Obama’s Summer of Wee Wee

The author of this WSJ article, Foud Ajami has a more elegant title: Obama’s Summer of Discontent which I recommend for a full read but I will use a couple of thoughts and ideas from the article for my own contemplation.
we-the-people

American democracy has never been democracy by plebiscite, a process by which a leader is anointed, then the populace steps out of the way, and the anointed one puts his political program in place. In the American tradition, the “mandate of heaven” is gained and lost every day and people talk back to their leaders. They are not held in thrall by them. The leaders are not infallible or a breed apart. That way is the Third World way, the way it plays out in Arab and Latin American politics.

Those protesters in those town-hall meetings have served notice that Mr. Obama’s charismatic moment has passed. Once again, the belief in that American exception that set this nation apart from other lands is re-emerging. Health care is the tip of the iceberg. Beneath it is an unease with the way the verdict of the 2008 election was read by those who prevailed. It shall be seen whether the man swept into office in the moment of national panic will adjust to the nation’s recovery of its self-confidence.

Picture above (Source: Library of Congress via this page) shows the first page of the US Constitution, which I add to this post to drive home the point that people and not the politicians have the final say — a point seemingly lost on Obama. Remember how he and his cronies react to the town hall protests, remember how he repeats that he is the president, that he won the election, that he wants the opposition to shut up and get out of the way.

I came to this country in the late 1980s. My introduction to American politics was the tail-end of Reagan era and I never understood the fascination people had for him. But when people threw out the lack-luster Bush, the elder for his “Read my lips” folly, I was really impressed. Then came Clinton and I was truly mesmerized by his intellect and his wife, the first brainy first lady with a career who didn’t care to be sidelined even as the Republicans muzzled her in all ways possible. His economic policies were good enough to result in a surplus and the Internet revolution. The Internet is perhaps the truly most glorious gift that the Americans have given to the rest of the world. This was the euphoria that carried me into becoming a citizen in spite of the 2000 election debacle that gave us Bush, the son. With my guarded optimism in the informed American electorate I waited for a strong opposition but that never came. I think that was mostly because of 9/11 which shocked and paralyzed the country for much of Bush years. He took advantage of it to go into Iraq and we are suffering the aftermath of it still. Obama is part of that Bush era aftermath and as Mr. Ajami rightly notes, he rode in on a “moment of national panic”, enthralling the gullible people with his magic ‘hope and change’ mantra.

Mr. Ajami is right — most third world politics is full of such shock and awe between politicians seen as infallible or a breed apart. People want to believe that their suffering which is generally monumental will somehow be alleviated with a divine intervention or a politician who talks the good talk. It however, took me by surprise that the majority of Americans fell for similar gobbledygook (remember the messiah rhetoric) about Obama last year. On NQ we have kept track of everything that happened during the Democratic primary in 2008. We saw many signs of third world politics — the bullying and intimidation of voters and caucus fraud (I still can’t believe Chicago Cook county numbers for Obama), the May 31st DNC fiasco, the thuggery and the race-baiting, the pay to play with the delegates, the chicanery of Edwards’ candidacy (now we know more than before with 20/20 hindsight), the media malfunction that continues to this day, and anything else you want to add to that list. All of this gets euphemistically reduced to this faux-reality bite: Obama ran a better campaign.

In third world politics, when the realization that the elected officials are nothing but corrupt politicians occurs, people are generally powerless to do anything. Will it work out differently for the Americans?

Some of third world politics even when they are democracies, is based on parliamentary system of government. People have the right to vote for a party representative but the leaders are picked by the majority party elites. A lot of cronyism and corruption feeds into that second phase of installing the government. That culture crept into American polity last year with the failure of the Democratic primary. Obama was the anointed one by the party. The people were duped to go along with it through the media megaphone and other political skulduggery. However, what is truly different about the American system is that the people still have the power to kick their political leaders including the president out of office if they don’t deliver. As Mr. Ajami notes, “the “mandate of heaven” is gained and lost every day and people talk back to their leaders.” Are the recent town hall protests a sign of that American tradition? Have they seen the light that Obama is just another Chicago politician fending for himself and his cronies? Will they kick him out of office if he fails to deliver?

The American system of government is truly exceptional with every citizen having the right to choose his/her president, that is if it is allowed to work as it is intended. With a bad choice, a presidential term of four years is long enough to cause damage inadvertently or deliberately but not long enough for the American people to realize and demand course correction. We will have to wait for 2012 to see if they gain their self-confidence back and exercise their control judiciously. “We the People..” is a beautiful and empowering phrase but with great power comes great responsibility. I hope the next time around, the people stay away from mind altering ad campaigns like the one Axelrod or Rove pulled off in the last three elections. Trust me, you need a better than “I can have a beer with that guy” or “hope and change” kind of guy for your president.

A side anecdote: As a new bride, some twenty years ago, I impressed my new MIL (rolling my eyes) when I successfully argued with her old (read wise) and distinguished university professor friend, about why it was easier for India to have produced a female head of state, Indira Gandhi as its prime minister. The professor’s contention dripping with self-satisfaction at that time was that America with all its sophistication had failed to produce a female leader. I, having been in America for only one or two years, had argued that with a parliamentary system of government like India has, it was easier to convince a few party bigwigs to nominate a woman for the highest political office. In contrast, I argued that the American system of government was more retail politics and that it was harder for the female candidate to change the mindset of millions of individuals without a major shift in culture. The irony however, is that twenty odd years later, we had such a female candidate last election in Hillary Clinton that the people approved but the party establishment and the political class opted to usurp a parliamentary type coup during the Democratic primary to steal the nomination from her.

Get a new line – this is getting really old. would you like to have Bush and his ilk back in power? i forgot, its all howard dean and donna brazille’s fault – they rigged the dnc. will your conspiracies never end?? why is it that you Obama haters are the only ones who keep promoting all this garbage? you really do believe the MSM, don’t you? even obama fans don’t go along with what the media tells us about him, okay? get it through your head – he has disappointed some, and they’re talking about it, with the hope that things change because of it. nothing to do with Hillary or the election – and maybe, just maybe, Hillary was not the popular choice. will you ever accept that?

  • http://noquarterusa No-nonsense-Nancy

PM317, you are so right on about our politics. I have been very distressed about the past election and the way Obama has been taking our country since he has been in office. But I believe strongly in WE THE PEOPLE and I feel that we will prevail in stopping this train wreck from happening. For the sake of my dear, sweet grandchildren I certainly pray for that.

  • trixta

Excellent article, PM! 2012 should prove to be very interesting!

  • glennmcgahee

All of this is very good – the people coming out. But we too easily forget the shenanigans with our voting system. Yes, we’re working on it, but alot has been forgotten since 2004 when the numbers just didn’t add up. Since then, instead of a voting correction, we have seen voting machines become the norm, no investigation conducted by the gov’t and forgotten by the masses. Voting is our only weapon.

  • Diana L. C.

    pm317,

Thank you for your interesting and intelligent insights. This is a very good post. I’m going to come back and re-read it tomorrow morning so that I can better remember some of your points. My mind is a little tired from a long day’s work.

We must stop this ability of smooth talkers to by themselves the Presidency! Campaign finance reform of the real deal. Each candidate, including independents is aloted a certain amount of funding. That’s it, all she wrote. They will need to win people over with their ideas and character and proven record, not some ad circus and media control. Our Founding fathers are rolling over in their graves right now, dumbfounded that we are not storming the White House. Take it back, people. Take it back! We can do it! I will die before I give up my freedoms by just sitting and watching them taken. No more. No more. No more. If there is anything positive about Obama, it is that he has gotten all kinds of people to start paying attention to what the Government is doing. That is a bad thing for a shady politician. They prefer not to be watched. Most in this country are watching the front door stuff, but we need to start watching what’s coming through the back door, too. For that matter, let’s watch them from every side!

  • MOLLY MOBSTER

The fact that Obama has the ACORN thugs out there messing with the Census, and including illegal aliens in the count, is so frigging UnConstitutional I could scream. We already lived through the Caucus and Voter Fraud in 2008. Now what? We will never have a fair and democratic election again in this country?

  • HARP

Buried on page 65 of the 1,017 pages of HR 3200, the House’s health care reform bill, and in a Senate bill as well, stands a $10 billion entitlement to keep pensions for unions like United Auto Workers as shiny and gold-plated as the day Detroit executives signed off on them. Steelworkers, municipal employees, teachers and other union retirees will benefit from what the bills call “Reinsurance Programs for Retirees.” The $10 billion cash infusion is intended to refinance Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Associations (VEBA) insurance to continue coverage for unions’ early retirees in restructurings. It’s nothing but another bailout for union-bankrupted industries that can’t sustain their contracts.

The difference between this year and last is that Americans are being mobilized into action and have the tools to do it.
The Obama administration has lost it’s moorings. Obama is now at war with the American people and when you are at war with your own people you don’t stay in power long.

Three months before he obtained the D nomination, BO took out an ad on the internet called “Fight the Smears” – he spelled out quite plainly, this ad was “Paid for by Barack Obama” – proclaiming for everyone to see, he was only a “native citizen.”

Hey Seattle, here we still have eyes for Alaska. Have to sell out of Florida first, but it is doable at a price. It will be worth it to live somewhere that freedom is still appreciated. I am even planning on going back into practice after a ten year diversion. Partly because I want to… and partly because we have lost half our net worth due to the various crises that enabled our new boy king. Still looking forward for the light at the end of the tunnel. I think more now than ever that things happen because they need to happen and there is a greater design. These times truly do suck, but they do so for a reason. ;)

Shocking isn’t it how Democrats have turned against the people. It is something I will never forget. As I watch these arrogant piles of excrement strut around I truly believe that that Americans are so sick of this mob they will toss them out in 2010. Now they want to relabel the Healthcare Bill after Teddy and they believe along with phoney polls and 150 Million in advertising they can get their punitive bill passed.

Ironic isn’t it that Teddy Kennedy used the Insurance we provided him to stay alive as long as possible. Not so for the rest of us if this boondoggle passes. Like Cash for Clunkers this will be Gold for Geezers and like the Car Dealers the Doctors and Hospitals won’t be paid either.

Another revealing article in the WSJ this morning (link below) — with facts about how “Obama’s Health Rationer-in-Chief” is trying to change the entire philosophy behind medical care: from the Hippocratic Oath that compels docs to care for individuals to a “greater social good” plan that determines who will get medical care and when/when not. Especially outrageous (if you don’t believe Obama is God, I mean) is Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel’s “Reaper Curve.” So now we have a bunch of unaccountable “czars” trying to socially engineer everything in this country from the sale of cars to life and death. I’m choking on my coffee (and help is not on the way, as I do not fall on a very auspicious place on the Reaper Curve…)

Well the ad campaigns have already started.

Inevitable: NEA Pushes Artists to Begin Making Obama Propaganda

I was invited by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to take part in a conference call that invited a group of rising artist and art community luminaries “to help lay a new foundation for growth, focusing on core areas of the recovery agenda – health care, energy and environment, safety and security, education, community renewal.”

Backed by the full weight of President Barack Obama’s call to service and the institutional weight of the NEA, the conference call was billed as an opportunity for those in the art community to inspire service in four key categories, and at the top of the list were “health care” and “energy and environment.” The service was to be attached to the President’s United We Serve campaign, a nationwide federal initiative to make service a way of life for all Americans.

It is amazing that Obama is uttering the exact same phrases George W. Bush uttered. Two peas in a pod, to be trite.

That said, I got e-mail from Tony Perkins asking me to attend a Town Hall Meeting. The angry protests are, to some extent, organized by Neoconservative groups such as Perkins’.

I think this bill is wrong-headed, but I am sorry to see how many Americans still think business profits should be protected at all costs, but people should fend for themselves. If you reject the idea of nationalized healthcare, you support the evil for-profit system the corporations in this country developed during the Industrial Revolution.

First World democracies take care of their people. That’s the whole point of instituting government. Third World tyrannies throw The People to the wolves and milk everything in society for profit.

You say Dean and Brazille ‘rigged’ the DNC with sarcasm. It is a fact that delegates went into the meeting (which was supposed to be a
sunshine’ meeting, out in the open, but was in stead held behind closed doors, in violation of their own rules), leaning toward Hillary. The coercion which was used on them is well known….except to those like you who cherrypick your facts and hurl ignorant accusations around willynilly. Are you so desperate to try to save this failing President that you still drink the kool-aid? How sad for you. The bulk of the American voting public have finally started opening their eyes to what we who opposed Obama knew from the beginning…that he was ill-equipped, un-accomplished and too morally bankrupt to be entitled to the position.
Chicago style bullying is also being exposed to the sunlight and the American people don’t like it. Rahm Emmanuel, Axelrod and their ilk will be the first to be thrown under the bus by Obama when he sees them as a liability…(they certainly are a liability to American democracy).
Gibbs is an excellent front man for what the Obama admin. really is…rude, arrogant, belittling and untruthful.
What a great crew you support! Me? I’ll take a little honesty, integrity, experience and love of America, none of which Obama displays.

What is sad for me as a fairly new citizen is to see that a sophisticated instrument such as the constitution is wasted on people like ‘janice’. They should go live in some third world country. Their ignorance and blind devotion are well suited for following “leaders” who promise them much and deliver little. They do not know how to handle the power (and the responsibility that goes with it) they are endowed by the constitution.

  • elizabethrc

One can only hope that in 2010 the ACORN intimidation of the last election will be met by overwhelming voter resistance at the polls this time around. We let them get away with it. We are a nation which has never backed away from a fight and if it’s a fight ACORN wants, then it’s a fight they’ll get.
A few black panther types standing around with their billy clubs at the polling places won’t stand a chance this time when people stand up to them. They’ll tuck their little tails between their skinny little legs and run for the hills.
Stand up against tyranny, people. It’s the only way (since we have a Congress which cares so little for the Constitutions and the people) to protect our rights.

Perhaps the lifetime perks of being a fed employee should be reconsidered. Maybe one reason the postal dept is in such deep financial trouble is that the employees get to retire too early and take too great a pension for the rest of their lives. Add to that that the executives get paid far too much.
Why should union workers not only earn an obscene hourly wage but have every member of their family covered for life with health insurance?
In our town, the police and fire personnel retire early with overly generous packages. School administrators have their own cars (why should the taxpayer bear the burden of that???) and local citizens are just now beginning to question the costs to us. Let’s hope it spreads across the country.

Let’s see, BO was given by the DNC all of Edwards’ delegates plus 4 of HRC’s in the MI primary; Florida delegates were halved; caucus states had bussed-in BO-out-of-state “voters”; the Roll Call vote in Denver was gifted to BO even though he and HRC were about even in delegates and even though she had the popular vote….
Yeah, by all accounts the nomination was stolen from HRC.

You make a very wise point by differentiating our system of democractic government from any other.

Most democracies the people vote for representatives in Parliament and the party that as a majority – or gains a majority through a coalition of parties – gets to select the country leader. This is the one country that we do it directly regardless of who is the majority party.

I believe it is the foresight of the founding fathers in constructing this government to insure it is of and by “the people” that Obama and his radical thugs will not succeed in their attempt to do what has been done in some other parliamentary based democracies where a party and its leader comes to power and systematically consolidates power away from the masses. Since Pelosi feels it is necessary to equate the healthcare protestors to nazis, it is worth remembering that the National Socialist Workers Party came to power through government elections and then, once in power, took control of the military, police and key industries.

That will not happen in this country.

I think this is one your best essays, pm, and I appreciate the WSJ link to Ajami’s article. Your lead in from his article:

“In the American tradition, the “mandate of heaven” is gained and lost every day and people talk back to their leaders.”

This is so important for us to remember and cherish. It’s encouraging to see this tradition played out in townhalls all over the country and it makes Pelosi’s comments about dissent [unAmerican] all the more infuriating.

I also appreciated your personal insights, the comparisons between world democracies–our system as opposed to parliamentary systems. What we have in the States is quite different, exceptional on its face. It’s not perfect but certainly worth protecting.

    Thanks for the piece!

PS: I think increased troll activity indicates the “trouble in paradise” atmosphere in Obamaland. People are waking up.

Why is Hugo Chávez Involved With U.S. Voting Machines?

The greater threat to our nation’s security comes not from Dubai and its pro-Western government, but from Venezuela, where software engineers with links to the leftist, anti-American regime of Hugo Chávez are programming electronic voting machines that will soon power U.S. elections.

Congress spent two weeks overreacting to news that Dubai Ports World would operate several American ports, including Miami’s, but a better target for their hysteria would be the acquisition by Smartmatic International of California-based Sequoia Voting Systems, whose machines serve millions of U.S. voters. That Smartmatic — which has been accused by Venezuela’s opposition of helping Chávez rig elections in his favor — now controls a major U.S. e-voting firm should give pause to anybody who thinks that replacing our antiquated butterfly ballots and hanging chads will restore Americans’ faith in our electoral process.

This was from 2006 but I doubt if it has gotten better. Maybe worse, chummy one would say?

Maybe Obama will really become the unifier, though I don’t think that was ever his intention.

    Misplaced comment moved up thread.

Thanks Peggy Sue, for your kind appreciation.

  • pm317

OOps, Sorry Peggy, this was a reply to tzada. I will move it up.

  • tzada

Did you read that or is it written up in a way that can be sent to some of the news like Washington Post, Drudge Report, Fox and breitbart tv.

Also if you would go to some of the other conservative blogs and post this. NQ has a list and there are others out there.

Minority rights need protection everywhere. But somehow these days nobody questions atrocities on minorities in Muslim countries. We all have to be very PC about their rights in our own countries (think UK). Note however in Kashmir, it was a mixed population of Hindus and Muslims living happily when the partition happened but the Hindu pundit community has been eliminated almost completely from that region by insurgents and cross border terrorism that it is now a Muslim majority state.

    {Thanks for the article. I don’t really want this thread to degenerate into a Kashmir story, though.}

    From Peggy Sue:

I also appreciated your personal insights, the comparisons between world democracies–our system as opposed to parliamentary systems. What we have in the States is quite different, exceptional on its face. It’s not perfect but certainly worth protecting.

I want to add a detail here about a parliamentary democracy that actually kicked the misbehaving government successfully. In the 1970s, Indian PM Indira Gandhi became power crazy when a court challenged her election win and introduced the “Emergency Rule” and with her second son in tow, a lot of bad things happened. People’s unrest forced her to call for an election soon after that, and the enraged people gave her the boot and she(her Congress party) lost in phenomenal numbers. I get asked about Indian democracy a lot and I cite this incident often to show its hard core democratic traditions, not perfect but for a country with its diversity in religion, language, caste, class and so much, that it is held together the way it is, is totally remarkable.

pm did you know that ACORN was getting involved in India? Do not have my notes, but I did get an email from a rabid Obama supporter during the promaries. He was getting ready to head for India.

Just a note: People when you forward someone elses emails to another, remove all the address that are attached to it. Someone did not take mine off which is how that offensive person got my email address. It probably now resides with all the other fishies in that Great Sharks innards.

These Democrats either never read or never understood the Declaration of Independence and therefore whose country this is.

Their response to their own constituents will trigger their demise in the very next election which will be a dramatic sea change in power.

pm317– I always appreciate your thoughtful posts, and this one is especially important because you can speak informedly about the contrasts between our government and others. So many people have little knowledge or appreciation for the gift they have of being a US citizen. They don’t stop to think how it could be taken away from them. I wish there were more people like yourself, beating the drum to remind us all of what is at stake if we don’t speak up for our rights. Thank you!

The election was corrupted by the DNC. That’s not a conspiracy theory. As unbelievable as it is, that’s what happened. I think that one day the truth will come out, but not for years, maybe decades.

As a life-long liberal Democrat, I take no pleasure in saying this. In fact, the events of 2008 were the most shocking and depressing political events I’ve ever experienced–eclipsing even the travesty of the 2008 presidential travesty. As bad as it was to have Republicans steal an election, it was worse to have Democrats rig and steal a primary.

  • pm317

ACORN type thuggery in politics is not unusual in India. But things are changing now for the better. A majority young population wants economic growth not some political skulduggery. Politicians will be pleasantly surprised if they overplay their hand at corruption.

Thank you for your comments. Isn’t it significant that we (as new citizens, and I will venture that Mr. Ajami may be one too) see so much to appreciate here and the youth that predominantly voted for Obama (and participated in caucus thuggery and fraud) don’t even know what they are screwing around with. They need a cold hard civic lesson in American democracy.

  • pm317

I am willing to bet my last dollar she will be gone next election. :) Instead of saying I am here to do right by you, she says fire me if you don’t like me. Good PR (NOT).

This is the truth that they refuse to see.

lol @ Obama outspending Hillary, the media was in his pocket and she STILL got more votes than him.

  • Thinker

    wow pm317!!!

Great post!! You really do have a way with words.

“We saw many signs of third world politics — the bullying and intimidation of voters and caucus fraud (I still can’t believe Chicago Cook county numbers for Obama), the May 31st DNC fiasco, the thuggery and the race-baiting, the pay to play with the delegates, the chicanery of Edwards’ candidacy (now we know more than before with 20/20 hindsight), the media malfunction that continues to this day, and anything else you want to add to that list. All of this gets euphemistically reduced to this faux-reality bite: Obama ran a better campaign.”

I will never forget what went down during the primaries. It was beyond shocking. I couldn’t believe that this was America.

I left the Democratic party back in June and will never join again.

Obama had the nomination handed to him, via third world election fraud, he didn’t earn it and they tell lies about him “running a better campaign” to cover up the truth.

More & more people are starting to see the con that we saw when he first came onto the scene.
…didn’t think it would happen this fast, but that’s fine by me.

“Obama is part of that Bush era aftermath”

Yes. Obama is part of the 9/11 aftershock.

If you hit someone in the head with a bat, first they stagger one way, then they stagger in another direction. It takes some time to the head to clear. 9/11 was that blow to the head of America, and as of last November, we’re still suffering dizzy spells.

You can bet your poodle and all the gold in your babushkas that the DNR was RIGGED by the OBAMA CAMPAIGN THUGGERY!

\Read on this issue a bit more. Hillary received more of the POPULAR VOTE than Obama. Do the math. She was not allowed to fight on. She was in fact Winning, and they robbed her of the votes to push her out of the ring. Kennedy was allowed in his weak as water campaign against CArter. But the BOYS allowed him to do this back in 79 didn’t they? Read a bit history. Your messiah Obamarama was and is a BRAND and that’[s all he is.\\

Dr. Lynette Long has done studies galore on the subject. There is a video of how the Obama thugsters used people transported to Iowa and the caucuses from Chicago. They pushed and shoved and treated Hillary supporter s like dirt, sweetie pie!

In Agusut 2008, Hillary spent not a single dime on Advertising. McCain had spent a few millions and Obama spent 5 times as much as McCain!
It’s a fact. Guess what, ObamaTroll?

Hillary did better in the polls as against McCain (6 points) than Obama vs McCain! She would have won the Election, were it not for the Chicago thusg, Axelrod and Rahmbo the Ballerina!

Rahm must have known about the paternity problem and that’s why Edwards gave Ozero his support at a crucial time when Hillary needed delegates!

    Linda

Not a single “Democrat”, including Obambi of course, ever uttered a word in protest over the sexist treatment of HIllary and Palin during the Summer of ’08….Dean said something but it was after the fact.

Yet Hillary respected Palin all the way and wished her luck while Sarah paid Hillary tribute for her l8 million cracks on the glass ceiling…goes to show you…..

P.S. I added my name (I am not a Republican) to a list condemning Letterman’s disgusting comments of misogyny but never will i forget the vilest, most disustingly inhumane and sexist to the hilt comments on Obama’s bloggers….incredible!

May the Wee Wee One get the hell out of the White House soon….

  • Thinker

Yeah, it makes you wonder!!! It probably was blackmail.

At the time, I remember thinking how odd it was.

For example, Edwards directly challenged Obama on one of his numerous present votes when there was a vote to limit credit card interest rates to 33% or so. Obama said he voted present because he said that the limit was too high and Edwards pounced on him and said, (and it’s not an exact quote, but this is what he said): “So you would rather have no limit, by not voting, versus having some sort of help for people.”

I’ll never forget that moment during the debates.

Next thing I knew, Edwards was supporting Obama.

  • CalifGirlInMaine

Nancy, I agree with you. The Americans are a unique people (I’d rather say peculiar, but I don’t think it will be read how I mean it). I believe this country was settled in large by renegades and misfits — people who didn’t fit into the society they lived in, or who simply rebelled against it. They came here for the freedom to worship as they pleased, or to live as they pleased, or whatever other reason. They stubbornly clung to that freedom and passed on the desire to the generations that followed. The immigrants who came later were also looking for freedom, or for better lives, or whatever else, and many of them were “infected” (for lack of a better word) with that same love of freedom.

In more recent years we’ve become complacent, and allowed the government to cut into some of our freedoms. Now we’re waking up and realizing what has happened, and that love of freedom, the independence and stubbornness that make Americans unique, are roiling up inside of us and bubbling out. Thus, the tea parties and the town halls. More and more people are joining in, and as the numbers grow, it will be harder to shut us all down.

Not to say it couldn’t happen. But we must stand strong and speak out, and pray and pray. I think we can still turn the tide, but we cannot wait to do it.

At least, this is what I think, and hope to be true.
