to pass this law, which amends and strengthens the Lobbying Disclosure Act of 1995.

Specificially, the changes made by Obama and Feingold requires public disclosure of lobbying activity and funding, places more restrictions on gifts for members of Congress and their staff, and provides for mandatory disclosure of earmarks in expenditure bills.

The House passed the bill, 411-8, on July 31. The Senate approved it, 83-14, on Aug. 2. At the time, Obama called it “the most sweeping ethics reform since Watergate.”

Deceptive Practices and Voter Intimidation Prevention Act

Following the Republican-sponsored voter intimidation tactics seen in mostly black counties in Maryland during the 2006 midterm elections, Obama worked with Sen. Chuck Schumer to introduce this bill.

The bill has been referred to the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary. Obama said of the bill, “This legislation would ensure that for the first time, these incidents are fully investigated and that those found guilty are punished.”

The Obama-McCain Climate Change Reduction Bill

The Obama-McCain bill, which is co-sponsored by Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., would cut emissions by two-thirds by 2050.

Iraq War De-Escalation Act of 2007

Introduced by Obama, this binding act would stop the planned troop increase of 21,500 in Iraq, and would also begin a phased redeployment of troops from Iraq with the goal of removing all combat forces by March 31, 2008.

Explaining the bill, Obama said it reflects his view that the problems in Iraq do not have a military solution. “Our troops have performed brilliantly in Iraq, but no amount of American soldiers can solve the political differences at the heart of somebody else’s civil war,” Obama said.

Amendments to the 2008 Defense Authorization Bill

Obama worked with Sen. Kit Bond to limit, through this bill, the Pentagon’s use of personality disorder discharges in the FY 2008 Defense Authorization bill.

This provision would add additional safeguards to discharge procedures and require a thorough review by the Government Accountability Office. This followed news reports that the Pentagon inappropriately used these procedures to discharge service members with service-connected psychological injuries.

“With thousands of American service members suffering day in and day out from the less visible wounds of war, reports that the Pentagon has improperly diagnosed and discharged service members with personality disorders are deeply disturbing,” said Senator Obama. “This provision will add additional safeguards to the Department of Defense’s use of this discharge and mandate a comprehensive review of these policies.”

The Comprehensive Nuclear Threat Reduction provision

Working with Sen. Hagel and Rep. Adam Schiff, Obama authored this provision, which would require the president to develop a comprehensive plan for ensuring that all nuclear weapons and weapons-usable material at vulnerable sites around the world are secure by 2012 from the threats that terrorists have shown they can pose.

A provision from the Obama-Hagel bill was passed by Congress in December 2007 as an amendment to the State-Foreign Operations appropriations bill.

“It is imperative that we build and sustain a truly global effort under an aggressive timeline to secure, consolidate, and reduce stockpiles of nuclear weapons and weapons-usable material to keep them out of the wrong hands. The comprehensive nuclear threat reduction plan required by this provision is an important step in that effort,” Obama said of the provision.
